Hello,
I've tried to follow some of these instructions to update from an old stock setup. I followed NUT's dual bootloader and appeared to have some success. I was able to get in to TWRP then it changed by itself to Philz Touch my wifi tablet wouldn't accept the wifi rom, saying that it was castor not castor_windy.
I uploaded the castor rom and now nothing works. Black screen on boot.
I can get fastboot, but can't get any new recoveries to load.
Much appreciation for any help you can provide.

If you can manage to get to fastboot I recommend flashing a stock firmware with flashtool to unbrick. That's how I did it each time I killed it off.

Bought a stock HTC one M8 second hand the other day..
Still locked and doesn't appear to be tampered with at all. Worked fine for a couple of days but then got a notification saying I needed to restart the phone to install "lock screen updates". Pressed restart, now I'm stuck in a boot loop :/
I've looked up what to do and it appears that I need to flash the stock rom, I've unlocked the phone and am attempting to flash TWRP, it installs fine but when I boot into recovery it starts loading TWRP, with eh HTC logo with writing over it, it then returns to the boot loop, not getting into TWRP :/
Not sure why this is, please help!

My unlocked, S-OFF M8 did the same thing. I had to back down to TWRP 2.8.1.0 before I could boot into recovery. Tried them all starting with the newest but couldn't get them to flash correctly.
*** Found out I had to update my firmware prior to installing the newer version of TWRP.
You might need to revert back to older versions of TWRP to accomplish your goal.

Thanks I'll have a go now and let you know how it goes.
Just tried all the available versions of TWRP, they all went into a boot loop :/
Is it worth turning S off?
The only guide i've found for s-off says you need to do a WIPE with TWRP and then flash an "insertCoin ROM', would this be possible using fastboot?
Thankyou in advance

Sunshine (http://theroot.ninja/) is the best available S-OFF option available. But, you have to be running and have a 'near stock ROM' for it to work. I'm going to have to wait and let someone with a lot more experience than I have help you out. Good luck.

Hey can anyone help me on how to root acer liquid zest (t06) 3g version? I don't seem to find any guides on how to root this phone.
If anyone can help me thanks in advance
Edit:
(Must be flashed with unlocked bootloader.)
To those asking on how I rooted my phone here:
Get this recovery and flash it:Flash this via fastboot/ADB
Mod edit: Link removed as recovery was causing issues with users' devices.
If flashing it doesn't work try booting it instead:
https://aubykhan.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/-tip-boot-into-twrp-or-cwm-recovery-without-flashing/
After Flashing the recovery download supersu and flash it:
https://download.chainfire.eu/969/Su...0630161323.zip
Done you rooted your phone
For anyone asking for a custom rom here:
http://www.droidpeepz.xyz/2016/08/cm-rom-601-cyanogenmod-13-unofficial.html
I know this isn't for acer liquid zest but it worked for me without porting it
try changing themes and settings if the rom is lagging or stuttering
For the stock rom I still need to upload it

I have the same problem as you do and have installed twrp several times but it's not helping i still get stuck into the bootloop that shows twrp trying to do some things but can't do it. So do anybody know where you can find the stock recovery for this device?
do you have a different link for the CyanogenMod? i can't download it in Mega Server, it says "Limit Exceeded".
Hey guys, bought this phone a month back and tried the recovery in the op and the display was off. As well as a couple of the partitions. Just booting the recovery once messed up my touchscreen somehow and I was unable to repair my phone. So I got another one and I went ahead and unpacked the recovery and repacked it with my recovery kernel as well as removed unnecessary partitions from the list of used partitions in the recovery. If anyone has a new liquid zest with Android 6.0, use this recovery:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz4bOoJ_E5XzaktJVTcwNFNGazQ/view?usp=drivesdk
Also, I found the stock firmware if anyone needs it, just shout me a message and I'll upload it for you.

Yes and furthermore the one in the op damaged my phone.
It's for the Acer z525 aka the T06 liquid zest. Bought mine at Costco.

that is the stock firmware for the acer z525 aka the t06 aka liquid zest. This firmware flashes with sp flash tools. you will need the mtk preloader driver. alternativly, you can just flash the recovery and boot images included in the firmware package with fastboot. the commands are "fastboot flash boot <image>" for the boot and "fastboot flash recovery <image>" for the recovery. now as I said, this recovery works 100% for me and i have the same phone.... so When you unlocked your bootloader, you used the "fastboot oem unlock" command? and did you press the vol up button on the phone afterwards to confirm the unlock? and did it do a factory reset? all of these things are mandatory prior to flashing the recovery. if you did all of that then i gotta ask, Are you sure you have the z525 and not the z528 with lte?

the recovery i flashed was included at the stock which you had shared earlier..
Problem seems to be solved. it just did work magically. idk how and why but it works and boots up after some time.
as mentioned in the title, i cant get any twrp recovery to boot up.
i got my phone yesterday and succeeded updating it to the latest official version (V3.88 which is android 5.1.1 with nubia ui 4.0)
now i want to get a custom recovery
problem here is, i tried several versions that i found here and everyone doesn't boot up (just stays at the nubia logo)
i tried to flash it via fastboot of course. it gets flashed (command prompt returns "OKAY")
in fact everytime i reboot to android the recovery gets replaced automatically by the original one (at least thats how i think it happens). that means if i try to enter the recovery after i rebooted to android, the old original nubia recovery got restored.
am i missing a step or am i doing something wrong?
pls help
thanks in advance
where did you get v3.88 file?

Hello!
Thanks for reading this thread, there's a lot that I'm about to say based on what has happened for the past 8 hours of troubleshooting.
I hope you'll be able to help me regarding my issue.
Everything was going well as I on my way to unlock my bootloader (done) and root my device.
After rooting via TWRP, I'm stuck on the white XPERIA logo screen.
Proceeded to wipe my phone, and thanks to my stupidity, loss of OS.
Downloaded an GLOBAL OS online, tried to flash into my device with FlashTool.
Error came to me as I needed flash script.
Search online, to no avail, I went to my final option
I saw a tutorial of creating a pre-rooted ROM : https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/tool-prfcreator-easily-create-pre-t2859904
I attached my OS I previously downloaded which i tried to flash with FlashTool, attached SuperSu into the application and a flashablezip (as instructed).
Flashed this pre-rooted ROM into my device using TWRP, rebooted.
New problem: Stuck at white Sony logo, couldn't enter TWRP.
Flashed in via cmd.exe a working boot.img & recovery.img.
TWRP now works, but I'm back to square one : stuck at the white XPERIA logo screen.
If you've read all of that, I thank you so much for doing so.
I hope that you'll be able to help me after these gruesome 8-hours of researching, trial & error session.
It's about time I requested help from professionals.
Thank you!
Edit : I can boot up my phone now, however that's achievable by removing SuperSu via TWRP.
This is no longer an urgent need for help, but it will be nice if I could get an idea why would I be stuck at the XPERIA logo screen when SuperSu is installed.

Hi, without any logcat it will be very hard to help you
hey all!
So this is a first for me... I've been rooting and playing with android for a very long time (going back to the g1 days) and this is the first time I've ever seen this.
So I was on an old version of CM and decided it was time to update finally. I had unrooted a long time ago, but was still running cm perfectly fine. I went to install a new version of recovery (so I could update) and now when I try to boot into recovery I just get the oneplus logo. Here's the strange part, the phone isn't soft bricked... I can still boot into android no problem.
Anyone else every seen this problem? Do I need to start over (unlock bootloader, root, recovery, rom)?
Anyone else ever seen this happen on Oneplus One or any other phone for that matter?
Thanks in advance!
Same Problem Here
I am having the same exact issue with my OPX: I wanted to update my old CyanogenMod and for that I needed to update my TWRP. After I flashed it successfully when trying to boot into Recovery it stucks on the 1+ Logo forever.
If I boot into OS it works (the same old CM since I haven't been able to upgrade), Fastboot as well, it's Recovery that doesn't work.
I found some post for the OP3 that state:
WHY AM I STUCK ON THE TWRP SPLASH SCREEN FOR 8 HOURS?
Be patient, wait another 8 hours.
Just kidding, try this while stuck on the loading screen:
adb shell wipe_misc; adb shell reboot recovery
Some devices might somehow get a flag set in misc that tells the bootloader to ignore the android boot image command line.
This results in the kernel not receiving the hardware name (qcom), which then confuses recovery and causes it to wait forever. FOREVER.

I tried it and I got the following error:

I guess you were right! Here's what I did:
- Tried to reflash TWRP using adb. It did flashed it but couldn't boot it and throws error "dtb not found".
- I found this post that first suggested to use the Blue Spark version of the TWRP. I tried adb-ing it and got the same error.
- In a later comment the following video was suggested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTdKmceC5xU.
- I the downloaded the stock recovery and the stock ROM from this page: https://devs-lab.com/download-oneplus-official-stock-rom.html. Be sure to find the OnePlus X section.
- Using adb I flashed the stock recovery, did a full wipe, rebooted and copied the stock ROM to my SD card.
- Reboot to Recovery, flash from local, selected the Stock ROM zip and let it do its thing.
- Again, from Fastboot I flashed the latest TWRP. I didn't get any errors now!
- Downloaded the Tesla ROM and flashed it using TWRP.
Everything is working fine now!
