Moto G Power - ROM Suggestions/Tips for a Beginner - Moto G Power Questions & Answers

Hey Everyone,
I am pretty new to this and have been looking at getting a Moto G Power as my first phone to root/load a custom ROM on to. I had previously tried this with a Moto G Fast, but the phone was broken and did not allow for USB device detection, so I figured I may as well do a little upgrade and try again with the Moto G Power. Does anyone have any suggestions for custom ROMs? Or does anyone have suggestions on a different Motorola phone for a beginner (from what I understand unlocking the bootloader is the same on every Moto phone)? Also, any advice in general is greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time!

This (XT2041-4, US model) is my first Motorola device, so learning the 'unlock bootloader' method was new to me, having used Samsung tablets, but it is clearly explained in thus forum and was relatively painless. Not as easy as with my Samsung devices, i.e. had to get a code from Motorola.
I went with Resurrection Remix because I've used RR for my tablet in the past, and I knew it had a lot if customization options—I was not disappointed. I'm so pleased with it that I haven't even rooted; first device out if 10 or so that I haven't rooted.

How come you opted to not root the device? Also, I've been doing some digging on these forums and I think I may go with the Lineage 17.1 unofficial ROM. However, I am open to other options.

I'm satisfied (hell, I'm actually overjoyed) with the customization provided by RR. My current use case (phone/text/browse), doesn't call for my usual over-the-top privacy efforts; i.e. XprivacyLua (which requires Ed/Xposed, MyAndroid Tools, et. al.

[Q] Android Devices Currently Not Supported By Cyanogenmod

Hello Guys,
Could anyone please provide some info about this case:
o What are my options if I have an Android device (smartphone) not supported by CyanogenMod?
o Is there anything than waiting until my model will be added to the supported list? I bought a very simple and reasonably priced "no-name" phone (Simvalley SP-2X.SLIM), and I learn now one disadvantage is that it is not supported.
o I also did not find anything about rooting, flashing or even booting it up into safe mode / recovery.
Any help and info is very much appreciated.

Hy there, you can try TWRP Manager. It's a similar program

Well, here it is straight forward, your device only gets official support if the Cyanogenmod teams deems the unofficial build for it stable and reliable to gain official support. If there isn't any unofficial builds then it's safe to say that it will never have official support. As for rooting the device there may be methods for it available, a universal root for example, flashing as in roms and other things, no clue, never heard of that device before and there might not be any support for it either. So with that being said, hope this helps you.

Hi Yoelpro,
Thanks for your info. Since my first post I have managed to root my device - was very happy. It was not too easy, given that it is extremely minimal supported. I already tried TWRP with GooManager, but when I try to install an open recovery sript, surprise surprise: "no recoveries were found for your device".
Any ideas if there is another way to find one and copy it on the phone? I have to confess being too scared even trying to flash a custom ROM without flashing a backup first. I managed to find out that the stock ROM is a Vanilla on my Simvalley SP-2X.SLIM.
Thank you.

Hey there Critical Detox
Thanks for your info. Since my first post I have managed to root my device: Simvalley SP-2X.SLIM - was very happy to see that it is working.
Unfortunately, I could not even find an unofficial CM build, I'm quite sure that an official build does not exist. Interestingly, my device was once perfectly recognized as SP-2X.SLIM and once recognised as HTC (for drivers) during the rooting. I'm very curious IF or AS WHAT my device would be recognized if I started the one click install of CM. I might be a chicken, but a careful chicken as I don't want to do it before saving a backup of the stock ROM to my SD card first. When I try to install an open recovery sript (GooManager), surprise surprise: "no recoveries were found for your device". I managed to find out that the stock ROM on my device is a Vanilla 4.2.2 but could I not find this ROM to download yet.
Any help is very welcome, as I am not quite an expert and my phone is a quasi no-name model.
Cheers,
schmayer

[Q] xda or other ROM for LG G Vista?

Am I missing it or are there instructions to root and instructions for multi-boot but no ROM for the LG G Vista, please?
I've searched and read through a bunch of threads but nada ... so far.
Will any of the ROMs for other LG G-series phones work?
Thanks!
Wait ... I just looked in About phone and it says this is a VS880.
I just got this from Verizon.
I'm seeing the VS880 referred to as a G2 and a G3 on the Internet - what is it really, please?
It came with Android 4.4.2, kernel version 3.4.0+, and our son rooted it for me earlier today.
Just in case any of those details help ...

They are the same thing. One is the internal name while the other is normal users name of the device. As for roms make sure to do your reading up as the device is pretty locked down.
So, you are saying that there is no ROM anywhere for the LG G Vista/VS880?
Is there any reason to believe that anyone is actively developing one?
There are so many sites touting Rooting as a pathway to loading a ROM it seems odd there there is not one.

It takes more then root. You need an u locked bootloader or a way to bypass a locked bootloader like safestrap or bump. Most developers that make roms only make them for devices they own.
The bootloader bypass has been solved:

The LG G Vista/VX880 is "free" on Verizon with the $16/mo Edge data plan & has a nice big display.
I have my Samsung Tab4 7" tablet for sale as I don't need it now that I have the LG G Vista/VX880.
There are ROMs for the models all around the LG G Vista/VX880 - it's hard to believe that LG made that phone so radically different from the others that tweaking an existing ROM to port it would be beyond a developer.
Sure wish I had the skills ... sigh.
It's not really that. It's most developers seldom do ports. Let alone for devices that don't have. After looking at the spec is not a bad mid range device. But also remember that. Most carriers in the world are GSM carriers and very few work on cdma devices.
There are plenty of Tuts on how to port. Could be something you could look into

Modified request: Is there an app/hack that strips-out all of the Google stuff, especially their backdoors & data-leeching?
If no one is going to build a custom mod - which seems apparent - it sure would be good to have a clean machine onto which to then install carefully selected apps.
Thanks!

Simple answer is no. You would have to build a rom from source and then remove alot of the Google based code. There is a project that is working on it but you lose alot of functionality.

Cannot the functionality be restored via privacy-respecting alternative apps?
What about an app that monitors the bad behavior of the Google code than cannot be removed and blocks execution of data-leeching & activity monitoring?

Not completely no. Many have been trying over the years. Your biggest issue is the device your using. Once that is taken care of you can try and build something but like I said alot of the stuff is built directly into the os.
To be honest privacy is an illusion at best now a days. Every thing monitors what you do. From credit cards to social net networking. It is all made to get as much info as it can about a person. Even carriers do it. It has even come to light that Verizon can monitor the apps installed on a device.

I just re-flashed my VX880 last night to stock 5.1.1.
I can give some pointers that I had to work through if you have any questions, or have not gotten any help since last November.
I have spent many hours looking .

Many Many hours wasted on Google,Bing, ect. I haven't found anything. I have seen where some people refer to this as the same as a G2 And others but it's clearly not. But yeah wish someone would put something out. Agreed. I have however figured out how to get Viper4Android and Dolby Atmos to work. So if anyone is interested in knowing how that's done hit me up. All you have to have is root. NO custom recovery. Haven't seen a post on how to do that either? I still have 8 more to go before I can post lol.

LG G Pad X 8.0 (Tmo) rootable?

Hi, first android device in a very long time. Doesnt seem to be any conversation about this newly released device. Would any of the roms/mods/etc for the LG G Pad 8.0 also work for this device? Any help would be appreciated. I made a request for a device subforum but im a little unsure how else to go about getting the ball rolling.
I just got it too. I honestly don't even care about rooting. I just want stock Android. My Nexus has me spoiled.
On your side.. already unlocked bootloader and got the 128gb microsd from SanDisk for this beauty!

There's another thread which seems to be the main thread to discuss unlocking the bootloader, adoptable storage, and hopefully eventually custom recovery and root.

A little late, but maybe, still useful.
The situation is similar with G5 (some fastboot commands are missing). However, .tot method will do the trick.
That's when we get a .kdz file. Most likely when Nougat comes out. But if we can get the .hex and .bin to revive the phone....
I have the AT&T version seems very similar except mine has 32gb of storage not 16gb. Pretty sweet so far for getting it free.
The current software, V52110b, is vulnerable to all four of the vulnerabilities recently disclosed and nicknamed "QuadRooter." If someone reverse engineers the patch, it should show how to exploit the vulnerability for root.

Question why the community for edge 30 pro is not that active?

5 years ago when i got Moto g5 plus. its community was very proactive in terms of ROMs and stuff, but that is not the case here with edge 30 pro, is it beacuse the phone is not that popular or its new? coz i am thinking of getting this or the upcoming moto frontier but since moto only supports the device for 2 years, i want to root my phone and install a custom ROM on it. does anyone know if the custom ROMs will be availabe for it anytime soon, and also if anyone can make a tutorial about rooting the phone, that will be very helpful. Thanks
The phone is new, not that popular, and motorola doesnt make it easy for custom roms either. We can probably count on some more popular ROMs like LineageOS as more people get the phone and demand rises.

thank you, but i dont think lineage OS will be better than the stock moto UI, i still love my moto g5 plus due to its support. Motorola should either provide atleast 3 years of supoprt or make the unlocking and installing TWRP easier. also one more thing i didnt saw TWRP installation in the provided link is it due to Motorola being more strict??

TWRP itself is on the decline since Android 10. Magisk-patching boot manually has become the more universal rooting method.

You can check this out now:
[ROM][13][borneo] AOSP 13 [Monthly Builds]Some members are working on LinegeOS etc., but not yet ready for 'prime-time' as far as I know.
That would be sweet! I love lineage. It's a great phone, just need to find the devs to work on it.
