Persist Partition Corrupted and Recovered. - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Guides, News, & D

In my aim to bypass the Google Photos storage limitation I tried my hand at (21-05-2021)Pixel Experience Rom (O.S.S Based). I was a painless experience to Flash the rom file through Orange Fox recovery. Initially the Rom was super stable and had everything I would use for my Daily Driver. Soon after I finalised everything in the Rom I received the 26-05 update of the Rom. I of course installed it as advised in the thread. Soon after rebooting everything was going fine when I received a WhatsApp video call, but front Cam kept going up and down with great difficulty. I tried the default camera app of the Rom to check and there too front cam would not Pop out smoothly and I would get error for Calibrating the Front cam. On going for calibration it would not work. I tried doing a complete clean flash of the 26-05 Rom but error would not go away.
Now I got worried and tried to do a Clean flash of Stock 12.0.5 Miui Indian Rom via Recovery but the Front cam was less then stable. It would work sometimes and some times it would pop up a little less the full out. Due to that the Cam pic would come slightly blurry. I Googled the front cam calibrating issue and found a lot of references to Persist partition. Also guys @Pixel experience telegram channel guided me through a lot of trial and error but nothing worked. I tried restoring an 2 months old FOX backup of then Stock Miui installation. That seemed to help a little but cam was still Unstable. I tired to Do a Clean Fastboot Flash of the 12.0.5 Miui stock and that to gave similar unstable results where I would be required to calibrate the front cam which would not work.
Then following some YouTube instructions i decided to try the dreaded Persist image flash(from the Fastboot stock Image). At this moment I was resigned to loose my Widewine L1.... But that too did not help a bit and A repeat Clan Fastboot flash of Stock also failed to do anything to the Front cam problem. Finally I gave up the whole thing and decided to just use the phone without Selfies cam.
Did everything needed to get a working Phone with stock Miui rooted and everything. But now the phone kept getting Encrypted despite doing everything to prevent that. (DM verity and also Ofox force disable encryption).
Finally tiring of all the crap, I went to sleep leaving my phone as it was. In the morning while searching for a solution I cam across a Orange fox Backup I had taken a while back which had only the most Important Partitions (Persist, VBMeta, etc) on my computer. I said lets try this one too..
I did a clean Fastboot flash of current stock Miui and then flashed latest Ofox recovery via ADB. Then in recovery (where i again faced the encryption issue which i this time chose to do a flash unlock.)
In recovery I did a complete wipe and format of data partition. After this I copied my Fox backup and Rom Folder from the computer.
I restored the small Backup (It has Persist, Vbmeta, Dtbo etc) After this without wiping anything I flashed Stock recovery 12.0.5 Miui (an older downloaded copy from my computer). Flashed DM -verity file. and after wiping dalvic rebooted the system. Took a while but System booted up fine. After this I started the process of restoring the Google Backup. After a couple of reboots and finishing the setup I tried the front cam . It worked smoothly for all the 20 or so times i tried it. SO finally i was able to get rid of the Problem..
Though I do seem to have lost the Widewine L1... So if anyone has a sureshot way to get that back please help me out..
So lesson I learned is Always have Complete Backup and special Backup of important Partitions....

You can get widevine L1 back by flashing xiaomi.eu rom 12.5.5 or 12.5.6
There might be other custom roms with this functionality

Bricked the phone by wiping every partition in TWRP

My Redmi 5 plus won't boot as I messed up everything while trying to flash a couple of ROMs. At first the two ROMs that I flashed were working well. But after some time, whatever ROM I flashed, the phone started to restart while setting up the first boot (choosing language, region, etc.) and no further. So I tried wiping every partition there is under the TWRP wipe section (cache, system, vendor, data, internal storage, and so forth). Then flashed a custom ROM again with and without GApps but no success. I noticed that the phone even started to restart before the first boot finished. Also, after flashing stock ROM, TWRP said no OS installed. I even tried flashing stock MIUI ROM in fastboot mode. Although it went well, still bootloop and the device keeps restarting. However, before all of these problems, I did take a backup of every partition, leaving nothing behind, so I restored everything but again the "No OS installed, are you sure to boot?" message. Now I'm freaking out, not knowing what to do. I read somewhere that flashing via QPST tool may help but I'm having problems with installing it.
If I manage to make my phone work again, I will not flash any other ROM, ever.
Try installing new firmware with recovery, if that doesnt help you can try flashing with EDL mode.
Just open your phone and bridge these points ( on photo ) and connect phone to PC.
It should appear in XiaoMiFlash as COM[number].
Good luck!

Did u have the global or Chinese rom installed?
And which twrp version do u have?

MTK phone refuses to wipe/format/flash anything or even be bricked.

Its my daughters bog standard, cheap chinese MTK6580 phone (uhappy up580 if it matters)
It came with stock 5.0 a few years back so I flashed TWRP, rooted it, ported a CRdroid 5.1 rom for it and was working fine. Yesterday on boot every app refused to start, or stopped, or froze including stock launcher and settings so I couldnt do anything at all. Booted to TWRP and wiped cache and dalvik but although TWRP said completed, it hadnt.
So decided to wipe EVERYTHING including data and again TWRP said it had but upon reboot the faulty rom was still there, not working.
Tried to flash a backup that ended in tar error, fixed that and it flashed the backup fine, rebooted but it hadnt.
Tried to TWRP flash a new rom, said it had but it hadnt,
Used SPFlash tools to flash the stock 5.0 rom, THAT said it completed after the usual time and procedure, rebooted but it hadnt
Used SPFlash tools to completely format and wipe the phone which also said it had completed but it hadnt.
I CANNOT wipe this phone using any method I know of! or install or flash anything! Just this same custom rom that was fine for years and just went wrong. Does ANYONE know how I can somehow wipe this phone or flash a new rom? Tried flashing a TWRP with SP tools AND a TWRP .img and they all said completed but obviously, nothing did.... I've accidently bricked phones easier than I can deliberately wipe this one
Any help greatly appreciated.

Can't transfer roms through TWRP

Hi
A couple of months ago i decided to change my battery because it was draining for nothing, before that i tried to downgrade to miui 9 and 10, and it didn't change anything, so i thought that the battery was the problem.
But even after changing the battery, i still had this drain issue, so i thought " Miui 11 and kernel?" , so i downgraded again, flashed the optimusdrunk kernel and nothing !
So this morning i decided to tried another rom, the pixel experience, i didn't wanted to do that in the first place because i wanted to keep features such as native call recorder or screen recorder. But i've rather loose thoses features if that can help with my battery issues.
I follow the steps of this tutorial : https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/development/rom-pixel-experience-t3967593
And after i wiped dalvik, cache, system, data in TWRP, flashed the rom then factory reset, the rom was succesfully installed, i booted the phone, google logo appeared quite fast, then gave me this " Enable Encryption, please wait a while blablabla" , so i wait, at least 15min , so i figured something was wrong right?
So i rebooted the phone after flashing the twrp recovery again (it always dissapeared when i flash a rom i don't know why..), boot into TWRP and i wanted to see if i did something wrong, but i realized that my sd card didn't show up, and all of my roms was not there anymore , and TWRP says that there is no space available (0mb) (because of the factory reset), so i plug my phone into my computer, but i can't transfer anything to it!!
Now i'm stuck with a phone with no system, and no ability to transfer a simple zip file to flash another rom/firmware
Is there any other way to transfer files or flash a rom with adb command ?
Does that have to do with the encyption thing ?
Cheers

Went back to stock to flash a new custom rom but whatever I try I get boot loops.

HD1910 model, I had a working rom and tried various custom kernels to help battery life but decided to change to a rom that I can update via the phone rather than manual fastboot flash.
Chose Carbon rom, went back to latest stock with MSMtool, unlocked bootloader and seemed ok, but got a bootloop.
Thought something was wrong so used MSMtool again and tried various small differences i.e running fastboot -w before I flashed rom, before and after and either got a constant bootloop or a strange occurance where after it bootlooped a few times it went back to a factory reset stock rom.
I attempted to do a slower wipe i.e erase system, boot etc one by one but it said error (I used bootloader fastboot which I can't remember is different) I tried TWRP 3.4.0.2 and 3.4.01
I get FDE error, system_mount and vendor so what is the issue?
I even tried Lineage and same issue, just constant boot logo loops.
I would prefer a custom rom not stock
Is having a custom kernel affecting the install?
"went back to latest stock with MSMtool, unlocked bootloader and seemed ok, but got a bootloop."
This is the only thing that matters, as MSMTool completely resets the phone, if a problem happens after it's not related on what you did before.
My guess, maybe wrong MSMtool?
Or maybe you flashed the room incorrectly?
And what error you did get when you ran fastboot -w?
Pretty much sorted now, I wiped with fastbootd, then installed via a payloaddumper rather than in TWRP, I worked out what was causing bootloop was opengapps, once I used a older version (of the same android 10, pico arm64 etc) it installed and booted.
Only issue now is ctsprofile is false, but at least phone all works.

Flashing custom rom not working (recovery loop - messy data folder) MiNote10 (tucana)

Hej everyone,
I flashed a custom rom from mi-globe a few months. It was working great. Then I had the not so incredible idea of updating with latest miui eu 12, because the weekly update from the update menu was not working. It kinda worked, but it got too buggy. So I wanted to come back to a xiaomiEU Stable Rom.
It is now that problems begin. When I flashed miui eu 12, I got recovery loop. Lost all my data trying to fix, but I was able to flash the stock rom via the amazing XiaomiADBFastbootTools in my GNU/Linux distro. It worked! But the main issue is can not flash the custom rom again. I download the custom rom in the internal storage, flash the twrp via fastboot, enter recovery, create full backup, wipe to factory reset and flash the custom rom. Everything seems successful, but then I get a recovery loop again and when I try to restore the backup, the data folder is filled with folders and files with random chars in the names. Apparently the data folder becomes read-only for some reason as well. Then I have to flash the stock rom and tried everything again. I have done it at least 5 times now. I have searched a lot for some solution and nothing works
I have tried the OrangeFox recovery and the mi-globe rom, same issue. I really want a custom rom :fingers-crossed:, but I have no idea what to do anymore. If I could at least restore my backed up stock rom, it would help a lot.
Please help me out and sorry I posted in the wrong section.
