Finger sensor not working after screen replacement - Moto G9 Power Questions & Answers

TL-DR Supposed OEM screen replacement done at a local shop. Fingerprint reader won't work. Known issue or shop trying to screw me over?
---
Hey guys,
Sorry if this has already been posted. My dad's an older man with some slight issues with smaller phones so I got him this brick of a phone. He managed to drop it and the screen cracked. The phone still worked (including the fingerprint reader) I ordered him a replacement screen that is supposed to be an OEM and made him go to a local store for replacement. They did the job and didn't tell him the fingerprint reader is fked.
I find out and tell him to go get his money back to which the guy says "oh sorry it will never work I just forgot to tell you". I looked at some forums and have read posts concerning pairing issues but nothing related to this phone. I wanted the shop to do the repair just to avoid fking over a cable or something, but before I open the phone I'd like to know if he could be telling the truth about it being an issue.

Fingerprint sensor shouldn't be affected by a screen replacement, ideally. This is some shady stuff going on by that repair shop here.

screen broke after fall

just as the thread says, my phone hit the ground and the inside part of the screen cracked (not the surface). What options do i have that wont rape my wallet?
Unless you have the ability to open it and fix it your self or a warranty still in place, I'll say just buy a new phone, though the vibrant is a sexy phone, I doubt you will find it.
This video explains and shows everything, how to do it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLUl9tlHSik
If you visit the store from the people who made the video, you will also find replacement parts...but...from my experience with Iphone repairs, they are totally overpriced...try to google for other shops...or try ebay.
At least you see it is possible...
Ok forget it, obviously Samsung won't sell any AMOLED screens to third parties till 2012, means, the replacement screens you might be able to buy are not really OEM and AMOLED...so be aware...at least thats what I all found out using google.
so my options are thin basically.. this sucks, i mean i could send it to samsung for $161 repair but **** man, i just can't afford the repair right now, been driving me nuts for the last two days
Did you have a case on it? If you're accident prone, an otterbox can save you from most falls as long as that fall isn't screen-first onto a big metal spike.
Yeah, not much you can do about the screen. However, used Vibrants are all over eBay ranging from $250 all the way down to a full working one for $160 from a 100% seller with many many sales (AKA reasonably reliable).
My condolences either way. Breaking the screen is one of my biggest fears.

HTC Titan proximity sensor not working

Had this phone about 3 weeks now and all of a sudden whenever I make a phone call the screen just goes black until I take the battery out or the other person hangs up. Is there a way to tweak the proximity sensor settings like on the omnia 7 etc?
I'm having the exact same issue. I've only had my Titan for about four days now.
I just firmly pressed on the front and back of the device as if to correctly place put the back case on. This works for a while and 'randomly' quits. I have yet to figure this one out.
I've not had this problem but you could try the other rom from here. I had the .02 but changed it to .06

Not had any problems with my titan since I flashed it.

Thanks! I'm gonna' try flashing this. HOPEFULLY, it will work.
I'll post back with my result.
Nothing! Tried the ROM update but no luck. Still having the same problem.
Dam thats a shame, could be a hardware issue
same issue on mine. Had it 2 weeks and it just started going black when calls come in or go out. I have a replacement on the way, I hope its an isolated issue...
Same here. Had mine for 2 months and now I have this issue.
Any ideas on how to solve this yet?
same here...
any hints if its a hardware issue or a software issue
mine also worked a wile and then stopped working...
You may already have tried or been aware of this so forgive my two penneth worth, When I had my HD2 It was the screen protector that tripped out the light sensor and kept the screen dark etc, May be worth a try if you have one fitted as it did the trick.
HTC Titan Prox Sensor
I do hardware repairs on phones, and currently having this issue with an HTC Titan. It seems very likely to be a hardware issue. The back cover feels loose and sloppy in my opinion, yet seems to play a role in properly grounding some of the auxiliary sensors. I'm considering trying to order the part, but it seems to be impossible to find except from a used phone. The proximity sensor is on a small chipboard that snaps directly into a connector on the motherboard. The solution of pressing the screen and back housing together makes sense if that proximity sensor isn't making a good connection to the board (or if it isn't grounding properly).
In my experience, I'd say this phone is a pain in the butt to diagnose and repair.
Exact same problem! Was thinking about doing a hard reset, but it seems like that won't fix it. I bought my Titan used, and maybe that's why it was on eBay. Phone works perfectly otherwise, absolutely love it. They sell new covers on Amazon, maybe that will fix it, by applying more pressure on the proximity sensor. Wish there was a simple fix.
I have this issue as well. I have found out that when you press the upper right corner of the screen the display comes back on but as soon as you let go it goes black again.
Also if you slightly open the back cover from the bottom the display comes back on as well but you lose signal because the antenna is disconnected. When you close the back cover the display goes black again.
It happens with outgoing and incoming calls.
This is really annoying and if I would very much like to know if it's a hardware or software issue.

Update:
I think I've found a solution.
I believe the the proximity sensor is in the narrow gap above the screen.
I opened the back cover and I slightly scratched the two contacts on the top of the back cover with my fingernail.
My Titan somehow is now working again and when I move my finger close to the narrow gap the display goes black.
I therefore think it's just a matter of a dodgy contact between the proximity sensor and the back cover.
I think I'll order a new back cover fom eBay to see if this improves things. My back cover is damaged anyway.
Possible Solution
i hope this is the solution cuz im tired of messing with this phone (we lost money trying to repair this phone, ie. negative profit, cuz the lcd and digitizer are fused together and it took forever for the parts to be available online). BIG Thanks to everyone who contributed to this forum thread.
The problem is almost certainly hardware and related to the back cover. good news means that it should cost nothing to fix. *warning* as always, you could break your phone if you arent careful. I havent tested this solution but i will tomorrow. On the motherboard are "metal brushes". That means springy metal contacts that are meant to make contacts between parts that arent closely touching. look at the back cover and find those contact plates, then look on the board for the corresponding brushes. gently pull those brushes up away from the motherboard to make them extend further, and see if you can get the back cover to fit more snugly on the phone. be careful with those brushes, metal can only be bent so far before breaking and then youll have to do board-level soldering (pain in the butt, not easy). if you can ensure proper contact between the back cover and the motherboard, then you shouldnt have any more issues with the proximity sensor.
this is my educated guess, let me know if you have any luck.
PS! been using iphone 4 for like a month, and the more i use it the more i hate it. i typed this up with iphone 4. so much hardware power with so little control. id recommend iphone to anyone who doesnt like technology. iOS is a POS
Called HTC and I'm still under warranty. I'm going to be sending in the phone for repairs tomorrow for this problem, we'll see what happens. They said it'd take 14 days to get my phone back.

Hi Flavio, have you bought a new cover? Has it fixed your problem?
Have the same problem with the sensor, i´ve tried other roms to, but still the same problem. i dont think, that this problem is a hardware issue of the proximity sensor, becaue sometimes it works sometimes note... very curious...
I just got a new Titan with the same problem. I took the phone to HTC repair center and the repair status on their website shows is that its been fixed, meaning I should get it back early next week. I will report here about the description what they did to it.
And this is clearly a HW issue. Taking off the back cover seems to affect little, but not 100% remove the problem.
Had this issue. When I sent it off to HTC they replaced the screen together with the dusty FFC issue
I had a similar problem that was fixed by turning of "Automatically adjust" in the brightness setting.

[Q] i9100 Screen problem

I bought a galaxy s2 recently and the screen fails to register my touches suddenly.
Here the weird part, the screen is able to display everything perfectly.. but half of the screen doesnt register my touches.. left side not working, but right side is working..
so decided to send my phone for warranty and after a month, the distributor said that the LCD Socket is faulty due to the phone is pressed too hard.. they say it needs to replace the whole LCD Screen..
Is it possible to replace the LCD Socket only?
Why would you risk attempting to fix it yourself & voiding your warranty when you can get it fixed for nothing/properly under warranty ?
They are charging me myr700 for replacing the Lcd screen.. how is posible to damage the socket where the Lcd screen is perfectly fine? (no cracks no scratches no dents)
By right they should replace it for me without paying anything right?
Ahhhh. They're charging you. OK. I don't know what the warranty covers in your country or what your rights are with regard to same.
I know in Australia if my screen started to die like that after a month Samsung would be paying to replace the screen/the phone. At worst I'd end up paying postage to send the phone in to them.
It might well be worth your while/cheaper replacing it yourself in that case. Not sure if it's possible to replace just the socket, you may have to replace the whole screen. Plenty of tutorials to show you how to do this online, and you can get the screens from a plenty of places online as well (eBay might be a good start).
Thanks for the suggestion..
I searched internet for the i9100 LCD Socket but no results found.. I guess I have to replace the whole LCD Screen already.. ebay selling them around myr600+ also.. So is it better to DIY or pay a little bit more and letting the professionals to do it?
There are some doubts that I would love to ask you.. I always place the phone inside my jean's pocket and they said the pressure of jean's is high enough to cause damage to the phone's internals. Is that true? The jeans Im wearing is not very tight either..
I guess whether worth saving MYR 100 is worth it or not depends on how technically adept you are, I.E, do you think you can swap the screen out successfully based on having a look at the video tutorials that show you how to do it ? If you're in any doubt, you'd probably want to have it done professionally. I cracked the screen of my Nokia N958GB about two weeks after I got it a few yrs ago, ended up having it done professionally as the saving if I did it myself would have been similar to your situation now (I would have saved maybe $50-$60 AUD). I'm just not dexterous enough to do a job like that perfectly
I keep my SGS2 in my front jeans pocket when I wear them & haven't had a problem, tho I do have a fake leather flip case. I'd be surprised if the pressure from having them in a not tight jeans pocket would be enough to damage the phone, unless you put pressure on the phone while it was in your pocket maybe ?
Sounds like they're trying to weasel their way out of repairing it under warranty to me, but the problem is (which other people have found on here over the past few mths I've been visiting here) trying to prove that they should repair it under warranty which would probably cost you as much/more than the repair is worth to have an 'expert' (someone who works with small electronics) examine your phone & who is prepared to issue a report or similar saying it's definitely a fault with the phone & wasn't caused by you.
Tricky situation you're in man Maybe contact a consumer organisation in your country and ask for advice if they still refuse to repair it under warranty ?
Hope you get it sorted under warranty.

Alright, thanks a lot for the information. I think I better let them repair the phone because if I repair the phone myself, its pretty risky and i might even damage the phone further.
I will try to discuss/talk to the distributor and try to solve this under warranty. tqvm. appreciate that.
No probs Good luck with it. Let us know how you get on.

[q] need help fast, lcd looks as if its broken???

I just recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S2 from eBay, the seller stated that the LCD screen was "very dark" and not quite working right. When I received the phone it was far more then "very dark", half of the screen looks as if the LCD is leaking out or has been broken? The digitizer is mint and works and the phone its self is in AMAZING shape. NO scratches or chips or anything. It honestly looks brand new. I even tested the battery for usage and its showing up that this battery IS indeed brand new. Like I said it is mint so there is no possible way this phone was dropped. My first guess was a ROM issue, but I just noticed you can see the screen defect without the phone even being turned on. So what I am thinking is water damage. I read all over online about people having problems with there screens going black, this might also be the case. If it is water damage, does anyone know EXACT locations of indicators on the phone? I looked in the battery compartment and found nothing what so ever. I want to sell this thing today, (just received it in the mail) I need the cash so I was hoping someone would be able to point me in the right direction?? I uploaded photos below, the second one is with the phone turned off, the reflection is from my computer. For reference, it is the Samsung Galaxy SII 19100, with Bell Canada. Thanks in advanced!
I'm no expert but does not look like something you can fix yourself I'm afraid.
Send it back I say.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
send it back to whoever sold it
you kinda got scammed there, imho
See Im trying to figure out if the LCD was broken by physical damage or if this has happened before to people, because if its a manufacturing issue I can just send it back to Samsung and they will fix it no problem as long as this was caused on their part. If it WAS broken by the ebay seller, I might be better off buying a new lcd and installing it myself. I only paid $200CAD so it would be worth keeping if all thats wrong is the LCD. But like I said I would rather Samsung do it, lol its free.

Scratch that, the LCD is almost $200. Not worth buying and fixing. But does anyone know if this could be classified as a manufacturing issue? I can just send it in if it is?
anybody at all?? I just want to confirm that this could be a manufacturing issue, theres no water damage and the screen is not cracked from a drop any ideas would be awesome. I might just try to send it in to Samsung just to see what happens.

[Q] My Prime finally croaked. [Return help!]

This was the tablet my family got me for my birthday. For January. I preordered and received it sometime after.
It worked fine, then few trouble everyone had showed up; I thought I'd be fine.
I forgave it when it had Bluetooth problem and GPS signal problem.
Then Wi-Fi gets lost, I have screen bleeding on top; I'm fine with that.
Green camera I got it too, then my tablet reads and writes so slow I sat 30 minutes one time waiting for my Winamp (or any music player for that matter) to boot... It was still usable.
Now USB connector won't read (I tried plugging to 3 different PC; no success. They used to work before) and now it refuses to update to JellyBean. It refuses to read my MicroSD card also now.
Sure I rooted, and certainly I dropped it once. If dropping it once from waist height causes all this problem (I had green camera problem little after), I'm gonna have to say I can't swallow my pride anymore.
I'm thinking about returning this thing to Amazon and ask for full refund at this point. I don't want to be stuck with RMA hell most people faced and I want something that just works.
Now, I also have ACH on this... I also read some people were able to get full ACH refund for this; is this true?
I also have a cover and Skinomi on this; have anyone tried returning accessories also? How did that go?
...overall, only question I have is this.
Did I wait too long on return?
On phone with Amazon right now...
First they told me they had option to replace my tablet with new one.
I was okay with that, but then they told me they can't do that anymore.
I'm okay with that so I asked for refund. They sent me labels and now I'm working on returning accessories.
They are currently transferring me to 3rd Party Specialist so I can return the accessories also.
(Attempting to return the case, AHD Insurance, and the Skinomi)
Only thing I would feel bad for I guess is the screen protectors. Skinomi is best protector I bought indeed...
It still looks good through all the possible wear and tear I put through;
Regular GNexus screen protector I bought with Verizon fell apart once and I had to replace it;
Phone is younger then the tablet to make matters worse lol
I'll keep you guys posted but this made me realize few things:
1. I need to buy more from Amazon (lol)
2. Skinomi is definitely worth the money
3. I don't know if I can trust Asus anymore after Prime failed on me this hard.
