I am currently running on Arrow OS if it matters. I had been using this Rom for about 2 months now and everything was fine. And today suddenly as I was listening to music it started to have a scratchy effect. It kept getting worse. Now its pretty much inaudible.
Is this a hardware issue? How can I fix this?
Thank you.
I had this problem few days ago its cause of that speaker damaged
I've replaced it

I know some Custom roms have this bug but ArrowOS did not list it under bugs so I assumed speaker breaking won't be a problem.
How much did it cost for you, if you don't mind me asking. and what custom rom are you using?

I've searched for this problem, found some stuff that is close but I haven't been able to find it exactly.
Speakerphone and built-in microphone work fine.
But when I use my headset (Bose MIE2), the microphone fades in and out when I am on a call. People say it will sound fine and then start to sound "tinny" or like I'm "in a can". Seems like this happens when I stop talking and they speak and the background noise becomes louder to the caller. And it doesn't last. It fades in and out, several times on a call.
This headset worked fine on stock AT&T Gingerbread.
About two months ago, I decided to root my phone for the first time and install a modded ROM. So I flashed CM7. Headphone mic worked fine on CM7.
Bose microphone was also working fine on CM9 - one of the early release candidates.
At that point, flashing became easy so I started on the nightlies (I'm sounding like an addict, aren't I? I feel like one!!!).
Then I found my dream flasher/pusher, Task! I've been on AOKP ROM (currently up to date on the 5.1.2012 release) ever since. Awesome ROM, if you haven't tried it.
Still having the headphone mic issue though.
I've wiped fully several times (yes, I read every post in your thread, Task), trying to clear this up.
I also wondered if the headphones where jacked so I returned them to Bose and the new pair is presenting the same issue.
I have read all about the built-in mic swapping issues with the different kernels.
I've tried NEAK and Siyah and I'm careful to be sure I have the mic swapping versions for AOKP/CM. My phone does not like NEAK at all. Loves Siyah - getting fantastic battery life (14 hours today, 27% screen time and WiFi on all day with 20% battery remaining) and responsive. I'm currently on the latest Siyah ICS [v3.2rc1] with UC 200 to 1000, lulz/vr only. It is also awesome, thanks, Ktoonsez!
I'm wondering if that mic swapping on the phone has anything to do with the mic on the headset.
Also, is there anything else I can check to help troubleshoot this in more detail?
Finally, are there any controls for headphone mics or even microphone settings in ROM Control or anywhere else that can be adjusted?
Thanks for your help in advance!
The NEAK kernel only has one choice for Tasks rom, no need to pick between mic swap.

I'm wishing it was that simple. On NEAK, I've tried the AOSP - still have the issue. My phone freezes too often on that kernel.
On Siyah, I get the mic swap version for AOKP/CM - still having the issue.
The latest Siyah runs like a beast and gets fantastic battery, just has the fading issue.

It appears that the HTC One stock ROMs suffer from the same bluetooth audio distortion that was plaguing the N4 and other AOSP 4.1.x and up ROMs until recently.
Can someone please test some mp3 audio that is:
- Local on their device, bitrate higher than 256kbps
- streaming to a set of good speakers that can reproduce high frequencies well
Play some Led Zeppelin or jazz that has lots of cymbal work, or some vocal music, and listen for distortion on the cymbal crashes or the 's' or 'ch' sounds.
I don't believe it is just me. HTC One Sprint users are reporting the same. I just want to make sure it isn't just them and my unit or something.

I can confirm it does. Had the Nexus 4 and right now I'm using the HTC One (unlocked). Thinking of getting rid of it since my T-Zones does not work with it.

Sigh. 3 steps forward, 4 steps backwards (at least for me). That distortion is terribly grinding on the ears.
CM10.1 will save me! When it is released...
Just FYI, tested with AOSP CM10.1 ROM and the problem is gone. It's definitely a bug that exists in the stock Sense 5 ROM.
I thought I was the only one (no pun) with this issue. It's very annoying. I hope the stock version gets fixed soon.
Anyone with the recent sense updates have any improvement on this front?

Doesn't make a difference. Using the 4.2.2 ROM too. Sorry for the late reply bro.

I have a Sprint HTC One, but the Bluetooth problem is the only reason I keep going back to ViperROM from CM10.1. My Bluetooth (Jawbone ERA) works fine for music and other media sounds, but phone audio is completely messed up. My speech is not getting picked up at all, and the remote party sounds garbled. I also tried disabling the WiFi per your request, but that had zero effect. I went from a 5/27 nightly to 6/19, but the Bluetooth phone audio issue has remained.

I have a T-Mobile HTC One and same deal... had Dirty Unicorns installed and bluetooth music/etc worked great, but phone calls were just a fuzzy, distorted mess. And since I still use my phone for calls (and rely on a headset for work) it was unusable.
Right now I'm rocking a stock rooted ROM since I haven't found a ROM yet that works well enough to be my daily.
There has been similar but not exact posts to this. The issue is the serious lack of sensitivity change with the S3's mic. Recording a video for example, is a nightmare. The sound quality is garbage and always has been with all galaxy models. My first Samsung Galaxy S phone i had, had a firmware hack where VoodooSound could control the sensitivity of the microphone and it went from awful to perfect!! Is there anything similar i can do with my phone? The mic is just way too sensitive and just cracks the f*ck up in any situation louder than conversation volume.
Currently running CWM 6+/Cyanogen Mod. All up to date.
Any help and information would be greatly accepted.
Cheers guys!

Given you're running cyanogenmod, I would say that might be an issue given all the problems with that on the s3

It's really not. The microphone issue is exactly the same with or without the mod.

the problem is when the next OTA. i've been waiting for 24 hours since the announcement of upcoming fix and didnt get any updates. they sell this devices as gaming phone, but gaming performance is really bad. cant hear any sound when using headset, miss touch when presing the display. i knew its mostly software related so why they didnt test it first, we arent beta tester.
Hi,
I have been experiencing low call volumes since few month's, exactly don't remember when this started and what was the reason behind it.
I tried out all the possible troubleshooting methods but nothing worked till now, but there is one strange thing that when i use whatsapp or any other internet voice call applications the sound is normal, loud and crystal clear. The only issue is with the normal calls.
I'm assuming it's because of the last update of miui 11.0.8, though i am not sure but i have strong feeling that the update is the issue.
I'm running MIUI 11.0.8 Global Rom and phone is not rooted neither bootloader is unlocked.
If anybody know what's the reason behind it or anybody has a solution for it, kindly share asap.
And if someone else is experiencing the same issue do share your feedback on this thread.
Any kind of help and feedfack is appreciated.
Thanks
i'm facing the same issue best case to wait for another update to fix it
Maybe you should try to clean the mesh that is on the speaker.
Mine mic totally "glued" by dirt ( I bouth used phone). It was hard to clean it without damaging the mic. Try isopropyl alcohol.
I guess its 11.0.8 update issue. Lets wait for next update till next year. ****ty China.
Do you guys think factory reset will solve this issue?
Did 11.0.9 update resolved this issue for anyone?
Guys one thing i can confirm is, its not due to the software. Thinking its the Miui,i rooted the phone and flashed Corvus ROM, but still the issue persists..

Have you tried flashing custom kernel?
Maybe that might help.
MIUI comes with Silvercore kernel and most probably Corvus comes with the same.
I suggest use optinus drunken or sphinx kernel
I hope its helps you.
I did flashed sphinx kernel.. even though it's better than previous but still is low..
Is your device rooted?
No.. by rooted means ' did I flash magisk?'.. no I didn't flash magisk..

If you've tried all possible methods on the software end then it might be an issue with hardware. If you have a local cellphone repair, might want to have it checked.
Actually after a day flashing the kernel, the audio volume has increased significantly.. guess the new kernel is learning the volume.. finally now I am able to use my poco F1..

Just an update.. the phone is back!!! Kernel was the issue. After flashing custom kernel microphone volume is fixed..
Which kernel did you flash?

I use to sing in Karaoke apps. What I noticed that this is the issue with Firmware itself. All Android 10 firmwares like 11.0.4, 11.0.6, 11.0.8 and 11.0.9.
Because when I flash any Rom based on Android 9 with any Pie firmwares till 11.0.5 I use to set my Mic gain to" -2" in Karaoke apps... As it's too loud.
But when I use any Android 10 rom with Android 10 firmware then I have to set Mic gain to "+3.5".. as it's too low and I can't hear anything.. and even after setting it up at +3.5 it's barely audible..
This is not hardware issue at all this is particularly firmware issue. Because it's working fine in Pie firmwares.
If you don't believe then you may experience it by your own. Just flash any Rom based on 11.0.5 firmware and see the difference in Mic volume in any recording apps or whatsapp voice messages or video calls or Messenger calls etc
I have got the same issue. Don't understand why the volume is low. Did you find any fix for the same?
you can use Franco Kernel Manager, in the kernel settings it is possible to change the sound. but it needs root, i always use it with all kernel and roms you can buy it on playstore very cheap.
