Anyone have input for the "best" Google camera port/mod? I'm using
Arnova's 6.2.030 v2.2: Gcam_6.2.030_Advanced_V2.2.190716.1800-Final.apk because it's the newest one I've tried so far that doesn't take green pictures. Looking for other experiences.
I have found that green pictures come out anytime you do not use Google AWB. I tried using Nikita's version of 7.4 and had decent results. Even took pictures using all 3 cams individually which was interesting. Still not great, but definitely better than stock.
Disregard, mine are green as well.

Are you meaning using a custom AWB? If so, which one do you use?
I also tried Nkita's 7.4 Gcam mod, and it blows the stock camera out of the water after a bit of tweaking in the settings. I've attached the config that I use, and you can apply it by following this guide. It's not perfect, but it doesn't take green pictures, and it enables the auxiliary cameras.

Place the config file at GCam/Configs7 folder, open the GCam, double tap the black space between the shutter and the preview picture, you will see the xml file you just placed.

@lzgmc, thanks for the xml file; however, it force closes when trying to use the auxiliary cameras, only the double tree one works.
Oneplus nord n200 with the latest GCam_8.1.101_Wichaya_V1.4 still got the GREEN shots. No luck.
I've been using open camera off fdroid and it seems to work much better than stock for what it's worth.

From that link:

I used the "snap" variant personally, but I see no reason why the "cam" variant wouldn't work either.
As for which one is the "best" camera option for the N200, I don't know. While NGCam's photos are still far better than the photos from the stock camera in my opinion, and it also supports the macro lens, there's a subtle pink tint in the final photos, and it seems to drain the battery quite a bit. Maybe it's the best camera option right now, but that could change in the future if newer and more optimized cameras for this phone come out.

OK, tried the snap variant.
I can't figure out how to apply that config file, but I don't think I have to.
All I did was turn 'Google AWB' on (whatever that is) in the settings, leaving everything else as default, and the colors in my pictures seem spot on.
*edit- figured out the config file thing. I can see the very subtle pink tinge you mentioned (which wasn't there before applying the config, but it didn't let me choose between camera lenses before the config, so...). I see all kinds of color-related things in the config file, but don't actually know what in the config is safe to edit to try fixing it, lol.
Now if this was fine tuning a ReShade setting for a PC game...
We usually need to use the "snap" or "snapcam" package for phones where OnePlus doesn't restrict access to the auxiliary cameras (wide, macro, zoom, etc). It's the second apk on both of download pages for the versions linked above.
GCams with other package names often can only access the main rear / front camera.

I've tried many roms with many camera apps but couldn't find one in which, portrait mode, hdr+ and slow motion(however slow motion isn't important for me at all) are working.
The best app that I found was the stock crdroid camera but neither does it have portrait mode plus it's hdr is very slow.
Can someone please provide me the best app that just works and has the features i mentioned above.

I think that your experience with the gcam mods might be determined by the camera sensor on your phone. I have a Samsung sensor, and most of the mods work reasonably well (sometimes you have to tweak the settings). I have stayed with Arnova8G2 v6. It does FC sometimes, but it mostly good. The settings can be tweaked for improvements over default settings ("Auto"), but not all of them work well. If you choose very high resolution HDR settings, the shutter will be very slow - but the picture will be very good. I don't really use the portrait mode, so I can't comment on that. Before Arnova8G2, I used Cstark27 mods - and they were excellent too. But I think Arnova has the edge.
In any case, you can have a look at this repository of gcam mods.

I don't know of a straightforward way of getting that information. You will need to search the forum for that.
The method that I use is not straightforward. It depends on initd functionality, and this is not generally available in ROMs. Basically, I run dmesg from an initd script, and redirect the output to a file. I then parse the file and look for any of these;
1. "ofilm_s5k3l8" (sensor=Samsung)
2. "ofilm_imx258" (sensor=Sony)
3. "qtech_ov13855" (sensor=Omnivision)
You can of course run dmesg at any time from a root terminal. However, you need to capture the output early enough (i.e., during the bootup process) or the values you are looking for would be long gone.
PS: I don't know much about Kernel Adiutor - but it may be that it can help you to run the command to capture the necessary information, even without initd functionality. Maybe someone else can speak to that.

I'm on arnova v6 now and it's perfect. The only problem is that the front camera is mirroring/reversing the pictures I take which is incredibly annoying. Do you guys know of a system-wide or app limited tweak that can disable this? Or perhaps an alternative to this gcam which has that feature but also.has portrait mode and HDR+ working.

In these apps when you take a picture from the front camera, it is saved as mirrored as compared to the camera preview screen when you're positioning tot take the picture (for e.g a face looking at the left comes as right or vice versa). There is an option in the miui camera settings to disable this and also on most other camera apps. I want to disable this here too.

I would certainly be interested!
We finally got a version of 6.1 with the updated libraries and features (Night Sight, etc) that doesn't kill the front camera!
I've been working on this with DefconG and Cstark for a while now, trying to figure out how to fix the noise profile / black levels in the front cam so we aren't stuck with 5.1 (and its arguably inferior image quality and sharpness), and this seems to be the first major breakthrough!
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog924/
It says for Pie, but don't worry. It will install fine on Oreo. You may need to uninstall other 6.1 ports if you are having trouble installing it (on my device it conflicted with a 6.1 Arnova installation).
Front cam and both rear cams are fully supported with HDR+ Enhanced now. Night Sight is also an option. Some new funky feature too like zoom enhancements and other fun things that aren't entirely documented. Use the attached settings XML for the best V20 experience.
Definitely looks sharper, much more config options to fiddle. But after taking more than 2 photos it crashes, both with hdr, hdr enhanced, hdr off and hexagon dsp disabled.
If going for version 6 this looks like the choice.
Thanks for the good work.
Pardon my ignorance, but how do I apply the xml settings?
EDIT:
I think I got it. Writing steps for others here. Thanks man! You're the hero we need.
1. A quick search led to this: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/settings09/

Double click the any empty black area near shutter button, it will as for the config. But be sure to copy the xml file to your \gcam\configs directory first.
I'm guessing no 7.0 support?

As far as I know, any GCam after 5.1 needs Oreo or higher, and any GCam from 6.2 on needs Pie or higher.
Sadly doesn't work on H990DS Oreo, I have version mismatch maybe because of that.
Have to go back to 5.1
Hello everyone. First off thank you so much for your work and development. I have been playing around with the 6.1 camera and I think I have everything working, but lens blur keeps force closing while processing the image.
I did download the XML file and double tap in the black area next to the shutter button change to the correct config file. But I'm still having the issue with lens blur is there something that I'm missing? Also, is there a way to make it save directly to the SD card? And any way to brighten up lens blur?
Thanks again for the awesome work. It would be really nice to only need one camera!

Haven't tried Lens Blur yet, but regarding directly saving to SD card, that's not a feature since no Google Pixel phone has an SD card slot. You'll have to rely on an automatic process to move the files for you via something like Tasker or a specific app that someone made:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-gcam-tool-automatically-photos-t3752115
In Settings I changed both front and back cameras to be 16:9. However if I press the camera switch button then the settings does not stay. It goes like this:
Main Camera (16:9) -> Front Camera (16:9) -> Wide Camera (4:3) -> Front Camera (16:9) -> Main Camera (4:3)
Is it possible to fix this behavior so that switching to the Wide camera doesn't remove my Main camera settings?
Apologize for my ignorant. Does this app need root? What is the xml file for?

From my experience:
1. No root required
2. Xml file sets the settings/parameters which are optimal, and also somehow save the app from crashing.
Someone else might be better informed though.

There's a couple of ways to toggle the cameras which can be set in the settings menu. One is to long-press the front/back toggle button, the other is to alternate each time you go from rear cam to front cam. The long press seems makes more sense on paper, but in reality it then pauses as it resets the app. Toggling to front cam and then back to rear seems to happen faster so you are ready to take a picture sooner. But then it is confusing because taking a selfie and then back to rear you forget which camera you are on now at first. I wish there was a toggle that worked like in the stock LG app, but the quality of Gcam is so good its worth it.

So share gcam mod that supports on our Device

I found Urnyx05's latest version runs well without issues. As well as Arnova but requires to switch the Mod in order to make the slow motion work.
But switching camera lenses is missing in both versions. Also timelapse does not run of 4k mode in Urnyx05.

I noticed a big difference between google camera and the stock camera in terms of landscape views, google camera does a lot better(especially after turning on Lib patcher settings). But for individual objects it seems the stock camera does better in terms of exposure. I think I will depend on google cam just for landscape photos and raw images.
One thing I also found today, when I record with Slow Motion in google cam.. the video will not work.
I haven't found any that adequately support the phone's cameras.
Waiting in vain for astrophotography support with more than 3sec shutter speed.
This device doesn't even have a full PRO camera mode that can adjust shutter speed.
got it on my stock build A71. Photo's are good, but can't do widescreen. Videos are ok, seams quicker on videos, less time "catching up " with what's on the screen . will test outside later, no AR as well , but stable.
we need a port that can use the fullest of the cameras, ex: 64mp, this way we can take raw pictures and have more control

Yeah I noticed that too, This phone cameras are really good, nothing to complain, just the stock camera app that It's too limited, the phone support camera2api but the stock app doesn't let us tweak our photos in a professional way, there's that "Pro" mode in the app but it's nothing near the real capabilities of Camera2Api with raw photos and so on.
I read in Arnova's article in Google Camera port that there is a module for magisk to enable all the cameras of the phone. Anyone tried it ?
Also I would confirm that there are still issues with the slow motion recorder, the video will be lagging.
I have just checked the last update of Urnyx 7.3.0.018and added the config file of Samsung A71 and it actually works very well! even switching Auxiliary Camera works. But there are two things are still missing:
1-It seems it swithces to the wide camera only (12mp) for both 0.6x and 2x, so 64mp and micro are not added.
2-Slow motion mode still lagging.
I think we should work on making a specific version or configs for A71 which enables the rest of Cameras.
[UPDATE]
Using Arnova Gcam, lastest version. I was able to switch the camera lens between 12mp (wide) and 16mp(main). The other lenses keep crashing the app.
This was done by setting ID Camera 0 and ID Camera 2 in the Mod settings. Maybe by the magisc module it may work, yet my phone is not rooted.

We have a new system update that enables some of the pro mode functions. However, when changing the shutter speed the stock camera always fails...
And some changes when doing an astrophotography shot with the gcam before the update there is less than 3 sec shutter speed. Now i can get 14 sec. But the photo still dark and awful.

By editing the options you can export a config file. For example in Arnova's version, there is a mod option which gives you extra optiions that you set and then export a config file, I don't know much but I think for our case we need deeper changes in the port. We might need to edit the port files.

Yes but that's not enough, I personally aim for 64mp camera and if we are able to take RAW images with that will be a nice thing. We have a good camera in this phone but it is diappointing Samsung did not provide Raw Images option in the new update.

For now I have no plans, it is still risky as long as there is little support for the phone in the forum. But I would love to get deeper in helping to improve a better port of GCam for the phone.
Is anyone elses viewfinder laggy? The preview image?
I'm totally speechless, today i swapped my S20 + for a OP8P, and TBH the camera is better but they where close.
I spent quite a bit of time, and as an avid GCAM user i tried MANY GCAM ports, all where pretty much crap, or not really better than stock, but, BUT! THAN, i found Parrot043 mod. I installed made my usual tweaks, and what i have saw is literally INSANE, this camera mod, literally destroy everything i have ever tried, and believe me i tried hundreds of them in my life.
1. If you have a previous GCAM, open the camera, hold and press on the icon on the homescreen, press app info, clear cache, and data.
2. Uninstall the app, reboot the phone. Than install Parrot 043 link > https://gofile.io/d/BpCWFx - also alternative host - https://easyupload.io/k6t42a
3. Go into the settings of the GCAM, turn on HDR enhanced, into advanced section, into HDR frames, and set 35, enable sabre, just under the HDR enhanced frames option.
4. Restart the camera app, go into darkness, take a photo with your camera app, and than take a photo with the GCAM mod, BE AMAZED.
P.S. Do not touch anything else, maybe turn on H265 for videos, and 4K for the back camera, increase video bitrate to 50mbps + and that's it.
P.P.S. ALWAYS make sure you have HDR enhanced on! it makes taking moving objects harder/blurry, but for low light its EPIC.
And here is camera comparasion of stock, night mode, and GCAM

OnePlus 8 Pro IN2025 10.5.8 xXx rom currently.
Had gcam installed from xXx, force stopped, cleared data, uninstalled with reflashing rom to remove as system app, then rebooted. Installed the other. Tried clearing data, rebooting again, made the one you recommended a system priv app, but it keeps crashing the moment I open it. I can't even open settings, because it crashes on open.
I have tried modifying the permissions, tried a previous version, still crashes on start. At the time, no other gcam folder.

Its the sabre i think, you need to somehow turn it off, sometimes older GCAM ports mix with new and bugs happen, its either that, or its the sabre. In order to fix this, IF IT IS THE SABRE, you will need to wipe cache data from recovery or even FORMAT the phone, look at the photos, the upgrade is ENORMOUS, but it depends of how much you need it, i would suggest for someone with the same version as your model/firmware, test the mod to see if its the sabre or not, i had this issue on my Mi Note 10, all GCAM ports looked the same, no improvements, i tried everything only the format make the settings change post installation.
EDIT, it might be even the rom! i just saw you are on custom, sorry buddy.
Always keen to give GCAM a go (not sure why i have such a soft spot for it lol)...
Anyways, thanks for sharing this. Attached are a few samples of me jumping into a store room with the door slightly opened (it's pretty dim inside).

I can confirm it's related to the xXx rom. Uninstalled completely and the camera installed and worked fine, but when you reinstall the camera breaks.

I'm curious myself. After confirming, I installed other modded camera apk's and they work correctly.
This thread has me very interested.. @xXx - any chance you could glance at this at some point and see if it warrants inclusion in an xXx magisk rom future update? No pressure, just a thought. Some of the picture samples do indeed appear impressive! Thank you!!
Thanks for sharing this, will look deeper into it (presently on Urnyx GCam port).... Just as an info:
This GCam and many more ports are on Celsozavedos excellent Gcam Port hub !

The difference is much more apparent when there is less light, but even here the GCAM is superior. Can you post full res photos please? thanks.

Urnyx is also great and stable, but sadly it lacks exposure in low light, (darker photos) and the noise reduction can kill details. Parrot can see where eyes cannot, very good.
OP camera is better in low light than this, and you can't use any of the other cameras, so until they solve that problem for the OP 8 pro I'll be sticking to the stock camera.
You lose more functionality than you gain in picture quality.

Well on european in2023 op8pro the low light picture quality on this gcam is 10 times better then op stock cam for sure!
And yes you lose ability of other cameras.
But for the moment this gcam is my friend in making low light pictures ?????
Thanks for sharing

Hello. But this is good only for the night photo or is good in every situation? What is sabre option? We dont need to choose an xml file? Thanks and i like this tipe of treadh
mhhh i actually tried different google gcams but until now - and since the last update - the stock cam is the best one for me, just in case with a lot of ( direct sun)light (google gcam often blows the sky just into white) and also in dark environments the stock cam is better than the gcam. But i think, gcams and stock cam could be better with updates over time, the software for the sensor has a much higher optimization potential.

This GCAM is different. Havent tested it alot in daylight, but it should win even in daylight. No the stock camera is not even close to being better or equal to GCAM, you can see in the picture, or test by yourself.

No need for XML.
Sabre is a better HDR merge metod, it should offers better details especially in low light. Should be in every situation, test it, you got nothing to lose.

What do you mean better than this, are you claiming that i did something wrong with the stock pictures?
And this camera mod is mostly for low light/night mode, you don't need to use it solo and not having the option to use other cameras, you can use both, you use GCAM for low light, and other cameras as needed.
Try it with the settings suggested, and you will forget that the main camera exist in low light.

This camera destroys Urnyx in low light, its like 2 gen ahead. I tested it last night, took like 3 photos, and deleted Urnyx instantly, its not even close.

Why Do you hype this camera when a lot of people tell something different? I tried the mod already and as I said, the Stock cam is better (for me) also in lowlight. I tested it in a very dark room. Also for daylight shots Stock is a way better, just in the view of sharphness.
So, your hyped gcam mod isn't the mother of all cam apps...
Update: I tested again in another Environment and again, Stock is a lot better. Not sure what's wrong with your Stock cam. Are you running the latest Version? ??Seems there is anything wrong on your side. I for myself can't share your opinion.
Did someone tried any gcam version for the zenfone 9? The cameras of this phone are suck, over sharpness, selfie? On paper good selfie sensor but the results are poor
Oversharpening effect on Zenfone 9 is very strong. Every Zenfone 9 user should inform Asus that they aren't happy about it on Asus forums:
ZenFone 9
zentalk.asus.com
If nobody reports anything on their official channels then Asus will think people like it
Try out the latest BSG gcam mod:
BSG GCam APKs - Google Camera Port
Modified Google Camera app by BSG.
www.celsoazevedo.com
Working front, rear cameras. Haven't test everything. But so far so good. Wide angle works too. No config applied
The stock camera auto HDR pictures are way to overexposed. This is just an example I took this morning. I prefer the gcam output.
I will post about this in the Asus forum once I have more time.
Cheers

You can try lastest Wichaya's 8.1 v1.6 Gcam:
Wichaya GCam APKs - Google Camera Port
Modified Google Camera app by Wichaya.
www.celsoazevedo.com
The GCam makes photos look way better - how ever I'm not knowledgeable enough about the configs to know how to fix. The 8.1 Wichaya version seems to work the best. Though video modes still feel sluggish in the viewfinder. A lot of delay from moving the phone.
I also can't select the main 773 sensor in the noise reduction section. It's simply not there as an option.
Oh well. It seems to work otherwise. Slow motion and 50MP RAW has been disabled for now from Wichaya.
This guy evidently got GCAM working and notes improvements over native camera app.
Has anyone how things are with android 13? The Gcam is way better, but cannot be used for all purposes, I wish Asus just fixes the heavy post-processing so I can use the native app which is great by the way.
I just joined Android 13 beta program from my Zenfone 9. No ROM yet, but will let you know when they start rolling out.
I made a config for my Wichaya 8.1 and created noise model with some other adjustment to the settings
Enabled 50MP for video and slow mo only (partially working)
Just my 2 cents for wichaya.
The photo is tricky (but ugly) and the purpose was to demonstrate that the Asus process is not on par with the Gcam for color rendering and HDR.
The reds (box, chair and dress) are much more realistic on the Gcam shot. Same for the woody wall.
And look at the sky....

Oh I worked out the problem. It only applies portrait mode to photos of people, not to other objects. I remember this was the case with the original Google Pixel 1 that I had.
Is it the same for you?
It doesn't pick up my dog, which is a bummer.

Sadly, I don't have a pet to check
It works on my front and rear camera in vertical or horizontal orientation. It only works this way in "portrait" app setting (so chosen from between Night Sight/Portrait/Camera/Video/more...).
I've provided you the link to the config file too. It's an .XML file in the previous comment.

Yes I got it thank you very much. I have a Pixel 6 too, and the portrait mode on that (and camera in general) is much better so I may just stick with that for now.
@eVen123 the config you link to is the one for Zenfone 8. Am I correct there is no Zenfone 9 config yet?
Is the gimbal stabilisation then used with Gcam?
