As of last few weeks, I do not have any gmail notifications in notification bar.
I looked around and found many have same issue and some say to go into gmail settings on phone and turn a bunch of notifications for this and that on. So I did. Everything is turned on, no notifications.
Phone DOES receive new emails, as when I go into any of my gmail accounts on the phone, inbox will say "3 new" or whatever the number of new messages is.
But none will show in notification bar.
Suggestions? I just spent 45 minutes digging this out online and fooling with accounts settings on my phone. Every one says notifications turned on, labels and all that new bs turned on, etc. Sync is of course tuned on. Good connection. I mean - EVERYTHING says it should work on the phone.
No notifications. Just had another email pop on PC screen for one of my emails, in Thunderbird - phone is silent.
Thank you.
Any apps or mods that might be blocking notifications? Are your other notifications working properly?
If you're using Priority Inbox, you have to enable notifications for all other tabs besides Inbox. I kinda don't think that's your problem based on your description, but FYI anyway.

Hi Guys,
I've noticed a problem with my Whatsapp the last couple of days, I have single messages to vibrate when coming through, but group messages to not vibrate (I'm in a lot of groups and its problematic when I'm at work )
I've uninstalled/reinstalled, and its swtiched off in app, but no matter what, I still get vibration when a group message comes through, which is a lot.
Has anyone else noticed this? I've looked through the S5 settings but cant seem to find anything to fix it. It's only happened since I updated WA 2 days ago.
Also, I should add, I changed my cache from dalvik to ART, so maybe that could be it?
Cheers.

In groups or single notification... there is an independent configurations; I had ART and Dalvik and no vibration at all
Hi Mate,
I never had any issues at all until the other day, I originally used the in app settings to control vibration, but even if they are both off it wil still vibrate for new messages,
I've gone back to Dalvik as the phone was begining to lag and hang, but still have the issue with whatsapp.
Sorry guys, I didn't realise it was that confusing.
the break it down.
Until the latest update (about 3-4 days ago) I had single messages in WA to vibrate, but group ones not to vibrate. This was controlled in the App itself, via settings -> Notifications.
So I had Vibrate: Default for Message (single) notifications and Group Notifications Vibrate: Off.
BUT it still vibrates for group message, even though its off.
Does that make sense now?

This is happening with me too since the last update and is driving me nuts!
Hello!
I'm having a similar problem, did you manage to find a solution?
I had opened a thread about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/whatsapp-bug-please-help-t2824223
I reported the bug to Whatsapp, they told me it's a feature lol! I asked them if this was indeed a feature then what's the use of the "default" setting under notification->Vibration. No answer.
I upgraded Whatsapp about 5 times to different new versions to no avail. I even uninstalled it and reinstalled it to no avail.
Is there any solution? Can we use tasker to fix this?
Thank you kindly.
Issues Resolved???
Hello!!
I am also in a similar situation.
My phone(HTC M8) Vibrates even after all the Vibrations are turned off.
But this happens only when the phone is in Vibration mode or Silent Mode.
In the Normal mode audio comes but no Vibrations.
Need to stop all Vibrations for Whatsapp Notifications.
Any Suggestions??
Thanks!!

Reporting this bug to whatsapp since april 2014? or early....but they donĀ“t do nothing.
I found a workaround: If you want no vibration put Whatssapp Tone notification: None
I suggest all whatsapp vibrate problem :
Go play store and install app ops and than reboot your phone open app ops and find whatsapp kill permission of vibrate
Wattsup just updated.
Also make sure you have Notification for GROUPS and individual messages turned to OFF in Wattsup Settings !!
1st seleck on vibtare on go back exit from app and now select off may be its work
Im also face this problem in my note3
Same problem here with 2.12.194. Before the update I had individual messages vibrate on and group message vibrate off. Now with every message in a group chat the phone vibrates. I already uninstalled and installed whatsapp, deleted cache, even downgraded to 2.12.193 where I didn't had this problem but now it's present!!! :S:S:S:S

For those people who end up in this thread because they experience this issue: I've found a solution.
Go to: Settings --> Notifications --> Notification Sound --> "Silent" AND Settings --> Notifications --> Vibrate --> "Off"
Do this for single messages, or group messages, or both, whichever you need.
The problem is that if you set a sound (instead of silent) for these messages, but then set your phone to silent/vibrate, it will try to play the sound when you receive a message, but the phone, not Whatsapp, will "convert" it to vibrate.
I can confirm it on WA 2.12.252, even if Notification sound and Vibrate are set to Off :/

even though this is an ola thread I made an account just to thank you for this post, been driving me nuts for days!!
Hello,
Recently purchased an LG V10 with 5.1.1 stock, AT&T, and I've done absolutely no modding.
Scenario 1: sending hangouts data messages over LTE (for example; they are quick and easy to test with) work OK from my end. On receiving phone on different carrier, message arrives in about 5sec. Slower than I'm used to on every other phone I've used but not a big deal. SMS are sent faster and arrive in the normal amount of time which is still faster than hangouts.
Scenario 2: My phone is asleep\screen off and hangout messages are sent from the other phone to mine over LTE. My phone does nothing for as long as I let it stay asleep. But Incoming phone calls to my cell number notifies me instantly and
SMS sent to my phone notifies me instantly.
Scenario 1 and 2 are the same when using Wi-Fi, and with other apps that can trigger notifications when the screen is off. Those notifications only appear after I've unlocked the phone, and some appear only after I've opened the app. The notifications will have correct timestamps but the sounds and visuals only happen once I've picked up the phone and started using it; they all flood in at once.
I've made sure that my settings for allowing notifications (priority it's called on the LG ROM) is set to allow everything.
I've done a lot of searching online and people with various phones (Galaxy S6's most recently) appear to have this issue and it also appears to have a history as far back as Android 4.1. They say the fix is an app that changes the checking times from the stock Android 28minutes or something, down to like 5 minutes. I have tried one that doesn't require root and it has not changed any behaviour that I can measure.
My question is, is this a phone problem? Like a bad OS install from the factory (did i just get a bad unit?) or an APN setting issue (haven't messed with it from factory settings) or is it an Android problem that needs a bug submitted since I see it happening on Samsung phones too?
I've had many other phones, mostly Samsung and even a Note 4 with Android 5.1.1 but hangouts and emails and every other notification was practically instantaneous whether on Wi-Fi or cell network.
Thoughts?
On my phone, I have it set to Priority Only Allows with Messages from anyone plus Calls from anyone.
For some odd reason, my phone will turn on DND and not allow anything to pass for about an hour. This happens several times a day since I can see the DND symbol there knowing that DND has been blocked even though the Priority has allow all messages and calls.
It appears to be activated by my watch through both DND and gestures and over rides what my phone has established. Every so often I see that my phone is in DND and all calls will go to voice mail.
I turned off gestures, set DND to OFF, but is there a way to have this be off and have it stop interfering with my phone calls?
I had the same problem and turned off gestures. I also reported it to Google. Maybe if enough people report similar issues they will make a change.
Android Wear 2.0 was supposed to be out by now, but it was delayed until early next year. Maybe they will make some changes, such as allow customizing gestures.
The problem presents itself as there are some notification providers (e.g. call services) that don't allow the user to disable specific notifications (in this case WiFi Calling).
Since receiving the official Android 11 on my Pixel 4 XL yesterday, there is a permanent notification telling me emergency calls are not working over WiFi Calling (thanks I know, get out of my sight).
Usually, notification providers can be turned off entirely or selected groups of notifications of a service can be turned off. Well, seems like you can't turn this one (or call services at all) off.
Is there anything one can do about this? I don't want to have this notification be there 24/7.
I am very open to hacky solutions, whatever it takes to get rid of unwanted permanent notifications. The optimal solution would be something that allows me to, in general, modify previously immutable notification settings.
