Any known/recent issues with battery drain? - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi, my Mate 20 Pro is getting rubbish battery life from 2 or 3 weeks ago. Seems way worst since last week. It will go from 100% to near 15% in half a day.
I didn't notice any system update and I haven't done any change to it. Battery app shows the apps I'll be using most that day but I don't think they match such a dramatic change from what it used to be just a month or so ago. I don't game and most "intensely used" apps are the Opera browser and Instagram (that will be used for 30 minutes).
I've reset the phone and done a factory reset also. The behaviour persists unchanged.

Instagram runs like google palay services iwhile in the background so freeze(all social media apps except whatsapp) it when not using it, if not that its time to get a battery replacement.
disable bloatware apps you never use and check your running services(search *running* in settings, its usually in the developer options area"

Q: ICS and Google Maps

Got a question. I have had the most recent leak (3.14.605.10) for a couple of weeks now and I have tried several recent ROMs. One thing I have noticed is that my battery life has taken a dive recently. When I checked the battery stats this morning, I had gone down to 78% in 2 hours. I checked the apps open and display had only been used for 3 minutes. The main culprit is Google Maps. Apparently it is running in the background, even though it doesn't show in task manager. This had just happened within the last few days. When I first loaded the leak, and first started trying new ROMs out, I did not have this problem and had great battery life.
Is there any reason for this? I did a reboot of the phone and it seems to start up by itself. I force stopped it and I'm waiting to see if that improves battery life. I have seen other people mention that this was an issue, but nothing more than that. Does any know more about this? Is there a fix to keep Maps closed until I need to use it?

I had a similar issue for a little while, the main way I was able to shut it down is by turning off the location settings. Facebook and a couple of apps while updating use the GPS on the phone (I have no idea why) but that might give you the results you are looking for.
Try disabling the Verizon Location Services under Settings, Location. I believe that's what is firing up the particular Maps process eating up the battery.
I just saw the same thing on mine today, battery was down to 33% after 5 1/2 hours, Maps used 23% of it.
I disabled that setting, rebooted by phone and have not seen Maps fire back up after a few hours.
Use the app Autostarts from the market. Best paid app ever. It allows you to prevent apps from starting on their own. You wouldn't believe how many different events can trigger the Maps app to start.

Google Services Battery Drain (Xperia Mini Pro)

Hello all.
About a week ago I finally updated my Xperia Mini Pro to 4.0.4. I'm really liking how sleek everything looks etc. but battery life has been reduced dramatically. According to the battery usage stats, the main culprit seems to be Google Services, keeping my phone awake for 10+ hours.
At first it was using around 15-18%, then over the course of two days or so it reached a whopping 55%, more than the screen. Since then it has stabilized at around 40%.
I looked all over for a solution but nothing has worked so far.
I uninstalled Google Play Services, I have force stopped + disabled + cleared the data for Bookmark Sync, Calendar Sync, Account Manager, Framework services etc.
I never use Maps/Latitude and Location is always off, along with any and all Sync options I could fine. I also don't have Google Now.
I've literally tried everything I could think of/find online.
Help! :crying:

battery drain was long time problem in gservices. now i dont have it so far. i would advice u to get the latest playservices & maybe also playstore from a trusted source, try to install playstor & same with gservices if they dont install delete old one in system/app or data/app and push the new one there / set permissions...
also deactivate playstore notifications for apss updates

Battery drain driving me crazy

I've had the phone since the beginning of December. Right since then, I have had battery drain no matter what. In the first days I experienced it even overnight, I am pretty sure with airplane mode activated....
Later on, I wiped the cache from the recovery mode, didn't fix it. I used that 'GService fix' kind of magical app that everybody said it fixed their problems...it didn't fix mine. I performed a hard reset and I did not restore the google account apps, instead I manually downloaded only the apps that I really needed.
There is no apparent pattern on when the battery drain starts: I would find my phone hot and very rapidly discharging (if not already discharged), battery temp hot and cpu temp hot. I disabled all google now functions, I disabled GPS, at first I disabled only some google functions (kept only google keep, calendar and contacts on automatic sync)....but then a couple days ago I disabled the whole automatic sync. Battery still drained without using the phone.
I had read that one reason why google service would take so much battery would be having multiple accounts, or having some problems related with google play games and its sync. I do have games installed on my phone, and they require google play games to work, so that one is installed on the device but I also read that 'people details' under google account settings is relevant to the google play games sync. And in any case as I already said, the whole automatic sync has been disabled in the past 2 days, yet today the phone drained the battery while in my pocket.
I cannot understand what is going on. I am using GSAM to try to monitor things, but till now I have only been able to understand when was the battery drain starting and when was it stopping. I never found the reason. If I choose 'since screen off' on GSAM, I can see that it is again google play services taking most of the battery.
I can see with those softwares (3c toolbox, GSAM) some things, many of them I don't understand and some of them I don't even know how to set. It's pretty useless to know that suddenly my cpu goes high in clock and keeps 90/100% load if I don't know why. There is no rogue app, otherwise it would show on top, right? I can provide these two screenshots:
http://i.imgur.com/wPgGlu7.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/9hbVG0I.jpg
First screenshot: I had the phone on my desk since 2 days or so. Wifi on, no gps, no sync. I went out around 12:00 and that seems to be exactly the time when the battery drain started. If I choose in GSAM 'since screen off', google services is on top of the list. Unfortunately this cannot be very much relate with mobile data or so, because I have experienced battery drain even with airplane mode or at home with wifi enabled. Second screenshot: I don't know what to make of those packages......
I know that other people with the Axon 7 had the same problem, I googled a lot, didn't solve anything.....and I also know that anyway on any phone this can happen. I had very randomly the same problem on the Nexus 5 but never gave it too much attention because it wasn't too bothering, it was happening every once in a while, but with this Axon 7 I am touching it every 10 minutes to see if it's burning hot or not, constantly afraid to take it out of the pocket and find it with 10% left of battery.....

Assuming you're rooted, install betterybatterystats (search for it on xda). Use the phone as you normally would. After 6-12 hours, look at the results. It should give you an idea of what's keeping the phone awake.
Here the same problem. Irregular at intervals of 1-2 days. New installation of Google Play services no change. Restart helps only a short time.
The problem:
Cpu %
34 com.google.android.gms.persistent
04 com.google.android.gms
01 com.google.android.gapps
A2017G Build B09

yes! same thing with me. Google Backup Transport process fires up and eats battery for no reason. Doesn't matter if backup is enabled or disabled, I also disabled appdata sync. I posted two or 3 times in this community group as well:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1421198214846418/permalink/1431610953805144/
What rom are you using?
stock, didn't change anything and to be honest should not need to (and not even want to).
My plan: try to find a solution. Good that at least I nailed it to the process (google backup transport - gms.persistent etc etc) and can research from there. I already found tons of people who had the same problems with tons of different devices and even android version (just google com.google.android.gms.persistent battery drain and you'll find the forums full of threads....of course everybody fixed it in the most different ways, none of which worked for me till now).
2nd plan: wait for the nougat update at the end of the month and see what happens
3rd plan: change device (warranty).
I am aware it is not a hardware problem, it must be some loop in the sync (but it happens even with sync off) or a bug in google services.
Hmmm, could you say you "just can't sleep" over it?
Sorry folks, friday post
Batter Battery Stats is usually a very good way to check for rogue apps, tho.

caused by what? By the way This is my update screen, why is it showing B04 and still saying that it is up to date? I have auto updates and I also checked manually but it says it is up to date.

5 days?? How much do you actually use the phone??
I don't know what was the cause. It was either a loop fail backup of google photos, or the update from B04 to B08 fixed it. No more drain, battery easily lasts 2 days without heavy use of the phone.

 5 days without reboot. 2 days with one load. 8 hours display time at 24 usage.
All the US stock firmwares have the battery drain. It's usually google backup transport or google persistent gms. A reboot will fix it usually, but it will occur again later... Battery life is fine other than those 2. Let's hope lineage will be ok.

100% CPU load, battery drain with no app minimized/running in the background

I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 S625 global variant (4/64GB).
Like a day or so ago, I noticed a quick battery drain (from 100 to 24% after a whole night idle and 2 - 3 hours of heavy use the next day) and from there it was dropping a percent every 2nd-3rd minute. It never happened before as its a 4000mAh battery and usually lasts around 2 days on normal use. I'm new to the smartphone world and I was reading online about the usual causes of battery drain including background apps consuming it and overcharging issue damaging the battery. I got worried as last night it was indeed left plugged in for like 2 - 3 hours maybe after a full charge. So either the battery is damaged due to overcharging, or its some software issue. Now what I noticed is the CPU usage is maxed with no app running in the background. I don't know if CPU-Z's usage info is accurate, but it's 100% when battery is like 15 or lower and 40-50% when battery is 20 or above. Maybe there's some background process or maybe its normal, I don't know. I'm pretty clueless at this point.
Really appreciate if anyone helped me on this one. Thanks.
Battery will not overcharge, you dont have to worry about that.
Try to factory reset and use the phone without installing any apps, and see if the issue is gone, so you will know 1 of the apps is causing it.
You can also try to use apps like BetterBatteryStats which shows you which app used how much battery/cpu etc. You can also find which app is wakelocking phone.

Thanks. I was also thinking of factory resetting it. What I've noticed is that on low battery, 4 of the cores of SD 625 are switched off. Maybe that's why the load is on other 4 and it's showing 100%. I really have no idea. It would be helpful if anyone suggests good battery usage apps and any app that shows realtime CPU usage of different apps/services in phone. I've tried some but they aren't really helpful. Will try BetterBatteryStats.
I had the same Problem too
I had the same problem a few months back, I reset the phone that day but then the problem came up today again. This time I did some testing and now I think the problem is with CPU-Z itself.
You see when the phone heats up the first time (for whatever reason) the MIUI OS automatically resets all APP settings. So CPU-Z's settings get reset and so it starts reading ALL the sensors again. Which uses a lot of battery and increases CPU load. So whenever you open CPU-Z the battery starts draining again but this time because of CPU-Z too.
And I'm pretty sure some other reasons would be there too for the Battery Drain but CPU-Z sensors reading are quite heavy.
Edit: A quick way to fix it would be to set it to "Restrict Background Activity" mode in MIUI App Battery Saver.
I had the same problem too. I've already uninstall many app, but this problem still occure. I still have no idea to this one.
Anyone can help?
Try this:
1. Settings > installed apps > Duo (or Google Duo)
2. Remove all updates to Google Duo
3. Go to PlayStore > Google Duo > Click the 3 dots (top right) > unclick "Enable auto-update"
My note 4 is cool again and the batteries lasts again.

Don't give me credit please. I read it on an other post here, from a guy that read it, well, on an other post.
But the important thing is that it worked for me, and seems for you too. I keep a close eye on my Note 4 now and so far all is cool (literally).
Thanks for sharing...

Uninstalling the Google Duo update worked for me
Uninstalling the Google Duo update did not fix the issue for me... still draining fast.
I had the same problem, it started probably a few weeks ago, pero it became more noticeable a couple days ago.
It seem it is solving the heating and draining issue for the moment
thanks, i'll keep you posted

Weird battery drain - Carrier Services

For some time now the battery life on my 5 II has been getting worse and worse. I reset the phone after my upgrade to Android 11 and after a couple of days the battery life was amazing.
Then more recently it’s been getting really bad, going from 60% remaining after 18hours to 30% remaining for the same period. Strange, because I hadn’t installed any new apps or changed any settings, although I do keep the apps in the play store up to date. I noticed that almost every time I went into the play store there was an update for Carrier Services.
I checked my battery usage one day and Carrier Services was the number one user of the battery, over 25% per day. This seems wrong and broken. I’m not saying it’s wrong and broken for everybody, but maybe there’s an issue between Carrier Services and Vodafone UK. Something not connecting or is in error. Either way, I’m not happy with any app that is using a third of my battery a day and not knowing what it is or does.
So I uninstalled it.
You'll need and ADB package if you don't already have one
adb shell
pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.google.ims

I’m on my first day of no carrier services and I’ve used 2% battery in 8 hours, instead of what would have been about 15–20. No ill effects, my texts work fine.
I’m not suggesting everybody do this, investigate any heavy battery drain on your phone and try this to see if it fixes it. You can always put it back by installing Carrier Services from the play store.
I had a transient Carrier Services version that did something similar, maybe 3 weeks ago, but not as aggressive as in your report. With it's latest updates via Play Store all went normal in terms of battery drain. Vodafone PT and A11 58.1.A.5.222 .
I don't understand why it's still rolled out as a default app in each Android build. It doesn't do anything. Originally it was an attempt by Google to turn SMS texting into WhatsApp. But it failed when no service providers picked it up and used it. Vodafone clearly had issues with it and removing it has done nothing but improve my battery.
What does the app actually do? For me it uses a total of 0%. I dont use my phone very often besides checking messages and maybe some music and the biggest battery drains are Screen: 23% Mobile network standby: 7% Phone idle: 6%
I don't think everybody suffers from the probem, it depends if the service works with your provider or not.

Yes, if you know the exact package name.
I uninstalled Carrier Services by uninstalling com.google.android.ims.... not com.android.google.ims, just saying...
