Now we have a full-featured 2.8 inch Android 11 smartphone in the format of a classic push-button phone released, having a touchscreen, GPS, BT5.0, IR remote control, dual-band Wi-Fi, two cameras, and all this with MTK A22 chipset. Obviously, QIN F21 Pro is the best in its class.
Unfortunately, QIN F21 Pro is positioned by the manufacturer as a phone for students, hence they closed (and keep closing in the new versions of the firmware!) loopholes and ways to install own third-party software, so there is no standard ability to install any apk locally or through adb, and in the native Chinese market there are only educational programs for China.
The only way to install your own software is the APK renaming and its substitution via PC at the moment when it is being downloaded by the official App Market.
So, guys, any ideas of how to make this phone unchained? It has big potential indeed, so having Google Services would be great, but the bootloader is locked, the FW is signed, MTK flashing tool refuses to flash unsigned paritions.

You can upload the firmware, if you do not have a sucker with uni android tool software

I wish i had full firmware dump available. Unfortunately, just the OTA update.zip

Can you upload the system folder?
You can read the firmware from the device with uni android tool!

I wonder, I've read that this device is rootable (there seems to be some guides on chinese forums about this) I just couldn't find any info regarding if it has a unlocked bootloader? Would LineageOS be possible on this? Global version is coming later this year, according to this video.

Ive ordered 2 cracked Chinese units with the mtk6761 with unlocked bootloader + root + playstore.
The rumored Global version will be using the Unisoc T310 soc with its bootloader cannot be unlocked and very secured based on 2 years old phones running it

Unlocking unisoc bootloader was always a problem because you Need the rsa4096 private key, and generate a unique signature.bin for each device by its own token.

when it comes ill try to backup the firmware making a scatterfile via box so it could be flash using mtk flashtool. maybe you could try that. theres also lots of turtorials how to backup MTK firmware and create a scatterfile with that if the device can boot to preloader mode
cool! does contacts syncs properly? does it has a custom TWRP already? can it boot recovery via adb or other root advanced reboot app?

Do you have full firmware? Can you enter factory flash mode? There are many tools on the internet how to bypass mtk soc securities for dumping and flashing full firmware. Its funny Chinese not sharing the proceedure how to do it when it will help a lot to a Chinese company to sell their phones. I talked to the seller, and he/she said the technician wont teach them how to globalize the phone. They want to send them EVERY UNIT asking money just to remove the phone's Google restrictions. What a greedy way of thinking. Xda should bann those kind of people here .

You need to learn to respect peoples wishes , no one ows you nothing , for start.
Because of the colture of over sharing , you got used that everyone will do the job for you.
do you agree that i can choose either to share or not , something i worked a big amount of time on? good.
now for the process , first unlock BL (there is a free solution mtkClient on github), then disable vb meta's signatures ( google that as well ), after that , you need to edit the super.img manualy ( search for super.img's tools , im sure youll find a few ) for removing the restrictions , because of android 11 copy.past restrictions within the device.

NOT A DUMB PHONE ANYMORE!
The portability, stealth ability, and simplicity of a dumbphone + all the apps of a smartphone with 4/64 max variants. THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!
It came with bootloader unlocked, with magisk and with playstore but need to tweak a bit to fix the crappy T9 input and store certification which is not a big deal.
get it here, I vouched this store have it. BUY HERE

yes you are right but the foundation of knowledge how you learn to do that stuffs might be a collective contribution from the open free community just like this site. Did you write the program to unlocked it? Did you spent countless hours coding and debugging for the soulution? but yeah you have your own reasons and i will always respect and understand that. We all have our differences on opinions, values, ways, and traditions on how to do stuffs.
People buy the phone and what if the phone suddenlly crashed? the seller/company might not release aftermarket technical support for the phone leaving owners in the dark and potentially waste their money without a means to restoring it back to a working state.
thank you very much for the process.

How to root and/or replace the OS on an Oppo R9 Plus

I don't have a lot of experience working with Android devices. A new coworker of mine has an Oppo R9 Plus that was purchasing in China. It currently only has access to a Chinese-language app store (even though the phone is in English mode).
If possible, I am looking to help her root the phone, and replace the OS with a standard version of the Android operating system (a newer version would be great, but really the version doesn't much matter). The goal here is to be rid of China-specific junk and limitations, and to have access to the standard Google Play store.
Unfortunately, searches here and on the web have not been super helpful, providing me a range of tools and possibilities (many locked behind very scammy looking offers before download). Is what I want to do possible? Any direction for where I should be looking?
Do you find a solution? I got the same problem with my Oppo R9.. The important things are still in Chinese and no method i found in the internet to root the Phone works..
Hi Guys , I had the same issue and i tried to flash Oppo r9 plus with the international ROM from singapore website of oppo . But now i m stuck on Oppo logo when i boot the phone . My phone is R9 Plusm A. Any help will be appreciated .
Regards
oppo r9 plus dual sim 4g 128gb Root, install Cm13
HI all, you have to down grade the firmware to early version to able to root. use any one click root tool, and then download oppo tools 2.apk, use the oppo tool to unlock bootloader, if you get this far, try to search twrp.img file on internet to overwrite the recovery, boot into TWRP recovery install any up to date firmware, or CM13 TO CM14.
CM14 got bug, not able to get 4g signal on both sim
Good luck

Hi, R9 plusA with root and unlock bootloader Can i flash international firmware (x9709)?
Im not sure, not try
From what I can tell, the modem firmware on the international and Chinese international variants are different. To get LineageOS 13 working on mine I had to replace NON-HLOS.bin in the firmware packages from Wuxianlin with one from ColorOS.
After a few small tweaks to the device tree LineageOS 13 seems to be working fine on the X9079

Hey there.....may I ask the steps you took to achieve this? From stock all the way to the Lineage OS that you reached. I've tried tons of stuff but it doesnt seem to work. Could you guide me? or maybe email me? Thanks in advance Kudos for showing evidence that its still possible to Custom OS that R9 Plus.(Color OS honestly is pathetic.....I could've give it a chance if developer options are permanent but Nooooooo.)

All information is in the linked thread to the Oppo Forums. And most of the Kudos goes to Wuxianlin I've been using Lineage as my daily driver - it's almost perfect - but because of Oppo's GPL violation in not releasing the source code for the kernel, some little bugs may never be able to be fixed.
The firmware files won't download.

Hello. Thanks for your tutorial and file Repo. I am doing work for a client who wants the stock firmware flashed on his device again. From what i gather it is a Chinese version. It has a Chinese and English menu. Did you flash to the international from a Chinese model or another? Phone is still new to me so I've no idea if there was more than just the 2. I read your post on Oppo http://community.oppo.com/en/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=51837&extra= and understand the instructions and have been debating flashing however since this is what i believe to be a Chinese version I don't wan't to risk bricking it. Was yours a Chinese model and was the only thing needed besides root and twrp a simple swap of the NON-HLOS.bin in the firmware packages from Wuxianlin with one from ColorOS? I noticed you said you made a few tweaks too.
Has this project progressed much?
If i don't take the above route could you possibly guide me to a working flash file for 5.1.1 and 6.0 ColorOS Chinese/English model of the R9 Plusm A?
This is what i've found and tried so far flashing from SD-CARD with no luck however. - X9079EX_11_OTA_013_all_201706081345_local.zip (a few others too but they are updates and i need to format and flash all.)
Sorry for 10000 questions. I'm not left with a whole lot of information and options on this phone.

Hi All,
I have a Chinese purchased Oppo A57 running ColorOS version 3.0 and Android 6.0.1. As other have mentioned a lot of the core apps and settings are still in Chinese despite the fact that all the language settings have been turned to English. Is there "flashing for dummies" method of getting an English version of the OS installed on this thing that has limited (or no) chance of me bricking the phone. I have read through the thread and to be frank a lot of the instruction seem to be above my pay grade. If anyone has some suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. The alternative is to learn Chinese which will be tough.

And what and how you do it?
TO ALL - it's been more than a year since this thread was opened, and still not a single normal answer. Guys with X9097X phone - stop answering here - you have intenarional version of smartphone so it is easy for you to upgrade firmware, change firmware or even flash custom.
The main problem is OPPO R9 Plusm A - full chinese phone. I was so stupid to changed my iphone 6 plus 64gb to this POS. I was really hoping that soon someone will find way how to change chinese ROM to international one, but still it is impossible. I tell you more - OPPO comunity forum already deleted all threads about R9 Plusm A.
Half an year ago on oppo community forum was one man who managed to make manual how to delete/stop all chinese junk on this phone, but thanks to administration of forum it was deleted and now, when i accidentaly done factory reset i can't find this article and remove chinese junk...
I don't ask you for manual of flashing international ROM, but maybe someone have screenshots or cached version of that deleting chinese junk manual? I will be very appretiating for this.
PS i'm sorry for any mistaces in my sentences, it is not my native language and i'm from Ukraine) Please help me, because i've tired fighting with this phone and i can't even sell it, because nobody understand the power and potential of this phone while it is full of chinese apps and services.

Moto Z Droid (Verizons XT1650-01/02) root. Bounty?

Since of my various posts here I receive A LOT of PM from users having a Verizon Moto Z interested in root.
As of today, we don't have any root solution for them because of locked bootloader.
BUT I've owned a LG G2 for some years, it has never had its bootloader unlocked BUT it had TWO different solutions (Loki & Bump) not only to have root but to install A LOT of different ROMs too...
It's harder today (since of all the security "holes" closed by Google with new Android versions...) but FOR SURE not impossible...
So, what do you think about setting up a "bounty" (as already done on XDA for other phones...) for a developer able to root/twrp them?
It could be done in this thread eventually...
(Written with Go Keyboard on my happily rooted & xposed XT1650-03... :laugh
I posted a thread in regarding to a flash sale by one of the retail giant store in the US, Best buy having it sold for only $120! If a lot of people picked one up, perhaps we can all pitch in and maybe donate a device to a developer to work on since this device is costly in retail price and not really a favorite among buyers.

Are you experienced in finding exploits to root these kind of phones? I wished we had a true ex developer of motorola or Verizon to help us start. I had the LeEco le max 2 and gave that up for this due to lack of software development, comes to find out the Moto Z is pretty much same boat. I guess it is too new.
the same happened to moto x force
until today even big bounty did not make it
so moto x force thread is almost dead
if american version stay unlocked not many developers are
gonna be interested and we might be "slightly doomed"

Unfortunately no, I like to think I'm a renaissance man with phones, but I've always jumped in post root. Not being a Samsung has me feeling less sure about messing around too much as well, not familiar with verizon bootloader work either as I'm a recent switch from Sprint/Tmo. Loving the device so far, yesterday was first full day of use. Root would be amazing, so I'll at least dig around. Would love to make a custom rom someday too but won't hold my breath

I continue to be of the idea that the way should be like the one used with "bump" and LG G2...
Since there is nougat now for the unlocked moto z, is it possible to use that firmware for the verizon device even with a locked bootloader? A developer of a dif device told me that snapdragon devices have what's called emergency download mode, and you can put a firmware from a different unlocked device onto it. Also he mentioned you can try to use a flash tool from xiaomi called mi flash tool. I am not brave enough to try this but if someone have knowledge of what they are doing, and if this work please tell us.
We may be helped by a Dirty Cow, but like the mentioned flash tool it doesnt help unlocking our BL

I was also able to do this in the settings menu of my z-force (xt1650-02) can any one explain what this option means if its not actually unlocking the BL then one could only assume that it enables unlocking but doesn't ACTUALLY ünlock.
The OEM unlock option in the developer options menu means that it will allow unlocking, granted you have the unlock code from Motorola and you put the code in using the fastboot command. The problem is, we don't have the code, so that option doesn't actually do anything whatsoever.
Hope someone could find a way to unlock the BL of this variant.
Don't we all hope someone could unlock the bootloader? I've almost given up hope. But I hope someone finds a way to bypass Verizon's locked bootloader on this phone. Id actually PAY to get the BL unlocked if I could. I heard Verizon's released BL codes for a few Moto phones in the past, so here's to hoping...

I got lucky last time with their Moto x 2014 version. They weren't gonna release marshmallow on it so instead they said screw it and let people unlock the boot loaders so we could update it ourselves (my Moto x is currently on 7.1.2 and more updated than this phone). It was a great day when I heard about that. So pretty much the only way Verizon would consider it is when the device is out of date and not worth them updating which will probably be after 8.0 at this point (if they even actually release that) so I give it another year if they do it. Around the time android P will be released is my guess.
In case anyone is unaware and comes looking for this nowadays, here is a link to the Motorola BL Unlock code page: https://support.motorola.com/us/en/solution/MS87215.
After 9.0 came out (first unsupported on 1650s) this model was added.

Sadly, as of today my Moto XT 1650-02 remains locked. Upon entering bootloader unlock data Motorola page says: Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking.
sorry I double posted this
Sadly, as of today my XT 1650-02 remains bootloader locked. Motorola page says: "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking" and so, no blue button to get the bootloader unlock code appears. How comes the 1650s were added and mine is not unlockable? Where did you get that info from? Cheers!

Anyone find a work around for this yet?

It's just too soon or this device isn't getting attention from devs?

I've owned various Android devices since my first Cupcake phone. Every time I get a new device, one of the first things I do is to come here to see how the development is going. I've never got a new phone that had the forums soo empty. I don't know if it's just too soon or if this particular phone will never become a model loved by our friends that use to give us the best custom experience in this forums. What do you think?
I have the same opinion.
We're on the same boat.

Same opinion, even from the official developers, this device is stuck on MIUI 10.2 stable both china and global since it came out, MIUI 10.4 stable its already out for some devices like the Mi 6 and we're on MIUI 10.5 over the beta...
Huh, even today we had another update on the PE rom?

That ROM is really promising, but taking my experience with another devices, at this time we'd be here with plenty of ROMs, Kernels and mods. I think the device will never be a good phone for customization just because, for some reason, it couldn't be attractive enough for the developers. Maybe it's this boring waiting time to unlock the bootloader... I don't know...

My thoughts exactly. Checking the Forums what I should flash, during the unlock waiting time (also an unusually thing), I got some doubt If I should even bother with this device.
But after 2 weeks of using it with Revolution OS I am pretty happy with the experience. Even though this heavy MIUI menu customizations need some time to sink in.
I hope they will keep up the support and that xiaomi gets in the game finally and releases some fixes.
I have got the impression many snapdragon 855 devices are struggling with custom rom and dev support. I hope Android Q gets native in-display fingerprint support which could help with many custom rom problems on this newer devices.
It doesn't have OnePlus printed on the phone... otherwise we'd have 20 ROMs 15 Kennels and an official twrp.
Seems Devs are moving away from XDA and posting elsewhere..

Well, if you are looking for a custom ROM, there are are few such as PE.
BUT: I personally have used custom ROMs on every device I have owned, EXCEPT for my Mi9!
REASON: Custom ROMs will break useful functions of the device such as the AI-button and Fingerprint.
I love the MIUI ROM the way it is, it has many functions that are missing in vanilla Android.
For those who say, it is too complicated: You are either too lazy or don't want to learn new stuff - or both.
ROOT:
And I absolutely refuse to use a device that I can't root in order to De-Bloat and Firewall it, etc...
So here my instructions for successfully root. Please DON'T ask about other ROMs or other ways to root!
I have failed with many other intructions and I found what works perfectly for me, as it should for you as well.
HOW TO ROOT MI9 SUCCESSFULLY
ATTENTION:
If your device comes new out of the box, the bootloader needs to be unlocked.

Use this tool: https://en.miui.com/unlock/download_en.html

You do need to connect your Mi9 to your MI account and you need to wait for the Flash Tool to work after the waiting period.

But you must first initiate the wait count by using the flash tool.
If flashing bricked device with Mi-FlashTool, the Bootloader becomes locked again and needs to be unlocked.

If your the waiting period is over, this goes instantly.
Install the CORRECT TWRP via “fastboot flash recovery twrp-new.img” then install the latest Stable GLOBAL ROM from here:
http://en.miui.com/download-361.html
Without installing anything else, set-up the system!

Do NOT USE the option to restore your apps (since another wipe is necessary after rooting).

There is also no need to login to Play-Store or MI-Sync.

I don’t use Mi-Sync nor any other MI-Apps at all!!!
Enable Developer Options, then USB-Debugging and Unknown-Sources.
Check unlock status of MI Account in Dev-Options, add account.
Without installing anything else, set-up the system, YES – AGAIN since BL was locked.
Install Mi9 specific TWRP 3.2.3 from Mauronofrio from here.
[RECOVERY][3.3.1-35][cepheus]Unofficial TWRP for Xiaomi Mi 9 (Stable) or newer:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/Mi-9/development/recovery-unofficial-twrp-xiaomi-mi-9-t3905825
After flashing TWRP, press volume up and power together and hold both until the phone reboots, let go of power after it vibrates but keep holding Vol up until it boots again to TWRP. That way it'll stick.
Install latest MAGISK from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Update Magisk in Magisk Manager if necessary and Configure in Settings SU to always allow if you don’t like to have the danger of missing a SU-Request.

You might keep the notifications on for a while to see that it works.
Install Busybox and verify that it stays installed, if not change settings.

The Busybox from Jared Rummler JRummy Apps should stick if installed into /system/xbin/ or try another location.

I had trouble having the version from Stephen (Stericson) stick.
To check if rooting was successfully, I suggest Advanced Root Checker:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anu.developers3k.rootchecker&hl=de
If you want to block Ads, install ADAWAY manually since it is not in the Store.
AND PLAESE REMEMBER:
I will be glad to help with my method!
DO NOT ASK ABOUT OTHER METHODS!
Why: I spent much time to make this work while other methods terribly failed.
Thanks
Robert

But.. we have PE, CrDroid, Viper, Lineage already lol
Once we get build vendor I'm sure even more build bots will come, I wonder where you see the problems related to this device.
Just wait lol. There arn't many devices (if any) with snapdragon 855 and bug free custom ROMs yet.

Exactly this. Being on the technology's bleeding edge means not many users will have it already. To be honest, I'm more than happy with what we currently have, a fully working stable TWRP, Miui is actually quite good, and I had a lot of fear it wouldn't be, as this is my first Xiaomi device, Floko, PixelExperience, LineageOS, crdroid, viperOS and all this for a very recent SoC used in few devices.
Honestly, I'm not concerned at all.
Custom kernels? Who needs them when you have LTK on magisk.

Yeah, you're right, I just hope this device gets more attention from the kernel devs. There's where the real improvements can be done I guess.
And EVEN IF we end up not getting much more out of the device from devs, I personally think that you don't necessarily need other custom roms anymore, because we already have so many tweaking possibilites.
With MIUI based custom roms (like ROS i'm currently on, or Xiaomi.eu) you get your phone debloated + a few tweaks already out of the box.
After switching to ROS, it felt better but still missed some little tweaks you often get in AOSP based Roms, like switching to next / previous track when screen is off by long pressing volume buttons, or double tap on status bar to sleep. So I found out about CustoMIUIzer, which brings all of that + more.
At last I wanted a little bit more color / theme customization, so I played around with the Themes app. At first I thought the themes will not change much, or that there are only ugly ones out there, but actually if you take your time and scroll through them you'll actually find some gems, and they're free ! (not like on Huawei's Themes App I previously had a bad experience with on my old P10). I recommend the user "peywizart", he has some good ones.
And you can combine them, like take the lockscreen of one theme, the icons of the other, the status bar of another, which can already get you a nice looking UI.
But eventually, I ended up wanting to stay with the stock theme and changing the colors myself. So I found out (yesterday actually, on the CustoMIUIzer thread, thanks user kaizer hanz !) that Swift Installer works quite well with MIUI. I actually bought the app, because I think paying 2 bucks for cross overlay customization (I will be able to use it on any phone / overlay later) is really not bad.
I agree that it would be better if other roms came out that are maybe better optimised, and have all these customizations out of the box, but I think we already have pretty good dev support and possibilities with this phone for now. And until we get a bugfree AOSP experience for our device, I guess I'll stick with my current setup and dream about my good old memories of AOKP on my Nexus 4
So now I'm here, with a snappy, stable phone, with all camera features and fingerprint working, decent battery life, and customized to my likings. Check my signature and screenshots to see what I'm running with links.
Cheers !

No magisk hide, it stops magisk hiding root from gpay or any other apps you've whitelisted.
CTS profile remains intact.
What happened with that developer whom local users donated money for Mi9 and who should deliver stable Lineage?

Huawei Matepad T8

Dear Friends
I have bought a Huawei Mediapad T8 and I am trying to find a custom ROM to flash it. Unfortunately there is nothing on Cyanogenmod site.
If anyone has any reference site where I can find ROM s for this model please share it with me.
Sincerely
Konstantinos
Mediapad T8 has android 10 - so it can be part of Project Treble since it is 8+ - it means, you can flash GSI (generic system image) of many of custom roms and no need for certain full rom.
But, I guess, you will need to unlock bootloader and got permissive kernel and probably need to remove encryption for user data before got bootable custom rom.

Dear Friend
Thank you very much for replying to my thread. I admit that it is the first time that I heard about GSI (Generic System Image). I am looking for a custom rom so I can use the Play Store that is now missing from most Huawei devices. Unlocking bootloader is not so hard , I can get the code from Huawei in 7 months from now. Dealing with the GSI is something that I can not manage to be honest. I will wait for a custom rom. Thanx again.

Actually there are more than 10 Custom ROMs available:

Dear Friend
Thank you for the link. Which one is for Huawei Matepad T8? I can't find anything.

@coa00kt
Take note that any Android OS ( Stock ROM and/or Custom ROM ) you intend to install isn't device's model/brand dependant, but on device's CPU architecture. Almost all Android device's are powered by an ARM CPU.
Dear Friend
I am a noobie. Which ROM do you suggest for Mediatek MT8768 chipset (Octa-core 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.50 GHz Cortex A53)?

@coa00kt
Can't recommend any because I never used a Custom ROM: I have reasons for this.
Dear Friends
The main reason that I am looking a custom ROM is the advantage of using "Play Store". Otherwise Huawei Android 10 is just fine. Please help me find something that will work 100%. Otherwise I will stay with Huawei Android 10.
Thanx again

Dear friend,
In the meanwhile you can use GPStore alternatives like Aurora store or ApkPure or ApkMirror for apps that can not be found on Huawei's AppGallery.
On the other hand, you can install about 8 to 10 apps from Huawei phone/tablet (before US sticky fingers) in the form of backup and restore them to your tablet. Tutorial like this is simmilar for all phones. Also found some backup on GDrive for HiSuite or usb restore.

Hello Friend
I have installed APKPure , it is very usefull. About 80% percent of the applications are running fine. Unfortunately about 20% require the Google Play Services. I will stick to this solution until Huawei provides me the Bootloader Code (After 12 Months) and a custom rom is created .

Hi
You can just flash GApps pico. It installs Play Store and Google Service.
Do you know if Google apps pico require an unlocked bootloader? What is the process? Do I have to install custom recovery?
Hello.
Please, can someone extract the original apk from the notes and post here? I accidentally deleted mine and now I can't find it. Thanks.
Hi there, i managed to install a google account and a working playstore via this youtube tutorial, and google services is working outside of an irritating notification which you can turn off.

The only thing is i don't know if i can upgrade firmware with out losing google apps again i'm on firmware 10.0.1
How to unlock the bootloader?

i wouldnt recommend installing a custom rom that is not specifically for your device, especially if you are a noobie. the devices appart from the SOC have many components that require specific drivers. in any case, you have to be extra carefull in following the instructions otherwise ou ll end up with a brick. your best bet is to find a recovery (again for your device) and flash open gapps.

Is it possible to root Matepad T8 ?
I think you no longer need Custom ROM to use GApps into this device. I have bought this device few days ago and found a way to run GApps. Just open Huawei AppGallery and look for "GSpace", it will solve GApps issue.

Installing Turkish Rom on Global Redmi Note 9s

Hello every one,

My query is since it is not available in my country (Pakistan), Can I flash the Turkish Rom using Local Update Method?

Yes the Redmi Note 9s Global or Turkey is a curtana device.
Sent from my Redmi Note 9 Pro using XDA Labs
I'm using the Turkish 12.0.1 ROM (QJWTRXM) on a global 9S (QJWMIXM), it works fine. Make sure the firmware you're flashing is for curtana, and you should be good.
(Edit: I should probably clarify that this is a fastboot ROM I installed by unlocking the bootloader, flashing and then re-locking. If you want to install it as an OTA update and keep all of your data, I'm not sure whether that would work. It probably won't brick anything even if it fails, at worst it should just reject the update because of a mismatch.)

Oh. It's fine, I guess. To be honest there's not much they changed from MIUI 11, even the new control center is disabled by default. I don't use any of the stock apps or the battery/storage stats, the camera UI is slightly more annoying, and everything else is the same. The Google Now/Assistant/whatever panel on the leftmost homescreen was also replaced with Mi bloatware, though I don't use that either and it might be something specific to the Chinese/Turkish ROMs that will be fixed in Global.
And you can have apps in floating windows which is... a thing, I guess. I'm sure it will be useful someday, it's just kind of gimmicky since video players, chat apps and things you'd want in floating windows can usually do it already on their own, with much better UX.
To be honest the only reason I use MIUI is because it has the best "iPhone knockoff" launcher you can't get anywhere else, which is even more hilarious with the navigation gestures and the control center. They knew what they were doing, but it's honestly quite nice.

I locked it personally because SafetyNet (and by extension the things that rely on it) won't work with an unlocked bootloader, and I haven't installed Magisk. I don't see how the act of locking the bootloader itself could cause any problems, the people reporting those usually installed something through recovery or tried to flash a curtana ROM on a joyeuse.
You also can't really "hard brick" a properly designed phone by flashing software on it, unless you're doing something ridiculous like overvolting the CPU or the battery and frying it (if that's even possible). Even if you were to overwrite the entire nand chip with zeroes or random data, it SHOULD be possible to just flash the stock firmware back onto it with EDL or fastboot. The issue here is that the wrong firmware can also overwrite/break the bootloader and fastboot (somehow, I haven't seen this happen on any other phone in my life), and EDL mode on recent Xiaomi devices requires a patched firmware or you to pay someone a couple bucks for their authorized account.
The EU version miUi12 for curtana is available in Mi servers for download.
Why is there a need to release Turkish an Russian specific rom? Translation ?

That one's flagged as a "beta" and is only available as a recovery variant, fyi. You might have to install the MIUI 11 EU fastboot ROM first and update it with that.
There's a Russian and an Indian version too, even though both of those languages are present in all of the ROMs. It probably has more to do with local regulations and what's preinstalled on each ROM (India might have a Flipkart APK, Netflix might not be available in Russia or Turkey so that region doesn't get it, the EU has regulations that say you have to let your users choose their browser and search engine, Russia might specifically have an embargo on a company, etc.) If you're really interested in the differences between the ROMs you could wait until 12.0.1.0 is released for all regions, extract all the files you can from the system/cust/recovery/userdata/etc partitions in the firmware and run a diff tool on them. It could literally be as simple as "one of them has a Netflix.apk inside and one of them doesn't".
For what it's worth, the filesizes between the ROMs are wildly different (RU 3.8GB, TR 3.5GB, IN 3.0GB) and I'd be willing to bet most of that comes from 50-100MB preinstalled APKs.
That makes sense.
They could do a slim/no apps global version. I am debloating it anyways, would save me a lot of time
So I was bored and decided to do just that, and... pretty much. I haven't delved into the boot image or the system partition yet because I can't be assed to compile the tools and copy everything over to a Linux VM, but I can't imagine there's anything substantially different between the two, like completely different radio and camera drivers or something. Interestingly, abl.elf is different, which I think (?) is the actual bootloader binary, though it might just be a new version (one of the ROMs was compiled two weeks later). Another fun fact is that the flashing script has almost twice as many files to flash as earlier Xiaomi images from 2013-2014. Even the partitions are getting bloated.

Yeah, I wish. The EEA (European) ROM is probably your best bet, since it has the most consumer protection laws to adhere to. I think it even comes with ads disabled by default, or it has to show you a prompt or something.
good for share !!!
