Screen-off gestures? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Questions

Hello everybody!
I've recently switched from an OnePlus 5 and one thing I am missing is a screen-off gesture to turn on the flashlight. Alternatively an extra power button gesture (like a triple press) would be just as good.
I don't want to give up on the double power button press for camera gesture. I find the lockscreen shortcuts to be a bit unreliabile.
I've checked all the corners of the settings app but I still hope there's something I missed.
Thank you!

Use Nova Launcher instead of Oneui launcher.

As far as I know, there is no way Nova will have any impact on gestures while the SCREEN IS OFF.

You are right. Only gestures with launcher itself. No screen off gesture with nova launcher.
But if Samsung doesn't support it out of the box, I mean, S.O. doesn't have this feature, any solution you find with third part apps, will need a wake lock to work and will consume a lot of battery.

[Apex] Vote for doubletap to turn screen off

Hey Guys,
I'm on the CM Nightly 10-23-2013 and i missed the feature to turn off Screen with double Tap. I am a big Fan of the Apexlauncher, so i googled and somebody already did a request to implement a feature to turn of screen with a double tap.
Would be nice if some of you who use Apex too, would chime in and vote for that Feature

I have used Apex for years and love it. Check under "Behavior settings". Under "Gestures" is Double tap desktop. Assign the app Screen off and lock to it. Now you have tap to sleep or knock off. It works flawlessly and may be even better than the stock LG implementation. Works with Nova also.
I'am currently using this solution, but i'am a fan of native solutions which doesn't require a third party app

Yup - its built into the Kernel that's why knock on still works.
While I think it would be a very good option to provide, I currently use double tap to open my app drawer. I also don't use Apex any more. I've converted to Action Launcher, Aviate, and Nova Prime.
Just providing some input though. Apex was my favorite launcher at one time. I moved away because there was a period when it started getting really laggy and buggy. Once I got comfortable with Nova I just never went back.

So then you know nova has the double tap off gesture as well
i want this implemented in apex too. been wanting it since day one. but for now i'm happy with using Lock Screen app and triggering the action with a double tap.

Yes as I said, I use that feature. Works like a champ.
you can already do that, install this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
Then go into apex settings and set gestures, double tap, and set it to lunch the app.
Problem solved
Or if you have Greenify, which is one of my default apps. You can do double tap hibernate + lockscreen.
just install any "lock screen" app and assign it for doubletap gesture

[DIY] Knock-Off on any Non-Stock ROM

Just some info for everyone that is wondering, not sure if this has been covered yet, I looked and it seems that it hasn't been mentioned.
This is a very easy way to get customized knock-off (double-tap to turn off screen) working on any non-stock ROM where knock-off might not be included.
1. Download GMD Gesture Control from the market. You should probably use the paid version since the free version doesn't support custom gestures. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontrol&hl=en
2. Download the Screen Off app (free). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
3. Open up GMD and turn off any gestures you don't want that are included with the app.
4. Click on User Gestures up top, and then click path.
5. Under "Gesture Path", type in "T-T"
6. Click under action, select "application" and select "Screen Off" (the one that you just downloaded).
7. Click "Save" at the bottom, and bam. Double-tap goes to screen off.
**NOTE** I changed the starting zone (in the Create Gesture window) to only recognize double-taps on my status bar region, because often I would shut my screen off without meaning to.
Sorry, if this is a repost, I just spent a long hour pulling my hair out trying to get this to work with Nova launcher (wanted my double-tap to work anywhere in my ROM), and was super stoked when I figured this out.
Great idea I wonder why I haven't thought about this before
Thank you. I tried to spread the word on this method when CM was first released for the G2. My only difference is I use Secure Settings
Edit: just realized you missed another obvious bit
If you use Nova or Apex you can set a double tap gesture to turn off the screen the same way. Suddenly you have the same functionality as LG included

How can you do the screen off? I stopped using Nova because I could no longer turn off the screen, there is no turn screen of under gesture settings.

You are correct, there isn't a screen off option. However, you can set the double tap gesture to open a SHORTCUT that will turn the screen off.
I'm assuming the app OP linked to allows you to set a shortcut for screen off. If not, Secure Settings for sure does (it's what I use).
Here's proof that it works
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvesNzvgKDQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
That video uses OP's GMD Gesture control trick and Nova Launcher's double tap gesture. Only difference is I'm using secure settings instead of the screen off app
Ok, for those who want to use screen off with Nova or CM do this.
Download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
in Nova Settings go to gesture and Buttons/ Double tap/ and select Screen off, Simple as that. GL

Pixel or google now launcher

Hello, has anyone tried any other launchers yet? I'd prefer one with the google now cards.
I assume the pixel or google launcher will work well??
Let me know whatyou have tried
I use the Google Now launcher. It's in the store. Been using it on my last few phones and love it.
Just installed it. Works great (so far). I copied my Nexus 5X over to set up the v30 and installing the launcher restored all my previous icons and screens that were hidden by the LG launcher.
i used the google now launcher but the icons are too big.
downloaded the Nova launcher with Google Companion - much better. smooth, fast, and looks great. plus it has the pixel style app drawer (scrolling up)

I am currently using Nova Launcher on my Moto X Pure, but I couldn't find "Google Companion" in the play store. Am I missing something?
I can't wait to buy my unlocked v30 on (hopefully) October 27!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...lly-gets-google-now-integration-apk-download/
or google "google companion nova"
I use Nova prime and it's amazing truly. But I've used it on all my last phones. The v30 clearly runs it the best but still truly liked go launcher years ago until they got way into money grabbing for features.
I'm using the modified compatible pixel launcher. I also have Nova prime but I'm liking this so far. Works great!! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.xda-developers.com/pixel-launcher-2-android-oreo-download/amp/

Under Nova Settings. Gestures & Inputs, Double Tap - Choose Screen Lock. To set that gesture to work with the finger print scanner you have to set it as a preference. If you are not prompted when you set it up go Settings Advanced - Screen Lock Method, Choose 5 second option.
There is a slight delay if you double tap and want to turn the screen back on with the finger print scanner. (Pressing the power button twice will get the phone on and unlocked in this case if 5 seconds has not gone by.) But overall it's a workable compromise for me.
I am using the beta version of Nova in case this is a beta item...

If the finger print scanner is not working on unlock from the AOD, then open Nova Settings. Go to Advanced, Screen Lock Method. Make sure you have Timeout selected. Then when you double tap the screen will go black for 5 seconds, then the AOD will come on and you should be able to unlock it with the scanner. If you ever want to unlock it quicker, press the power button once to turn off, then unlock with the scanner.. Usually for me the 5 seconds is not an issue.
If you can't live with the 5 second delay, then you will have to use another launcher. I don't know if Action Launcher or Lawnchair suffer the same issues.

On Nova, for some reason if you set it to actually lock the screen and not go blank for the 5 seconds, it will make you enter the actual password. I tried it and it wouldn't accept the fingerprint. Kinda weird.

That is odd, my 1 minute timeout works with no issues.
Action launcher did remove the double tap to turn the screen off unfortunately, they said google wanted it removed for some reason.

Issue: Launchers when active disables the Double Tap feature to turn off the screen.

Issue: Launchers when active disables the Double Tap feature to turn off the screen.
I like to use Nova Launcher for several reasons. However with the new LG V30, when Nova Launcher is active the Double Tap to turn off the screen fails to work. Double Tap to turn it back on works fine, as does the Double Tap from the Lock Screen works for both screen on and off.
Is this a known issue with launchers, or is it an LG V30 issue?
I've not had a phone with the feature for Double Tap screen off/on before, so I have no idea if it's to be expected and find nothing posted about this either.
Thank you for reading,

Nova has its own homescreen shortcut for switching off the screen: Widgets -> Nova Action -> activate lockscreen. Of course Nova needs the permission for that.

Since that shortcut switched off the screen on every Android phone I had so far as long as Nova has the required administrator permissions set. So I see no need to avoid it.

There are two modes, one of which locks the phone, after which the fingerprint unlock doesn't work, you have to enter your code to unlock the phone. The other one doesn't lock the phone at all, it just turns off the screen, and the AOD doesn't show up untill the phone actually times out and locks on its own (it says after 5 seconds, but it's actually 30 seconds for me).
I would agree. The present implementation of Nova Launcher doesn't really follow function or form with the V30's own lockup function. It doesn't really lock the phone up. It just darkens the screen... not secure it.
What I really would like for Nova Launcher to do is to enable the user to use the whole screen to implement the knock code to lock the screen up. I think the reason we can use the notification area alone, is that this is part of the V30's own infrastructure layout, and not a Nova Launcher area.

Yes but as other posters have said, it doesn't actually lock the phone - it just turns the display black and only locks after the display time out (60seconds in my case). It doesn't turn off the touchscreen, it just blanks it.
If you are rooted nova can lock the screen just as lg launcher does.

Eliminate launcher lag. Zoom zoom.

I was annoyed by nova (and other) launchers delaying the launch of an app. There was a noticeable delay whenever I'd launch from the home screen.
For those that want their phone lightning fast, but also want a better launcher than the pixel launcher, here is an xposed mod that fixes it. The thread explains the how and why, but I assure you my phone has never been so fast.
Enjoy.

It's subtle. I use a swipe launcher and when I'd use the pixel launcher with it, the apps from the pixel launcher ran immediately and the apps from the swipe launcher delayed, or vice versa. I started messing with it and found it somehow related to the home screen. It also exhibits when running shortcuts.
So I ran into this - (pretty sweet nav bar replacement) https://www.xda-developers.com/navigation-gestures-update-app-launch-android-p/
and the author says if you run into delays use thatx xposed module. I did and all the delays were eliminated.
I'm not on something - you might not notice it until it's gone. Unless you don't run xposed, then maybe it's more work. Give it a try... or don't. Made a difference for me.

Since available I'm on permanent immersive mode. In RICE I have 0px for navigation bar height too. Also for about 3 years I'd prefer only gestures navigation method. Since I switched back from iOS (almost 5 years) and BB10 OS (dead) I can't imagine using my phone without gestures. Of course as a die hard Blackberry user I had a never ending ROTFL when Apple "reinvented" gestures navigation for iPhone X. My phone needs to be MINE!
