When using in phone or speaker phone mode, the volume is very low - even with it maxed with the buttons. Same goes when I listen to voice mails with ATT visual voicemail app. However, when playing music the volume is quite good even at 50% volume.
I noticed that phone use uses only the top speaker, while playing music uses both the top and bottom speaker. I'd like to get louder volume during calls. Anyone have suggestions or insights?
BTW I'm rooted and running Havoc 4.8 if that matters.
Thanks in advance.

During music play, has anyone else noticed small amount of static when changing volume. This happens to me particularly when increasing the volume control. However, it is very inconsistent. When I say static, I mean there is a volume increase (or decrease) with some amount of "other" sound added in. This was not something I noticed with my ipod touch and was just curious if anyone else has this or it's a hardware or software issue.
Do you see when playing music through the speaker only, or with earphones as well?
Speaker is not clear enough to hear if there is any audible noise during volume increase or decrease. . . also hear it when using other music players such as cubed. Also, I was listening through my earphones to Avatar and even though the audio is very clear, when increasing and decreasing the volume I still hear what I guess is better described as a small pop instead of static. That might be a better description for the music noise as well.
Static, crackle, pop
I've been listening to audio books on my Vibrant lately and I've noticed this happening a lot. I've heard it through headphones and I have even heard popping / crackling on the speaker when it plays notification sounds.
Did this turn out to be a defect or is it an issue that everyone has occassionally but just ignores?
Thanks
Does this happen when using the on-screen volume control in the music app or only the rocker button?
Mine will actually crackle even when I'm not touching it.

Yes mine too. It will sporadically "skip" in all music players whether I'm using headphones or not.
Vibrant vibrating nicely now,Kthx!
So ive noticed this since ive gotten my Razr. I was hoping it would be fixed in the last update but it wasnt.
Ive kinda put it in the back of my head till just now.
Whenever I make/receive a phone call (Vz number or google voice) the call volume is automatically at 100% LOUD. Not terrible when im holding the phone to my head, but what just pissed me off, is that i have my headphones in and called my voice mail. FULL BLAST in my ears
All previous phones ive had will remember the last set volume and keep it at that for the next incoming/outgoing call.
Ive looked thru the settings and it looks like you can only change the volume for: ringtone, media, alarm, and notification. Am i missing something or are a lot of others having this problem?
+1
I am using a very sensitive / efficient IEMs, Westone UM3Xs; SPL rated 124dB/mW. In other word, at 1mW of power, it can produce listening experience during F1 starting grid from grandstand seat!.
I am shocked and very surprised when "Low battery" notification blasts off while listening music or podcasts. For normal listening, I set the volume LESS than 50%, and MINIMUM level during voice call.
I wish we can do separate volume levels for headphone output.
Thank you.
Anyone else have this issue?
I can control the volume separately, (normally you need the device connected if your using the side buttons) but you can change BT, ear, headphone, etc.
... and the volume change DOES persist.
So perhaps this is something with your config.
Does anybody else's navigation volume seem very low? Like obviously too quiet? I was at full volume and could not hear it very well over road noise. Any way to increase volume?
Update: just tried playing some spotify songs over speaker and it also seems quite low for full volume. Is there a way to test speaker output to make sure they are working how they should?

I have tried a few things. I noticed slacker Pandora and iheart radio were all loud while no matter what I couldn't get the navigation voice to ever increase to the same level as them. When I disabled beats I noticed they were closer in volume level. But still not effective. Voice should be higher. Maybe if someone can verify wether or not the navigation uses beats our not would be a start.

Interesting; I'll try turning off beats and see if that helps.
My top right speaker keeps blowing. It sounds like text message alerts, phone calls, and the alarm blow the speaker. I have been through 7 phones from bestbuy all the same exact issue. I try to keep the sound settings down but when I'm in call I have to turn the phone all the way up to hear who I'm talking to and dont remember to always turn the sound back down before I get another message or phone call and it blows the speaker. It will just crackle and first and then completely not work. Bestbuy is blaming me for it blowing but everything is stock settings and everything... Anyone else having an issue?
Do you have any volume or sound apps installed? There is quite a bit of power going to those speakers as-is, so any equalizers, or volume booster could possibly cause a short.
I had my volume at about 85% today listening to music, and not even the slightest crackle occurred.
When I use headphones or earbuds with my phone, the in-call volume is extremely low, even with the volume maximized. Music and media are at normal volume with the headphones, and in-call volume is normal when using the earpiece or loudspeaker. It's just that when I make a call with headphones, I can almost not hear the person on the other end.
I've tried tinkering with every volume setting option, including those in DSP and even tried Volume+ (which unnecessarily boosts media volume to the extreme, but does absolutely nothing for in-call volume). I've also spent hours searching the internet and existing forums for a solution. I found this: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337357) but unfortunately that only bricked my phone. I'd really love to be able to use earbuds when on a call. Any ideas??
P.S.
I'm running CM11 on a Motorola Defy, if that's important.
