Welcome to XDA...
For future reference there is a Question and Answer section... but everyone make that mistake when they first come..
What do you mean by appropriate fit launcher? here are a few launchers you may want to try:
Apex - simple, light
Nova - simple, light
Shell 3D - Fancy, 3D (expensive: $20)
Next - New, 3D. loads of add ons.
Action Launcher - similar to next
Go Launcher - heaps of add ons... perhaps too many!?!
fit to screen
Sony Xperia Z ultra is a bigger size phone. Actually I tried Go Launcher first as like on my old samsung galaxy note 2 but that does'nt fit with this new handset...so, I just want to know if there is any launcher which fits the huge screen of Xperia Z ultra

try apex. you can make it have 7 icons on the dock. change the amount of space (collums and rows) on the screen and cram icons in.. same with the app draw.
My favourite Launcher, in the order of preference is:
#1 Next Launcher 3D with Meego or Ubunty themes and use Circuitry Live wallpaper in the background.
#2 ADW Launcher EX
#4 SPB Shell 3D or free version Yandex Shell
#3 Go Launcher EX/Prime
-----Every other launcher is more or less same as they all try to represent stock Android JB/ICS/KitKat so if thats what you are after then get Nova, Apex etc... or get yourself a Nexus 4/5 or Google editions of Galaxy S4/HTC One.

In what exact way does the GO Launcher "not fit" with the XZU?
GO is extremely configurable - including the size of the icon grid and the size of the icons themselves. I've also come from a Note 2 to the XZU and I'm using GO with no problems - and I have 7 screens of icons and widgets on my phone.
Try buzz launcher... They have their own store for themes and some of them are amazing to say the least!

I like the Action Launcher. It does not offer endless options but it has the most unique features...
Thanks Everyone, now comfortably switched over to NOVA LAUNCHER...feeling much better:angel:

Just run 7 rows and 7 columns on the homescreen and it will look perfect.
I also use "Tap home button" again to show text messages.
and
Swipe finger up on homescreen to open phone app
Hi
What feature will I lose if I install an Action Launcher or Nova Launcher on my Home, instead of the default Huawei Launcher? In that case, how will I access Google Home.
When you also install Fluid N.G. app from Play store together with Nova Lancher for example you can setup your Home Button the way you want. I have it set to swipe up for Google Home .
Nova launcher together with nova companion. Then you do have all google functionalities.
Was this the answer you needed?
Weather widget is not available on the Nova Launcher.

How about the gesture navigation, knuckle screenshot, split screen etc
They work without any problem on Nova
How do you access Google Assistant with Nova
I have found nova to be the only launcher so far. Pixel launcher, lawn hair and other seem to just crash and smart recovery comes up recommending you uninstall

Action Launcher also works very well
Stock widget doesn't work on any 3rd party launchers....
Recent Apps doesn't work right with nova launcher.
If you want to open the last app and just click the last App on the left(don't swipe), you will land on the Homescreen.
Also sometimes there is a light blue Background in the recent apps view, like if you select something.
Ich wish in the near future there will be an option to use navigation like in Stock Android. I've tried it out and it makes Multitasking really comfortable.
If I use the stock Huawei home launcher, all my apps will stay open with no issues, but when using nova launcher, my apps constantly restart. Has a fix been discovered yet? I've read on Reddit that it's a common issue but haven't read about a fix.

I noticed that too. Much better ram management on stock launcher. Also on 3rd party launchers you can notice a blue tint on the app switcher and you can't tap the apps on the edges, only the middle one.
Huawei wants to stop using custom launchers, maybe it's a trick to get most users back to stock launcher.
other than not being able to expand over 5x5 grid i dont see any reason why anyone would wanna change from stock launcher to something else...specially when you can put material icons on stock launcher .... if you are facing issues with other launchers why go there.
on nova may be pull notification down gesture is good other gestures are helpful as well.....
oh and the battery usage on stock launcher is so minimal.... as compared to every other launcher out there.

Don't like the fact that I can't disable HiSearch and doesn't have a swipe down gesture to reveal the notification bar.

Had the same issue after updating to emui9, and using Nova launcher.
Only fix I've found is disabling Huawei launcher with adb.
My free ram was dropping down to 600mb and apps kept reloading when switching.
You also get back the old vertical scrolling recent apps.
Now ram stays the same as it was on Oreo around 2.5gb free, and apps stay in memory.

I have the same problem, my temporal solution is going to apps, search for Huawei Home and stop it. After stopping it, it will free a lot of memory, free memory will go up from 600MB to 3.2GB. I am doing it once every 2 days and I am not having any more app closing by themselves.
I should disable the app as it is recommended, but I do not have access to a computer at this moment to run the ADB commands.

I have disabled the stock launcher since I installed Nova Launcher for my Huawei Mate 20 Pro. After updating to 9.0.0.183, the animations seem to be working fine already.

I just disabled the Launcher. It's working fine now after updating to 9.0.0.183
The only thing that's annoying me now is the front facing camera's stubborn beauty mode that cannot be disabled.
I have loaded the update 182 (yes 182 not 183) from funky Huawei about two weeks ago and that has fixed the one minor issue I've had with Nova Launcher.
It has been working perfectly fine since then.
My only issue now is that the Nova Launcher support has sent me an angry reply to my request because I own a Mate 20 Pro.
Those guys are pretty angry because of the accusations of Huawei intentionally sabotaging them.

I use nova launcher.
you dont understand... can you install newest pixel or lawnchair launcher and set it as default, and give all permissions (and since you disabled the launcher you have to use the navkeys right? ) then reboot.... and look if the new pie gesture ui kicks in.... the recent overview and pill navbar.
get the. apk from xda or apk mirror
because the launcher is responsible for the navigation gestures in android P.
realy hate the emui gestures and wish to use stock android P gestures
this will take max 15min. of your time but help me forever.
thanks in advance

Really? So when swiping up to go to home screen it doesn't show the recent apps for a split second and then go home? It's definitely a bug others have experienced when using gesture nav on emui.

No it works like stock launcher
The gesture navigation works ALMOST perfectly with nova launcher. This is the best I could ask for. But just let me point out some scenarios that it stutters a little bit.
1. The animation when close an app is gone. You can't see the app fading into its position on the home page.
2. The gestures are a bit more sensitive on nova than stock EMUI. For example, swipe up and hold for recent apps. On EMUI launcher, it is about 0.5 seconds. However on nova, it is more like 0.3. Thus I often hold for too long and end up on recent apps instead of home page.
3. Under some special circumstances, the background picture for recent apps screen is the previous app you used. It looks extremely weird. I didn't manage to get a SS of it. Will upload once it happens again.
Having said all of that. I feel this 183 update improved the gestures navigation by a huge leap! Just need time to get use to it.

The beauty of Nova is, you can run both launchers, customize each as you like and switch between the two on-the-fly.
Infinite scrolling, custom bottom bar, multiple grid layouts...
When I get my P6P (today in theory) I will load all my apps from the Play store and restore my Nova backup. BOOM! my new phone will look and function exactly like my old phone... only bigger and cooler.

I had never heard of the MS launcher, or maybe never really given it any mind. I looked at it yesterday after you mentioned it and it looked awful. I really hate the tiles and the forced news that I could care less about... too much work to make it what I wanted.

Then you're missing out IMHO.
There is nothing "wrong" with the Pixel launcher per se, as long as you don't care that Google, like Apple, dictates how you interact with your phone; but, if you want to customize your phone to your liking, a custom launcher is the only way to go.
Nova has been rock-stable for a long time and has a myriad of great features, most of which are free.
ƒ
+1 for Nova.
Nova is my launcher of choice.
It has been for a decade or so now.
I've tried many others but always come back to it.
Sometimes I use Action Launcher or will try something new but again always come back to Nova, which I am actively using on my new Pixel 6 (received it yesterday) as I find the stock launcher extremely lacking in features - haven't suffered a single launcher related performance or stability issue for a very long time, including on my P6.
I don't like having an app drawer or icons / widgets cluttering up my home screen so I assign gestures to launch specific frequently used apps such as Chrome and YouTube and for Nova's integrated "app search", which also displays other recently used, newly installed or frequent apps in tabs separate from the search bar.
I have a single Google "At A Glance" widget
and use the Maxelus Galaxy Pack Live Wallpaper app for additional personalisation and because I'm a nerdy space cadet.
+2 Nova. Double tap to lock gesture is something I have implemented for years and the customization is endless.

Wait, what's Nova Companion? I just put the Google icon on my home screen so I could tap it to get to the Google interface, but a left-swipe would be way cleaner...

A little late to the party. Always used Lawnchair launcher on my Pixel3. Just got my P6 a few days ago and upgraded to Lawnchair again. Seems pretty stable on Android 12. I add Lawnfeed to enable Google feed left-swipe. Lawnchair is pretty similar to Pixel launcher except you can customize much more than stock (ie, disabling the bottom search bar).
