According to the instructions below, you can root your phone. And that's what I did. But...
What is the point of root if the system is read-only?
No call recording app works.
The Root Explorer app gets permissions, but the system is read-only.
Magisk gets permissions, but root doesn't work. How to fix this in RUI 1.0?

Hello,
I only want to install some apps from the market (setcpu, market enabler and root explorer,...) that requiers root access.
So what do I have to do? Is it enough if I just unlock my bootloader with the tool on htcdev.com?
Which way of rooting my device would you recommend me?
I use an evo 3d gsm (eu version).
thx for the help
Honestly I go with the root posted here in xda, my friend rooted with the HTC method and has had some wierd stuff going on ( no roaming or 3g) I've had my phone rooted with the method given here on xda and haven't got any problems.

The main limitation to modifying anything on our device is the internal memory write protection HTC has installed.
There is a temporary method, which will work on previous system software versions to get root acccess, traditional out of bounds exploit, fre3vo.
This will have to be run after each boot to get root access as it does not unlock the internal memory write protection, hence the term temporary root.
In order to unlock the internal memory write protection, so our modifications to the system persist past reboot, we have to run of two unlock methods, revolutionary or htc.
Personally, I ran revolutionary and will probably still continue to do so as it unlocks more of the internal memory more of the time.
If you're looking to follow the *official* route, you'll probably want to use the HTC method. This method is semi new and I haven't personally used it. I only speak from experienced gained through others posting their experiences. If I leave something out, I'm sure somebody will correct me.
The official htc dev method should unlock the write protection at least while in the bootloader and fastboot mode where you can flash a custom recovery and/or custom kernel. Once you have a custom recovery loaded, you can boot into recovery mode, where the internal memory write protection on the /system partition is disabled and make changes to the system, i.e. install an su binary or Superuser.apk (has its own su binary) to provide root access to Android applications.
After you've installed either the su binary, or the Superuser.apk, my application called Root Check is free in the android market and the advanced mode will provide all the details either confirming a proper installation or highlighting the area with issues.
I'm sure there is a guide around here .. I probably should have linked to it rather than write out the process ... lol
Hope that helps and best of luck!
Assuming you have the 1.5 HBoot? If so I dont really know anything about that...I wouldnt use HTCs method.
If you have an Hboot before 1.5 just use unrevolked.
S-Off does not mean you have root BTW it just means you can flash stuff. Once you have S-Off you have to flash super user to get root access.

no way to get a390 rooted
hi! i'm trying to root and setup a recovery on this phone but i cannot do it...
tried with no luck:
- scoutdriver73's method: sp flash tool hint me that it can download only a full image
- root with recovery method: script doesn't recognize when i confirm on smartphone for the reset, same for root option in mtk droid tools
- this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332783 for extract boot.img and recovery.img and fix root permission with mtk droid tool, i get this error: 0 [main] gzip 4324 find_fast_cwd: WARNING: Couldn't compute FAST_CWD pointer when i load my recovery.img on mtk tool.
i noticed there is a size difference between TWRP img i downloaded from web (5640Kb) and the one i extrated directly from phone (6144kb)
any suggest?
thanks
(LATE REPLY) This is how I rooted my a390
I noticed the post is 10 months ago, but I'm replying right now because there may be other users hunting for root solutions for this device.
How to root your Lenovo a390:
1. Download Framaroot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
Framaroot is an Android app created by XDA user alephzain. It allows you to root your device directly from your Android device-please click on link above to view full compatibility list. Download and Install this app. If it says "Installation blocked", go to your phone's Settings>Security and tick the "Unknown Sources" box. (Believe me, there are n00bs )
2. Open Framaroot. For the a390, there is only one exploit-Boromir, since it's a Mediatek powered device. Select Boromir.
3. Now you see two buttons: Install Superuser and Install SuperSU. You need to select only one of them. Framaroot will then root your device and install Superuser/SuperSU. (Superuser/SuperSU are apps which control root operations on your device ie. ensure no app uses root features without your permission-it is a MUST.)
The choice is up to you, but I'd recommend Superuser since it's like the Industry standard of rooted Android phones.
4. Reboot your phone. You'll find Superuser installed. Open it, swipe from left to right to access Superuser settings. The su binary is outdated and it'll appear in a red font. Tap it to update su binary.
This is proof enough that your phone is rooted, but if you really need to see, here's one more step.
5. Install Root checker from Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck
Run this app, and if your phone is rooted, Superuser will come up automatically asking you whether Root Checker should be granted permission- press Yes and root Checker will deliver the result.
That's it-congratulations, you've rooted your a390 without any pain. Now you can flash a recovery, install Busybox, overclock your phone, get rid of the dumb apps Lenovo has included with the a390.... Enjoy!
I rooted my Micromax Bolt q324with kingoroot pc software successfully but after a few days i cant able to get root access for some apps like when i install a new root app it asks me for permission then i tap grant but the app shows unable to gain root access. how to fix this issue i tried flashing my phone with stock ROM then again rooting it with kingoroot but again no luck i was unable to gain root access for some apps but when i check root access with root checker it says root access properly installed and i can go to terminal with root access but when i try to mount system as rw it shows ''Mount: operation not permiited" how to fix this issue!!!
And yes the phone is a spreadtrum sc7731 chipset device so the rom file is in .pac format but i figured that how to flash it.So i am willing to install a Custom ROM if you provide me the link of it.......

I would try this. Kingoroot and Kingroot both have their own superuser app that doesn't always work that well.
Hello, I am french so excused my writing in short
I felt root my onor 5x Kiw-L21 b140. I root it using kiwi_twrp_3-21_recovery and SR5-SuperSU-v2.78-SR5-20161130091551. I followed the tutorial present on this forum. When I use an application to detect the root, the application says that I am root but when I turn on Wifikill or adaway they do not detect the root yet they have super user rights. Here I thank in advance and I try to find a solution to my problem

I think the problem is that you may be using "systemless root", check it.
Yep, most probably that is the case. Try to find systemless host files for AdAway and flash those before flashing AdAway...
if you are sure that you have supersu installed on your device, then goto supersu settings and select root access by default and set it to grant instead of prompt.. now everything should work without asking permission..
I was hoping to get some assistance on my struggle to gain full root access to my Meizu 5 Pro (Chinese version)
I've followed this https://forum.xda-developers.com/meizu-pro-5/how-to/tutorial-change-region-id-to-t3323883/ guide but I'm getting stuck on getting the access. I attached pictures for you to see where I'm at. Where I've hit the wall as it were.
As you'll see on the pics I actually do have root privileges as root permissions are no longer hidden from me and
fastboot screen on the bottom of the screen also shows that the phone is rooted. But the terminal emulator isn't giving access.
I rooted the phone by logging into Flyme account then -> Settings -> Apps -> searched for Flyme app that has "root" in the description. I ran it,
accepted terms, rebooted and root was enabled. This is the vendor-made way of rooting the phone.
What can I try ?

As it appears the phone is rooted but the app tools (SuperSU, terminal emulator, BusyBox) aren't recognizing it.
