I could not find the
GSI "Starter Pack" (From Google) from this link.
Could you please be more specific and tell us which GSI will work (Android 12, 11, or 10, and ARM64+GMS, ARM64, x86_64+GMS, or x86_64.). Thanks.

I want to unlock my bootloader and root my 3 iii but I have read something about needing to back up and restore DRM keys otherweise some camera features and other stuff wont work anymore. Is that something that needs to be done on this phone and also, what exactly is the GSI stuff? It looks like that is an entire rom or something. Do we need to flash/install that? I am fine with the stock firmware. Im out of my element with this Sony stuff.

Hey, the "Starter Pack" is just another Name for the Google Zip which includes GSI and vbmeta. We are on ARM64 and GMS means GApps are included. Please read a bit about how Treble and GSIs are working and start from there. x86_64 btw. is the Dekstop Platform (Like Intel or AMD PCs). Basic knowledge
Don't want to make this an Info/Wiki Thread or so...

That Informations are old and obsolete. Hardware works just fine after unlocking (On all Xperias since 2019), DRMs can be restored like i wrote in the Guide. We are using OLED HDR Displays. So don't care about Bravia or such stuff. Only Netflix and Video Enhancements aside from the Creator Mode are not working if unlocked. But AOSP is here and ROMs are also coming based on SODP and AOSP (With Mainline Kernels (Or GKI)) Please also read about Treble and GSIs before You start! It's a thing since Android 8 on all Android Devices. So it will be good to know! GKIs are also coming to all Android Devices soon...

How can I convert Xperia 1 IIi Docomo SO-51b to Global version?

You can try to use another (EU/US) Firmware with NewFlasher but no warranty that it will work @nchmaster
You should check the Basebands compatibility before so make sure You're flashing a Firmware that works with Your Countries Bands.

No it isn't. That's why I am asking. I got my Xperia 1 iii a few weeks ago (before this tutorial) and did the exact same steps but without the GSI thing and everything works fine.

Perfect. I tried to ask that before and was just told to read up on GSI. That wasnt any real help to my question. lol I was looking it over and it looked like it was a really vanilla version of android more less for app developers so I was c onfused if it was in fact needed to simply root the phone.

I asked what it was exactly and do we need to install it for the root process. By the way, it is not needed for the rooting process. I have successfully rooted the phone so thank you for the tutorial.
Just a suggestion, you should maybe add that after you flash the edited boot image to A and B and you reboot the phone, you will have to reinstall Magisk just to save some possible confusion as its no longer installed from being wiped during the bootloader unlock process.

The "starter" pack is just another name for either gsi_gms_arm64-...zip or aosp_arm64-...zip. If you want Google apps then you choose gsi_gms_arm64-...zip, if you do not want Google apps then choose aosp_arm64-...zip. Both of these zip files contain only the system.img and vbmeta.img.

GSI means General System Image. Systems are the Main OS You are using. Flash a GSI and it isn't Stock anymore... Don't replace the System If You want to keep Stock!

[Q] Rom vs Flash?

Okay I'm a noob and I've watched the noob video. I've tried but I just can't seem to find the answers to these questions...
I have a Bell locked SGS2. Do I have to unlock before I do any rooting?
What is the difference between flashing vs installing a custom ROM?
Are Cyanogen and MIUI roms? Are they firmware? What the heck is firmware?
Why does the Canadian guide tell me I have to download a firmware to root?
If I install this firmware (through Odin), then can I flash MIUI?
I thought I would be able to figure this out in afternoon. Guess not.
Thanks. If there's an FAQ for all this stuff that I missed, please direct me to it.
Ugh normally I would tell you to stop expecting things to get spoon fed to you, but I can't bother.
No you do not need to unlock before you root. Unlocking has nothing to do with android or system.
Flashing is the process of installing or copying a new system over to your phone. A custom rom is a rom derived from stock/manufacturer rom but altered. Be it apps removed, new kernel, or the source code was altered.
Cyanogen and MIUI roms are roms derived from google android source code but changed to make the system better. Firmware is software, it is the leader of the hardware, it tells the hardware what to do. In other words, without software, your phone cannot do anything.
Go search up on how to root, I stop spoon feeding you here. Get some independence, 13 yrs old? Great time to start developing independence. 16? Not bad, recommend you start developing now. 18? Woowhee kinda late, better late than never though. 21? Wow...
Go look at the MIUI guide to see how to install.
Google is your best friend. If you can't use it i'm sorry but this technological world is too much for you and I recommend you stick to a dumbphone or iphone.

Leave some posts so I know it works OK, I'm new to this
It would be good if someone could post if this rom was ok, as have a T825 rom built with the same method that I cannot test, due to having a T820 myself. So speak up please
Thank you for this. Now I have to ask a couple of newbie questions. I've been exclusively in the Sony Xperia and Nexus worlds before, this being my first Samsung. In trying to figure out if the processes I've become familiar with are applicable to this device, using your ROM.
For instance, my Sony's were pretty easy after the initial root. Kind souls in the community took new releases and created a pre-rooted firmware with TWRP and SuperSU built-in. I could then just dirty flash the ROM from TWRP, sometimes wiping cache/dalvic, and like magic my device is upgraded with no loss of data.
Is this how it works with this AQF5 ROM? I'm starting with a rooted (@ashyx method) T820 with AQBB. Do I just download the rooted ROM to SD card, boot to TWRP, dirty flash and go?
Thanks again!
Hi,
Dirty flash should work, sometimes I try that first and if I get any strange behaviour, do a wipe and re flash then load the rest back with titanium backup. Make sure you have all your backups organised first before starting.
Let me know how it works out. The risk with the first option is something residual being left that may result in force closes or just defeating the purpose.
Just beware if for some reason it doesn't root DM verity will occur and you will be forced to format internal data so back that up to your external card too, before, just in case, shouldn't happen though. I have no idea how many others have used this yet as there have been no replies to say all ok

Not sure I can use this ROM in Germany, what kind of modifications are made? Would love to see some development
As long as you have the same model T-820 you can, some local variants have a local customisation but it's likely to be minor with this model. From memory when I set it up on mine all common languages were available, if that's your concern, make sure you have a twrp backup and you can always roll back
The only mods were as listed above, seems slightly quicker, perhaps the zip aligning, but it will allow more mods as they come along

I have always wondered about that. Flashing a base from another country. Like I live in the US so I always have flashed USA versions. You are
saying that I CAN flash this Korean version on my T-820 phone and have all working ok with English ?

For the record, I don't live in the us but bought mine from best buys whilst there, it was rooted within a couple of hours from memory,..... can't help myself ?.
I Flashed a firmware from another country after that,, just because it was a later series, can't remember which.
I use the Tweaked one as my daily driver, people seem to be finding that good. I have found the latest firmware now seems to carry out a full wipe, and I haven't managed to flash a rom over it yet, so reverted back to the Tweaked version I have.
It may require an update to TWRP
If you have any problems restore your backup, if you want to persist flash the firmware that its based on first,AQF5, then flash the ROM over it, with our without wipe.

Question Possible to make a custom rom?

I'm a amateur but i'm willing to learn and put the time in,
I have put custom roms on all my previous phones and tweaked them to my preferences, but I have no idea where to start from the ground up, as usually more people are creating/playing with the same phone, this one seems to be the ugly duckling, wich noone seems to bother with. I have requested the unlock bootloader with the goal of rooting the phone. But before I start going in this rabbit hole, is it possible, and where can I start.
It's a great phone, just too much bloatware, I even have a weird issue that I can't open my accessibility. It keeps closing settings. and I want the android base, not the ZUI OS.
Same question dude..
The software of legion duel 2 make me doubt purchase or not that phone...
Is the software is too bad ?

It's working, and not that it's bad, but not a fan of zui os, and the bloatware, I guess this site spoiled me, I was expecting a twrp and some custom os. for example , it gets hot very quick, and I assume its the bloat ware running in the background. I think we get a better deal with stock android than the zui os, even if I have to give up the rgb on the back

Yes... I see similar things in the reviews and comparison of this phone...
The smartphone gets hot.. when shouldn't make it...the two fans in combination with the steam chamber and the multiple layers of dissipation should be enough to dispel the high temperature...
And makes me think, that is the bad optimization of the software...
In combination of the bad update supports of the Motorola/Lenovo's phones ...
Makes me doubt purchase this phone...
The salvation of the weakness point of this phone is the community :'c ...
Well said! That's exactly how I feel
If you have unlocked your bootloader, flash a generic system image, or GSI. You can check it out on Google. Not all features works though.

GSIs are system images so you have to flash in fastboot(wipe in twrp first then fastboot flash system xxx.img)
At google's website, you can choose android 11 gsi, and even android 12 gsi. However they may not boot, if that's the case try luck with phh treble or erfangsi

Root STOCK ROM the simple way (HD1925)

I accidentally stumbled upon a very simple way to install magisk (root).
Prerequisites
1: Bootloader unlocked
2: crDroid recovery
Boot to fastboot, install crDroid recovery on both slots. Boot to recovery. Sideload magisk.zip, reboot and profit!
Idk if crDroid recovery has to be installed on both slots, but I flashed it to both slots. Also, I used magisk 24.1 apk. I changed "apk" to "zip" then sideloaded it in crDroid recovery. I did it on the latest security update 11.0.1.18 and it seems to work flawlessly. Even passed safetynet. I would assume that technique will work on any version, but don't hold me to that. BTW, I used crDroid 12.1 recovery. Here's the files I used, https://drive.google.com/file/d/12sFTVOcu_Q5qfYG2bm9Z3ji3I5f2b_6-/view?usp=drivesdk

I'll probably do a "take 2" video today. I really should've planned it out before recording the video the other day. But obviously I just "winged" it I didn't even know I hadn't unlocked the bootloader yet So y'all got to see all of my little "mishaps" (that we all go through occasionally) but other than that everything still worked out exactly like I said it does.

For the past 30 days ive been away from any phone, so i havnt learned any new tricks or hacks. I currently dont have a phone, so im not able to look into that for you.
No problem. Thank you for the reply and awesome tutorial.

Question New to The A7 lite need some help.

Long story short.
I picked up this cheap tablet because i want to install it in my car permanently. If it gets stolen it's easily replaceable. It is a SM-T227U
Upon buying it I've found out a couple things. I can't root it? And
I cant use android auto on it.
I've heen digging through these forums but the threads are kinda confusing. Would anyone have time to walk me through a root process and show me how to obtain whatever os I need to accomplish what I'm trying to do? My biggest concern right now is getting android auto to connect wirelessly to my Kenwood.
I side loaded the apk but, my device still won't connect for audio. Only calls. Which I don't have lol

Pretty easy just to root the factory firmware. Using GSI's to change the OS is a bit more reading and work but the fastbootd method isn't too bad.. Here's the link for just rooting it...
[TUTORIAL] How To Unlock & Root Tab A7 Lite T220/T225, & Install LSPosed, Magisk, Mods
While some of these instructions are copied from other sources, I combined all the different things I learned, because no one guide was sufficient, and all needed additional info, so I expanded it all to one place. Part I is partly from...

Should be the same I think. You'll just have to do all of step III since you don't have one of the listed devices. Here's a post from that thread who did it and even posted their patched boot image if you want to use that firmware...

Yeah... I've read that about a few of the cellular equipped ones and of course... particularly Verizon. There seem to be a couple methods to get the toggle to show up but they seem to be pretty wonky. Sorry, but other than reading about a few folks succeeding I can't help with that much.
