Hi All,
It took me a while to figure out, but you can add an option to hide the grey nav bar on an unrooted HAM2 and make it reappear by swiping up. It is somewhat confusing because the nav bar setting is not available if you have your Emotion UI set to the Standard home screen style. You have to apply the "Simple" home screen style first, which is the one with the giant colored buttons for grandma to use.
After you apply the Simple home screen style, go back into settings, select More Settings and then scroll down to the bottom of the list. You will see a new option called "Navigation Bar" has been added. If you press this option you will see a toggle switch for "Hide Navigation Bar" along with some instructions on how to use it. Once you have toggled the switch to hide the navigation bar, you can revert back to the Standard Emotion UI and the setting will be retained.
After I hid the navigation bar I found some apps I had difficulty installing would start to work OK. For example, if you try to install NBA Jam without hiding the navigation bar, it will get hung on the initial splash screen. After I hid the navigation bar, NBA Jam would check for updates and then proceed to the game without any problem.
Hope this helps anyone having difficulty with the nav bar!

This is the Kitkat feature I missed the most. My main motivation to buy a HAM2 was to read novels in it, instead of carrying a smaller phone and a tablet. For that purpose, the screen is stunning, but that dammed gray navbar was always in the way. Not anymore!
Thank you so much for this tip. You made my day!
Wow, nice find!
Now I have a bit more room on this already huge display. Thanks! :good:

This option should be there regardless of what launcher u are using.. It's a standard feature in the settings.. No? I have a China version on 4.4.2.. No sure if there's a difference though..

A bit laggy compared to using one of the root options.

A bit laggy compared to using one of the root options. But better ten nothing if you don't want to root. Thanks.
Thank you,.!.!
Only reason I wanted to rood was immersive mode, this is close enough.
I love this phone even more now - coming from a 32gb One plus one.
Damn! You had a oneplus one? I got an invite but I'm gonna have to pass on that

WOW!!! Thanks so much for sharing this great find. It works GREAT!!!!!
Thanks given. This was the only reason I was rooted. Along with greenify. Now with the ability to hide the navbar and the ability to disable background apps included in the stock ROM, I really don't have any need for root. I still might use links2sd to install more apps if I hit that 6gb limit. This phone is solid!
Making the navigation bar hidden is called "immersive mode". There are apps on the Play Store that supposedly let you toggle immersive mode. Please post your results if you try one.
I'm guessing those apps will let you switch to immersive mode independent of standard or simple mode.
Hi, when using a 3rd party launcher like Apex or Nova, there is no notification bar. Does anyone know how I can get notifications? I tried Swipe Status Bar but it doesn't work. Thanks

There is no constant notification bar like on a phone (always at the top) but you can change the settings to have "swipe down" to display notifications.
Apex settings-->behavior settings-->under gestures select "swipe down"-->show notifications
Problem is, that only works on the home page, not while in other apps. And getting to the home page while in other apps is a pain, since they didn't make a home button...unless I've somehow just missed that.
All In One Gestures (app) is your answer - install from Play Store.
Allows you to configure swipes and taps to allow, e.g, Home action.
Is there a way to make the navigation bar in V30 Oreo permanently visible?
So always visible on the home screen, in app drarer and in all the apps? It now keeps disappearing after a few seconds so going 'Home' takes 2 actions or more in stead of just pushing the Navigation Circle Icon.
I'm using Nova Launcher Prime 5.5.4 paid version but I think it's a V30/Oreo issue.
Please help!

Yes. Turn on the Home touch buttons in Settings. (In Settings search function, look for Home Touch buttons.)
Then go into that setting and you will see "Hide Home touch buttons" category. Disable hiding them for any apps. It will give you a list of apps to selectively hide the Home touch buttons. Just disable everything with switch at the top of the page. Scroll down through the list, make sure they are all turned off.
Honor 7C, Android 8.0.
I hide the nav bar with an app that gets the permission to hide it through adb (eg. Navigation Gestures app). So when I simply press “Hide navigation bar” in the Navigation Gestures app, the nav buttons disappear, but the invisible bar stays on. To remove the bar I first go to the phone’s settings, make the bar hideable there, hide it natively, then go to the Navigation Gestures app and hide the bar there. It’s now gone. But as soon as I make a swipe from the bottom of the screen, the invisible bar appears (without the buttons), pushing the icons up. It only happens on the home screen, not in any other apps.
As far as I understand it’s the phone’s launcher responsible for this behavior, it’s not a bug of the Navigation Gestures app (I tried two such apps). So can the nav bar be hidden completely with adb or otherwise?
Hey everyone I'm facing a problem and it's driving me crazy !:crying:
my hands are big so is my thumb and for that reason I hate navigation bar , cause all the time I mistakenly press them when I'm typing something and it takes me back to home screen , so then I used to hide nav bar and use gestures but after disabling nav bar I can not replay to my friends stories in Instagram , what happens is that when I tap on the text box below the story keyboard comes up but whatever key I press it won't start typing in the box , so I had to re-enable the god damn nav bar and now I'm having difficulty with pressing them by mistake ,I'm not using any apps for gestures, I'm using Nitrogen OS (10-Jan) I just go to Personalization menu and uncheck Allow navigation bar and then again go to Gestures and Enable navigation gestures and that's it, no third party apps just basic included gestures which were so great until I found the Instagram problem and had to disable it does anyone know how to fix this problem ? other having the nav bar enabled ?
@Mooatreides helped me and i fixed the problem :
and that's what i did : Installed fluid app Enabled it - disabled "Hide navigation bar" and had "Show bar with soft keyboard" in More Options i switched off Expanded mode , disabled nav bar and build-in gestures- and viola
