Question Mi Pad 5 PRO 5G - just ordered with 'global' rom!!?? - Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro

I’ve just ordered a Mi Pad 5 Pro 5G (‘enuma’) from a seller in China (I have to wait for up to 6 weeks to receive it). They said I could choose between a Global ROM (with many languages & Google but no OTA updates) or a Chinese ROM (stock with English & Chinese, but Google enabled). I chose the Global.
However, looking around online, my understanding is there isn’t such ‘global’ firmware for this model yet. Am I right? If so, the seller must have either (a) sourced a global mod that isn’t available outside China; (b) installed the stock global firmware for the non-pro version (‘nabu’; RKXMIXM). I’ve asked the seller about it, and am still waiting for their answer.
I am concerned, as I am fully intending to root this tablet. For that, I need to get hold of the correct boot.img file. I think I can just check android information on the tablet once I’ve received it. But I thought someone might have been already in a similar situation and had an insight. I’ve tried to find ways to extract the boot.img file from the device, but so far no result (when you don’t have a working TWRP).
Also I was wondering if anyone had installed the stock Chinese ROM over the global ROM (likely for non-pro, but maybe for pro), which I might have to do if I can’t get hold of the boot.img. I used to own Mi Pad 4, and it had a ‘global’ ROM on it when I got it. I THINK at one point I installed the CN ROM on it, but it’s a different device...
I will update it when I have heard from the seller or received the device if anyone’s interested. Meanwhile, any info would be much appreciated!!!
Cheers

It's fake global rom. Not official Xiaomi firmware

You will need the password / sim card of the mi account the seller used to unlock the bootloader before you can Flash any other Rom
Without that, you don't really "own" the device
Would have been safer to take the Chinese version sealed and unlock it yourself

Not really, the seller may not have linked it to the Mi account, if the Chinese version is chosen. Google play can be enabled on stock Chinese version without needing to unlock the bootloader or root.
Definitely agree that getting the sealed Chinese stock version is the preferable option though.
For OP:
Nabu boot.img will not work on enuma. You can download the fastboot Chinese version firmware from Xiaomi and extract the boot.img from there, then root with magisk and flash back by fastboot. Enabling Google services is as easy as adding a google account, rebooting, then finding Play store in all apps and updating it.

Thanks so much everyone! Really appreciated. I've taken your advice and asked the seller to let me have the CN ROM instead. But they have been completely non-responsive. Spoken to CS. Apparently they can't cancel my order once I've paid for it even if it's not been shipped yet (only the seller can). They say I won't have to pay for the return postage to China, though.. anyway I will see how it goes.

Does anyone have a download source for this "fake global ROM"
I'm thinking about ordering the pro because I want the 5G version but it's nearly double the price from my reseller as the regular mi pad 5

Update: so the seller contacted me at last. They were told by their 'Xiaomi agent' that there was no global rom available for Pro yet (yes we knew that...). Sounded like he didn't have any other source. He offered me the Chinese rom... but by that time I didn't have much faith in him so I cancelled my order. Luckily the refund was quickly arranged. I've already ordered another with CN rom from an alternative seller (shop this time) who was cheaper and apparently quicker. Fingers crossed!

I have also ordered the Chinese version pro 5g
I think the xiaomi debloat scripts will work to get rid of 90% of the junk Chinese apps until there is a global ROM

Are we sure that we'll be able to flash global from onto cn device? Sorry, I'm new to Xiaomi stuff

No, we ain't sure yet!
A global ROM doesn't exist for the pro version and the non pro version has different chipset , different camera , different charging board, finger print reader, 5g SIM etc
You might brick it if you flash the regular global on the pro version or lose a lot of functionality even if it does boot

No, I meant flash global ROM for pro version when (or if) it releases onto CN pro device. Flashing non-pro ROM is obviously out of the question

Its a shame, since the Mi Pad 4 and 4 Plus ROMs were interchangable

Mine arrived with the psuedo-global ROM. They promised me it would be 100% English, but it's not. There are still bits of Chinese throughout the interface. I would wait for a real global version unless you have a proven set of instructions for turning the Chinese version English. Another problem - I can't get the Mi Unlock Tool to work. It's likely they already unlocked it to update the ROM and then locked it again. Here's the unhappy image I got when I verified the device on the Xiaomi site:

Revert back to Chinese rom. It's not that bad. I can get everything to work unrooted in stock form.
The only advantage of global ROM would be the alternate languages. You seem to have no problems with the English language so revert back.

HDR would be too dark on pad 5 pro. 1000 nit screens minimum is required for good HDR content in my opinion.
485 nits on the pad 5 pro is horrid for HDR.

I have the same. It is sad that such things are happening and that Xiaomi does not care about us. No Global ROM for a year, a lot of errors in MIUI. I am still sitting on android 11 with fakeMIUI because there is no Polish language on the CHINA ROM and a pure android I do not know how to upload. Massacre. If I knew it would not be like that, I would not buy this model. It is a pity because this equipment is wasted in use.
Do the current ROM releases for MI Pad 5 PRO 5G V13.0.6.0.RKZCNXM have more languages to choose from than Chinese and English?
Do you even know if there will ever be a Global ROM?
I'm sorry for my english.

Important message for the owners of "Global" Redmi K20 Pro

Hey,
I noticed that a lot of people are buying a "global" version of Redmi K20 Pro from Chinese sellers. Such a device comes with pre-installed global ROM with many languages.... but ATTENTION, for now there is no such thing as Global ROM! Chinese sellers unlock the bootloader with their dev account, then they install the remade global rom (most likely coming from non-original sources). One day when the official global ROM comes out, the OTA update will make a brick from the phone (because bootloader will most likely lock or simply the software files will not match).
When the bootloader is blocked, the device must have the same software as it came out of the factory, currently only China ROM. In a few days, the Indian version of Redmi K20 Pro with a different code name - raphaelin - will have premiere. Currently, when you check the fingerprint / code name of your Redmi K20 Pro with fake Global ROM (called trashMIUI) it will turn out that it is raphaelin instead of raphael... This already shows that something is wrong because raphaelin has will be presented in India on July 17.
My advice? If you have a global rom installed on Redmi K20 Pro, first install TWRP and Xiaomi.eu ROM, then stay on it until real global rom will be available! And REMEMBER, never lock your bootloader! If you will do it, the only way to fix it will be flash China ROM using test points.
It is also unknown whether the global rom from the Indian version of the Redmi K20 Pro will be able to be installed on the current Chinese version (there will be different code names).

I've tried them all so far and imo the best features and performance are found at this website. http://portal.mi-room.ru/roms/
Those Russians really know how to fix miui. You can even disable all the remaining useless miui apps right in the apps own info settings menu, so you don't need root or ADB.

Yes, you can do it, but...
Xiaomi.eu is China ROM with installed Google services, with multi-languages and it is debloated
I bought a Global ROM k20 pro before I figuring it wasn't an official ROM
If they opened the bootloader with a dev account. Is this different methode than with the Mi- account unlocking they tell buyers to do? If it isn't would it be possible to link the device to a different account?

So in theory I could flash a Xiaomi.eu ROM and re-lock bootloader, not gonna re-lock bootloader I know it's ill adviced but it's possible with those ROMs?
If you boot up the phone, on splash screen, you see the unlock label, that's great, just install twrp and enjoy any rom that you like. Luckily, you've got a pre-unlock device.
If not, I'll be sorry for that, locked bootloader and custom rom, you just can stay with that bad rom, only the qcom 9008 way can flash with locked bootloader.
I bought the normal China version, I have a question, can I fastboot flash India version rom on my China version phone?

Actually if you get a locked you just have to go through the Xiaomi unlocking process which takes a few days to a week. The bootloader is not permanently locked.

Yes I'm aware of this but I've read instances where people their device was still linked to the retailers MI-account therefore unable to unlock their bootloader that way. Mine will be delivered in 4 days but that's what concerns me the most.

How do you know that? First, India version will be available AFTER 17 July. India version will have different code name (raphaelin) than China version (raphael). Do you install software from Mi 9 on Redmi K20 Pro? Same components, BUT a different code name.

This is a slightly different method because they do not have to wait a week as opposed to an ordinary user. Of course, you can connect your Mi account with the device, but you must allow OEM unlock in the developer settings. Locking a bootloader is not really a good idea. And no, on xiaomi.eu never lock the bootloader. For example, an unlocked bootloader is needed because OTA updates are automatically installed via TWRP. Unlocked bootloader is useful, see what happened to Mi 9SE users - their system displayed a notification that it is destroyed, but thanks to an unlocked bootloader and TWRP you can install everything you want, fix Google Pay, remove MIUI ads, remove junk from the system etc.

There is no need for open gapps. The stock Chinese ROM has Google services already installed. Go to the Mi app store and search for Google. You'll probably not see anything straight away, but will get a pop-up message in Chinese. Click the right button and it will bring up a lot of Google apps, including the Play Store.

time to flash everything...
i just flashed twrp magisk and the rom. rebooted, it took a bit long... i thought i bricked it. but then, tada, everything the same but i had root. there was no reset involved seems the rom is a xiaomi eu rom...
And what if the ofiicial global version never comes out (wich is the most likely option)? What will then be with global ROM users. I ordered Global ROM and really would like someone to make video on youtube or explain steps for installing TWRP and Xiaomi.eu ROM, or what is the best option for us Global ROM users to get most out of phone... If you took the time to look through the K20 Pro forums, there are guides already. This is just a few threads below this one.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k2...-xiaomi-eu-rom-fix-gpay-t3946342/post79859363
The clue is in the title.
Your phone will probably have an unlocked bootloader, so you can ignore the first part of the guide and move straight on to installing TWRP.
You haven't mentioned GPay either, so you can also ignore the last part of the guide.

Redmi K20 Pro - Chinese ROM to Global ROM. Easy as 1,2,3?

Hi guys,
I want to buy a K20/9T Pro from Aliexpress and have noticed that the sellers are offering them with Chinese ROM and, at a higher price, a Global ROM.
Now there Global ROM versions are in fact Chinese versions with some Global ROM flashed on it, resulting in Google Pay not working and what not.
Now my (quick) question.
For someone that has tinkered with custom ROMs in the past..
Can I just buy the (unlocked) Chinese ROM version and simply flash a good Global ROM on it so that everything works well or isn't is as simple like that?
Just want to know if it's worth to save a few ($25-ish) bucks and do it myself or (if it takes 4826 steps) just buy the CN version flashed with Global rom and be done with it..
Yes it's fairly easy if the bootloader is already unlocked you can flash global rom or eu rom easily. There are tons of instructions how to worst case scenario if the bootloader is locked there is a wait but then again if you buy a phone that already has unlocked bootloader and by accident if you lock the bootloader you would need to get the mi account details that was linked with the phone when the bootloader was unlocked which is impossible so get a phone with locked bootloader in my opinion. In my case I imported unlocked bootloader with a fake global rom installed I am extra careful tho when I use mi flash software incase I lock the bootloader by accident
Hey thanks for the heads up, I'll try and find one with a locked bootloader. :good:
To be honest I'm still trying to decide what to get. The 6/128 K20 or the 6/128 K20 Pro. I don't play games or use computing-heavy apps on my phone so
the faster CPU is not really important to me. I'm trying to find out if there are any other noticeable differences (display/camera) between the two models.

They are more or less identical, other than the SoC.
As far as I'm aware there are 2 other differences between then.
First is the main camera sensor. Both have a Sony 48MP sensor that give identical performance, except that the K20 sensor can only record 4K video at 30fps, instead of the 60fps that the sensor in the Pro version can do. This slightly lesser sensor was used because the SD730 can only do 4K video at 30fps, so it was pointless putting in the slightly better sensor.
Second, the K20 only charges at 18W compared to 27W of the Pro version (provided you purchase a separate charger that can charge at that speed)
If you don't care about having the best just for the sake of it and you don't need the excess performance of the Pro, then the regular K20 probably makes more sense, though one thing to consider is that K20 Pro does seem to have more active custom Rom development, if you are someone that likes to put custom ROMs on your phones.

It's pretty easy, but, if you do want to stay with miui global you should consider to buy 9t pro, instead k20 pro, as you can live with it without touching bootloader. that's the price difference that you should analyze... If it is too much for you, buy a Chinese k20 pro with locked bootloader. There's no point to pay more to have same device with a side loaded rom with unknown source...

Hardware, yes... Software, no.
Since you can only lock your bootloader with original region rom, it makes some differences.
K20 pro is Chinese (or Indian) version and comes with Chinese miui OS. If you don't live china, or speak Chinese, certainly you will want to flash global rom (or European), and if you do so, as I said, you have to live with unlocked bootloader. Locking bootloader with rom from another region will brick your device.
In the other hand, if you buy a global VERSION (9T PRO). It will come with global rom AND a locked bootloader, as it design for global market.
Of course, if you have a global version (9t pro) and want to flash a chinese or a Indian rom, you have to unlock your bootloader and, after flashed, can't lock it either. But it is a really rare situation, the common is the other way.
The consequences of having an unlocked bootloader is that some apps can be problematics, usually financial ones (I don't have any, but some people here seems to have it. From my perspective, Indian dudes use to suffer with it most commonly...)
Anyway, you can fix it with magisk... But, at this point you have notice it is like a cat and mouse game (you have to solve potentials problems that it may cause) and many people really don't want to deal with this things. They wants to take it out the box and use it. That is not the case with k20 pro version...
If you look in AliExpress, you gonna see two types of "globals" devices.
There are "K20 Pro with global ROM" and "9t pro global version"...
For customs roms, forget everything I said
As it requires unlocked bootloader anyway, both devices will act identical...

nope , mi 9t pro is a official global set , it has more banding then k20 pro , personally mine country has the required band in k20 pro that why i got it , i cant even bother to unlock it since china rom has been ok so far, suggest you do more research first about your country bands first .
OK, so what I have found (all 6Gb/128Gb models) so far on aliexpress is:
K20 CN ROM: $269, unlocked bootloader
K20 GL ROM: $285, unlocked bootloader
K20 pro CN ROM: $340, unlocked bootloader
K20 pro GL ROM: $349, unlocked bootloader
9T Global: $309, unknown bootloader (seller didn't answer)
9T pro Global: $449, unknown bootloader (seller didn't answer)
I am not sure if every K20 (pro) with CN ROM has an unlocked bootloader but all sellers I asked said that theirs do.
Anyway.. I decided to go with the K20 Pro with Global ROM even tho that would mean the NFC/GPay not working,
the little price difference of $9 isn't worth (imho) the hassle/risk of installing a global rom myself. The price difference
between a K20 Pro and a 9T Pro (a cool $100) is too much for me as I really need NFC/Gpay thát badly.
Decision made, am ordering it next week (before the prices go up for 11/11). Thank you all for your explanations and help. :good:

Chinese phones with a Chinese ROM will probably not come with an unlocked bootloader. Normally with the Xiaomi sellers on AliExpress, if you wanted it unlocked you would need to specifically request it.
Same with the EU phones they sell. They will normally come with the bootloader still locked and still on the original EU ROM.
I would recommend you get the Chinese phone with the Chinese ROM, and ask for it to be sent still factory sealed. Then unlock it yourself and install the global ROM. This way you know the quality of the ROM. Getting it with a global ROM already installed, it probably will be an official global ROM, but there's no guarantee that it will be unmodified. Personally I don't think it's worth the risk that it might have something dodgy injected into it.
Imho, Chinese k20 pro with unlocked bootloader and an
unknown globall rom installed had less value if compared with a chinese sealed and locked bootloader. The reason is: 1) if you unlock your bootloader by yourself, you will have the phone associated to YOUR mi account, what makes it easier to get support if something goes wrong. 2) you will install whatever rom you want, downloaded from xiaomi server (or any custom you want), it's really more safe than use a unknown rom that came with your device...
What people should understand is: unlock bootloader opens your phone to third party and not certificated softwares (and this is what you usually want) but, for the same reason, it makes the device more vulnerable to potentially dangerous softwares. When YOU are unlocking it, you can assure what you are flashing and loading through this way you opened.
When a third person gives you an unlocked device, you cannot be sure what was made before it gets in your hand...
So, it's really better get a locked device and do everything by yourself...
I never gave the unlocked/privacy/mi-account -part much thought to be honest. You guys have a very valid point there.
So what you all are saying is that it is better to buy a "untouched, sealed in box" K20 pro with Chinese ROM, unlock the bootloader (7 days wait) through the xiaomi site, and then flash a Global ROM on it?

Yes thats exactly what I did, I flashed xiaomi.eu rom after I unlocked it and it works like a charm. One of the best purchases I have made this phone
Edit - Also if you buy a CN version with a "fake" global ROM and they somehow managed to lock the bootloader you will run into problems if you wish to flash another ROM that require many steps to fix as mentioned in the lengthy second post in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/redmi-k20-pro-firmware-10-3-8-0-9-6-13-t3939647
So imho stay away from those with a global rom on them.
I have a K20 PRO with bootloader unlocked, can I run a Mi9T PRO ROM on it? After all, they are the same devices.

Yes. Flash a fastboot ROM in the Mi Flash Tool for the region you want (European or global).
Just remember. YOU MUST CHANGE THE DEFAULT FLASH OPTION IN THE MI FLASH TOOL.
If you flash a ROM for a different region to the phone you cannot lock the bootloader. If you use the 'clean all and lock' option you will hard brick the phone. You must change the flash option to 'clean all'.
I have a "noob" question: Will flashing a Mi9T Pro (or custom) ROM on a chinese K20 Pro unlock/reveal the B20 (800mhz) band or is that a hardware thing?

No, flashing ROMs or firmware for different regions will neither enable or disable any bands.

Message on xiaomi site - authentication

Hello, i just bought Xioami mi pad 4 for 150eur in europe, i have been told that its from England.. I tried to verify authetification on xioami site, but it says
"Thank you for choosing Xiaomi!
However, the device you purchased is not an official global version and user experience may be affected. Next time, please purchase the official global version of the device through officially authorized channels."
Can anyone explain what this means? I heavily use tablet for 2 days, and everything is great. Just curious about message..
Also can someonw tell me if ita instaled last version of system?
Thanks in advance.
Mi Pad 4/Plus hasn't Global version. Only China version with xiaomi.eu like ROM.
Many China sellers use fake global MIUI as base system for sold devices. They unlock bootloader and install own rom. You can find some old posts about it and hints to replace this fake rom with any other custom rom or original MIUI. Maybe you have this rom in your tablet.
Xiaomi never offered this mi pad 4 official outside of China.

Question Mi 11 Lite 5G (Japan Global >> Global)

Hi,
I bought a Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G off ebay which was advertised as the Global model but it appears i have the Japanese Global model instead (M2101K9R) whereas the actual Global model is M2101K9G. Would anyone know if it is possible for me to convert this over to the proper RKIMIXM Global ROM (M2101K9G) and keep my bootloader locked in the process by just flashing the fastboot ROM for Global? In other words i would like to fully convert it across to the global M2101K9G model.
i have read that flashing a Global ROM on a device for a different region can brick the phone if the bootloader is then relocked after flashing the Global ROM but wasn't sure if this was more in reference to going from the Chinese version of phone to Global rather then my situation which is going from Global Japan ROM to Global ROM.
I understand I can do this if I kept the bootloader unlocked after the flash but was hoping the bootloader would accept the Global ROM and would still work after relocking the bootloader.
Thanks in advance.
Seeing that i have my Mi account binded to my phone, i will wait another 90 hrs to be able to unlock bootloader and will attempt to answer my own question. Atleast when i relock bootloader after flashing the global ROM and worse case scenario it fails i can unlock the bootloader again and reflash the original Japanese Global MIUI for the device
dont risk your device and instead use "xiaomi eu", that way you can upgrade your device without the risk of locking the bootloader in the process

Hey, since you have the Japanese model, is the camera shutter sound always on? Even if you pick a different region for MIUI? I'm considering the Japanese model and am also curious if it would be possible to convert to Global, though like you said there's a risk of bricking so don't do it if that's a real concern. If you do try it though, let us know how it goes.
Good news, after unlocking my bootloader after 7 day waiting period i was able to successfully flash MIUI Global RKIMIXM ROM. Also relocked bootloader with Xiaomi Flash tool and the bootloader had no issues accepting global ROM.
it should be noted there's been alot of misinformation regarding unlocking/locking bootloaders and changing regions. As long as the first unlocking of bootloader was performed by your own MI account binded to the phone then after 7 day waiting period is over you can unlock/relock bootloader as often as you want immediately with no additional waiting period required. So if you have the issue where you're stuck in recovery after flashing another region ROM and accidentally relocked your bootloader in the process, it's no big deal as you just load phone into fastboot mode and unlock the bootloader again then either keep bootloader unlocked and flash whatever you want or download the proper ROM for your region then flash and relock bootloader again to be back to official stock.
Only thing is model appears to still be detected as M2101K9R in settings. Unsure if this will affect future OTA updates etc. Will provide update when i know more.

It can be muted by setting.(Any ROM/Version/Model)
Setting → Additional Settings → 'Region'
Japan or Korea = Always On
Other = Can be changed from camera settings

I ended up flashing back to Japanese ROM as realistically i had no issues with it. Was more curious to see if i could fully convert it over to Global ROM but it seems the model number as shown in Settings is hard coded perhaps in the bootloader or somewhere else and still displayed M2101K9R so i wasn't comfortable using the M2101K9G global ROM.
As for the camera shutter sound on Japanese ROM i just checked and there was a setting in the camera app itself (Camera>Settings>Shutter Sound) and you can toggle it off to silence the shutter sound.
Please, did you notice any difference between the Global ROM and the Japanese ROM? I mean in terms of settings, speed, battery etc.

I am a Japanese user using Mi 11 Lite 5G. The difference in hardware is that it is equipped with Felica, a near-range wireless communication standard developed by Sony. This is used in Japan for payments on public transportation and in stores. The difference in the software is that it takes a long time for software updates to be delivered. As the ROM is optimized for Japan, it takes longer to receive updates than the global version.
I also have japanese version but I am from México and I am using xiaomi.eu beacuse of the publicity from xiaomi stock roms, and it works flawless and felica is not used in my country so, I am fine, but... One friend of mine has the chinese global version and the cameras look sooo diferent, better in Jaoan version, even video 60fps has more stabilization. Just to say.

Question Hi. Where can I find a tutorial to flash roms on my Mi Pad 5 Pro Wifi ?

Good morning
I bought a Mi Pad 5 Pro Wifi version (without 5g) by ebay and it arrived with the bootloader unlocked and a global rom with my language (Spanish). I know it is not an official rom from Xiaomi. The problem is that it does not support OTA updates.
I would like to find some help about where I can find roms like the global one I have and instructions to flash it, or instructions to flash the CN version if needed, or Lineage OS .
Thank you very much for your help.
@radriarevlo Try this ROM. My device is Mi Pad 5 Pro 5G. I've flashed GSI ROMs but got many problems with hardware. So it's best for now to stick with Stock ROM which is CN version. With CN stock ROMs, I can still read and write in my local language by using Gboard. But the UI can be only Enlish or Chinese. No worry about Google Play Store. You can install it easily with GetApps that comes with the stock ROMs.
