Hi,
I am using fingerprint sensor and smart unlock but several times a day and every morning the phone is manually locked and I have to enter my pin again. Is there a setting I am missing here?
same here. also it keeps asking pin through the day!
also I'd appreciate if I won't need to confirm pin once is entered correctly (just numbers then unlock instantly)

Is it that your phone is rebooting? There have been people reporting random reboots with their devices ..

Thats true, the extra confirming is annoying as hell...I think smart lock introduced this issue, so I will try to turn it off for now...

I have not noticed any reboots yet but I dont think that the problem. I still see notifications on the lock screen. I believe that would not be the case if the phone rebooted.

Smart lock relocks after 4 hours of inactivity and apparently defaults to PIN or Pattern, not FP.

That explains it, but it is not smart at all :-/

Doesn't seem to matter whether it's active or inactive. It seems to re-lock and require a PIN every 4 hours.
Extremely annoying. SmartLock on my Samsung phone didn't behave like that.
Disabling smart lock fixed it for me, make sure are smart lock triggers are gone

So now it is always locked and the FP is the default? I like having it unlocked at Trusted Places for 4 hours better.

I might just try this. I used smartlock on my Galaxy s20 FE because the fingerprint sensor was way down at the bottom and was difficult to reach, so I would just press the power button and swipe up on the screen.
However, I discovered with the Pixel 6, that when it's smart locked, if you just touch the fingerprint sensor icon, it turns on the screen and opens the phone. (without it actually triggering the fingerprint sensor) No pressing the power button or swiping required.
So I've started getting into the habit of just pressing the fingerprint icon anyway, even when it's unlocked with smartlock. So, as long as the fingerprint sensor is reliable enough, I don't really need the smart lock. I would be doing the same motion to unlock it with the fingerprint. (Although it will be a little slower and possibly a bit more unreliable)
Well, I don't think it's smartlock related. I turned off smartlock a half hour ago and used the fingerprint sensor to unlock it several times since then, and then a couple of minutes ago, it forced me to enter the PIN. Almost exactly 4 hours after the last time I had to enter a PIN.
I was wondering exactly the same... it's a weird behavior.
I think it may be a 'feature'. A fingerprint is considered somewhat less secure by Google. Ironic, given on a P6 it seems to lock folk out a lot of the time!
Understand fingerprint security - Pixel Phone Help
Your fingerprint data is stored securely and never leaves your Pixel device or Nexus phone. Your fingerprint data isn't shared with Google or any apps on your device. Apps are notified only wheth

As you say, annoying though.

Did you reboot the phone after changing the smartlock setting? Perhaps the phone has held onto that setting in memory.
i am having the same nightmare here. Considering i am wearing gloves most of the time, i need to usesmart unlock. but then every few hours i need to type pin, plus i need to press entre. it really breaks flow here

Smart lock resets every four hours, which requires you to enter your PIN to unlock for another four hours.
Confirming a pin makes it more secure, as now the number of digits in your pin is also hidden. In theory, this would make a 4 digit as secure a as 10 digit one as a potential thief would not know which to try.

Hi, I would know if you have this issue too.
My fingerprint sensor works well, no problem about the speed or recognition.
But, often, it just wont work, I mean there is the vibration but it wont unlock the phone, at the bottom there is: can not use the fingerprint (I don't know in english it's in french).
I have to unlock with my code or layout. I lock again and now it works!
It works for a moment, and maybe one hour later it doesn't work again I have to unlock manually to make it work again.
Try removing and re-adding your fingerprint, make sure you scan all parts of your finger.
It is not recognising your finger as often as it should.
I have a same problem. If I turn off/restart my phone the fingerprint stop working. I must re-adding or again restart the phone to start work again. But if working, he work good until next restart. Sometimes after turn off/restart he continues to work. I think it has its own opinion when to work and when not
When I say there is an issue, it's not about the recognition.
When it doesn't, the screen don't turn on and double vibration, it's ok.
But sometimes, the screen turn on, and just say that is not possible to use fingerprint (with one vibration)
I just deleted and set again my fingerprint, and the problem is still here.
So it recognize my fingerprint (screen on and one vibration) but doesn't want to unlock, just say it's not possible to use fingerprint..
This happens to me only first time after reboot.
I think that's a security, and a will from LG. So it's not a bug, it's a feature

yes I think that happen when the state change, like wifi, BT or other.
But it's annoying when it happens 20 times per day.
I hope I'll be able to change that with root..

As others have said. I think it's a security feature that makes you use the lock code after a reboot. My G5 does the same things as well as my iPhone 5S.
As for the fingerprint scanner misfiring. I noticed that while I'm using the always on display. When I first take the phone out of my pocket. It takes a second for the always on display to pop up. It seems like the fingerprint won't read my print until that display pops on.
You're issue sounds a little different. I'd just figure I'd mention some of my findings.
I just want to remember that my issue is not about a reset. But all day long.
So at this moment I'm the only one who have this issue.
(I also have the 10c update and issue still here)
Thanks for your replys anyway.
I get it about 2 or 3 times a week & like you, not after a reboot. It works again after pin entry.
Strange but infrequent enough not to bother me.

If in future you actually face any fingerprint sensor issue then this link would help you:

so with the update to MM I'm finally able to use the fingerprint unlock with a case, but either I missed something or it's still somewhat annoying to use. after booting up I need to enter a password, which I'm okay with, however after using my device for a bit and letting it go to lock there are times where I need to re-enter my password instead of the fingerprint and this is without rebooting. is this normal?
EDIT: so I came across a few places that mention the use of Nova Launcher or 3rd party lockscreen apps... I don't have any of the latter, but I do have Nova Launcher except I'm not using that to lock my screen. am I missing something here?
It will do that I believe as a default. You can set up a smart place, like home, on your person, whatever, and it won't lock with a password. I use it on mine for the house, and certain devices it connects to.

I believe there may be an issue now... I just unlocked my device using the fingerprint and I have my device set to lock after 10 minutes. Less than 10 minutes after my screen goes off I wake up my device with a double tap and it's locked, prompting for a password!
I am on US Sprint...
The fingerprint seems to be totally random, sometimes it lets me unlock phone with it....then other times it makes me use PIN...
I use Smart locks at Home/Bluetooth head set
Those dont seem to work all the time even at home. Is this is flaw? I have the auto lock set at 1min after screen goes off, but if I am on a Smart lock shouldnt it unlock without anything?
Any ideas on what is conflicting this?
I have a problem with my May update Oreo install on a Xiaomi MIA1. I did a clean install of the OS and installed all apps and data back to the phone.
I have set up the fingerprint scanner and pattern. I now find that every time I unlock with the fingerprint scanner, The first press wakes the screen and shows the lock screen. The second fingerprint scan brings up a screen with the pattern and the words "Pattern Required After Device Restarts." as if I have just rebooted the phone. Although I have not rebooted the phone.
I know that I get asked to add my pattern (or PIN if that is set) the first unlock after reboot. It is like Android continually thinks I have just rebooted the phone when I have not.
I have noticed if I delete all lock functions, then reset the Pattern or Pin and the fingerprint, fingerprint does unlock the phone on the first few attempts and then goes back to not locking it without changing any settings.
I set up a new user, set up the fingerprint and pattern and the fingerprint also worked for a few times, then stopped working.
I do not have a third party launcher or lock screen loaded.
The fingerprint unlock was working fine before I clean installed and I think was initially working for a day or so after install.
I am aware that you must enter your pattern or PIN on rebooot... This is not what I am talking about.
Under Settings > Security and Location > Device Admin Apps only Find My Device and Outlook Device Policy is listed. Both apps are unticked.
I have no third party launcher or locking app loaded.
Can someone offer some guidance on how to fix this issue? Surely I am not the only person who has seen this issue. All other searches on the net refer to 3rd party launchers and that is not the issue I have.
Well it seems I am the only person on the web that has ever had this issue. I did a full hard reset and the issue is gone.

No it's just that oem is not very popular here and those that do develop for them would never add their finger prints to it.
Please help, my Huawei requies after succesfull face recognition unlock still slide to unlock with finger, even if I checked in system settings Direct unlock feature under security option. Week ago everything was OK, now direct unlock not working. Any ideas? Thank You!!!
It does that when the face unlock and fingerprint unlock conflict with each other. It happens to me sometimes.
Just try not to use both at the same time by accident. I set my face unlock to only unlock when I'm looking irectly at it.
Thank You, bazanime, disabling fingerprint unlock solved my problem. But it is still strange to me, untill now (few days ago) both unlocking methods worked together...
Thanx again for help
This happen to me when i have finger print snd face unlock activate, and try to unlock with finger print and fail. In that case always recognise mi face but I have to swipe up to unlock 100%, dont know why either

You're welcome, Happy to help. Though I wouldn't turn off fingerprint unlock because it still good, just in case your face is not recognised. Just use the face mostly.

Try the following solutions to resolve the issue:
go to your Settings > Reset > Reset all settings . This will reset all settings, no data or documents will be deleted. Reboot your phone into recovery mode (press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously ) and use it to delete cache partitions (select Wipe cache partition) . Finally select Reboot system now.
Good Luck
Try turning off do not distrurb
It only does that to me when I lift my phone and it doesn't initially unlock with my face, so I mash my thumb onto the screen only to get blinded by the icon showing around the edges of my thumb putting out more lumens than Tsar Bomba, which triggers an epilectic fit of apoplectic rage during which I smash the phone repeatedly into my face and attempt to put either of my thumbs *through* my phone over and over again. That's the only time I see that.
This was hapening to me too !
My mate 20 pro always worked with facial recognition every time but recently worked intermittently, I tried all the usual reset and wipe cache partition, then I thought that the only thing I had changed recently was that smart lock and trusted place was on as I noticed that away from home facial recognition would work but at home it would say 'smart lock recognition successful slide to unlock' even though the phone was set to direct unlock - changed it, now problem it solved so maybe check this.
Update 9.1 solve this issue .. now it is much faster
I already updated to 9.1 but problem still existed, smart lock and turn off trusted place was definitely my problem.
The earlier mentioned "smart lock at trusted place" will ruin the face unlock.
NOTE: Even if the smart lock is OFF, it will interfere if you have some location saved and you are trying to use the face unlock in there. So you need to delete the "trusted place" from the smart location.
Simply turning off Bluetooth worked for me
