[Request] Root Galaxy Tab A 2016 (SM-T585) without data cable - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So either my Tablet doesn't work or all the cables in my house don't have data transfer, but I have a sd card and I wondered if I can use that to root my Tablet, since in the recovery mode you can choose update from sd card

Buy a new cable and look into how to get into download mode and have drivers installed on your computer to root

Option "update from sd card" offered in recovery can't be used to root your tablet's Android: you use this to apply offical OS updates provided by OEM.
BTW:
Even if you find a script that would "root" your tablet's Android you will probably be unable to directly execute such a script from your sdcard. Reason is, with most ROMs sdcards are mounted using the noexec flag - which means, as the term suggests: "no execution from here".

[Q] Cyanogen on HD2?

I currently possess an HD2 I have installed android from the dark force team 2.2 my phone seems to be functioning fine however I would like to put Cyanogen on my device. I downloaded the package for it and saved it on my desktop however to port it onto my phone would require me to access my sd card via the computer and ever since i got android i am incapable of accessing my sd card. So how can I put cyanogen on my sd card and is there another way to go about this since the froyo is permanet on my phone?????
Well the easiest way of doing this is to get yourself a USB micro SD card reader and put your SD card into it and copy the ROM to your SD card. Then put the SD card back into hour HD2 and flash the ROM using MAGLDR.
Now your other option is to download a custom Windows Mobile ROM. Then put your HD2 into bootloader by turning the phone off and then hold the vume down button down and press the power button. Keep holding the volume down button down until you see the muticolor bootloader screen. Next connect your HD2 via USB cable to the computer and wait for the Serial in the white bar of the bootloader screen to change to USB and for your computer to show it recognizes your HD2 (this should happen almost simotamiously). Then you can flash the Windows Mobile ROM. you can then use your phone to access your SD card and then use MAGLDR to flash the Andriod ROM.
Also I was thinking about putting gingerbread cyanogemod7 on it since its newer. Is there a nand for it I am having trouble finding one?
If you want to know about Android on the HD2 why are you asking these questions in the Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A forum
You are much better off using the relevant forum, firstly to read the guides and then second to ask questions, I say second because 9/10 your question has already been asked and answered or covered in the sticky threads

[Q] Newbie: USB programming

I'm completely new to mobile phone development but am a very experienced programmer in C++.
I want to write an android app that can copy the contents of one external USB memory card to another external memory card.
From what I can understand from my reading so far I'll need a phone that can host USB devices (OTG) which seems to limit the number of phones I could use.
From the software side of things, would such an application require any special permissions to write to an external USB device? If so how are these permissions gained, I've read about rooting but this seems a pretty brutal method.
There seem to be quite a few initial hurdles to creating this app. I don't own an android phone yet and don't want to end up with a phone I can't write this app on.
Any advise / tips would be much appreciated.

USB mass storage

Has anyone been able to update the drivers for their phone so they can transfer music and stuff to the internal storage?
I am not able to update my drivers using HTC Sync, I believe it has something to do with me being on Windows 8. But I'm not really sure.

[Q] Need help on connecting YP-G1 to PC

I can't connect my YP-G1 to pc after installing CM 10. I have tried to reinstall the drivers and also reinstalled Kies and still can't get it to work. Does anybody have any idea why this is or have a solutions.
Thanks
It's fast charge enabled? If not, the SD cards may be switched.

I read on google that fast charge is in performance tab and I don't see it. I'm pretty sure that terrasilent 1.3.5 doesn't support fast charge.
You may have to switch the external and internal SD cards. The same thing happened to me when I I upgraded on CM 10.1.
Go in settings, storage, menu button, connect to computer, select either MTP or USB mass storage.
Hope it helps! Also next time, ask this to the Q&A thread.
