Screen/Display drains battery horribly while being switched off! - Redmi Note 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
I am using this ROM on my RM Note 2 prime ATM since I need some newer Android version than MIUI on this phone offers (5.0) especially for several apps that are necessary these days but need newer ROMs.
But for whatever reason the display battery is draining horribly during night while everything is switched off (13%/hr)! Could not identify the problem yet. Any idea about where to dig in or where to check for root causes? Already using GSAM Battery Monitor + Naptime and PIE internal aggressive battery saving settings but no success. In addition I deactivated lots of background apps and services I do not need but with no effect too.
In addition Kernel drains some battery according to GSAM but for the listed services I could not find yet anything to decide upon what to deactivate. In addition the wakelock blocker of this ROM shows me lots of entries but I also could not yet find any explanation or hints here or in the web which of those I can safely deactivate. Any idea, hint, link or tip highly appreciated.
Any help, hint, idea etc. highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Battery usage only displaying standard processes

Hello,
I am on XXLPQ 4.0.3 with Siyah Kernel. Lately I noticed that the battery usage details do not show any apps anymore, but only "standard processes". For example I am playing a game or using google navigation for some hours, which uses a lot of battery, but the battery monitor then only shows display 83%, although a lot of battery was used not by the display being on but by a certain app.
I am not sure when exactly this started, but I do remember that I saw a lot of different apps in the battery view, now it is only display, calls, android system and so on.
Does anyhone have a clue what could be the reason and how to "fix" this?

This happens because the standard Android battery monitor is far from reliable.
Download Better battery stats (paid but free on XDA) or GSam battery monitor (free, paid) if you need accurate battery monitor

just check once, by wiping battery stats in recovery then do fixpermissions reboot the phone and see afterwards the same
Thanks, I wiped battery stats and fixed permissions, but unfortunately that did not change a thing, still only seeing the same 5 processes in the battery overview.
I know better battery stats and also use that to check for wakelocks, but I'd still like to use the built-in funcitonality for a quick overview.
Any other ideas?

If you are bent in using the inbuilt battery monitor, the only solution is by updating your kernel to latest version or Changing the kernel to another
Good luck

[Q] Google services - high data usage = battery drain

Hi, I have a stock i9300, rooted.
About 3 days ago, I noticed that my device, which normally gets through a day comfortably, was running out of juice by early afternoon.
I've checked the data usage meter and it shows that Google Services is doing something with data constantly. It's not a lot of data (500MB over 7 days) but it's enough to keep my "H+" showing data uploading and downloading all the time, which is not normal behaviour.
As a result of this, the battery is running dry. Even when plugged in, the charging isn't keeping up and eventually the battery runs out, and I have to leave the phone off for a bit to recharge.
I have since turned off background data for Google Services, and I'm hoping this works, although I don't know what I'm going to lose in terms of functionality as a result of doing that.
But I'd like to know what the problem is and why this has suddenly happened as it's really bugging me. Hoping someone else has experienced this. I have searched for other threads on this topic, all refer to battery drain but I don't seem to have the same issue. If I look at my battery stats I'm not seeing Google Services at the top of the list like others. Mine is more to do with data.
Cheers,
Pete
I cant answer why or what it is, but one thing I did notice wasted a lot of battery for me (other than google now of course) was the google backup. You know the one you tick when you first go through the set up wizard on the phone? "Backup this device with google".

hi,
if you have various system or user apps wakelocks, first do a monitoring it with your favorite battery monitor and analysis tool to details.
gmail, google services, backup, sync contacts, other syncs google plus, etc, localization services, call direct or indirectly other apps, bringing more wakelocks (partial, kernel, network - your case I think) ... and more battery drains ... facebook is a classic example ... hungry app
Wakelocks - read it ... enlight your questions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Wakelocks
to monitorate and analyse the battery consumption, drain, and wakes use BetterBatteryStats - bbs
[APP][2.1+][16 Apr. - V1.13.4] BetterBatteryStats - thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
you can use traditional battery savers (i didn't recommend)
I do use greenify together with bbs (paid app - to full hibernate and extras, but very good - the "engine" is different, doesn't kill or freeze, but hibernate system (need root) or users apps. @oasisfeng created a smart and reliable engine - support him
[APP][3.1+] Greenify *ROOT* v1.85 beta 6 (Updated on Jun.6)

increase my battery and decrease unnecessary wakelocks ... excellent results ...

[Q] S4 1545 on Verizon Battery Issue

Ok so for the life of me I cant figure out why my battery is draining so fast its literally draining about 10% an hour if not more. If tried a bunch of different tools to try and monitor it but nothing is really standing out as a main culprit. I recently had my phone replaced and I had them send a new battery just for the heck of it. Also I even tried putting Hyperdrive Roms on my phone and that did not help. So I debating on whether to go back to stock and just root and see what happens again after just removing bloatware.
I tried looking up battery tips but really haven't found anything recently. I only got my phone in May of this year. Any suggestions or links would greatly help I love my phone but cant stand the battery life. I miss my Droid Razr Maxx

Not sure but I think its a Kit Kat issue. I recall having more battery life on JB than on Kitkat with my S4.
There are lots of things you can do.
System Settings
•WiFi - change sleep policy from ALWAYS (staying on) to either "Only when plugged in" or "never"
•Account Sync - under my Google account(s) I only keep CONTACTS and GMAIL checked...the rest unchecked
•Motions, Smart Features, Gestures, Air - Turn ALL of this crap off!
•Animation Scaling- In Developer Options - I use these settings: Window Animation=OFF/ Transition Animation=0.5x/ Animator Duration=0.5x
In-App Settings
•Play Store - In settings, change Auto-Update Apps to Never...you can do this manually from time to time. If not, it'll just always scan.
•App Ops - This can be a little tedious, but go through your apps (especially under Location) and turn location off on whatever you think doesn't need it! You may want to test out each app to be sure it is functioning properly before you move on to the next app. This makes it much easier to go back and enable it again if you see its needed. Most of the Google apps are gonna need it.
Freeze or Uninstall System Apps
•Check out my thread on which system apps you can remove here
***I recommend using NoBloat to make your changes with:good:
Additional apps & Xposed modules to check out
•Greenify - Hands down my favorite battery saving app. If you don't know it, that's why your battery life sucks! Seriously though, GET IT!
•Greenify Donation (Xposed) - Adds several more features, such as allowing system apps to be greenifiable! Also works well with WakeLock Detector
•WakeLock Detector - Helps determine which apps are waking up your phone while its asleep...allows you to prevent future wakeups.
•Gsam Battery Monitor Pro - Not sure if the free version lets you use the monitoring feature or not, but basically it is like a glorified battery usage graph (like in system settings)
•BootManager - Xposed module allowing you to select which apps are able to run in startup. Not sure how it compares with Greenify, but I just use both
•Prevent Running - Also similar to Greenify. I'm in the process of checking this one out, so don't hold me to it being great.

This is good info thanks. I am doing most of it such as Greenify, etc. Wakelock Detector I have no clue how to use though. I open it up and its like chinese to me any tips on using that? I did not realize the play store is always scanning for updates...interesting. The only thing I see disturbing is that security is the thing I see most used even after shutting the phone off and turning it back on in Usage Timelines. I am rooted and Knox is disabled so im wondering what is causing the high usage on this.

WakeLock detector works great for exactly what you're trying to figure out. Check out the WakeLock guide, it'll show you exactly what it's role is. Once you have it installed, you will sometimes see a scissors icon in Greenify when you have something listed under NOT hibernating or pending...click it! You'll see the option for Greenify to "cut-off" the process chain...this prevents further wakeups from what had specifically started up the process. I highly recommend you take a look at gsam battery monitor (I think that's the name), it will also give you details on which processes are killing your battery.
I am not positive but I think you can disable that security process without any issue. You may want to Google that though.

Short answer...WakeLock only detects, you decide what you need to STOP from there. But there are apps that can utilize WakeLock to detect those battery killers and stop, freeze or remove processes or apps for you...such as Greenify.
Also, I can't stress enough how worth it it is to buy Greenify's experimental features, as it will allow you to get deeper into the whole Greenifying thing!! Hell yes it does:good:

Yes I pretty much have everything that people have suggested including the experimental version of Greenify. I am running Wakelock Detector, GSAM Battery Monitor, Usage Timelines.
However I am still seeing this Security Process running at about 6% and about 82.45 MB. I am not really experiencing any drain when the phone is sleeping.

Can u post a screenshot of gsam's monitor section? Its the part that has the list of usage...looks similar to the battery monitor screen in Android settings.

what are the best app to check app and services what kill battery life?

HI to all.......
i recently bought a lenovo K920 vibe z2 pro that i fully modded with lots of xposed modules.
This is my first attempt to mod an android phone, my first root, but i readed A LOT OF pages during years.......
But, hey let me know if i installed the best app used to check my battery drain. My lenovo seems to be quite power hungry also in indle mode........ and i precise that cpuSPY app read normal deep sleep times, like 80%, 90%....
i uninstalled system built in app ( lenovo) , that did have some strange low consuption modes..... because i only wanna use "regular" method to preserve my battery life, and not the built in od my phone
so then i installed:
WakelockDetector and seems to be quite good but i can't fully understand the differences between partial wl, screen, cpu.... wakeup triggers.... english is not my native language( i'm italian) but i think it' is more a (missed) skill problem....
battery stats plus but interface is not completely clear to me.....
betterBattery stats but it does not work!!! why? i found an xposed module that is supposed to make it working but it only shows semy information, not completed. the app is inusable. could you help me?
..................and in the end, what's the best app to use?
i think that wakelock detector interface is the best one, with nice interface and you can see how many times ( Xnnnn) a wakelock is attempting to disturb battery life.
i will hear yor suggestions, did i miss other good apps? Ah i installed greenify DONATION (i paid) but i still don't setted the app, i firtly want to understand 100% what and how to do things...... how could i choose the best app to "greenify" ? . i read that it's not advisable to freeze lots of apps.....but just some. ok but which? is there a simple list of apps that are 100% SURE to be frozen?
ONE LAST IMPORTANT THING
my smartphone battery arrived with about 0 / 3% battery life ( i i know that lithium should not be stored for much time empty...but i supposed it was a fresh stock, so no damaged battery)
could this be the reason for my bad battery life( it does also go down very fast in my opinion, not only idle but when i use apps.....)? ...too bad i can't change it, it's integrated.
i bought 2 lenovo k920... one for me and the other for a friend. His battery life seems to be BETTER THAN MINE:......... and he uses whatsapp and facebook. ( his battery arrived charged to 40% when i received the smartphone)
i don't use facebook but use whatsapp, have a MIBAND connected and i use pushbulled and WEBwhatsapp.
Check out "Amplify" on the play store. It is the best on my opinion. It will give you control over all wake lock's and alarms. Pared with "greenify" automatically hibernating background apps after use gives great battery savings. There is also alot of information regarding both online. I hope this helps!

[Q] wakelocks: how to identify which app is calling a given process?

I am having lots of issues (have had to reset it 3 times over the last 10 days!) with my Sony Z3 running KitKat, but I am posting here as I see this as a generic, non-Sony specific question.
I am rooted and use BetterBatteryStats and Wakelock detector to identify partial wakelocks. I have had to reset the phone 3 times over the last 10 days because of mysterious processes locking the CPU, draining the battery, overheating the phone, and also because the play store stopped working (always stuck at 'download pending').
My question is: I can use these (and other apps) to find the services which are causing wakelocks, battery drain, etc, but is there any way to find which apps invoked the services?
If I find that app X is misbehaving, well, I will try changing the settings of that app, or consider removing it. But if I find the battery drain is caused by, say, google’s location service, that’s not particularly useful because a number of different apps may have called it. Was it a wether app? A public transport app? Was it just Android going nuts? That piece of information is basically useless because it doesn’t tell me which app is the problem.
Thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
