There are so many varients of the SM-G925, all with a letter at the end, I am looking for a Edge that will work on AT&T , I want one with an unencrypted boot loader.
What version should I get. I bought one on Ebay it said it was a SM-G925 (with nothing at the end) is this even a model, or am I going to get something else you think?
Ps. it says its factory unlocked, but I am not sure what frequencies and modles go together.
please assist.. thank you
Yes there are many SM-G925_ models, where the letter _ changes depending on network.
I'm in Japan with a softbank 404sc phone, the SM model is SM-G925z.
If you wait until it arrives, you can go through the boot loader steps here ( search google for galaxys6root highonandroid how to root s6 edge), without downloading anything until you get to an aqua-blue screen which will tell you the model.

If you care about good signal reception, without doubt get SM-G9250. It's modem and bands it supports is superior to any other variant. I had slower and worse connect with G925F.
i have a galaxy mega gt i9152 dual sim international phone. im runnin an att compatible straight talk sim, i have service, but mobile network type says edge2. really slow data. i have the correct apn settings. ive even been to att and they tried one of their sim cards and still couldnt figure it out. if i select gsm/wcdma auto connect it will show the high speed data logo but the data dont work at all, if i dial #*#*4636*#*# it says wcdma preffered, but im usin gsm networks, it wont let me change it to anything besides gsm only, but then its stuck on edge again. theres some other secret menu i tried to get into debug mode where there is supposudly a setting to lock it to 2g or 3g but when i dialed it just said USSD code running, and then displayed my phone number. it was rooted and unlocked when i got it, i flashed it with stock firmware, still had the same issue, i tried a few different countries of firmware, no difference, currently running the uae jellybean stock firmware. i tried calling samgsung and they said i have to call the country of orgin which i guess is india, so i got an international calling card that i guess cant make toll free international calls. so im at a roadblock, i know its gotta be something stupid but i cant figure it out, been messin with it for 2 weeks and searching forums till my eyes bleed, so im makin my own thread now.
so now that ya know my situation, what do i do, how do i get my fone to work on 3g
Hey,
I don't know if this is too device specific, but I have a Samsung Galaxy S8+ (SM-G955U). It was originally AT&T, though I got it unlocked the day I purchased it. I use it with T-Mobile now, and I never was able to update my phone since I switched. Turns out, it was because you can only do so using AT&T activated SIM cards. Literally had to get a prepaid to update it.
My questions is: Since I have an unlocked phone and use it with T-Mobile, is it possible for me to flash T-Mobile's firmware updates to my phone without consequence instead of having to get an AT&T SIM card every time to get their firmware?
I did some research, but was not able to come up with a definitive answer. It would really save me a lot of trouble if such is possible.
If not, any other way I can update without having to get through AT&T's prepaid SIMs?
Really would appreciate any help given. This has been driving me insane.
Thanks!
Hi all, I just bought a new Samsung S9 plus 256gb US version unlocked from Samsung's website and I have TMobiles unlimited one plan. The Sim card I got was in my old ZTE Blade V8 Pro unlocked (you can probably guess why I bought a new phone). After putting the SIM card in the new phone for about a few hours it was a night and day difference where places I tested my LTE speed was 30mbs verses 6-8 on the old phone and the internet loaded quicker.
However, later in the day I started getting no connection or slow speeds and sometimes got edge+ connections in places where even my crappy V8 Pro would get connections. I called TMobile and gave them my phone's emei number and the Sim number that I used. At first it worked better but I still get less bars of reception and there are times when it takes a while for a LTE connection when there is no wifi. I even get LTE+ and it will still load some things like twitch streaming slow.
Someone suggested flashing TMobile firmware to the phone to try help connecting to their network like their branded phone's, but I have no idea what file to download for TMobile firmware for Odin to flash. Also, would it help to get updates from TMobile faster? People who have a TMobile sold S9+ are getting the new delayed update but my unlocked phone isn't. Thanks for your time.
I can say with a great deal of confidence that flipping firmware will not resolve this problem. It sounds like a hardware issue to me.
OK, so I was with T-Mobile forever, and I bought this phone from them at launch. I decided to switch over to MetroPCS by T-Mobile because it's cheaper, so I paid off my phone then unlocked it (Even though I didn't need too, the Metro SIM worked in it before I unlocked it).
It worked fine for two weeks, and I had WiFi calling and everything, and then the RJ5 (I believe?) update came out, and when my phone booted up it said new sim detected, and WiFi calling was gone. My APN settings were set to MetroPCS', so I set it back to the T-Mobile one since it's essentially the same network, but the WiFi calling option is *completely* gone; it's not there, trust me. I call MetroPCS support and they said they can't enable it for devices that weren't bought from them, and I tried to argue like sure you can, send it up to a higher level support team, but I could hardly understand her and gave up.
I went into a MetroPCS store and they had a spare T-Mobile SIM, popped it in, boom WiFi calling was back.
Come OneUI Pie update one, I opt in and update, and voila, WiFi calling is back!
I just downloaded the second update last night, and now it's gone again. This **** is driving me crazy, if anyone can help me figure out a way to fix this I will love you forever.
Wow, that was a gripping good yarn! I think there's a good chance that if you switch to the unlocked G965U1 firmware, it might work. I have an unlocked Verizon S9+ running on TMO, and once I flashed it to U1, wifi calling and volte worked automatically. I'm not positive how it will be with Metro but it is worth looking into. When you flash the collect unlocked firmware, when the phone boots up it will detect your sim and then reboot and configure all the settings for you.
P.S. I don't suppose there's Metro firmware out there?
I don't think there's Metro firmware, because my updates still come from T-Mobile. T-Mobile owns Metro. So what you're saying is flash the firmware via Odin and my phone would be like truly unlocked and I would get updates from Samsung rather than T-Mobile? I don't want to go through all this if it isn't a a certain fix, but sadly there's no way to tell that.

For some carriers, the Wifi calling requires the phone to have carrier firmware. Verizon is one. I bought my 9+ from Samsung unlocked, and it didn't have wifi calling on Verizon until I reflashed the phone (using Patched ODIN) to a Verizon firmware and Wifi calling works... as does the Verizon bloat, but most of that can be disabled with Package Disabler pro or similar app.

I don't think MetroPCS has it's own firmware for the s9+. Plus, they're owned by T-Mobile now. The plan I'm on is called MetroPCS by T-Mobile lol. This is driving me nuts.

Out of curiosity I read around a little bit and it seems to be really hit and miss, which definitely seems to match up with your experience. I did find this post on Reddit from someone saying they got Wi-Fi calling to work with a Metro Sim: https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/co...g_volte_not_working_with_metropcs_sim/cymnvhf
Have you come across that, tried any of that?

I have not, thanks for the link, I shall try that. Funnily enough, there was a hotfix pushed out last night and WiFi calling not working was on that list. I now have the WiFi calling icon in the notification bar, and it shows like it's on, but it doesn't actually work, and me pressing it does nothing. The setting itself still isn't in connections or anywhere in the settings. This is so dumb, lol.
