General December Update Delayed - Google Pixel 6

Google Pixel Update - December 2021 - Google Pixel Community
Perhaps December 13th.

Was not expecting this. What a treatment for new phone.

Pretty sad that the latest flagship is updated last. Maybe some of this was already included in the off-cycle one for the fingerprint scanner?

They are probably just working on some Pixel 6-specific stuff, I would imagine. Rather wait a week or 2 and have some more things addressed and/or get things right than wait until the January update.

I just went down the list, and a number of the improvements/fixes are exclusive to the 6 and 6 pro. Here is the list:
Apps

Exactly, there is no rush. The November update is working good.
And you will always get people that think the world owes them everything like a spoiled ten year old.
(Mommy, I want my update now, now, now.)

Sounds like next week we'll get the update.

I'm surprised that no Samsung details are listed are listed.

Plus, I'm legitimately shocked by the number of people who seem to think that it would be acceptable -- perhaps even desirable -- for Google to prioritize updates on its new phone over older phones.
To my mind, delaying the update on the 6 until it's completely ready is quite defensible. But delaying updates on older phones to focus on the 6 would be entirely indefensible.

Google should never have shipped the phone with so many core features broken.

Why, Google has been doing this every year it releases a new OS. The average tweek, bug fixes are about three months after releasing the OS.
Crapple does the same thing.
Buy a LG, Samsung, etc.. And then you will really have something to complain about.
How many updates does Samsung have?

I'm not as disappointed in the issues that need to be fixed as I am for the delay in the ones that are already fixed and not rolled out yet. Why not have 2 updates a month for a new device? Obviously, it's needed seeing the mid Nov update, so why not December as well. Of the 100 fixes I'm sure at least a large percentage of them are ready so why wait?
I just came upon this seeing the proximity sensor issue I have on the P6 while in a call. It doesn't work correctly and there is a fix for it now. Why wait? Why not 2 updates / month for a new device or as many as needed. If this is indeed their flagship device then treat it as such.

Overhead of testing & releasing at such a high frequency I presume. We would be the first complain about even more unstable/bug ridden updates ;-)
My guess the mid Nov one was possibly to dampen down criticism from the few operators in the US that it was supported for.

I'm sorry, I just don't buy that. Two updates a month for a few months is not a high frequency for a new device and new SoC. As for unstable updates how about the FPR that hasn't been rolled out yet for international customers which is very stable, albeit not 100% yet?
But even agreeing with you, as devil's advocate, how about at least a firm date and/or exactly what is holding up the monthly for the P6s. Right now we're flying in the dark and it's causing a lot of people to question their new device release. I really don't think that is asking too much as some are inclined to defend, nor do I think it's entitlement. It's good business or bad business practices and Google needs to step it up a bit, imho.

Have to agree with you on your principle, but I don't expect different from what we're getting and guessing why that's the case.
I don't know - have Samsung or other major vendors done differently for a new device/SoC? I think Apple have done rapid releases once or twice, but they tend to be for more major 'show stopping flaws', right?

Bit p**sed off that some people got the fingerprint reader fix and the rest of us are still struggling. Don't understand the thinking behind that at all.

Actual list is much longer than that, those are Pixel 6/6 pro only. Include 2,4,5, and 7 and you get full changelog for both devices and it is a pretty massive update.

Correct. I was just showing how many applied exclusively to the Pixel 6 - the one whose update that was delayed.

noisy audio recording

Rooted stock I9300XXLFB (international) version. The audio recording is very noisy. I tried several applications for video+audio recording and audio only recording but the noise is always there (EDIT: except of call recording where the noise is ok but overall recording quality is low, of course). Here are two examples taken with the stock Camera application (with the audio track taken out of the resulting mp4 using ffmpeg). I was hoping that the latest fix from radeonxt might help but it is perhaps even worse (more noise from the lower frequencies seem to appear) - the first one (before.aac) is before the fix, the other file is after applying the fix. Both of these were recorded at night in a completely quite room.
before.aac
after.aac
Is this a general S3 problem or is it something specific for my S3? Any sugggestion how to fix it?
I tried 2 other things.
Noise removal in audacity worked pretty well. Of course, this was a very simple spoken word example and it would probably not work well with eg quite background music but still it shows that the problem might simply be no noise reduction while recording audio.
Then I recorded a fake call (using Call Recorder) - and the noise is not present there. Of course, it is a much lower quality (8000Hz at 6.4 kbit vs 48000 Hz at 45/80 kbit) but still it shows that a software fix might be possible. However, strangely enough (at least for me), the noise is not even present if I turn off call noise reduction in the call advanced options:
mediafire.com/?5liar18ekjt5afm
(sorry for not providing a full link but it seems that suddenly I am not allowed to include links??? I get an error message that new users cannot post links - strangely, I was allowed to do that 10 hours ago)
Anyway, the only conclusion I can make is that is seems likely to me that a software fix is possible.
However, first I am wondering, can somebody confirm having the same levels of noise in audio/video recording? If the problem is in my device then I'd rather return it - I certainly want to use the S3 for recording videos from time to time and it is close to unusable for me at these noise levels...
Any input highly appreciated!

If I knew this is a general S3 issue then I could just wait and hope voodoo for s3 is out soon indeed
However, so far I have not found anybody either confirming or denying the noise on his s3 (I do not personally know anybody else with S3), so I am wondering whether it is not a problem specific for my device...
If anybody with S3 could make some audio recording (eg using the Camera application) under similar conditions (just a few words in a quite environment) and compare the noise level or post the recording here, that would be a huge help... but any report (I think/I don't think I have the same problem) or comment would definitely help me too...
I have just found a few S3 video recordings on youtube that are significantly less noisy than mine, eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfsdxx7dK8k (even though he is complaining about audio, it is still much less noisy than what I get)
So I guess either there are different versions of S3 with different microphones/drivers or my microphones/drivers are not working properly. Anybody has an idea how could I find out what is the case?
Anybody? Any idea, suggestion, comment?

Security camera

Hello all,
due to a recent security incidence at my house, I have decided to install some cameras. I read online about using old android phones and I think it's a very good idea, so I bought 5 old android phones with led lights and what I would like to do is the following:
The cameras would start recording/taking photos when motion or sound is detected, and send me a notification. As well, if it's dark, I would like the led light to turn on before it records/takes photos otherwise it would be useless.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any app that would have both the motion and sound detection and the recording feature enabling the flash only when it's needed?
Thanks!

Lollipop Bluetooth issues?

Is anyone else experiencing connectivity stability issues on the OTA Lollipop update? I took the update last night and now it won't stay connected to my Jeep's system long enough to finish a song.
I have I just flashed barepop and its all good
I've been on BarPop-ZV8 and there has been no issues with bluetooth via headphones or car.
Fixed it. It's the dumb kernel on 5.02 that stutters the playback as soon as screen is off. I used a partial wakelock so the cpu stays active after screen off with this app. It works. No more stuttering. As for speakers that require high sample rate I just switched the cpu governor to performance. It's a workaround but the partial wakelock should work especially on bluetooth headphones. Here's the app's link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl&hl=en

Weird Audio Issue with OxygenOS running Android 10

Hello,
My phone has been having odd audio issues after I updated to Android Q. I had an app where I disabled an option for Bluetooth audio stutter reduction and it seemed to fix the issue, but it doesn't seem like an option available to other apps I have.
Is there a way to fix this? I have a couple screen recordings with examples of this. It mostly happens with games, with little to no issues with other apps.
As I am a new user, I am not allowed to post links in my messages. Email me at [email protected] for the clips if you would like.
Thanks!

Question Bad Microphone quality speech intelligibility in messaging apps eg WhatsApp, Duo, Telegram

Hello
Since I have my Pixel 6 all of my messaging partners (WhatsApp, Duo, Signal, Telegram etc) are telling me audio problems including bad quality, low volume, and not last poor speech intelligibility.
The problem happens in live call/video as well audio messages too. Since I own the phone I have received 3 updates, but non of them are fixed or changed anything on this issue.
I have started to investigate the problem and I discovered two major things. Signal loss, and hardly limited frequency range, which happens if the message gets recorded with any messaging application (including Google Duo too)
To test it I record the same audio source with the built-in recorder or WhatsApp.
The audio in the Whatsapp message gets -6dB less loud, and 6kHz above with a hard cut no Audio transmitted.
That has a significant impact on the end result of the audio and definitely doesn't help to improve the speech intelligibility.
The built-in recorder records the same source perfectly which confirms that the phone physically working well. The problem is related to the messaging applications...
It could be eg down sampling problem too.
It is obviously more difficult to understand the speech recorded with eg WhatsApp using Pixel 6 phone then any other phone.
By searching about sample rate related topics, I found an interesting statement which explains why the speech intelligibility bad on the device as in my recordings the frequency range is very narrow as higher than 5kHz starts to drop and above 6kHz no audio recorded.
"For audio, the minimum number of samples per second to unambiguously represent English speech is 8000 Hz. Using less than that would result in speech that might not be comprehensible due to a variety of reasons, one of which is how similar utterances will not be distinguishable from one another. Lower sampling rates confound phonemes, or sounds in a language, which have significant high-frequency energy; for example, with 5000 Hz, it is difficult to distinguish /s/ from /sh/ or /f/."
Listen the samples below:
Wow, honestly I didn't think before that I'd be the only one here getting annoyed that there's a bug that degrades a theoretically higher-class phone in one of the main things: Communication and no one else is complaining about it.
The audio is for some reason converted to a quality that doesn't even reach the theoretical minimum of 8kHz that was very common in analogue telephony in the early 19xx years
And now....
Digital made it worse back then
The issue also occurs on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro and I have not seen this issue on any other phone before.
Is there anyone here who can run the same test on any custom ROM to verify the phone is able to send audio in a voice message e.g. WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal etc. with more than 6 kHz?
Just play this audio on your home audio system and record it with the Messenger app, play back the message...
Do you hear audio above 6kHz?
I have a second Pixel 6 (the first one was sent under warranty to Google), and both have a quiet voice recording. The interlocutors complain, but I can’t do anything about it. Google is not responding to these massive complaints.
