We focus more on ironing out AOSP inconsistencies and emphasis more towards a Pixel experience while keeping everything open-source
Edit: Anay told me that eSIM is untested so let us know if it works!
Nice, I liked your 4a build
Since ProtonAOSP and StatixOS are both based on AOSP, what's the difference between them exactly?
I'm tempted to try StatixOS but I'm currently on ProtonAOSP, that's why I'm wondering
Great job, thanks !

I noticed custom grids and the battery usage display is different. Advanced restart and uses lineage recovery. Seems a bit closer to stock overall than Proton but it's the first build.

Google Pixel 6 is the first device to ship with a fully featured GKI aka Generic Kernel Image. Much like Project Treble, in simple terms, a Generic Kernel Image has external proprietary drivers while the actual Linux kernel source is kept vanilla thus making kernel upgrades a reality and even a potential option to run the mainline Linux kernel! One of our team members, Vaisakh (@m_vaisakh, https://github.com/mvaisakh) took a stab at compiling the gs101 kernel with his fork of GCC and was successful. However, he doesn’t have a device to test his changes on and we think you guys can really help us get things going!
Here’s the crowdfund link that StatiXOS is doing for @m_vaisakh:

Does this build modded the Modem carrier configs i.e. Enabled 5G on all countries?
Thank you very much for your work, working great !! sorry, is there any way to get this recovery in .img? Thank you!
Also wondering about custom accent colors?

We definitely don't plan on adding that any time soon since Monet takes care of accents.

I know they are different roms
But what are the differences exactly? because it looks very very similar..
Those on ProtonAOSP might be interested in trying this custom ROM unless there is hardly any difference between the two builds .. I don't mean to sound disrespectful by saying that of course
Edit : Posting some screenshots and exact features of the rom would not have been too much too..
Anyway thanks for the hard work!
I also would like to see any kind of feature list!
I appreciate your work but you have not given us any reason to go through the effort to flash this ROM. What do we gain? What do we lose? Why would I switch from stock to this? Why would I switch from a ROM like ProtonAOSP which gives me thorough documentation on what it does and what it doesn't do?
I mean no disrespect and I understand that a lot of work must have been put into this. But give us SOMETHING to go on!

Well as far I know, ProtonAOSP doesn't have smartspace; which controls lockscreen weather, and other extras like a stopwatch counter, upcoming calendar events, and upcoming alarms. Everything we do is open-source and public for anyone to reuse, or modify. While we are there, we don't have a paywall that has "early access" stuff behind it. This is solely our hobby project and we don't intend to make a profit out of it. We post regular automated updates using our in-ROM OTA updater once official builds are seeded which usually happens after Google source gets relatively stable and free of super massive changes. We have our own changelog system as well located here: https://downloads.statixos.com/changelog/ and screenshots here: https://downloads.statixos.com/screenshots/. You can also keep track of our automated build instances here: https://buildkite.com/statixos. As of now, the changelog is empty since we haven't started an official rollout and screeshots provided are definitely non-final as well.
Our aim as a custom ROM - especially for Google Pixels - is to maintain the "Pixel experience" that really sets the phone apart from the competition with some quality-of-life improving features on top of it like say something as simple as double tap to sleep in the Launcher.
At the end of the day, we all have our own lives to take care of. Most of us are university students and some of us even have part-time jobs and sometimes, things come in our way and we have no other choice but to make our users wait - which we don't like either. We try the best we can in our limited free time to bring you this project for 4 years now and counting! Thank you for your understanding.
Do you guys have pixel launcher included? Only thing I'm missing with proton. Thanks for the hardwork and great looking ROM!

Team OctOs presents Oct-L.
We maintain a current release record and change-log on our website: http://www.teamoctos.com
- Please Do Not Mirror our files without talking to us. We can do that ourselves should we desire to. -
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 5 (Lollipop)?
A: Yes, this is Android 5.1.1
Q: What code is Oct-L based on?
A: Starting with Oct-L, we've rebased OctOs on the CyanogenMod 12 code.
Q: What happened to AOSP?
A: All Android code is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Under previous releases, we tried very hard to limit the number of "Not from Google directly" repositories that we used. Unfortunately, issues with devices, the need for Code Aurora Foundation (CAF) repositories for Qualcomm devices, and compatibility issues meant fighting code more often than not. We decided that since the code-base for many repositories were the same across most ROMs, picking a starting point to build the user experience on outweighed the desire to craft code from scratch, or fix broken code to make it work with other changes we already had.
Q: Why isn't there XXXXXXX feature.
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But CM and all the others have..
A: ROM developers, including CM, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-L.
Q: Superuser or SuperSU?
A: Team OctOs uses SuperSU and is installed automatically.
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.
ADB Logcat tutorial here: How to create a logcat log
Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favourite Android 5 based GApps package
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
Factory Reset from TWRP
Flash ROM and GApps .ZIP files
Reboot
The Oct-L ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /data/dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your GApps Provider
The foundation of the Android OS is the fact that is it open-source. We have all code we use internally in the creation of Oct-L available on our GitHub repositories.
Unless otherwise specified, all Oct-L builds use the device's stock CyanogenMod 12 kernel.

-Battery life good (make sure keep Google play services in check) sometimes I get lucky with the gapps I try, sometimes not
-GPS great
-No dual window (we're cm based)
-Bluetooth good. I believe NFC works, but I don't use it. Anyone chime in?
Thanks for trying us!
Thanks for bringing this ROM to the G3. Everything is running good. Very snappy, no lag, lots of features. I didn't try nfc or Bluetooth since I don't use them. Keep up the good work.

Hello! Thank you for bringing your ROM to us! What do you mean by "make sure to keep Google play services in check"? Is there something I should be looking for?
Thank you in advance!
Edit: Internet connection popped in after cycling from Global to 3g, then Global to LTE. Works great now!

NFC? It's best not to bring that up around here - it's the bane of the G3 dev and kind of the Holy Grail. Bluetooth isn't totally ironed out yet, but I find it plenty reliable. Thx for bringing us OctOS @red3razor! Since the early S3 days, I've dug your product and team attitude!

There are some notable features that appeared on this version of UOS:

Gonna flash this as a secondary in MultiROM. Will update this post with any issues I've found for the users, and will report on your site as well. Great to see another new ROM
Edit: Seems like a mix of CM and DU with a couple custom apps. This isn't a skinned ROM like the post seems to imply.
Nevertheless, I hope you guys can get some traction and make good progress here!
Also, I didn't test but since this is CM/DU based, you should be able to flash Gapps without issues. I'd suggest OpenGapps Pico just in case, though.

Sorry to hear that but could you describe the situation? I'm clearly don't understand it, what encryption ?
If you can point out the encryption software part, I will delete the whole project, but if you are another hater, please delete this comment, it makes nonsense.
I noticed a few things. I couldn't nstall the ROM as an additional using Multirom. Also, no music player as a opposed to the information on the website.
It's quite a good work and you deserve encouragement.
Well this is nice I'm already downloading, does this force encrypt and will opengapps do ?

2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. 4) Join our Discord server! There, you can connect with other Carbon users and our developers, and you can get quicker responses to your bug reports. The invite link is right below.
Notice:
This build includes GApps for now.

Great. Now development has gained speed. Love to see these roms for our beloved v10
Nice job in the release Chris!
Sweet. Nice job
Great one.
Does this have fingerprint based navigation just as in EMUI, so that we could disable the onscreen navigation bar?
Can i flash this via TWRP Recovery??? I see this is not a flashable zip, so can i flash the image ?

When you implement fingerprint gestures?

Most vendors define those gestures as keyevents. Huawei obviously uses an API to perform them (and not native Linux keyevents support). Anyways, you have a plethora of third party apps that can do this for you.
Excuse me for the noob question, but if this ROM is treble compatible, should I in theory be able to flash it and boot it on my Pixel 2 XL?
I know the 2XL already has CarbonROM but I'm curious about what treble brings to the table.

Caffeine keeps the screen on for as long as the counter is running, or until you manually disable it. Useful for reading without permanently pressing the screen.

In a very theoretic mind experiment: yes. Practically: No. The 2XL has AVB that would prevent it from booting. I honestly wouldn't know what happens if you disable AVB, but my guess it that it doesn't boot (because the 2XL feels special). If you feel like trying, I won't stop you

Actually AVB can be disabled, it has to be disabled to boot non-stock ROMs. I have a ZIP which can disable it. All it does is give you a popup after boot about a partition mismatch but the phone works fine.
So you think, in theory, with AVB disable, this ROM should be compatible? (in theory ofc)

I never said it can't be disabled
As a slight OT: its not mandatory to fully disable AVB on ROMs that are designed for taimen. taimen ROMs ship vbmeta images, that contain the AVB signatures. Due to the design its necessary to disable AVB for /vendor, which is done in the kernel by removing the AVB mount flag in the dtb. Although we're currently looking into properly generating the vendor avb signatures too.
Nonetheless, flashable GApps are likely going to cross those plans and will require to disable AVB on system. Therefore, I'd be happy if you could share that AVB disabler zip me (or release it to the public) so that @frap129 and me can do some testing with seperate GApps.
Now on to your question. I just spent an hour trying to gather some facts for the following statement:
Treble is not supposed to give you "one ROM for all devices", nor will it ever be able to provide just that.
Trebles requirement is that you can use "stock AOSP" on the device. Yes. HOWEVER: That doesn't mean it has to the be same single AOSP image for every device. Treble still requires configurations on that System image.
The system images VNDK is configured to work with an 8.0 treble vendor. That would mean you need to use an 8.0 vendor on your Pixel too.
The compatibility matrix and the manifest.xml on system specify what HAL treble has to expect/load from /vendor. Those likely differ.
There will always be some small overlay differences, features that one device supports which the other doesn't or configs that differ. Auto-brightness steps would be a good example for that.
It is true, that this ROM works on multiple devices, yes. So far, those are pretty much all very similiar in terms of HALs to load and hardware. There is barely any difference between the View 10, Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and others. Things that are different are handled in the kernel (like the Display Technology) and don't affect HALs.
TL;DR + My personal opinion: Whereas treble ROMs might boot (assuming you match all those requirements) a "common ROM for all devices" (which I am starting to think is what everyone expects from treble) is not what you want to use, nor what treble has been designed for.
A new build (systemCarbon_20180303.img) has been uploaded.
It includes support for the US Model, and Fingerprint Gestures. To enable them, go to Settings -> CarbonFibers -> Buttons and tick enable navbar. That will disable the navbar and automatically enable the FPC gestures.
Additionally some new features got merged to the codebase. Happy flashing

CarbonROM is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look, build, and use our code at CarbonROM's GitHub... and at CarbonROM Gerrit.
Pre-Disclaimer:
THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL BUILD. The intent is to showcase what is coming up soon. @frap129 and I have been working hard on getting taimen on a level we consider DD ready, especially from a security side of things.
Please keep any problems with those builds in this thread, we don't accept any bugreports for unofficial builds anywhere else.
Disclaimer:
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash!
Support:
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
Notice:
This build includes GApps for now. We're still working on ways to not prebundle it.
Before you flash, make sure you're on the latest 8.1 stock builds (and bootloader), then flash the ROM in TWRP.
MORE IMPORTANT NOTICE: We are very proud to announce that we are the first and only custom ROM to actually get the Now Listening Feature working on AOSP.

Is this ROM still in testing? And I tread that were supposed to have latest stock 8.1 build.. what's that supposed to mean?? I'm running RR Mod rn.. and I really wanna try carbon.. any help??
ROM is running very smooth! And it seems like it's the first one which doesn't push the cores of the G5 to 2GHz all the time so battery consumption is pretty low.
I had some crashes in the beginning after restoring APPs from Titanium Backup but by now no further issues. Camera is okay but could be better (crashes from time to time, 'Open Camera' is doing quite well!). But I guess this is due to the fact that Motorola hasn't released Oreo yet and some parts for building the camera parts properly.
- Magisk v16 works fine (had to install it twice but then worked)
- BT working
- ext. LTE support (can't test VolTE cause I don't have it)
- Safetynet passes
- SD Card access working
@rrajesh011, @vache - you did a very descent job! By now it's the best Oreo ROM I've tested.

Does this ROM support substratum theme engine? @rrajesh011
That would be awesome because I don't like the white menus from the interface.

Thanks man:good: I tried it right after I posted and everything went perfect. I'm theming my life away with Substratum. Getting ready to install the latest update. I usually uninstall all overlays before I update system and then reinstall them after... Could be paranoid but it seems to work better that way.
Weirdness With Substratum
After applying themes with Substratum I noticed a new menu item called "Device theme", automagically appeared in Settings>Display>Advanced at the bottom right below "Tap to wake". Also Substratum had a major malfunction that the applied overlays didn't show up in Overlay Manager and could not be uninstalled unless I used the rescue zip in TWRP (apparently this is a known issue with Substratum 953). Running Substratum rooted seemed to help, also running Substratum 960 (not released yet). See screenshots for proof of weirdness.
PS This is not a complaint, just sharing experience & observation.

Battery live, there is nothing to worry about ...... you can see how many posts this thread got , happy people are quiet.
It seem like this Rom killed all the bugs I head from day one I bought the Nexus 6, that was in April 15.

I keep on looking if I find anything wrong. ... so far nothing.
Probably a stupid question but... Is there a difference between CARBON-CR-6.1-NOCT-WEEKLY-shamu-20180411-1750.zip (on get.carbonrom.org) & CARBON-CR-6.1-NOCT-WEEKLY-shamu-20180410-0531.zip (this weeks OTA)???
