Cm posts all their kernel source. Slim roms require a custom kernel. I build slim for a few devices and cm kernels seldom work so without the kernel source for the device it may not be an option.

download the caf kernel sources (can't remember which tag. 3.5.2.2?), map the kernel source from the device config as usual.
then make bootimage (which will install the headers),
finally, remove the configs for source built kernel, and map the dt image and zImage
the compiling is making it further and further...hopefully it won't break

Lol I'm trying to get enough money for a small server. My laptop is super full (see SIG). But I want to build omni and 2 other ROMs for the cancro.
I would advise all to read this. Action will be taken in the next few days.

Ok guys, I am petitioning Xiaomi. Help me keep some development alive.

LET'S GO!
Hi Guys,
do you know of any updates on a CM12 port to OPX?
I am very unsatisfied with the Oxygen OS and very used (and satisfied) to CM. I cannot find any information about this...
Thanks!
I doubt anyone would put the effort into porting CM12 for the X or building 12.1 nightlies for it with CM13 on the horizon. But I'm not a dev, so I could be wrong.
I'm waiting for this too, but these are the disadvantages of getting such a young phone...
But arent the Specs very similar to other phones (minimizing the effort of porting)?
But I am no Dev as well, so I have no idea. Just thoughts
Happily, I am wrong:

After CM12, 13 should be relatively easy, but that would require the kernel sources to be out soon. CM12 is with a prebuilt kernel as of now.

Best news today. Thanks a lot!
I didn't notice that posts...I was looking for a dedicated CM for OPX thread
I think OPX development will pick up more pace once it hits the US stores on 19th November. The phones only a week old after all

Quiet a surprising device actually ... They backported MSM8994 stuff on MSM8974. Don't know how that will end up.
Here's my TO-DO list if you are curious
Code:
TO DO :
- adjust firmware symlinks
- update init
- cleanup ramdisk
- custom liblight
- finish overlay
Would be nice if a lot of people could get me
Code:
getprop > getprop.txt
it will help for multinational radio

Ok, first i had done this for cm13, let's see what I can do for AOSP! Lulz. Think my earlier thread for cm13 created too much of hype and development restarted (joy++)
So, First of all, i haven't built AOSP as of yet for op2, will do it. If anyone can get the recovery working, or any progress, report here.
If we have AOSP caf tree, we will be able to port UBUNTU TOUCH, and many other ROMs based of aosp directly.
So here we go!

sure of course you can i already did it while cyanogenmod 13 was not yet booting.. the only thing is that you will have to modify tons of things into the device tree and tons of things into the aosp code to make hardware to work.. the only things that will work without modifications will be wifi and bluetooth.. maybe audio too but i'm not sure about that

Finally, i was trying to compile omni rom but kept getting errors. It was too much work. Way beyond my capabilities and even if i tried it would have taken me months to even make any sort of build. Bootable was not even in the equation. So i dropped it.
Will definitely try to compile omni again once we have AOSP build.

No. Le will never release kernel sources. So you will never have pure CM roms. The CM roms will be based on official ones like 16S, 17S etc.

Yes I guess, its just this is the key reason whether I decide to buy this phone or not, dont want to be stuck with chinese roms in the future.
Hi,
Well we already have resurrection remix which is more than decent.
OK... Maybe with a precompiled kernel but still.
I use it as a daily driver and encountered no problems so far except for a slightly too high battery drain.
But a device tree would allow to build other ROMs which would be really cool...
Regards
@deadman96385 it's already in the mid of september.. do you still see any realistic chance that we're gonna see some kernel source or a cyanogenmod in the future. if you do.. of which timeframe do we talk? days, weeks months?

What are the main disadvantages between precompiled kernel and the use of kernel sources?
Also, I recommend checking htcmania Spain forum, because Parasite_remix is cooking Mooke and CM13 ROMs with 17S firmware.

Hi,
With the custom kernel, that one can be "optimized" for the device and all missing drivers can be added. At least, that is what I have been told but I'd be glad to be proven wrong.
For the htcmania link : thanks a ton, but I don't think I'll use it.
I sold the x820. Battery drain was really too high and even with moderate use, I could barely get through the day
Finding a replacement was tough, but I am trying the Xiaomi mi5 and Moto X Style (Pure) to see if they can do the job...
Both have flaws the x820 had not. And I honestly must admit that I am missing the x820 already
Regards.

There are a few problems with using prebuilt kernels.
1. Upstream changes in Android source code might need related kernel changes, if you don't have the kernel source you can't do this.
2. For the same reason, you may be stuck on old android versions if the kernel isn't compatible with newer versions
3 Vendor may have customized some android frameworks and made related kernel changes. As CM wouldn't have these changed frameworks, some features may not work (although this doesn't appear to be an issue with this phone as the CM builds for it seems to be fully functional)
Do any of the ROMs available for the 5x include native signature spoofing support, like Omnirom does? Thanks!

For microG to work properly, one has to use Xposed or a patch like Tingle by @ale5000 in order to spoof the signature of a bunch of google play services. That is, unless they use Omnirom, which allows it to work out of the box. See the thread here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-microg-gmscore-floss-play-services-t3217616

well, omni is based on aosp, and rr is based on lineage, they has their differences
If you have a know-how/resources, you can manually patch necessary repos and build ROM yourself (I did that for Slim builds on my previous device), commits are available on gerrit, you'll just have to fix some merge conflicts... CM didn't want to support that on CM12.1 (I remember discussion from their gerrit back then), others followed their example, so I guess that is current state of things on Lineage and other CM based ROMs even now...

"At some point" can be deep into 2017 or never but ok, I'm used to that, had a LG device which suddenly went out-of-support after not even full year of life. And it was a flagship. I'd be glad if even monthly patches are kind of regular... just dreams, haha.

Include the patch is really simple for any ROM, it doesn't depend on anything particular, it is just a choice of the one that build it.
The official patches are here.
