I have so many apps on my home screen that it is extended to several panels. I can swipe several times to get to a specific part but would like to go to a certain part directly. My old Note 4 had numbers to tap, e.g. tapping 3 would go directly to the third panel. Can this phone do this and if so how? Thanks for help!

Hi everyone,
I've searched the forums for the past hour or so trying to find out what the thing is that I'm looking for but haven't had any luck, so if anyone can point me in the right direction then I'd be really grateful.
My cousin has a G1 and recently installed one of the SuperCSDI ROMs on it. He showed me an option where on the home screen he presses menu and there was some sort of "Advanced Settings" button, and when he went into it, it allowed him to choose the number of home screens, which home screen was the main one (such as 1st (very left), or 4th (middle), etc) and number of rows of icons in the app drawer menu, as well as various other options.
I don't know if this is the "Advanced Launcher" app because from what I've read that only seems to let you choose "number of rows" but not the number of home screens.
So does anybody know which app/what I'm talking about and if so, is it possible to be installed on Hero either via an .apk file or by flashing a specific ROM that has this built in.
I only use 2 of the 7 screens available so I wonder if decreasing the number of home screens would speed up the phone in terms of RAM usage, etc.
Regards
I've had the G-tab for two weeks and always use something for a while before I ask questions. It looks like at least one of the questions, icon spacing is answered elsewhere but since I am going to as a few questions I'll still include it here.
I'm using TNT-L 4.4 but guessing most of these are universal to Android.
1. The G-tab does lock after a while and I just slide the lock up and it unlocks but is there a place to tell it you want a password. Also when it boots up I'd like a password on it.
2. I know it does multi-tasking but when I am in certain apps, browser and others, I have to either back out of it, or hit the home and when I go back the app starts over again. I thought you could just slide from screen to screen.
3. On the home screen when I put icons on the home screen only four across and and three high. Should be able to get at least 6 or 7 wide and 4 or 5 high. What's up with that?? Can you set icon spacing on the home screen?
4. A lot of devices you can have information displayed when it is locked like your name/phone number in case it is lost/found they know who's it is. Anything to do that?
5. I've seen a number of posts about screen protectors and most are related to fingerprints. I'm mostly wanting to get rid of glare. What is the best Anti-glare screen protector?
6. Where can I get free chocolate? Always a good question.
Thanks.
p.s. This is a great resource!

TNT-L is based off the stock ROM, I do not believe setting a lock-screen code is available. Other ROMs may/may not offer this choice. CM7 and those built from the CM7 base do.

No, no sliding from screen to screen as apps are designed to be inclusive to their own layout. Hold HOME to switch between apps. Don't press it, hold it....a screen will pop up with the last few used apps. Selecting it will take you right back to where you were in the app.

Not with the stock one. Launcher Pro, ADWLauncher, VTLLauncher will allow you to increase the columns and rows. I use an 8x8 grid that fits nicely without chopping off the text of the icons.

Yes, though off the top of my head I don't recall. Plenty of app/widgets that will overlay/use on top of the lockscreen.

No answer for you there...I hate screen protectors.

Looking for the answer myself.
thanks....
Thanks for the info, more than I knew to start even thought you didn't have all the answers

This ought to be in the "Android Navigation 101" thread...it has been driving me nuts trying to figure it out. Thank you...
Regarding screen lock in TNT
I'm not sure if this will work in 4.4. I switched to Vegan a while back to get EAP functionality, so I haven't had to check. However, I did figure out how to do this a while back on TNTLite 5. It requires Launcher Pro (or a launcher with similar functionality).

Next question for a simp
What is the easiest way to get into the Sound applet without having to navigate through the settings menu? The volume control only brings up the Media Playing volume levels, and I'd like to be able to get into the Master and Notifications volumes quickly as well.
EDIT: set up a custom shortcut which gets to the general Sound Settings, but would still like a way to get directly to the volume applet.
It works in TNTL 4.4.0.
I just followed the instruction and was amazed.
Thank you!
The x10 mini pro has a "two-level" home screen:
the "top" hold the clock, and widgets.
the "bottom" holds the application icons.
Since there are many applications installed, the home screen extends beyond the screen width, which results in "windows", and so it is necessary to scroll left and right to see all the different "windows" and the icons they contain. When pressing the "home" button, the phone will bring up the last viewed "window" of the home screen.
Is there a way to make the "home" button always show the first (left most) "window" of the bottom home screen, namely, the left most window of the icons?.
TIA,
Mike.
In a way, yes...and in a way, no.
The screen(s) with all your apps in is known as the "app drawer". The stock launcher for the X10 Mini Pro will always do what you say, it will always go to the last viewed page of the drawer when you open it.
In theory, you could dig deep into the code of the SemcHome app and make it do what you want. I've no idea what you'd need to do, but it's theoretically possible.
The easiest way is probably just to install a different launcher. Have a look on the Market. I'm using Go Launcher Ex which does the same thing but it does let me put more app icons on one screen (I've got 16 instead of the stock launcher's 9) and you can group apps into individual folders. Or you can just hide the ones you don't need.
So this won't do exactly what you asked for, but it might give you a decent alternative.
Thanks.
Is it possible to place applications and shortcuts icons on the "top" home screen, say in the same screen as the clock?.
Thanks,
Mike
Yes, bascially. Although, again, you'll still need a different launcher for this.
A lot of phones will let you do this from stock but, because ours has a smaller screen, we can only put stuff into the four corners. Download a new launcher and you can cover your screen with app's and shortcuts as much as you want!
You can add shortcuts to the homescreen by long holding an App in the app draw and dragging away from its location to the Homescreen
Thanks all for replying.
ryant: The long press and drag method isn't working on my x10MP with android 2.1 .
I can move the app icon around in the app drawer (left and right screens), but not "up" to where the clock and other widgets live. Have you tried this on an x10MP with a stock launcher?.
Also, I've now found the "multicon" app which allows to place multiple widgets on screen, which is a good enough solution for me.
I need some advise, i have a few questions about the phone which i have been trying to sort out without success.
1) Is there anyway to move the google search bar at the bottom of the home screen ? I cant get rid of it or move it at the moment
2) I cant get rid of the date and time at the top of the home screen. Usually you press and hold and drag up to delete
3) I tried to work around the top 2 questions by selecting a different home screen but i cant seem to do it. Is it possible ? I press and hold an empty part of the screen to select Home screen setting but that's as far as i get. Also tried pitch and anything else that came to mind. I can not delete a home screen either.
4) Icons don't fit and leave a white boarder around the edges.
I also tried a launcher which seemed to help the first three points but the icons still didn't fit
Will it still have badge counters next to the icons or missed calls on screen? What are the pros and cons of using a launcher?
Thanks in advance
JP
Hello fellow Android users.
I've always been obsessed with customizing the functionality of my devices to make it really practical to use.
I've been playing with the settings of the Xiaomi Redmi 9 for a week now and everything is set to perfection except one thing which is not available in the default settings but would be incredibly convenient, not only for me but for many people too.
I set all the apps I use in one single home screen (not multiple pages). The ones that don't fit there are all in one folder and that uses up only one button slot.
Since I don't have multiple pages for the apps, the swipe left and swipe right functions are available for other useful things, I'd like to set that up to be shortcuts to apps that I use a lot, like whatsapp and gmail. This would also free 2 slots in my home screen.
I suspect there's a way to do it, just don't know how and have tried several google searches like "how to assign left and right swipe functions on android home screen" or "how to customize left and right swipe on android home screen" and many other similar combinations of words. Found nothing.
Does anyone know if there's an app or a mod that allows you that level of customization? I'm a video editor and I'm not very educated in programing android apps or anything similar.
Hope someone can give me a hint. Thanks a lot in advance. Greetings from Barcelona, where many of us are locked down and unemployed :cyclops:
