My alarm doesn't go off when the phone is switched off. This used to work great in all my previous phones.
Also the volume button press to snooze is broken as well. Can anyone check and let me know?
Alarm works fine here. The button press I don't even know about since I get up when my alarm goes off, but I do know that Google has added "voice gestures", for lack of a better term, to the Assistant. Turn the feature on in settings, say "snooze" the next time your alarm goes off and the alarm will snooze.

Does the alarm ring if your phone is off? Mine doesn't and I get a missed alarm notification after I turn on the phone.
Doing some research Huawei devices have the capability of firing an alarm even when the device is off. However, the vast majority of devices don't do this. Google devices to the best of my recollection never had this feature. Neither did Motorola or Samsung.
On these devices, and all the others I have had (see the signature), "off" meant off.

Oh I didn't know that. Me previous OnePlus 7 pro also was able to do this. I thought it was an issue. Good to know that's how it's meant to be.
Still the volume buttons not snoozing the alarm is really annoying for me.

Have you set the volume button to snooze in the settings? It doesn't default to that.

Can confirm it doesn't work for me. But I have voice commands enabled via the assistant so I just say stop or snooze
can also confirm the snooze with volume button does not work.
I had it set to stop which did work...just tried the snooze option = did not.
worth sending feedback via the menu option in Clock - if you have not already done so...

I've had my hero for a week now and on 3 occasions the alarm i set in the clock menu has simply not gone off!?
Now i wouldn't sleep through it as its loud enough so i cant understand it. The alarm is set correctly so i'm well and truly baffled as to why its not working correctly.
Could there be a glitch in the software or something?
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks
Gaz
Try searching the forum, I think similar topics were started before about this.
If I recall correctly it has to do with the volume being set on mute, or something like that. Try using the volume rocker when setting the alarm.
Hope that helps.
Are you regularly using a task killer?
Regards,
Dave

This is normally the case if you kill the clock using a taskiller app. If so move the clock to the ignore list.
Thanks for the replys folks.
Yeah i use advanced task manager so i'll create an exception and see how i go.
Thanks again
Gaz
I had loads of problems with this originally, and can confirm it was all due to the Task Killer apps. If you dont use them, you wont get the problem.
I created an exception originally and it was fine, but now like others I have started trusting Android a bit more, and left it to its own devices, not using any task killer apps.
When 1.6 and 2.0 arrive on the Hero, you should notice a general performance boost anyway, as they have optimised the code to ensure background apps and processes take a smaller percentage of the CPU, so the phone should appear more responsive and require even less need for task killers.
I have to say that the following issue exists, too:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1109
I case you disable the shutter sound you'll get the alarm sound muted, too.
You can enable it on the screen where you choose an alarm tone.
I am getting frustrated with this as I have been late two times last two weeks because the alarm clock has not activated.
The phone is on (witch is stupid, should be able to wake up and ring as every old phone is capable of doing) but it is on, the alarm sound is adjusted to the highest level and still sometimes for no reason it does not ring! The alarm is still active (one time alarm) when I wake up 1-2h later so nothing has happened, it just skipped to ring.
Is there a remedy for this because it is a MAJOR problem. I don't want to have to buy a alarm clock for that job, it is a smartphone for crying out loud and my stupid 10 year old nokia does this without any problems 100% reliable...
When you use app such as taskkiller and kill clock process then alarm will not ring. Before going sleep restart your phone and dont touch taskkiller. Or add clock to ignored list.
go to clock settings>alarms and click on one alarm which you want...let's say first one..you will see numbers, description, alarm sound...etc
click alarm sound and instead of clicking a tone, just click the side button (volume) and you will seethe green bar as if you were changing your ringer volume...just set it to desired level
and note that this has nothing to do with phone being in vibrate or silent mode..it will ring regardless
i had the same issue until i figured out how to deal with it
and trust me...the phone itself ad the alarm are reliable
I agree with both of these answers.
I had exactly the same problem before i added the clock to the ignore list. It will still show the alarm as activated, but it will not ring.
Do both and you should be fine.
shutting down third party apps with a task manager is one thing , but leave the pre-installed android apps alone. they're running for a reason, dammit
Thanks guys you were right the taskkiller did kill the alarm, it appeared still to be active in the settings and icon in the notification bar (that confused me) but the alarm did not go off. Added it to the whitelist and tested a couple of times - worked fine!
Why does it not work when turned off? The clock keeps the time while the phone is off, so it seems natural that the alarm would also work - maybe a 2.1 update? Older phones would power up for the alarm..
Thanks again!
it's just not something that works on HTCs. They're designed to be on all the time.
i use advanced task killer free and everything works..no problem with such things...
i switched to ATK because taskiller seemed to consume too much memory
i tried ATK while taskiler was on and i had ...25-30 mb less memory then i uninstalled taskiller and got those back....
strange...how can a utility consume so much ram

Which is really retarded. My old ****ty sony ericsson phone that is 6 years old can boot up and activate alarm, when turned off properly.
Why cant HTC figure something out?
To the guy that says he doesnt care for alarm: when one day you will have exams, are tired, u cant think straight, u put ur alarm, turn off ur phone properly, and.. no alarm. and no exams.
Then u will start caring

because your 6 year old phone isn't really off, it is suspended so it can power up and sound alarms. when the hd2 is off it is really off so can't.
the old phones had to do this way because their memory isvolatile,,if youleave your old phone alone for a week, even "off", the battery dies and a hard reset automatically happen
re the alarm not continually ringing, firstly reenable the windows notifications,(can use bsbtweaks, ork at the keys edit the reg key directly) which will give you back the multiple snooze time options.
you can also have a look in
hklm/system/shell/notification/oem/reminder.
i haven't done any proper testing of these keys, and i'm not sure if tidy affect the alarms or just reminders,, i'll get around to it one day.
my alarm is all to hell, doesn't go off, goes off at wrong time etc...
found a fix though....... in the shape of a £3.99 clock radio.
It even has a working fm radio which is more than I can say for my HD2....
so basically you have two options......
buy an alarm clock or just get up when the alarm goes off.....
imo the snooze function is only encouraging laziness in an already slothenly portion of society...
but maybe that's a subject for another forum.....

slothful or slovenly, take your pick (Made up words becoming mainstream, pfffft, wouldn't have happened in my day, bring back the birch, hangings too good for em, and other such nonsense) hehe.
Anyway, been testing my alarms (to the disgust of my missus) and with the windows dismiss x notification tweak (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Shell\Notification\OEM rename NotificationLayout.dll to anything that doesnt exists ((bsb tweaks calls it NotificationLayout2.dll))) and my alarms set using windows clocks and alarms, not sense, repeats every 45 seconds until i interact with the phone in ANY way, then it stops but the alarm popup stays on screen till i dismiss or snooze. I have been snoozing it for 5 mins each time, and letting it ring ten times each time it went off, and i was told to stop after i had snoozed it 10 times, so in ten snoozes, the sound played a hundred times.
So, the only thing i can think of that would be causing it to auto stop ringing would be HTC's NotificationLayout.dll, and that reg edit above disables that, hence mine working? sounds reasonable to me.

What apps are people using for their alarms?
Right now I use Alarm Droid. I really like it, but i have a problem with it changing my volume settings on its own.
Example: My phone is on vibrate, and I have an alarm that goes off at 9:05am. When I stop the alarm, my volume changes to either silent (which isn't a huge deal), or full volume. Full volume is when I have a problem, because if I don't notice it, I get email or txt notifications during times when my phone needs to be silent.
Has anyone had this kind of problem? If not what apps work reliably for you?
And before anyone suggests it, I can't just use the sense alarm because I am running CleanRom DE which is senseless. Although I have had this problem from the very beginning running the phone bone stock. So...any thoughts?
Sent with a Rezounding HELL YEA!
I use DoubleTwist Alarm, Love it so far, give suggestions for bed time and lets you know how long before the alarm is triggered
Kaloer Clock is my go to. Will Force the alarm volume separate from the system math on snooze or dismiss, quite a few options for customizing the clock face.
umm stock... dont know why i need anything else

I rarely use an alarm to wake up with... When I need one, I just set an appointment in Touchdown and let its appointment reminder wake me up.

I just use the stock one.
I really miss the Blur Alarm clock from my Droid X. It's the ONLY Blur thing I miss. I like how the entire screen was the snooze button and you had to slide to dismiss. I wish there was a 3rd party alarm that was set up just the same. I have seen a hack to make the CM7 alarm work to look just like it, but nothing else.
Can't see a need to use anything other than the stock one - wakes me up every morning without problems
I use alarm clock xtreme. It seems to let you set the volume in the app independent of other volume levels.
I use stock. I keep all my volumes on high anyway so no need for anything else.

I use alarms as reminders and have been struggling to find the easiest way to create alarms on the fly. I'm currently using an app called Life Reminders, which has some nice features, but I'm still on the lookout for something better.

Waking up is my kryptonite. If it's to easy to shut my alarm off, or snooze, I will never wake up, or snooze for over an hour. My boss hates the first, my wife hates the second.
Gentle Alarm, it slowly ramps up in volume so it wakes me up and not the wife.

I like having a larger snooze button, I wake up better if I hit snooze a few times and slowly wake up, it makes me feel like I'm getting a little bit of bonus sleep.
If I have to focus my eyes long enough to slide the "snooze" button into the ring, I've already woken up too much.
If stock is good for you, then great. There are some of us that prefer a huge, easy to use snooze button and then making it more complicated for the dismissal part.
Has anyone else been having problems with the stock alarm clock on the Galaxy S4? Mine seems to be unreliable. Goes off one morning, but not the next. But is random when it works and doesn't.
Current settings:
Android: 4.2.2
Carrier: Verizon
Time: 7am
Days: MTWTF
Repeat Weekly: Checked
Alarm type: Vibration and Melody
Alarm tone: Journey
Sound: Maxed
Location alarm: off
Snooze: off
Smart alarm: off
In "menu" outside that section I have "voice control" off.
Not rooted, no other ROM. Just default, stock Verizon Galaxy S4.
Before I go to bed I double check to make sure my alarm is on and sound is at the max (not in vibration or silent mode). Power saving mode is "off". I have no task killers. I do close all my apps using the default android task manager. But then I turn the alarm clock back on because I'm paranoid. But none of this seems to help.
I've tried factory reset, that didn't seem to help as it still sometimes goes off and sometimes doesn't. I have not tried any other alarms than the stock one. I will be trying one (any suggestions?) and updating this to let you know if it worked. But until then, it would be cool to see if I'm not the only one having this issue and to see if anyone else has solved this!
Thanks!

I use the alarm every day as well, and have not had a problem with it not going off. Are you using one of the stock alarm tones, or a custom song/sound? I have used both without issues, but if you're using something other than a stock tone, maybe try one of those to see if it's an issue with your audio file.
Edit: I see that it's called "Journey" so that may be a stock tone. I guess I'm not sure then

Correct, the alarm tone I'm using is a stock tone. It's woken me up before, so I don't think I'm sleeping through it haha. My only guess is my phone is somehow going into a low power state that's not updating the time every minute, therefore the alarm time is sometimes getting skipped and therefore not getting triggered. I just don't know what would be causing this as I have "power saving mode" off and I haven't ran into any other settings that would do this... I do plug my phone in overnight too, so you'd think it would be going full force anyway. But I just recently switched from iOS so I'm still a bit new to the android side of things .

Have you tried running some daytime tests to see if it rings on time? The clock on the lockscreen may only update when the screen is on, but the phone always knows what time it is. If you can get it to skip alarms reliably, maybe take it to a Verizon store and have them swap it out. I've used my cell phone as an alarm for quite a few years (I have a backup as well, but only because I'm pretty good at shutting alarms off in my sleep) and the only times I had trouble was with older phones when I was rooted and running a less-than-stable custom roms.

I did run various tests throughout the day yesterday, have a few set for today too. All went off fine so far. The stock alarm woke me up this morning too. Maybe I just had to break it in haha. I'm worried it will skip again, though, so I'm using my desktop as a backup alarm clock, lol. If it does skip I will more than likely take it to Verizon, as this doesn't seem normal. Haven't tried any non-stock alarm clock apps yet. Guess I should look for a good backup app just in case eh.
