Hey there!
Recently I got thinking about installing LineageOS on my SM-J730F (Galaxy J7 2017). But most Roms / Recoverys out there are not the most recent ones and I like to use recent Versions as I like most recent features as well as bugfixes.
So I wondered, if there are any disadvantages of self-compiling your roms and recovery.
Also i have a few other questions open:
- If I compile my rom and want to update to a newer lineageos version, can i do this via the updater or do i have to recompile the entire system again?
- What happens, if you have physical buttons. Do they work normal and are Software-Buttons disabled?
- Can I use any version of GApps?
Thanks in advance

Yeah sure why not
Can't install system update for infinix s5 after flashing. Maybe I used wrong boot.img or vbmeta.img. Now some apps are incompatible with my device. I successfully rooted the device with zygisk.
I tried downloading s5 firmware but can't flash with SP Flash tool.
Also installation of custom TWRP failed. I just wish my device can go back to normal. I already flashed but the problem persisted.
Boot loader is unlocked.

Why not simply push a copy of CPU-architecture matcihng SU to /data/local/tmp?
It needs to have the squid bit set, and owned by root
