What the heck is wrong with pixel 6 series?
My pixel 2 and Mi A1 have more feature (with same app version, same Google account, and same operator) in messages as well as phone app (for e.g. caller name announcement, wifi calling)
Not sure why things are so messy with p6.

No, both pixel 2 and Mi A1 are running android 12.

Hungary? I thought this would almost exclusively be available en English speaking countries and Germany.
I'm unsure if I need to enable anything to be able to get it. I know it's serverside, but I disabled location history, Google Now and a few other things. Will I need to enable anything to be able to get Assistant?

It isn't country related, assistent coming on every device that have 6.0+ Android version .
English & German language is only supported for now.

However you need to change the Language setting to English (US) and clear the google Cache and restart your phone. You should have the Assistant then.

I'm still on Feb security patch NUF26K but have Google Assistant. In USA (About to update to March patch though)
Still don't have it... Nexus 6P on Project Fi, 7.1.2 beta, English in the USA! Everyone else I know has it somehow and they don't even have Nexus phones, so frustrating because I really don't like now on tap. Hopefully I get it in the next day or two!
In order to force enable it this is what you do
Remove Google account from your phone, restart phone, long press home button, googel assistant will pop up and prompt you to sign in.
Note location history as to be turned on for Google Assistant to work, so if you are like me and don't like location history, Google Assistant will not work.

I've tried this and it works but then promptly takes it away and gives me Google Now on Tap instead :crying:

I know I've had that on for years, I use it all the time for Google Maps Timeline. I just double checked and Location History is indeed on. Looks like I just gotta wait. :silly:

I just did this and had the same thing happen. Google Location enabled. I was able to do some searches when it first popped up but once I closed the screen I get Now On Tap. Lame!
I've yet to get it in the UK, but articles I've read lead me to believe it is coming to the US English users first and UK English users in time?
I don't have it yet. I'm from Spain, but my phone has always been configured in English UK variant. I am in last March security patch rom.
Lost Google Assistant
I received Google Assistant on my Nexus 6P and my Nexus 6 only for them both to loose it after a few minutes. Has anyone else had this problem?
There seem to be a few variant of the ROM depending on the region. Major difference base on what everyone is saying there is that the Chinese rom is horrible and the global/UK rom is better.
Well I have a OPX China version coming this week. It was a decent deal that why i went for it instead of the other version. So how screwed am I?
Is the China version really crippled? Is there a way to at least make it similar to the global rom? I know google play need to be installed and some app needs colorOS apps need to be removed.
How about notification and ram management? And major difference compare to the global ROM? Thanks for any feed back.
People complained about not being able to add a custom launcher. But you could always use adb to remove the coloros launcher to force the device to use the custom launcher. Also, all global variants are exactly the same, there really is no distinction between them.
My GF is using chinese edition and I am using AU edition, and both of us are in US, so I think I am able to tell you something.
Chinese edition is really for China(I am a Chinese so I know it). It will be perfect in China, but a disaster anywhere else in the world. You can always install google play in the original store and also uninstall some stock software and replace the launcher with adb. But three things are hard to change:
1. The background task is limited to 5.
2. Only the white listed app can auto start, other than the app in the list, only 5 are allowed.
3. G assistant can't work well, and G feed for Nova launcher as well. You will never be able to use ok google or hey google.
And for global version. The background management is worse than what I did with Brevent. And there is no great animation when you do super vooc charge. Other things are perfect.
Oppo is working on allowing bl unlock and Wuxianlin bet her own weibo account for it, so you will be able to flash global version soon.

I keep thinking that if someone can find the variant identifiers in the roms we can make the phone think the international or eu rom is the Chinese one and spoof it into allowing it to install.

Can you please confirm global version doesn’t restrict notifications? You receive notifications as any other Android phone.
Can you get notifications on lock screen?

Anyone found a working Call Recorder yet? I've tried several and no joy (some do nothing - including the one from the Huawei 'App Gallery', others record the first second or so really quietly, and then just disappear)
Shame, I had finally found one for S9+ which worked flawlessly... but had to bin off the S9+ due to the enforced 'no dual sim and memory card' issue.
Another thing, can't seem to find how to change system fonts. Seen elsewhere that it has to be done through Themes or such... but can't find any options for font changing within any themes I've tried.
Use the Theme apps to change fonts.

If you need this (i do sometimes too), xiaomi is better. It has this option in OS.
Even Samsung removed this function from android 9
It's Android 9 that makes this so difficult, many developers trying to figure this out.

Hi, can you post which audio source you selected in the app (Voice Call, Voice Call (software), etc..), and other possible useful information about that app settings and related phone settings (ex. battery optimization of that app) that you are currently using?
Unfortunately I was unable to make it record phone calls whichever source I selected, files were created but completely silent...

Would be interested to at least check this out - as most places say its an Android 9 problem, but Google Play (and the link you provide) say not compatible with device. Did you get it from somewhere else?
Curious as you say it works on your M20 Pro.
I installed that app from the Google Play store using another smartphone, then copied the ipk to the Mate 20 Pro and then installed the app.
The app runs apparently fine, but in my tests recorded files were always completely blank, whichever setting combination used.

Unfortunately, the problem is connected with your Android version. In Android 9, the possibility to record the caller's voice was blocked, and now it is a known issue for all users with this OS version. We are doing our best to find a workaround. So far as we know, no other call recording apps have a solution for this yet.
Some people have informed that in new security updates was progress in call recording. I suggest to follow updates on Google Issue Traker. It's issue 112602629. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I have the new Huawei mate 20 Pro, initially I couldn't get any of the call records working on my Android phone. It would record my voice and not the other persons I honestly have no idea what has now happened but it is actually working, what's even more strange it's working better than it ever work before on any of my previous handsets. Previously on my Google pixel Android phone I could only record the other person while the phone was on loudspeaker. At the moment I can record all outbound and inbound calls perfectly well it's been like this for about 2month.

I'm using, after a lot of searching, Boldbeast Recorder available on Google play. You imperatively must set the Record Mode to 14. Works perfect as long as you turn on the speaker when you send a call!
When I call my girlfriend/friends I like to read the news and search things up as we talk. As you can imagine, I prefer using VOICE SEARCH as opposed to TYPING.
Well what do you know... ANDROID made it where if I'm on a phone call, I cannot use my VOICE SEARCH feature. I was always able to do this on my Samsung S8+. I bought a OnePlus 7T and now I am not able to do this.
I was about to return my phone for that reason but when I went to the Verizon store and tested out the new SAMSUNG S20 ULTRA, it's the same thing. It seems the "geniuses" at Google disabled this feature for whatever reason. Please tell me there is a way around this.
I have already deleted and disabled Google Chrome and Google Search widget because I can't watch videos while I'm on a phone call. I've confirmed this is the case with all the recent Android phones out. I found a fix around that though: FIREFOX and FIREFOX SEARCH WIDGET.
I'm losing my mind I am starting to hate Android more and more they keep making our lives more difficult. Please help me before I switch to an Apple device!

On my note 8 I used to have a problem that irritated me. From time to time google assistant will pop up when I am using speaker phone..
Sometimes it's bixby..
It is very irritating. Then the problem just vanished. Wasn't really paying attention so im not sure which update removed it.
But to me it's nice that it's removed.
You might want to check if siri will work while on the phone before switching camps.

It has nothing to do with the voice search app. it seems when I am on a phone call my microphone is disabled for any type of voice input other than talking on the phone call. It doesn't matter what the app is. This wasn't the case on my Galaxy s8 plus and I have confirmed that this is the case for the new Galaxy s20 as well.
I just ordered mine today from Hong Kong and eager to get it in my hands in 3-4 days so I wanted to ask some questions on what others have tried regarding dialers. I want to make and receive calls and SMS.
I see Xiaomi have their the dailer apks available to download. Has anyone tried?

Thanks for the reply. After reading i went off to research basebands and I'm confident it's a software thing, not hardware related.
There are ways to modify the baseband without root but need unlocked bootloader according to some Google searches but they are a little old and for previous versions of android.
Maybe just copy the baseband partition of the Poco F3. Same chip, nearly same specs except for the screen.
Time will tell. Ill have it tomorrow morning.
We'll just an update on the SMS.
It works flawlessly out the box. Just use the Xiaomi messages APK and works a charm. Can send and receive all the messages from the banks.
Going through the notification menu and it's got the dailer and contacts built in already but app not showing on the window. I can't toggle or change the app.
Maybe they will implement calls in am upcoming update.

Have you gotten any luck with the tablet? Does installing google dailer work? I'm looking to get the 5g one imported but not being to make calls is a set-back.
Edit : Found out it's called phone by google now.
