nice idea can i also recommend people add their ROM name / STOCK firmware status, and wifi chip if they know it (as devices can have many revisions internally with different wifi chips and performance) may also be useful

Great idea. Now I will have one more consideration to look into when buying a new box which equates to more work and research ...LoL
Internet speeds are a tricky issue and users especially with a VDSL subscription must understand that there are many factors as to why they can't get the full speed they are paying for. One must understand that there several soft gates that limit their internet speeds and even more via Wi-Fi.
1st Gate: Make sure your internet profile the ISP assigned to you is the fastest possible for your package plan.
2ndGate: Find out your line's attainability for down/up via their VDSL modem's internal UI. Paying for a faster profile is a waste if the line and the type of DSLAM connecting to your modem can't provide the speeds you are paying for.
3rdGate: Find out what your modem synced for down/up speeds. If the modem synced at a low speed then it's not going to get any faster than to the speed it synced to as outside temperature plays a huge part. Sync your modem when it is the coldest outside.
4thGate: Wi-Fi signal and link speed of your box via your router/modem which can be affected by distance, placement of router and box and the environment where they are located at.

Hello,
as I've read on the net, i9100 should be a dualband wifi device. 2.4 Ghz AND 5 Ghz ought to be supported.
I that true? Is someone actually using 5 Ghz-only mode or was that just marketing buzz?
greetings
No, it doesn´t connect to 5GHz WLAN
How could I control it ? I don't have anything related to it in my settings' panel ^^'

You are right! I just tried that, and it works just fine.
Thanks for your answers. But which one is correct?
Did you set your Wifi-AP to IEEE 802.11a which is 5Ghz or to 802.11n, which uses 2.4 AND 5 Ghz?
Please some more details. Right now the possibility for dualband is still just 66%
greetings
My case :
My house Router Setting - 2.4ghz band for Wireless G and 5ghz band for Wireless N... Both worked with my phone. But G on 2.4ghz more stable (most of the time 3bar or more), fot N on 5ghz sometime no network coverage.
My router : DLink Quadband DIR825
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I'm using Apple's Time Capsule with both 5 Ghz N and 2.4 Ghz G and N.
As usual 5Ghz is faster but weaker in signal strength.

I tried to set my router to 5GHz mode, and it wouldn´t find the WLAN even if I´m standing next to the Router.
I only tried 802.11n, not 802.11a.
But as others said differently I may give it another try. My Firmware is still KE2, maybe the updated the WLAN-driver later?
I´d actually would like to be able to use 5GHz, as there are quite a few 2,4GHz WLANs next to me, so bandwidth isn´t always the best.
So, whats the case now? Are there several different Hardware/Softwarelayouts on the market or why are there these differences?
Can someone confirm that pure 5GHz wifi works or not, based on trial and error, and post his Firmware-details?
Greetings,
Fenrasa
EDIT:
i googled something VERY interesting:
[Firmware] I9100XXKG1 (Android 2.3.4) (05.07.2011) is supposed to be able to connect to 5GHz Wifis. Can someone try it out and confirm it?
Another poster to the thread wrote, that "KE2 and 7" ought to connect to 5GHz wifi as well.
SOURCE: --cant post link yet, need 8 posts ---
No people some ROM's supporting some NOT !!
Example: Stock Rom -supporting!
and LeoMar75 Rom Revolution
My EU device with KE7 ROM does connect to 5GHz on my WNDR3700 router. IIRC I had to make the SSID visible to make the original connection; once the connection was set up, I then reset the SSID to hidden.
Allright!
Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 on I9100XXKE7 logged into my 5GHz Wifi. (Buildnummer GINGERBREAD.XWKE7)
Thank you all for your help!
Just a follow up question to this:
It appears the GS2 does have 5ghz support at least to some degree.
Is this 802.11a 5ghz, or 802.11n 5ghz, or both? And on a side-note, what's the fastest speed you've got it to negotiate with wifi? On my Galaxy S, even with 802.11n and 10 feet away from my router, I usually max out at 72 mbps.
It definitely supports 802.11n at 5 GHz, as that's how I connect to my home network. I have no idea how fast the link is -- never bothered to check.
Now that I'm at home, I just connected to my 5 GHz 802.11n, and the link speed reported by the SGS2 is 65 Mbps, the same speed I get connecting at 2.4 GHz. I'm sitting about 2 meters from my access point, and the 5 GHz signal strength is only "good", as opposed to "excellent" for the 2.4 GHz.

Interesting, thanks 3waygeek! Glad to hear 5Ghz appears to work with 802.11n.
*Bump*
Anyone else have any experience/input?
5ghz works here too, speeds seem to be faster( not that they matter on real life conditions) but signal ill always be weaker for 5ghz as it doesn't penetrate walls and such as well as 2.4
Sent from Samsung Galaxy S2 on TELUS.
I am quite confused about the statements here regarding the signal ranges of a....n..
can somebody have a look at "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11" they give the largest ranges for ...n signals. The only thing I can confirm is that yes, I can connect to all: a... and ...n..
Well it may be useful to gather a collection of working/not working stats together to find the best rom/kernel/modem combos.
NOT working (5GHz network not detected, Time Capsule with separate named 5GHz channel, picked up fine by Macbook Pro):
ROM: VillainROM 2.4.2
Kernel: 2.6.35.11 ninphetamine 2.0.5, and also 2.1.3
Modem: XXKG6
ROM: LeoMar75 2.6 - XXKH3
Kernel: 2.6.35.11 ninphetamine 2.1.3
Modem: XXKH3
well, for those who can't connect to 5Ghz band, try to adjust channel setting on your router may solve the problem.
My S2 only supports 36-48 channels currently, and I can't find any region option in the setting menu.
BTW, yes, the 5Ghz signaling strength is not as good as 2.4Ghz. However, the trasmission rate (or efficiency) is much better than 2.4Ghz due to less interfere.
Hi everyone, I have Nubia Z7 Max and its spec sheet says that it has 802.11ac. Currently I don't have an AC router, and on the current router and the N connection standard I have 150Mbps link speed. Since I also have a gigabit LAN, with a server for exchanging data between devices, would I gain any kind of speed by switching my router to a one that supports 802.11ac? I know it depends on how many spatial streams and what kind of bandwidths the phone has, but I can't find this info anywhere, is there any detailed info for the AC wifi configuration on ZTE Nubia Z7 Max? Thank you...
Hi, with my mikrotik hap ac(not lite) android shows 433mbit/s, in reality 150-300
I see, I measured and now I have file transfers at around 110 Mbps, with the 150 Mbps link speed reported by Android. So I'd double the speed at best. I'm a bit less interested in a new router now. Maybe later on.... thanks...
Rate this thread to express how you think the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
it does'nt have dual band wifi
Going by the way Asus is targeting its phone and the audience appeal. Definitely it will be developer friendly. With the recent drift by the Asian OEM's moving closer to "Openess" i believe they will allow BL unlock and release the kernel sources as well. (Example, Xiaomi's approach have change towards kernel sources. And now you can buy Redmi 5, minus wait time and flash sales). All the best to Asus for bringing in this device, looking forwards for Developer community to accept it and bring in some action.
Can any one confirm that dual band wifi works or not. Because dual band is supported by soc but not listed in spec sheet

This ****ty phone only comes with WLAN 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz and not 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac.I've checked this on the official asus website.

I have also checked the website but in flipkart (e-commerce website) shows a,b,g,n is supporyed
As far as I remember, Asus always had bug in their software. Some Zenfone 5 got freeze when unlocked, Fonepad 8 brightness bug not solved. Maybe when custom rom ready, we can have ac Wi-Fi.
Up till now, there is no confirmation about the wifi ac. No one has tested it yet. From the SD636 spec, it stated SD636 should have integrated WCN3980 wifi ac (not like SD625 which can have separate module). Maybe the wifi ac is disabled to make sure it doesn't compete with the premium product?
ZenFone Max Pro doesn't have Wi-Fi AC. Even the Wi-Fi n has issues. After software upgrade it causing me problems after problems!
can any one confirm what is the max link rate achievable on the 2.4ghz band . Does it atleast got 2 x antenna to support higher throughput
As these days 2.4ghz on phone is good if we have 2x or more antenna to support spatial stream.
I have seen upto 173Mbps which is good and not possible if it dont have 2x antenna. As if the phone is dual band they dont host 2x antenna which can boost 867Mbps on ac and 300Mbps on 2.4ghz which is hard to come. What do they do with all the power just game. . Also ditching type c is really bad. I am disliking this model
wifi connection problem
can any one pls confirm, if they are having the same issue with asus zenfone max pro m1 --
google play store(many times), norton live update(havent worked yet) , and chrome (crashes and has to be restarted to access internet), these all are not working over wifi when mobile data is turned off or phone is in airplane mode. and when i try to turn off the wifi to switch it on again, the button when moves from right to left, the motion is jittery and not smooth, it hangs for a fraction of a sec in middle.
also my phone's -- android security patch level shows 1 may 2018 with build number opm1.ww_phone-15.2016.1805.318-20180712 ? is it the latest or asus have released any latest after this?
1 more issue-- under network & internet > mobile network > network settings, there it shows 2 mobile networks, where it shows one as card 1 (which is actually airtel)but other correctly as vodafone IN. the displays shows CARD 1 / VODAFONE IN.
and 1 more thing-- the option of enhanced 4g lte mode is available under 1 sim only.?? are those ****ty things happening with my device only or its universal apocalypse.
in short- accessing internet over wifi has many issues with many apps not detecting the internet.
lol...1 more issue--- in the quick settings drop down menu where it shows signal ,time battery etc there is no option of mute, or volume adjustment or volume profile soft key or am i missing something here. though volume menu is integrated separately and only pops up when u press hardware vol up/down key. what a ****ty device
Many apps doesn't work on wifi only work in mobile data. Don't know why many people has this issue.
Guysss my maximum speed i can get on speed test wifi is 57 mbps . But my home wifi maximum speed is 100 mbps . I can get 100 mbps speed test if i use my samsung s8 plus. Is the limit of asus max pro m1 only around 50 mbps? Can't go much higher or what is the max speed max pro m1 wifi can get ? Please reply guys thnx.
check your link rate. If its less than 86Mbps you cant hit 100 for sure. Its so wiered 6gb is showing less . Not sure on 4gb variant.

Hi, it show 72 mbps on wifi info shown on my device zenfone max pro m1 4gb variant. Weird 2.4 ghz only can reach 57 mbps highest while my Samsung s8 plus 2.4 ghz can reach 100 mbps. Same setup no download during test. Maybe it's software not optimized? Anyone please test your wifi highest speed can get how much. Thnx.
N00b disclaimer: I do not vouch for the authenticity of what I state below
1) Our device supports only 2.4Ghz WiFi, however I believe the hardware may support 5Ghz.
2) Default Wifi bonding module probably throttles the speed and tweaking the WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini will support 40Mhz and speed up to 150Mbps (Magisk module available but not tested)
3) I have checked the WCNSS file (found 4 instances) and seen that there is no channel bonding mode defined for 2.4Ghz but it is defined for 5Ghz as 0. Devs may be better able to understand the implications.
Note: I have a 6GB 601KL variant running stock rooted v318 firmware with TWRP recovery.
It means that our phone is capable of running 5G ? It requires 5ghz of band something like that . I don't know much about it . Maybe Asus has kept it as a surprise for the users inside the hardware
I just hope in the future update our device support faster than 60 mbps wifi speed.

Well Asus has surprised us by keeping the Camera2Api code in its stock firmware which is why it can be enabled with ADB without root. But don't get your hopes up !
Who use more than 30Mb/s in smartphone ?
It's no make difference in daily use.
For me, 5GHz is not relevant.
Hi.
What wifi speeds is the galaxy S9 plus capable of. I have Gigabit broadband and the max speed I can get on the 5Ghz is 160mbps.
The router from provider isn't the best
Will I get much higher speeds if I upgraded my router or purchased a wireless access point connected to 1gb LAN port and access point capable of 1300mbps on 5Ghz?
Thanks
I have 500Mbps from my provider plus custom router(DIR-882) AC2600 MU-MIMO. And this is what I can get(400Mbps) from room next to my router(3m + wall/door) : http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/4290259062
I've gotten up to about 530mbps once in a while. More typically just under 500.
You need a high end router in order to get higher speeds over WiFi
Try to change to a not frequented channel and set the Bandwith to 80MHz.
I can get 800Mbit/s when nobody other is using the WiFi.
Allways 866Mbps guys.
Tp-Link Vr900
But when i send videos to the nas usually the speed is 40mb/s
Maybe your drive in the NAS can only write with 40MB/s. Remember, that 40MB/s are 320Mbit/s.

I think that with 1+6 i was writing with 50-60mb/s.
Also my nas can write with 1gbit connection (lan) 100mb/s.
Do you have any sort of an extra firewall on your phone?
View attachment 4609511
My S9+ will connect via 5GHz to my Netgear R8500 at a LAN speed of 1083Mbps - but you have to be within 3m/10ft to get that speed. It falls back to 866Mbps pretty quickly if you are only just a little further away.
Real-world download/throughput performance will be lower.
No matter what I do, I cannot get my Nokia 7.1 to achieve a download speed greater than about 80 Mbps, using the Ookla Speedtest app. Even sitting near my (good quality) Wi-Fi router and using the 5G channel (433 Mbps link to the router) with a 500/20 Mbps internet service. I can achieve more than 400 Mbps on my wire-connected HP laptop.
Has anyone achieved a greater Wi-Fi download speed on this device? I've read all the articles about improving Wi-Fi speeds, and virtually none of it applies to my case. Or is this simply a limitation of this phone, perhaps due to a bottleneck not connected directly with Wi-Fi, such as maximum memory write speed or CPU performance or similar?
