Hi there,
Pixel 6 running Jan update and beta carrier services.
Settings app crashes when I'm trying to connect to VPN using built in client.
Weirdly, it crashes with PPTP and L2TP , but works (at least tries to connect) with IKEv2.
VPN thru provider's app works fine.
Screen recording attached.
Anyone else with this stuff?

Reset the settings and see if it works, maybe the new update takes time to get settled down!

Do you have PPTP VPN option at all?
Its a bug. You cant connect to PPTP or IPSEC anymore on android 12.
I noticed that sometimes this option will be available but then the app crashes. Not sure why it showes up, I think from a google backup or other app (blokada?).
Clear data of the settings will remove it from the list.
If you want to connect to PPTP or IPSEC use a 3rd party app like vpncilla.
Time to upgrade to a VPN protocol that's actually secure like OpenVPN or Wireguard.

Has anyone got VPN connectivity working with DCD 3.2.5? I have been trying for hours with no luck. Every time I try to connect I just get the generic unable to connect message (VPN Server problems. Verify your username and password..... I do know its not a user name / password issue. I set the VPN up and administer it. Its a ClarkConnect Community Edition Firewall Router 4.3.
I can however use the phone with Internet Sharing and connect to the same VPN end point with my laptop. I know the VPN is working.
Any one have any experience with this?

I'll be honest. I haven't really tried yet, but I am interested in getting this working myself, as I need to set it up; in addition to somehow getting this damn thing to connect to my school's network - which it has refused to for many weeks now.

Did you try using the kitchen and enabling the Enterprise IPSEC checkbox? It's the first item on the list. I assumed this was for those who needed VPN connections, so have not used it myself personally.

yep you need that for IPSEC vpn, but PPTP vpn would work without it.

Telus ROM can authenticate just fine. Hmmmm. DCD Any thoughts?
PPTP VPN works
Here is what I did:
Configured the VPN connection.
Create a nework exception for a valid DNS name or use wildcards:
*.myvpnconnection.com
Anything you go to in that domain will use the VPN. IE seems to be the only thing that will initiate the connection.
It sounds like you might have something wrong on the server side.
MM
I just setup mine to use the vpn into my office and it worked slick as "stuff"... but we use a MS VPN server with AD...
I'm able to use VPN on 3.2.5 (stock, not cooked in kitchen) It works, but often time I have to soft reset before it will let me connect. Windows even suggests it... I haven't figured out a way around this when it happens, other then to soft reset.
Also I'm having a problem where VPN locks up the phone if I leave it connected, and the phone goes into lower power mode. It won't wake up with power. I have to soft reset.
Lastly, I'm trying to figure out the fastest way to actually launch the connection. It seems horribly buried / inefficent, the way I'm doing it:
I'm going to Start -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections Icon -> Under the VPN Connection hitting "Manage Existing Connections -> VPN Tab -> Selecting the VPN Connection and "right clicking (hold until context menu pops up) and hitting "Connect".
Anyone know of a faster way?
Thanks in advance!!
PPTP and L2TP work fine here. I do have an issue where if I leave the connection live and the device goes to sleep it doesn't wake up and requires a soft reset. It's been like that for a number of revisions. Other than that it works fine.

It only works via home WiFi as it checks for a Fios IP address.
I tried setting up a VPN on my home computer and then connecting to it via 4G. As soon as I click on watch, the app force closes. Hope someone could make it work over non-WiFi either by VPN or without. :good:

How do you get it working? Mind sharing instruction/steps and any software/apps you got it to work? I tried OpenVPN running on Win7 but the FIOS Mobile didn't work over WIFI outside my home. I also tried native PPTP VPN setup from Win7 and that didn't work as well. I have Note2 running CleanROM ATT SE 3.0. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I use the native VPN in Windows 7.

Did you forward the PPTP port in your router? Try restarting it after making changes.

Thanks so much for your input! I did setup port forwarding for PPTP. I figured the issue now which is BitDefender running on my Win7 blocking the traffic. Now the FIOS Mobile app works over LTE outside my home. Thanks!
Im still having trouble with this. Im using windows vista. Im assuming for it to work if I ever manage to set it up currectly that the pc will need to be on at all times? I have a spare phone that is at home always connected to my router, wonder if I could utilize that.

Yes, you need a PC running all the time as a VPN server. PPTP is the most easiest to get it working but it's blocked by companies all the time so you will never able to connect from your office to home. I use OpenVPN where it supports encryption and you can configure the port you like to use but not just PPTP. Using 443 or any other secured ports are preferred.
Here is a good guide I found to setup OpenVPN.

Correct, the idea is to VPN from your phone back to your home PC to make your phone or the FIOS Mobile app think you are still at home. That's why you need VPN.
You need:
1. Port forwarding from your router to your PC running OpenVPN as VPN server.
2. OpenVPN app installed on your phone.
3. FIOS Mobile app
4. VPN from your phone back to your home, redirect all traffic back to home and obtain an IP from your home.
5. Run FIOS Mobile app. If VPN is working properly, you will see all available live channels, if not, you will only see a few one and there is a warning message telling you that you can view more channels at home.
That's it and enjoy your TV anywhere.
PPTP is much easier because by default it routes all traffic back to your home and the FIOS Mobile app should work fine.

Check Windows Firewall service if it's running as well. Also a quick note to that PPTP uses IP protocol 47 (GRE) as well. Just opening port 1723 will not be enough. GRE is not tcp/udp but it's an IP protocol. Just FYI.
Windows Vista supports PPTP server as well.

Hmm I figured maybe since my version of vista doesnt support remote desktop that maybr it aldo doesnt support VPN. I have a Verizon Fios router and cant find any options about GRE, ill have to investigate further.

I have Verizon FIOS router as well and it's a pretty old one.
It should be at Firewall Settings --> Port Forwarding --> Find or type the IP of your PC and select "Application to forward" --> pick PPTP
Save, and you should see a rule something like this.
PPTP
TCP Any -> 1723
GRE
Thanks! I am finally able to connect to the VPN! The only problem now is that even though I'm connect to it I can not access the internet at all from my phone when its connect to the VPN server. It shows on windows that I'm connect to it but if I right click it and view status it shows IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity: Not Connected. It only shows Media State: Connected. Any ideas?

PPTP is very unstable especially using Windows. I prefer using OpenVPN as service. It works for me all the time.
Any takers? :good:
Doing the VPN setup as well
I plan on using a DD-WRT router (Running OpenVPN) to connect with no PC required & one at my office so i can use the Samsung Smart TV FIOS app at work on the 50".
I will keep yall posted!

Yes, it should be pretty simple to hack the app. Surprised no one has done it. I'll offer a $10 bounty. :cyclops:
Curious if anyone else has experienced this issue? Since upgrading to android 4.3 roms, I have not been able to use my home proxy correctly. Connections to my proxy have been successful, in that, android still reports internet connection, however when using apps (that are blocked on my work wifi) are showing no connection. 4.2.2 roms all work fine.
The app I'm using is ProxyDroid however I also tried setting the proxy in native settings with the same result. Is there a change in the implementation of proxy services since 4.2 roms? Thanks in advance.
Maybe it will work with Drony or SandroProxy

Drony, is the wrong kind of proxy (server not client). SandroProxy isn't working either though (I mean in 4.3), however its very difficult to use; It's possible I screwed up setting it up (still was showing 'listening 127.0.0.1').
Drony is subset of SandroProxy so it acts the same way. You probably need just Drony.

Interesting implementation. Perhaps I will try it again. I'm curious is there a widget for quickly connecting/disconnecting from proxy's? Unfortunately running through my house its not a very fast connection (one of the biggest reasons I went with ProxyDroid, there is a quick connect/disconnect).
Drony will go on if active wifi has proxy set on localhost 8020.
It goes off if wifi goes down.
What can you miss with Drony is that not all apps will work.
For example WhatsApp do not respect androiod os proxy settings.
To have all working you need rooted phone and SandroProxy.
It install his own local copy of iptables to redirect all traffic.
But has more features and it is harder to set up as you find out .
It is more a developer tool than a plain proxy.
There is some wizard to help you out.
And acts the same way as Drony listening if active wifi has proxy set that points to it.

I'm going to be using public wifi a lot and wanted to use a VPN to keep my data secure. So far, I've tried SurfEasy (which disconnects every five or so minutes, rendering it useless) and DroidVPN (which won't connect at all, telling me the server is full or my user name and PW are incorrect, even though I'm already logged into the app).
Can anyone recommend a VPN that will work with me just setting it up in the phone's VPN settings under More Connections, instead of requiring an app download?
Do a quick Google Search for "Open VPN". Should be exactly what you are looking for ( no installation) just be sure to download the certificates and watch when they change the passwords (every month or so).
OpenVPN also let's you run your own from your home PC. That's what I use. It took me about an hour to read some guides and get it set up.
I actually meant to put VPNBook. Open VPN is like what @brizey mentioned for rolling your own VPN

Is there currently a way to mirror my S9 plus while using the VPN called PIA (Private internet access)? I can mirror to my tv without issue until I turn on my VPN and then it disconnects. Thanks for help in advance.
That's really weird. I didn't know VPN interferes the mirroring. Did you try other vpn services or this is a known issue and doesn't work in general ?
Using without VPN turned on it works perfect. I can even mirror without VPN on and then turn it on and it will disconnect. No haven't tried different VPN's. I have read this has been a known issue for some time but pretty new to VPN's so didn't know if a work around had been figured out. I only use screen mirroring if I am watching something and my wifi signal is not great at home at that moment. Cell signal is always better.
That depends if the VPN client and VPN Policies allow you to access your LAN while using the VPN tunneling...
If it does not allow you to see your LAN while connected you are done...
Check if you VPN provider and client allows you to work in both networks at the same time

You can exclude individual apps from the PIA VPN in the settings of the client.
Open the PIA app (don't activate) touch the hamburger menu top left and select Per App Settings. Scroll down to the app you want to exclude and toush it to change the lock icon from green to red.
If you've got the kill switch on, then turn that off.
