I have one Rom installed on my phone and it's already not the original one. I want to install the latetest version of a different one (from Ressurraction to CrDroid). I know how to do it and I know that I will have to format everything.
I don't have google drive or any google services installed. I do have access to a computer where I could just push and pull things with adb.
All my apps are form F-Droid, except for a few that I've manually downloaded, such as WhatsApp.
So, I have a few questions:
1. How do I fully backup WhatsApp so that I can restore it again, after formatting everything? When I follow WhatsApp instructions it just doesn't work: I receive a message that the backup could not be restored. Is there a way to make sure it would work? Maybe even backing up everything with another program?
2. Is there a way to back up all other APPs and data and everything installed and restore it in the new Android release? I've tried to manually use adb push/pull but it doesn't work.
Thanks in advance
For instance, under GNU/Linux you can generate an archive of your /home/user directory and extract it in your new computer and ALL your data from all installed apps will be restored just fine. You might need to reinstall all apps again, but the data will be there!
How to do something like that on Android?
You give me the impression that you have Magisk
Simply use Migrate app to backup all applications , contacts , call logs and messages , this should be enough if you are only installing new ROM
But if you are wiping the whole internal storage ethen
Also manually copy The WhatsApp , DCIM,Document ,Download,Pictures and other important folder to your PC via MTP and restore them

My phone is LU3700, which is one of three korean versions of O1, and I don't think it differs a lot from P500 in this situation.
The recovery is ClockworkMod recovery v3.0.2.4
I backed up three times, and deleted former two backups because I was lack of space in SDcard.
All the downloaded apps and updated system apps such as market or helper won't be executed.
When I try to execute a problematic app, it says "Application is not installed on your phone"
In the settings->applications->manage applications, the list of apps is still there, and for each app Data/Cache are also there but Application isn't(0.00B)
I guess it could be just a simple problem like permission or configuration?
Even if all the applications are really gone, I can re-install them so it's not so big deal. I just want to save the time to install them.
Is there anything I could do in this situation?
P.S. Maybe there was too small space in the SD card when the third backup was made...I think I saw a message saying the backup was completed but I'm not so sure.
Oh, it IS a big deal since I can't use even market or helper(i frequently use it)...if not it's not possible to restore, could anyone teach me how to backup those data?
this happened to me too. i think that the part of the app that is located on the sd card got deleted (if i remember correctly, these "parts" should be located on /sdcard/.android_secure, which, for some reason, does not show its contents on the phone but only on the computer, at least for me). you can always backup your apps using titanium backup and i recommend keeping only one backup at a time so you dont get confused between each one and also for the sake of space. or, instead of using titanium backup for your apps, you can make a nand+android secure backup in recovery, which also does a backup of your app data (i think)
you can confirm all of this by plugging in your phone to the computer (usb mass storage) and check the /sdcard/.android_secure folder
edit: and as for trying to restore, if theres nothing in your android_secure folder, then you have to start from scratch (unless one of your nand backups was a nand+android_secure backup)
I'm afraid that's not the case. it is not only App2SD apps that aren't working right now. they used to work without SD before.
Flash the rom again. Start everything again.
I've been trying to restore my chats from my Galaxy Fit with whatsapp version 2.11.175 to my Galaxy S3 Neo with whatsapp version 2.11.238 with no success! I transferred my sd card which contains the whatsapp folder(old). It didn't work. So, I copy/pasted the database & several other folders that weren't there in the new folder (the 2.11.238's folder) from the sd card one and reinstalled the app. This time it asked if I wanted to restore the found backup or not...to which I clicked the restore button...After few seconds, I got an error saying it couldn't restore & continued synchronizing. >_<
Is there a way to restore all the chats? Without rooting?
Please help guys! Thanks in advance!
The whatsapp folder in sdcard only include some audio files and pictures/videos, not your chat history. Since you are non-rooted user, you can try helium (download from playstore). It can be used without root to backup data of your apps (of course this includes your whatsapp account and chat history), but you will need to install a pc client to help you on that. It's very easy to set up, head over to the playstore and give it a try!
Can anyone help guide me as to which folders/files i can delete from my phone?
I can't install any apps from google play store as there is not space enough to do so.
Code:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/free-internal-storage-deleting-personal-t3350780
I have read this but i would like to free up some more space than just "LOST.DIR"
There is still a lot of leftover data(i think) from the previous android OS installed. Is it possible to delete some of these files manually? I know how to connect as storage and i know how to push and pull using the ADT bundle, and i'm willing to learn more!
Can anyone help ?
I suggest:
1. Browse through your apps and pick carefully which you can live without. It's easy to not realize you never actually use some of the apps.
2. Clear their datas and uninstall.
3. Backup user apps with Titanium Backup. Make a Nandroid backup (can never be too sure) Save to external or move to PC.
4. Recovery mode: clean flash your rom.
This way you have a clean slate. Files from your previous rom and everything should be gone. Just install Titanium Backup and restore user apps as desired.
Either use an app like CCleaner from the play store.
Or you can see my tutorial for a fresh Android 6 (or 7) with repartition :

Thank you for your help.
Hello,
My phone (redmi 6 pro) is rooted, I dont use Gapps and use all other social apps like fb, twitter and whatsapp without any issues.
The situation that i get stuck at is when I have to take the WHATSAPP BACKUP before installing custom rom.
Since i dont use gapps so i cant take backup at google drive, so i take manual backup of whole whatsapp folder to my sd card BUT after installing rom and whatsapp, when i run the app then whatsapp dont recognize sd card backup and I end up loosing my chats.
I also tried copying the sd card whatsapp folder to internal storage but no luck.
Please advise how can i retain the whatsapp backup in this situation?
Thanks,

Always zip WhatsApp folder manually by rar app on phone or pc anytime you want to keep backup. After installing new rom or resetting phone restore back the WhatsApp folder using rar apk. This is the convenient way because I don't allow Google to backup my WhatsApp files. If your Sdcard hosting the WhatsApp folder is not corrupted, just zip the folder and unzip with rar app to the internal storage. But do that before you install WhatsApp apk, meaning the WhatsApp folder must be unzip first.
Use this rar app;
Thanks, i will surely try out this solution...
Out of curiosity, have u ever tried taking whatsapp backup with titanium and restoring it after installing new rom??

Not tried titanium before.
Good evening all together, does anybody know an app or a method (possibly via ADB) to save the user apps including data / settings, so that I can restore the apps with the corresponding settings relatively easily after a factory reset? Titanium Backup, for example, only works with root, I have already tried. The Mi Mover only saves the .apk files for the new installation, so not really helpful. I thought about using adb / fastboot command to create an image of the DATA partition, but I think this will fail because of the encryption, right?
Anyway, I am grateful for suggestions.
