I'm quite new to the phone tweaking world and many things still seem blurry.
I saw there is a thread for rooting the aforementioned device with android 10. Wanted to ask if the method is the same for devices with android 11? Mine is running android 11 with the latest patches.
If I decide to play with it can I follow the guide posted in https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...lash-official-firmware-13-march-2020.4029833/ ? Does the currently installed version of android require different method for rooting the device?
Thanks in advance.

Hey guys!
I haven't rooted or messed with any of my Android devices in a long while, so I'm a bit rusty.
After searching and skimming through countless threads, I still have no idea whether I qualify to unlock my bootloader nor how to actually go about this process.
I would DEEPLY appreciate any help given!

Hi - welcome to the HDX forums. The options available and difficulty implementing them are dependent on the version of fire OS currently installed on your HDX. Bounce back with that and someone will likely guide you to the appropriate thread(s).
Keep in mind Kindles are not like most Android devices. It's easy to create a nonrecoverable brick flashing the wrong stuff.
I am currently running 4.5.3.
I understand the risks, and I'm willing to do anything in order to unlock this amazing device.

Your options at 4.5.3 are constrained. At present there is no reliable method to unlock the bootloader or install an alternate recovery (eg: TWRP). If you have the 7" model (13/Thor) you can roll back to a previous version of Fire OS (13.3.2.8 based on Jelly Bean), upgrade to 4.5.2 then root, block OTA, install gaps, etc. Or you can stay at 13.3.2.8, install Safestrap and the excellent Nexus Rom (based on JB 4.2). You may see references to earlier Fire OS builds, TWRP, CM 11/12, etc. Unfortunately, those options are currently unavailable given you are starting at 4.5.3.
I don't believe rolling back to 3.2.8 is an option on newer 8.9" models (14/Apollo) and few reports suggest Amazon won't do it either (preferring to replace the device with a reconditioned model that may come with a lower firmware level that can be more easily exploited). That said, things are changing rapidly. Check back frequently!
If you have the the 7" model start here. READ, READ, READ before attempting anything! Ask questions along the way. Recovery is difficult/impossible if you make a mistake. Tools/techniques you may have used (eg: fastboot cable) simply don't work on the HDX. Good Luck!
Edit: I was told to ask this in this section of the forum so here goes.
Hi,
some time ago i bought a 50€ chinese tablet to mess with. It has android v4.0.4 on it and is very slow/ has a lot of useless stuff. In my attempt to educate myself on Android OS, I'm trying to build my own custom rom for it using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801690
I'm at the point where I could repack my work and flash it to this tablet, but all i've achieved so far is simplified version (less random apps and few tweaks here and there) of existing rom.
I want to update this tablet's android version but I'm completely unsure how I'm supposed to do that and google isn't being of any help as the search results are just bunch of those irritating blog posts that in nutshell just explain how to plug your usb cable into your pc.
No updates are provided by the manufacturer himself (duh).
Do I have to get desired android version's source code and integrate it with existing files or something?
Any help is appreciated.
I want to test custom ROMs before installing them on a phone, but all i have found is this outdated guide being copy-pasted everywhere:
https://paperknots.wordpress.com/20...sdk-emulator-before-installing-to-your-phone/
Current Android SDK doesn't work like that and neither seem to do older SDK versions, making this guide useless.
Is there a way i can test custom ROMs on a PC android emulator before actually doing it on a phone?
Bump~
hi, any new for your question, i want test my rom too.
Hello everyone.
I'm a more-or-less experienced desktop developer (currently PHD student - mainly I develop desktop apps for social sciences research) and sadly an absolute amateur in Android development. To the topic though:
- I need a safe and amateur friendly way to root my Tablet: Huawei Mediapad M3 LTE version, 32GB, currently with Android 6 (for some reason Huawei says Android 7 should already be there yet it ain't available for me). What I need this root for is just one thing: Linux Deploy. I need to be able to work on-the-go and having access to my linux apps is gravely required to do so (mainly Atom for general coding, R for statistics, Pycharm + IntelliJ or Eclipse for my actual development job and several others as I currently started learning JS too).
- I do NOT need to flash custom ROM's (I'm fine with my Android 6 as it is). I only need Linux Deploy and being able to grant some apps SU privilege.
Reading around those forums I found several "solutions" to root my device but as it is my first rodeo I'm still kinda scared of loosing my fresh acquisition to my own incompetence. What I found are:
- KingRoot/KingoRoot - both seem to be heavily accused of stealing personal data, and as I move around with research data of my own and from other scientists it seems like a no-go for me.
- Multi-stage Bootload, TWRP, SRK rooting which scares the hell out of me at how complicated and error-friendly it is.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m3/how-to/root-success-t3489547
- Some flashing tools from here, which mostly are directed at flashing ROMS.
https://www.xda-developers.com/root/
- And awesome CF-Auto-Root that looked like a perfect thing just made for me, until I realized it's for Samsung devices only.
Getting to my question/request now: Can someone either confirm rooting EXACTLY my model of a tablet in a certain way or just guide me through the process in less erratic way than this topic:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m3/how-to/root-success-t3489547
...which is linking to several other topics which in turns are linking to several other pages, which in the end is about as clear/understandable as a muddy river and as well organized as my life lately (hint: it's NOT organized).
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to step up and help
Best Regards
Nec
I hardly root my phones anymore, so a bit rusty with all this rooting game. I hava a tab s6 running android 10 and want to update it to android 11 and maintain root. I also have custom recovery installed and I don't mind having to lose all my data. Can someone please point me as to how I can update?

Thanks buddy, that's the thread I followed and all good now...
If you have a fast, stable platform that's fulfilling its mission let it be.
In case you haven't noticed Android is in a high G flat spin with no clue how to recover.
Maybe be more like iphone seems to be their lame plan. Android's been walking two steps backwards for every step forward since Pie.
