Hey everyone, so I was planning on getting the pixel 6 on launch day but i was disappointed with reading about the so many bugs especially that I had bugs with the pixel earbuds 2 made it useless.
I was going to jump into the apple world and get an iphone but the telecom company offered the pixel 6 at 230 CAD, which made me wonder again if it is worth paying a lot more for apple.
Also I like vanced and no ads on android.
Any advice?
I would rather use a flip phone from 2001 than an I phone. Does that help any?

But can you deny the fact that apps are better on ios and they use the phone camera properly, while camera on 3rd party apps on android is really bad?
I am not familiar with the bug for the buds, but most of the major bugs on the P6 have been squashed. The fingerprint reader has improved somewhat, but could definitely be better.
230 CAD converted to $180 USD which is a steal for this phone. What kinda strings are attached?

2 years plan but that's covered by the company.
I have the option to cover the cost of phone over 24 months installments but not sure which is better pay it all or over 2 years.
if its lock bootloader I woudlnt get it.
the camera is worth 300$ by it self, and the fact that there is every chance the comminty will still have updated roms in ten years is also worth the 800$ google is asking.
apple could bone you dry tommorow if they decided to shut down operations. with apple you have zero choices.
How much is $230 cad in US dollars?
My guess is $150 US.
To answer the question, yes that is stealing the Pixel 6 for that price.
Crapple has no customization, period..
For sure it is worth it, are you paying more per month on a subsidy or is it a bring it back plan?

all (new) phones sold from official sources in Canada are bootloader unlocked, including Google Store, Carriers and Best Buy.
If you're getting it from somewhere else, check the model # (google it and you'll see if its a verizon model or)
But yes, that's an amazing price. The Pixel 6 is like $799 in CA

I can't really tell what you're saying because your grammar is so completely wrong, but I do get the general impression that you're complaining about the camera?
1) ALL camera software receives the image data through the SAME HAL, and it is in the HAL where a lot of the image work is performed.
2) Post-processing should NOT be done during shooting. The whole point of POST processing is that its done AFTER in order to tweak the image based on what you need to get out of it.
3) Ever image I've ever received from an apple user has looked like GARBAGE.

Google has informed us that before the end of the calendar quarter (aka before 2017), Nexus devices and the Pixel C will receive a developer preview for Android 7.1 Nougat. It's unclear which Nexus devices will receive it, but the 6P and 5X definitely will, and the 6 and 9 might.

No surprise they're not going to release their major Pixel selling point to Nexus devices. But yeah, the Nexus is dead. This menu updated have gone now.

REALLY?
I bought a 6P because i like having the latest version of Android and I also develop on it. And because google promised it (which turns out as false advertising, at this point)
What now? Will be only 7.1 delayed or every release? We will see another major upgrade?
By what I saw today, google's intentions are not anymore in the nexus line, so I can't even expect another major version of Android this time around.
Google may haven't lost money, but they surely lost a lot of customers trust. And trust isn't easy to build.
But it seems they couldn't care less.

Couldn't agree more. At this point I'm just convinced that Google is lost. They are trying so hard to re-invent themselves as some kind of Apple/Samsung/Amazon Wannabe that they have screwed everything up. I mean come on, Pixel EXCLUSIVE features? Seriously? Delayed releases for the Nexus Line?
Google you have just lost a customer today. My wife and kids wanted to move away from iPhone, and I was hoping for the Pixel to do so, but there's no way. I'm not even sure where to go now. I hate TouchWiz, I want a phone I can unlock the boot loader on, root, etc. Maybe the LG V20 will turn out better, but it's been MIA now for weeks.
I didn't realize until today how high of standards I hold my 6P too, and how I'll not be able to move away until something truly amazing comes along (and I'm really hung up on having front facing stereo speakers now)

Yup. I started android with HTC. Was burned with promised OS updates on the Hero, gave them a second chance and was burned again with promised OS updates on the Evo LTE, jumped to Nexus to avoid having that issue ever again and here I am wondering when we are going to get updates and what "features" are they going to withhold for no reason other than greed.
As a former huge OnePlus fan, it's time to say goodbye. I never upgraded after the 2, the phones got more expensive and the upgraded features didn't justify the additional cost. I've been running my OnePlus 2 on DU 11.5 for months now, the ROM development just never got to where we all hoped it to be. I blame OnePlus for this not giving the developers the tools needed and really hindering their success opportunities.
A huge thanks to all the devs who have and still put work into keeping this phone development alive. Until we meet again.
As for where I'm going. I'm a 2 phone guy, one for work and one for personal. I'll be switching my personal over to the Samsung A5(2017) which is an incredible phone. And my corporate phone will be an iPhone 7...
Farewell. I'm personally not buying OnePlus again.
Oneplus is still using USB 2.0 in the OP5, over 2 years after the type C spec was published. There is still issues with jpeg compression in their phone app and it is not adjustable. Not releasing decent camera blobs for devs to use in their roms, etc. Oh yeah, premium pricing too. No thanks, I am done with them too.
My carrier has the LG G6 on sale right now, I think I'm gonna try that. I love the idea of a wide angle lens, and the Google camera app with HDR+ is confirmed working on it.

Some good points here, yes, OP2 is still a good phone even in 2017. OnePlus turned it's back on it in pursuit for more ka-chiiiing, and 3, 3T or 5 haven't done much to make them sooo much better. But prices, oh my. Just got OnePlus spam in my mail, new OP5 model with more memory already! What? How much?
6GB RAM + 64GB Storage
499,00 €
8GB RAM + 128GB Storage
559,00 €
So I went to see my order from february 2016. I got 64GB one at the time when 32GB was available. Mine was 345€ minus 40€ for coupon. So 305€. Guess what OnePlus, I won't be settling.

Come on, stop. OnePlus 2 was not a good phone, is not a good phone and would never be a good phone.
How can you say it's a good phone when you see User Experience is so bad with the Snapdragon 810, when there is so much thermal throttling every time you are doing something on the phone ? (don't talk about underclock / overclock / custom kernel / etc, those are elements which are flashed after by the user, and are not relevant for every users).
When you can see that you can buy a OnePlus 3T for 350E on Ebay (what I did, phone is in perfect condition), you should not even consider buying the OnePlus 2.
Never had those problems, but I am not using it for games. Phone works just fine - not saying it is (or ever was) a great phone, just a reasonably good one. Mostly let down by software and company which became greedy, and yes, while being the latest thing at the time Snapdragon 810 wasn't that good. Still it works for all basic needs, even after 2 years specs are almost impressive and user experience can be ok. *Not* a power-user experience.
Not comparing it to flagships because it never really was in that category, and you also should put it in it's price bracket, you bought used 3T for 350€ while OP2 when new was 300€. So there's that. After having it for a year and a half I am surely not considering buying another one or recommending someone to get OP2 or any OP actually. For that user experience and satisfaction should be on higher level.
Actually i will buy oneplus again. Why, because it's cheaper then the rivals much cheaper. And i really like my oneplus 2, spent 100 euros for it, really cheap and good phone.

Hi CertifiedBlyndGuy, if I am not wrong then you're the AOSPA maintainer for OnePlus X. Are you building AOSPA for OnePlus 2 as well ?
I just got the Pixel 3 from the Pixel 2 and I have to say, it's a nice phone, but I cannot say there is a huge noticeable difference. When you throw in the camera mod for the Pixel 2, the Pixel 3 is better on paper, but overall, it generally feels like I bought the same phone and Google is probably laughing at me.

I just don't think the phone is actually a huge improvement esp with the ability to do night shots with the Pixel 2. They literally changed one or 2 items and jacked up the price. I haven't met anyone i know yet so has legitimately disagreed that the Pixel 3 is worth $799 payment to upgrade to over the Pixel 2.

The only reason I upgraded to the Pixel 3 was because I could get it for $400 on Black Friday. I was expecting the issues to be overblown but they weren't. I should RMA my Pixel 3 but I'm hesitant to do so.
I just went from a Nexus 6 to Pixel 3. My wife has an OG Pixel. While the 3 is an improvement in every way except ergonomics from the 6, it isn't that much better than her Pixel. She will get a new phone after her's goes off support in October of next year and probably wait until the 2020 (Pixel 5?) phone. If somebody else is paying for your phone, then yes, upgrade, if it is your own cash, I would save it.
i only bought the pixel 3 because of the $150 off deal that took place. Coming from a 2 XL dont think its worth the upgrade at reg price.
Wireless charging alone is worth it.

Pixel 3 is absolutely not worth it IMHO until Google fixes all the outstanding issues. Specially RAM management, heating issues, buzz in speaker... It'll all probably get fixed in December update.
Then if you already have a Pixel 2, mine is running real nice and smooth after november update (had had jankiness since Pie) and most of the issues have been ironed out after a year and some. Other than the slightly bigger/better screen there are few reasons to go for P3.

Meh this year there is no innovation anywhere they are just re releasing with better chipset thats all.
Not worth it at full price. Definitely get it if the deals are as good as Black Friday. The louder speakers, 128GB (from my Pixel 2 XL 64GB) and wireless charging was definitely an upgrade to me. I'll be paying $400 give or take after I sell my Pixel 2 so it's really worth it because I couldn't stand the Pixel 2XL's display quality no more. With the Pixel 3XL everything just pops out of the screen it looks so good

From a Samsung, just not having the bloatware is worth it. With any Samsung phone, you need to manually set everything to back up to Google by default instead of Samsung's own clouds. That alone makes it worth it for me not to have the manufacturer or even carrier's junk pre-installed that you CANNOT uninstall.

I also have the 5X no bootloop. The camera on the phone was good at the time, but the phone itself just is very underpowered and really was the old Google. I won't ever get rid of it until it stops working. More of sentimental value, plus still getting updates !
Nexus (all of them)= Pure android experience, cheap, but laggy and full of stutters.
Pixel (all of them)= Pure android experience, great camera, and smooth.

Fair point, but it's just that if I think like that I'll have to stick to the mate20pro for another half year or so, most other "flagship" android phones have already been released for this year.. I reckon that the S10 or S10+ are the only ones that come close to the mate20pro in terms of camera versatility, battery, size, and I'd also get the headphone jack, which is nice.
Still not decided whether to sell it or not. I could sell it for max 400 EUR now...
In case I sell Mate then probably will chose between OP7 Pro and S10+. Each has pros and cons, but certainly I will miss Mate's camera. And charging speed (ok, OP is close here). And 3D face unlock..

So you'll stick to the mate20 pro for another 10 months or so? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything, we might be lucky and they figure it all out in the next couple of weeks/months but it could take much longer and then the re-sell value of the mate20pro will be very low (apart from the risk of not having an updated Android version).
I have the same problem. Only phone what can change is P30 Pro but good one model, without reed, orange color problem in camera.
S10 Plus is finr but still no even close to Mate 20 Pro.
Im still on my Mate 20 Pro and I cant change it, because P30 Pro is still expensive for me. But the price is falling day by day for my Mate 20 Pro.

Right, same here - the only "real" alternative is the P30 pro :silly:

Only the Pixel will have Android Q this year anyway and it doesn't contain anything EMUI hasn't already got so why rush to change

For me it's related to the security updates, maybe we'll stop getting them within a couple of months, we just can't be sure at this point. If that should happen (hopefully it won't!) the phone wouldn't sell for anything really, so it's sort of sell while it's still sellable.

Yep, thinking exactly the same. Sadly for me there is no proper alternative right now.
OP7 camera is dissapointing (according to feedbacks on OP forums), it has ghost touch issues (probably SW related, so fixable)..
S10+ on the other hand has desperately slow charging, camera is good but still a no match for Mate's in poor light conditions
Well, probably will sell my Mate soon and anyway take one of the above devices. As you say, it may happen that in few months this phone won't be sellable

All this fear for security updates. It's a phone, don't goto all those free download sites.

It's great if that works for you guys.
But it's a relatively new device, I'm not really ok with not getting security updates. There's a reason those are rolled out, and it's not just to protect users from shady download sites.

Be honest now, when have you ever checked security update schedules for any of your devices since mobile phones became common place? Before purchasing.

Well, it seems they have just stopped or at least slowed down production dramatically

You are right, it's not the first thing I look at. The truth is that I started worrying more and more about security as I got older, probably because I have way more sensitive information now than I had in my teens (banking apps and stuff, emails, whatsapp which yes, I could all remove, but that defeats the purpose of a smartphone) - it's the principle that matters.
Also, another thing is that it could well be that in some months we all have to install Ark OS, which allegedly will work with android apps but that's not what I signed up for when I spent almost $1k on this phone.
It's like buying an electric car and after one year they tell you that it's a hybrid now.
Got an iPhone XS Max 256 GB and i love it ! I still have my mate 20 pro. Maybe I will sell it but I got used to iOS so quick and it is really good. I got a used one from swappa less than 800 and it works great. I’ve been an Android fan for some years now but I think I might like the iPhone better also I live in USA and iMessage is a must here. Don’t be afraid of using other OS. Camera is great as well. No night mode or ultra wide but the standard pictures IMO are more flattering and taking pictures it’s instant. I took a bunch of pictures and colored side by side and surprisingly I like the iPhones better. Just wanted to tell you my experience

All current devices will continue to receive security updates and access to google play, Future devices may not but as it appears Google and Huawei are working together. Of course everything published is negative is that not the way it always is? Doom and gloom first then reality. I just bought a P30 Pro on device upgrade yesterday for cheap 350 in canada and my mthly plan stayed pretty much the same as it ws prior, in fact I got more data , I am in Canada. I am not too concerned, in fact if I opt for the Mate 20 I can save another 100 but damn the 10x zoom is so appealing, yet to open box
I think this is not a really big issue, even if you can't get auto update on your Huawei.
Google can't stop you install the software
such a nice phone what a pity to throw away
I'll probably get Pixel 4 or Pixel 4XL somewhere in November - December. Don't want one more Chinese phone anymore.
I have an unlocked Pixel 6 that is a year old but in perfect condition. Google store has the Pixel 7 on sale for $499. But the kicker is they are offering $479 on a trade in. I pay monthly for Google's insurance so no loss there.
First question, what's the catch? Second question any reason not to jump on it?
everything i read its not worth upgrading from a pixel 6 to pixel 7. there are no real advantages.
so really its going to be about need a fresh warranty which never hurts and needing to be on the bleeding edge which can hurt.
Availability!
Pixel phones remain niche products, it seems that Google is unlikely to learn from Samsung or Apple and make Pixel phones available all around the world.

I was thinking along the lines of a fresh battery and less worn out charge port. The brighter display and face unlock are nice bonuses.
My real question is are there any regressions?

fresh batter is not much in a year with the better charging in android 12+ the charge port should be good for 10 years minimum, and face unlock is software not hardware.
if there was even one regression it would be months before its found as it would likely be a hardware issue that was missed by google, much like the wifi and other issues with the P6 for the first 6 months. which you might have to deal with with the fresh p7 as new unknowns issues are found.
Even if you sell your phone on Ebay, you must add $200-300 to buy Pixel 7. Only benefit you get - amoled display. Your phone is pretty good now and buy P7 only if you bored and want new experience.

So the price to get new one only $50? Then I don't understand, what are you waiting for :-D

That is correct. I ordered it already. My one fear was some showstopper bug or regression but no-one responded with one.
