Hey there I got used Xperia 1 phone with firmware J8110 but on the back cover is SOV40 which I assume it used to be SOV40 but the shop flashed J8110 to allow using international carrier maybe.
In order for VoLTE for my carrier to work, I flashed SEA OEM file on Customised UK OEM firmware which makes the VoLTE works!
Now I saw other Xperia phones forum, if the bootloader unlocked it will degrade the image quality taken from the phone's camera. I am quite concerned about it, does changing firmware without bootloader unlock (just OEM unlock on developer options (to flash other firmware) but still locked bootloader because I cant unlock the bootloader) will degrade the phone's image quality?

Will updating or debranding or modding xperia x10 unlock the phone, it was locked to Rogers Canada but I unlocked it recently with an unlock code? It is running 1.6, any advantage of debranding or updating to 2.1 is enough for now. Thanks
No, the only way to unlock the phone is through an unlock code. debranding simply takes the branded bootscreen off, and allows you to have generic firmware, so that when ota uodates roll out, you don't have restrictions imposed on them by your carrier (or the carrier the firmware was through rather).

Hi All,
There have been many confused members (especially the noobs) who do not understand the difference between unlocking and debranding so I wanted to start this thread to clarify this matter once and for all.
Debranding/Flashing: : This is when you flash some firmware other than your original operator's FW. For example, if you have an AT&T or O2 branded X10, when you flash/debrand generic fw (or any other fw of your choosing) you simply get rid of the "branded" software pre-loaded on your phone. Hence, the term "de-branding". This does not mean that your phone is unlocked. You will still have to use your original operator's SIM card, like AT&T or O2, to use your phone EVEN AFTER flashing/debranding your handset.
Unlocking: This is when you "network unlock" your phone and are able to use it with any GSM operator you choose other than your original operator. For example, you have an AT&T or O2 branded X10 and you want to use it on T-Mobile US or UK, can you do that after simply flashing/debranding? The answer is NO. Why? Because your phone still requires a special code to be entered before it becomes network unlocked. For further reading, please go here.
FAQs:
1. If I flash to generic firmware using Bin4ry's flash tool, will I unlock my phone?
No, you will simply debrand your phone but, you will still need to get the unlock code.
2. If I debrand my phone and then unlock it but, I would like to go back to my original branded firmware, will my phone become re-locked to that network again?
No, once you unlock your phone, it will remain that way no matter what firmware you flash in the future.
3. How do I know if my phone is network unlocked?
The simple way is to pop in another operator's SIM card, for example you have an AT&T branded X10a, then you can use a T-Mobile SIM card. If your phone reboots and you do not get a "enter code" screen and you see that you are connected to the T-Mobile network then your phone is network unlocked and can be used with any GSM operator.
Another way is to go into the hidden service menu. In the lock screen (the one with the swype animation) press the following sequence of buttons (Home, Back, Back, Home, Back, Home, Home, Back). If you are on 1.6 replace Home with Menu. Then go to service info --> SIM lock. In the top line, if you find this [X] Network 10, then your phone is locked. If you find this [ ] Network 10, then your phone is unlocked.
4. How can I get my unlock code?
There are a few sites from which people were successful in getting their unlock codes like MobileInCanada and CellUnlocker. There is also a thread by Xda-member "Lancez" here who can provide unlock codes for a fee. Currently, there is no known method of unlocking your phone for free.
I hope I have clarified this matter for everyone.

I'm looking at picking up a SM-G965F/DS (FACTORY UNLOCKED) for use on the USA T-mobile network. The one I'm looking at is reportedly Region free (no region lock) and SIM unlocked. . So a couple of questions:
1 - Should I be fairly safe in my ability to bootloader unlock and mod this version of the phone as described above?
2 - To get the OEM unlock will I use my t-mobile SIM for 7 days to make OEM unlock available or will the date hack work:
How to fix the missing OEM Unlock button on the Samsung Galaxy S9/S8/Note 8
3 - I'm familiar with unlocking and installing on older devices such as the OnePlus One, and Nexus series of devices. Is the process for the S9+ fairly bulletproof like those devices? I mean, they were all pretty forgiving to a little "Oops" here and there. No one needs $700 brick.
Received the phone today. Cannot get OEM Unlock to show even using the above mentioned method. Anyone have any luck to share on the this model #?
Did you ever figure out how to get the oem unlock fixed. I just bought a Claro s8+ sm-g955f and no matter what I try the oem unlock remains missing in my developer options
Hi,
I'm not unfamiliar with rooting/unlocking/flashing phones at all, but everywhere I turn there's a roadblock for this one that I can't seem to get by. I've never owned a carrier branded phone before so maybe there's some extra software lock that goes into the devices?
First off, let me state my purpose, which is to flash my ATT branded S21 with an unbranded firmware and/or to root and remove bloat.
1. Trying to flash with Odin multiple U1 XAA firmwares will cause a SHA256 error. Can't test with ATT firmware because ATT doesn't release it.
2. Fastboot won't detect my device in Download mode, selecting "Reboot to Bootloader" in recovery goes to normal boot. Tried Google drivers, Samsung drivers, no luck. ADB detects in sideload mode. Can I repack a firmware into a ROM and sideload it?
3. OEM Unlock is completely absent from Dev options. Tried the time trick. No dice.
Has anybody else done this to an ATT phone?
There is no OEM unlock option on any of the US phones, however to get the U1 firmware to flash you need to download the patched ODIN from here. After that it won't give you anymore SHA256 errors.
Make sure the firmware you download has OYM in it, not OYZ. You can see what I mean here.
OYZ will flash the Thom Browne firmware, which you most likely don't want.

Holy HECK. I knew it was something stupid and simple. zimgir124 you're a saint and I really hope somebody finds this thread useful in the future.
I was this close to returning the phone. Welp, looks like I'm a Samsung guy now. Time to tip that ODIN guy.
I may be in the same boat as I purchased an S21 from Samsung.com with ATT firmware. It is carrier locked to ATT and neither Samsung nor ATT are capable of unlocking the device. ATT claims they did not receive an unlock code since the imei is absent from their database. Samsung claims they send unlock codes automatically to carriers at time of manufacture but that they are unable to provide individual unlock codes post manufacture. Is it possible to flash a carrier locked S21 with U1 firmware to have an unlocked device? This might be a better option than going through the headache of an RMA.

No it don't work like that. Must be unlocked through company or any legit 3rd party service
I would like to get the oem unlock option on my t-mobile z fold 3. Is this possible after flashing u1 firmw?
I'm planning to import a brand new Japan version of Pixel 6 from a shop. I was told that the phone is not locked to any specific carrier and can be used on any network. Since the phone is not carrier locked, is that mean the bootloader can also be unlocked? Is there any relation between locked carrier and locked bootloader? I wanna buy a phone which can have unlocked bootloader ... The shop people said they won't be able to check OEM Unlocking status.
Depending on the country you can be carrier locked without being bootloader locked. For example, in the US, T-Mobile I believe carrier locks the device but does not lock the bootloader. AT&T and Verizon however lock both and will not remove the bootloader lock.
I'm not aware of the Japanese P6 having a bootloader lock, but I am not an authority on it.
Reading the topic how to convert the Japanese version to Global, which requires Root, there is a very high probability that the bootloader can be unlocked.
Carrier unlocked has no relation to unlocked bootloader.
Cheers
Tom
I have a pixel 6 japanese version GB7N6, and i already unlocked bootloader, root and change region.

I am pretty sure unlocking bootloader on T-Mobile variants requires a SIM unlock first, this has been the case for my former OnePlus 9 Pro and I've heard the same for this phone.
Otherwise, the OEM unlock toggle is grayed out.

Thanks. I wasn't sure, and I think my post made that apparent, as I don't buy my devices from carriers.
When I received my device 1 year ago, I checked to see of the oem unlock switch was greyed out. It was not at the time and the phone was not branded. I bought it through Xfinity, so I popped in the sim card and started the activation. I know its normal to download branded firmware, but it locked everything. It has been about 6 months since I bought a new phone and Xfinity's garbage firmware is still locking up my pixel. ADB fastboot fails at bootloader unlock. I went online to check my devices and they have removed my Pixel from my devices list as well. Is there a way to sideload the original unbranded Google firmware without unlocking the bootloader? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
There is only one firmware for all variants of the Pixel series. While some carrier software may install when the device detects a carrier SIM, the firmware is not carrier specific. The only difference is the occasional modem updates that might contain various fixes and improvements for specific carriers, but this does not affect the system image. If OEM unlocking was available before you connected to the Internet, that was probably your one chance, as sys.oem_unlocking_allowed is set by means of checking the IMEI against an online whitelist.
To make sure I understand you correctly, are you trying to unlock your bootloader or not? If you bought it through Xfinity instead of Google, it might be subject to carrier rules on OEM unlocking.
Am following. Tho I already have arooted P6a from google, I'm considering switching to Xfiniry cuz I'm already a broadband subscriber. Still on the fence tho...Verizon's not too bad...
