Hello anyone, I am the new comer of the XDA. Nice to meet you here. Let move on to my questions.
I have a HK version Xperia 1 III(XQ-BC72), and I love the device.
However after I received and upgraded to Android 12(61.1.A.1.149), the nightmare comes.
There are bugs on Android 12 and I does not like the UI and some of UI interaction logic.
It makes me so upset and very regret it.
So that I have an idea to downgrade the firmware from Android 12(61.1.A.1.149) to Android 11(61.0.A.23.20).
I already seen the "How to Guide" to know how to unlock and relock the bootloader, and flashing the firmware so on.
But I still some question here. Hope someone can answer...
1. DRM things
While unlock the bootloader, DRM will gone.
But relock the bootloader and using Xperia Companion to repair, most of the DRM may come back that I know.
However, using Xperia Companion to repair will update to latest firmware.
So, is there anyway to get back the DRM without using Xperia Companion?
(Or, does Xperia Companion repair is the only way can get back some of DRM keys?)
It is good if the DRM key can back.
2. Exclusive Functions
Does unlock and relock the bootloader will cause some function loss?
The Xperia smartphone have a Trim Area(TA) that I know. If the TA is missing, some functions will be loss.
I know Xperia 2021 device does not have hardware function loss after unlock. But how about the exclusive function such as Dolby, DSEE, Creator display mode?
I does not want there are any function loss, include exclusive function.
I know unlock the device may void my warranty, so on I will not unlock my device and take this action before my warranty is over.
Even through I does not have a plan to start it yet, but It is still good to know everything before get started.
Hope someone can answer the question, thanks.
You do realize that if you "downgrade" that you will no longer receive OTA security updates?
Best thing to do is get used to 12. Learn it and after a few days you will not even notice the difference.
Either that or try and find a custom ROM that will receive updates like LineageOS.

Android 12 on xperia have some big issue, for example the latest android 12 version on Xperia 1 II will never play 4k HDR video. If it's only about the UI i agree with you but right now there are same broken features

I hope i'm not saying a wrong thing but with newflasher you can flash any official firmware (even older) without unlocking bootloader

I know what I am doing here, that why I am asking for it.
I love stock Android and Sony function so that I choose Xperia.
If Android 12 is a great update, I don't mind it, even I can continue to stay in Android 12.
Android 12 changes some UI logic and UI design, I can try and learn with no problem.
But Android 12 is very buggy, it such a pain. That even worse than Android 11.
That is the main reason that I want to rollback my device system to Android 11.

Nope, I tried to flash the older firmware without unlocking the bootloader.
But it failed, a bootloop appear. Because the Android Rollback Protection is here.
I just do some research here, it need to unlock the bootloader to reset the vbmeta rollback index to 0 for flashing older firmware.
Seem unlock the bootloader is the major step to downgrade the system.

This is exactly what I would like to know as well. Is there a way to downgrade, then re-lock the bootloader and get the DRM restored as described here while keeping the old version?
Xperia 1 - DRM keys back after locking the bootloader ?
Hello, I just have a question, my Xperia 1 was unlocked and rooted (magisk) on Android 10. Yesterday, I decided to lock the bootloader, everything was erased from the phone after that. The new Android installation was buggy so I tried to...

Hi community,
as far as I read nougat has been torn back from sony. Anybody updated before and has a smooth experience? Would like to update too.
Downloading and starting flashtool does not give me the check updates tab, so is anything wrong or has the device to be prepared?
Does this way need root or unlocked bootloader or something else?
I hoped taking a virgin z5c and flashtool would fit to check for updates, find the device and firmwares according to, choose one of and flash?
Isnt it that easy? Any ideas when nougat from sony official will be provided once more?
Thank you
There were a couple of serious bugs in the Nougat release, hence the draw back by Sony.
Maybe in a month or two, we'll see a fully working Nougat ROM for Z5C.

I'd suggest to wait too. Backup TA, Root and use Xposed instead. The only thing that is a bit more handy is split screen mode. I have audio bugs and thermal issues running nougat.
hi all,
if I root my phone, what I will lose apart from camera?
Is there any working camera for rooted devices? Whatsapp camera/Instagram camera will work?
I've bought this phone just to root it and I figured out I can't

Hello, I'm sorry for my redundant question.
My only biggest fear is that developers stops supporting drm fix so when a new update become available, people who rooted their phone will be stuck with old software version.
I don't know if this ever happened, since it is my first sony device.
So if anyone could report their experience with drm fix support over time it will be great
However, I found a tool over here called xperifix. I may give it a try
If you have doubts about rooting your phone it certainly means that you shouldn't do it. Otherwise if you want to do so that bad just stop updating your phone when support stops.

You don't lose anything using xperifix or Jan Jan kernel. I don't think we lost support so easily, Xperia Z2 was supported until latest stock firmware, XZ is still being supported on last current firmware. But like nick0s23 said, if you have fear.. Think it twice.
What are the chances that this device will get TWRP and Root?
Not that I know... But this seems to be the best android tablet around now considering the price. Furthermore, its born with Android 8, which means it will be treple enabled thus the adaption of vanilla Android or others should be easier. Likewise, this should also improve security patches. I hope that someone will bring it.
Any progress of Rooting the HUAWEI MediaPad M5?
I want to buy it cuz my old Pixel C is sadly broken, but I wanna wait till it gots Root and Custom ROM:
@Marcopoloy13 I am in a similar situation as I would like to retire my old Nexus 7 (2012) and I am quite optimistic that TWRP will be available quite soon, as there is a device tree for the Honor 9 available and the Mediapad M5 sports the same SoC ...
As I am receiving my Huawei Mediapad M5 PRO next week, I wanted to look for root ... Is Huawei known to make a fuzz about root in case of sending it in for repairs etc. (I have a Samsung-past, friends of mine had issues with their support due to root ... ) ?
I am very new to Rooting, i just want to get linux deploy on this tab to install Debian. I have unlocked the bootloader the rooting is very hard.... i have no clue to what i am doing and was following the guide on this awesome forum but the imaging and so forth is not somthing i understand.
i have the CMR-w09 (non pro)
Unlock the bootloader?
How did you unlock the bootloader? I tried the “Huawei unlocking page" mentioned at Kingoapps website, but it didn't find anything about unlocking or bootloaders.

For any WIFI only device, contact Huwaei via Phone (they rarely answer mails, so dont write one), explain the problem using their site (WIFI only device, therefore no IMEI etc), provide them your tablets serial number and let them send the unlock code via mail to you. Takes usually two business days until you have the unlock code.
hello,
since the Honor 9 isnt getting any security fixes anymore what can we do
about the BlueFrag security hole?
https://www.andreafortuna.org/2020/...-critical-bluetooth-vulnerability-in-android/
It seems right now the only chance would be phussons android 10 GSI
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/how-to/android-10-t3993461
since there are no Custom Android 9 or 10 ROMS with latest Google Security Fixes - correct?
If someone figures out how to bypass the bootloader that huawei put, then we can start doing this roms thing, until then, unfortunate people like me are stuck at a locked bootloader.
Well i can technically do the whole process of flashing my board again using dc unlocker and then unlocking my bootloader while I'm at it, but that's too much hassle, man, plus you need some money to spare. It's not worth it anymore unless you absolutely have to, I'm just happy with a working phone lol
thanks for answering - i'm also stuck at EMUI 9.1
and with this method?
wouldnt it be free?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/how-to/downgrade-unbrick-honor-9-imei-fix-t3934363
then we could try some of theses ROMS out

Nope, u have to pay for it, and yeah, i'm waiting for them to find an exploit on the security that huawei put in their gpu turbo update, bec. that's the root of our problem, i heard that if you downgrade to a non-turbo firmware, it's gonna brick your device, so might as well be patient until the guys at dc phoenix figures out how to read bootloader codes on emui9.
Also I saw that openkirin has hw buttons fixed, i think it's the capacitive buttons fix that people often lose bec. of installing twrp, so i'm excited for that day that we can install openkirin roms

to unlock bootloader, try the potatonv method. I commented it here:
Using Honor 9 after EOL / Unlock bootloader / Flash custom rom
Hi everyone, since Huawei apparently dropped support for the Honor 9 a while ago, I'm getting concerned of my phone being a security risk as the Android security patch is of july 2019. As my 3-year-old phone is still working totally fine, I was...

Hi all,
I'm considering to get a Z5C, but I need VoLTE working. I know that VoLTE is working with the stock ROM, but how about Lineage OS or other custom ROMs? Does anyone have hands-on experience with that? Any suggestions much appreciated!
Cheers,
r.
VoLTE is definitely not working on any LineageOS ROM, no matter what version you are using.
Ok, thanks for this info. Here's two more questions:
1. You wrote "LineageOS" - do you know of any other Custom ROM where VoLTE is working?
2. How about VoWLAN aka Wifi Calling: Will it work with custom ROMs?
Thanks.
r.
1. No. My guessing is, that some IMS related stuff is missing. We (unofficial LineageOS devs) have tried it, but we failed. The normal telephony function has been compromised.
2. I don't think so (see above).
I'm sorry.
Ok - thanks for your efforts anyway!
VoLTE works mostly only with T-mobile firmware.... but you have to flash this firmware... stock z5c dont support this.... if you flash it "with your country local operator firmware"..... will VoLTE work...100% T- mobile speciallity....
You can flash it by yourself, but be sure you dont have phone with unlocked bootloader.... if you make it after, you loose IMEI and mobile is 4 parts only....
Thanks for that info and the warning! Did you try it yourself with LOS? I have already unlocked the boot loader to ...well, install LOS. But afaik it is possible to lock it again using flashtool. Is that what you did?
I have had many Z5 compacts.... first was with unlocked bootloader.... I did know nothing before.... so I have tried flash it..... not finished, error.... started phone, No IMEI at all.... only Wifi worked No Simcard read, so I used it 4 parts - crashed display.... and for study how to dissassamble all. It´s nice when you know how to dissassamble hole Z5 compact and reassamble new one
Since then I buy only Z5 compacts with factory locked bootloader, OEM locked, from normal users....VIRGIN phones they are perfect 2 flash.... also i have had one piece, there was Lineage os before to anroid 7.1.1 returned, opened bootloader... and it has non functional cameras and flash.... no hardware problem, it was because of unlocked bootloader and this Lineage OS. Somebody bought it from me to use it as a bike navigation
I have relocked the bootloader via Flashtool... but cameras were still kaput 4 ever.
Installing Lineage OS or unlocking bootloader can (or relocking bootloader after - I dont know) destroy cameras and flash lighter..... on 7.1.1 android. It will not destroy cameras on android 9. Fx sony XZ1 compacts..... but you will still loose some functions of cameras + codecs and so on.
If you do so, there is no way to fix it back....
Unlocking the bootloader no longer breaks the camera on Sony Xperia devices running Android Pie
Unlocking the bootloader of Sony Xperia devices running Android Pie no longer totally breaks the camera like before, but not every feature will work still.
