Question Rooting a Pixel 6 with unlocked temp OEM bootloader (T-Mobile) - Google Pixel 6

Hello, I got T-Mobile to unlock my OEM bootloader for 2 month temporary. Is there anyway to root it while it's temp unlocked or is there a bigger chance of the phone just bricking/locking up.
Thanks.

From what I have read, that temp unlock only unlocks the SIM card. That means the bootloader will still be locked.

I'm not entirely sure about that. I thought I saw once the sim unlock was in place the oem switch became active. And @daveybfilms once you unlock the bootloader it will remain unlocked unless you lock it manually again. Not 100% on either of those assumptions.

From everything I have seen the temp unlock from T-Mobile will not allow for the oem unlock toggle to work. Though admittedly I am struggling with my permanent sim unlock and oem unlock too so I may also be incorrect.

There is another active thread about this same thing. You might want to jump on that one and combine resources.

I gave up on pointing people in the right direction. And helping keeping the Pixel 6 thread cleaner.
People do not even do the basic search before posting and there have been some really dumb questions lately.
So let the peeps wade through the garbage to find what they need.
I am just going to take care of myself.
Good luck..

[Q] Unlock the HTC aria from AT&T

is there a way to unlock this device from AT&T carier to any GSM without buying a code from the offered sites??? maybe some playing with the boot or something...
As of yet I don't think there has been anything on this method of unlocking. There is another thread here about unlocking the phone, but I can't link it right now. Pretty much all I can say is wait and see what happens. I think we might be stuck for the next couple months untilled at&t decides they want to let us unlock the phone.

Did his $10 code work or did you have to use the upgraded, more expensive service? Thanks a lot. I'm currently having all sorts of issues trying to unlock my phone from eBay.
The $10 code worked right off the bat. I paid for the item, and got the code in my email in 10 minutes. Plugged in a decrepit SIM from my trip to Singapore, and the phone came up with the SIM unlock prompt. The code was accepted with no issues.

Ah, thanks. I guess mine is just in that 1% that cannot be found in the normal database. Guess my only option is to pay for the expensive unlock... bah.
What Excatly does unlocking the HTC Aria do?
What does buying this unlock code do for the HTC Aria, what benifits would a user gain from this? Would i be able to change my boot screen, cause i would love to do that
It'll allow you to use the phone on a non-AT&T network. I'm trying to get mine on T-Mobile, to be specific.
@chaley80 - What you're looking for is referred to as "rooting" the phone. Basically, you need to have superuser access to the phone, to allow you to modify things like the boot animations. There are instructions on here. Its very easy with Revoked. All this type of unlocking does, is what shirleeey said, just allow you to use it on foreign GSM cell networks.
after a few months you can call up at&t and ask them for the unlock code, they have to give it to you

That's true if you are an AT&T customer, but if you're like me, I've never had my Aria on the AT&T network so I had to Sim unlock it as soon as I got it, over a year ago Cheers.
Going along with unlocking it, would it be possible to use the Aria SIM free? E.G. with just the basic functions, no cell radio, but it should still be able to connect to your home wi-fi. Almost like an android ipod touch in a sense. I think that'd be pretty cool.

Just turn the phone on without a SIM card inside it.
If you're on a stock ROM it'll need to be activated with one first.
Then after it's activated you can leave the SIM out as long as you don't wipe data/factory reset
Let me rephrase that slightly, would there be any way to get rid of the "insert SIM" message?
@WinSuk: I'm running CM7. (Going to try your CM9 as soon as headphones work. Excellent job BTW )
I knew that I could take out my SIM card and my phone would still work, just wasn't sure to what extent. I figured there was something I would have to flash or other.
Thanks for your time,

Sorry for the confusion. I don't know if you can hide that message, but the phone otherwise is not limited in any way.

It's chill. I see; I did do some browsing around, but there was no specific way to hide the message... at least none that I could find.
I'll be getting a new phone in a few months, but still wanted to keep my Aria to mess around with, hence my question.
Once again, thanks for your time,

How to Unlock ATRIX for going abroad?

Hi everyone,
I'm a UK user and will be flying to Dubai in a few days. Is there a ROM I can download that will unlock the ATRIX for me? I want to be able to use it in Dubai using a local network/sim.
Would I have to get a specific unlock code or could I just root the phone instead which would unlock it?
Orange customer. I need it unlocked asap.

No ROM/program. Rooting/bootloader unlocking are unrelated to sim unlocking.
You can try purchasing a sim unlock code from places online. I believe celluunlock or something is popular. But I remember seeing posts or threads that it doesn't always work or there long delays in getting the codes.
Other option is to call your carrier (guessing Orange), tell them your situation and ask if they can provide you an unlock code.

My SIM unlock took about 15 minutes and cost $20.00. The Atrix has been out for a while now. I suspect that SIM unlocks are pretty routine these days. If your carrier won't do it, or is too expensive, ask the unlocking people how long it will take.

[Q] SIM Unlock for st18i ?

Does anyone have any confirmed success SIM unlocking the Xperia Ray st18i ?
I've found a couple of sites that claim to be able to do it using a mixture of connecting pins with tweezers and paying for unlock software, but don't really want to pay unless I know it is 100% genuine
Or if anyone knows of a free way to SIM Unlock the st18i, that would be appreciated
Cheers

Yea thanks, they gave an unlock code which didn't work, then eventually admitted they couldn't unlock it and refunded £20 credit as an apology
Unlock shops have been unable to unlock it too
Everything I have read says you need to connect 2 contacts near the battery before plugging in USB and using software to unlock it, which explains why the carriers code didn't work
Why can't u check bootloader unlock status because of it does allowed then you can flash custom kernel and Rom which then unlock SIM lock.
Here is the instruction to check
First, you should confirm that it is
possible to unlock the boot loader of
your device by checking the service
menu. In your device, open the dialler
and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to
access the service menu. If you have
a tablet, click here to learn how
access the service menu.
2. In your device, tap Service info >
Configuration > Rooting Status . If
Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes,
then you can continue with the next
step. If it says No , or if the status is
missing, your device cannot be
unlocked.

No I guess that's not right. Sim lock and bootloader lock has nothing in common, only if the carrier locks the bootloader and makes it impossible to unlock. So I guess unlocking the bootloader won't unlock your Sim lock, but I'm not sure
Btw is your bootloader even unlockable?

I was able to Bootloader and Sim Unlock Xperia Ray ST18a(i) but it cost me $10 to do it. The Carrier could not do it. I used FastGSM. I don't know exactly HOW this process works but it does work. It involved connecting Test points which I believe temporarily open a way to insert a SIM Unlock certificate which may not be genuine due to the fact that when your carrier buys the phone from Sony or another manufacturer, they are factory locked in other words, the network lock is inserted into a secure partition. I believe the test points open up this secure partition for inserting another Certificate through the s1tool. FastGSM uses a program which when you log in, checks to see if you have credits, and once that stage passes, it downloads and inserts this certificate into the secure partition. It also unlocks the bootloader in this process allowing you to get Fastboot mode. This is what I believe, not sure if it is actually the case. However, I wasn't just merely satisfied that my Bootloader and SIM are both Unlocked. I prefer a technical explanation of what this process does and HOW it works. Ofcourse, the unlocking source are not going to tell me how they did it. But I believe they got their hands on the certificate that gets inserted once the EEPROM is temporarily unsecured using test points. I firmly believe SIM Unlocking should be free and should be available to anyone who wants to go at it. I believe the Warranty and other excuses they give such as warnings about security etc are redundant and pointless. If you look around, just the process of Rooting is daunting enough for most 95 percent of the population, so I don't think people would go around unlocking their phones even if the information was made available. Most people wouldn't even know about it.
Next time, purchase a phone that can be easily unlocked, Do some research. Although the $10 I spent unlocking is not a big deal, I personally do not ever want to pay a single dime to network unlock a device that I already own. Here we have to pay $50 to the carrier to unlock it. I would rather help people by giving them information on how to do it for free. Then they can go void their warranty if they wish. People who care about warranties are not going to bother with any of this, which begs the question, why are SIM Unlocks such a tightly guarded secret, and what can we as a community do to thwart the efforts of these Carriers to keep us locked in such a way that the device we own is deemed useless if its not on their Air.

You mean SIM (or subsidy/carrier) unlock? "Unlock" can mean various things, such as bootloader unlock, but that is typically not paid for, so I assume you mean SIM unlock.
You can do it for free with S-off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708572
You can also fill out a form online to unlock through AT&T, if you meet the requirements: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/?
The above listed link is detailed for SIM unlocking but in the end I decided my time was too valuable and I used this site (Less than $4) - unlockcode247 dot com
Bought a code off ebay, 1.99. Emailed code in like 20 min.

What happens to SIM lock if t-mo phone is flashed unlocked software?

As the title says, I have t-mo branded phone, will the SIM lock disappear after flashing firmware from unlocked phone? I don't think it will, but maybe? Also, how would you unlock such a phone then? Anybody knows?

Sim lock has nothing to do with the firmware
if you flash the unlocked firmware on the t mobile device, the actually t mobile unlock app will not be on the phone. however the phone will still be sim locked to t mobile. If you plan on unlocking it soon, stay on the t mobile firmware so you have the access to the unlock app in the t mobile folder. after you unlock it through t mobile, restart the phone and the app will go away. I'm not sure if you can unlock the phone under the unlocked firmware without that mobile unlock app.

You'll just have to find a way to get it to prompt if that is even possible. I tried a different sim and it give you a messaging saying you have to use the unlock app.

Part of me feels like that would be too easy of a solution. Not to mention I finally got mine unlocked via the app but through all the trials and tribulations with TMobile they did the traditional unlock code request. The email came back looking like others I have seen in the past except where it said "Unlock Code" it said to use the Unlock App on the device..
We are are still left with needing a code from TMobile.
So im in a similar situation. I've got a Tmobile Note 8 which i'm using on ATT. I got a tmobile sim from a friend and had tmobile temporarily unlock it for 30 days. I hope by flashing this firmware (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884) for ATT, i can get it permanently unlocked.
OR
If the Device Unlock app is frozen or unisntalled (via root), i wonder if it can still relock the phone.?
Did anyone figure out a solution to this problem (bought T mobile Note 8 on eBay and cannot unlock it!). Worst case, can I open a new T Mobile account for $70 per month and then cancel it after 40 days and THEN unlock the phone?
