Question Pixel 6 or Older Pixel - Google Pixel 6

Looking for an opinion in terms of is it worth buying Pixel 6 or better stick to an older pixel?
I'll be using it as a secondary phone for travel and photos for the house etc. Also would like to have the device rooted to benefit from a certain application.
Which device is recommended if budget is not an issue?
Thanks

I had a 2xl before, liked it more

If photos are super important Pixel 6 Pro. I use a regular 6 because I didn't like the curved edge screen on the Pro. My family has had an OG Pixel, 3, 3a, and 4. The 6 is the nicest of the lot, assuming you like the size. My wife is sticking with her 4 because she likes small phones.

How can you compare a Pixel 6 with 5G,
to an older Pixel?

Well 5g was available on the Pixel 5 too... but more practically, I really don't see any difference in regular use between LTE and 5g at this point. I'm sure that will change over time, but in my experience the switch-over has not happened yet.

I think Google offering 5 years of security updates on the 6 makes it a winner over older models which will hit EOL much much sooner.

Is there any phone that even comes close to our Nexus 6P?!

Hey all,
Like some other fellow Nexus 6P users here I'm sure you are getting curious of what other phones are out there, that can please our every geeky need.
But I just can't fine one - everything I want is in this phone!
I have been looking around but yet I always keep drawing up a pro's and con's list in my mind and can't help but sum up the 6P as having:
- Great battery life (once tweaked accordingly)
- Dual speakers
- Perfect display
- Fast and reliable
- Great size
- Access to latest Google updates
- Great camera (the best I've had on a smartphone)
- Etc.
Though despite all this, the desire to at least 'window-shop' and look around for the next greatest phone is still there. The new Xiaomi Mi Mix looks interesting, as I feel like I could go bigger on the screen size. Same with the Phab 2 Pro, the 6.4" size appeals to me but then seemingly I'd lose out on the great camera (low light especially) and the dual speakers.
Anyways I thought I'd start a thread to hear some other opinions on this, if any other released/to be released phone has almost got you swayed into parting with the beloved...
Sorry
But calling Nexus 6p screen perfect
That's weard
The screen is ****
Really old AMOLED with bad colours
Coming from a 2013 Droid MAXX, the screen is perfect for me. Guess for someone coming from a Samsung Galaxy would feel differently.. but yes, this phone is just about perfect. I especially like the camera's low light capabilities.

Haha.. glad to see I'm not the only one who looking for another phone but hard to decide bc I too love my 6P.
Been thinking of the One plus 3 not really a upgrade but something different but waiting on the One plus 4 . But it's gotta have good Dev support and the One plus definitely has that.
But still looking at others as well.. undecided bc my 6P has been a perfect fit for what I like in a phone :/

I too am pretty dang content with my 6P, esp. with some of the "Pixel exclusive" features we've gotten
However, I won't deny that the 4GB/821 specs inside the Pixel XL are tempting at times...but I'm thinking I'll either get my wife a normal Pixel to upgrade her GS6 edge and wait to get myself whatever comes out next year, or just wait on both of us till then. I'm not as against the Pixel as some, but I'll admit that $870 (+ tax) for a 128GB, similarly-sized phone is a bit of a tough pill to swallow for me personally lol
I had the pixel for a a few days and returned it because the price difference to performance from the 6p felt negligible to me. 7.1.1 on the 6p fixed a lot of quirks I had and flashing the pixel stuff over made me more than content to keep the 6p thru this year. Looking forward to seeing what HTC has in store for their next flagship.

Hmm then it is a shame that we have such diffeent experiences with this phone - the colours, for me, are perfect - no tweaking of them required. The blacks are black with no 'bleeding'. Absolutely great for me...

Indeed, that price tag is a hefty one and one that I cannot justify spending.... at least not yet anyway. I would miss the larger screen and the speakers, being the real tangible difference. Like you say, features have/will come our way with software updates, but I really do appreciate a great sound and nice sized display - yet to find this elsewhere though!!?
The "bezel-less" Xiaomi Mi MIX does look like a nice phone. So that may tick the box of size, but would the screen quality be as nice? And the speakers? And the low light camera capabilities?? Not sure on that one...
The Huawei Honor Note 8 looks good too, very big screen which I think I'd like, but overall just don't think I'd be as happy as I am now.....
Dam restlessness eh!!
I'm definitely glad I went with the 6p also. I don't mind spending the money upgrading. Was looking at note 7 or iPhone 7 plus. But the price for the Pixel xl to me I couldn't do. I just can't put the Pixel in the same category as the other phones.

lol do you own a Nexus 6P? The display is the exact same as the Galaxy S7 screen. They only difference is the S7 screen is set a few nits brighter. Deep blacks, vibrant popping colors and great contrast. Maybe you have sRBG turned on for "true colors"? If not maybe you just have a sub-standard quality display on your phone.
there is no doubt to the nexus 6p is good device but not the best in my opinion! maybe so hard to believe but my ex device (htc M8-32 g) is far better! at the least for me!
here is some reason: I've multi rom with 3 base of Android (kitkat/lollipop/Marshmallow) and switch between the without any issues. (sense rom, google play or CM base rom doesn't matter! all of them work perfect!)but if this don't convince you let me tell you the custom sense rom developers in htc really perfect (most definitely the Viper rom of Venom groups plus insertcoin roms and sky dragon roms) having too dozens options for customize and in the end better quality of speakers and headphones sounds and have a great sound batch like Harman/Kardon sound batch and no come up short in battery even with a smaller size of battery and too smooth without any lag. may rest in peace my dear M8! ??
sure I know the nexus 6p's camera to far better than M8 but I'm not a mobile camera user and need very rarely to it

That phone does look like a nice one for its time, there's nothing wrong in holding love still for such a device! I'm in the same love for the 6P right now, for me, the best its been ever for a mobile device. But as theres only so many roms to try, my flashoholic nature starts wanting to wander into the 'next device' territory......whatever that may be haha

The Pixel XL is the same price as the iPhone 7 Plus. It may not be worth the money to some but it is the best Android phone to date. The 6p is great I still have mine but the Pixel XL is fantastic. If you like Android and could spend the money on an iPhone 7 Plus but not the Pixel XL. You need to get your hands on one and play with it. If you can get a 6p cheap it is hard to beat for the money.

If you are into rooting/modding, you can easily fix this with a custom kernal to your liking.
Answer the op. Nothing beats Huawei mate 8(soon 9) when it comes to overall phone but you have other issues to deal with. While im waiting for the Mate 9 to release and after I broke my Mate 8 I had to find a phone to hold me over.
Nexus 6p
Lg v10 and maybe g3./4
Note 5 but doesnt have enough storage for me.
Couple of other chinese phones but you lose lte most of the time.
Nothing really unless you want baby note aka s6/s7 edge.
For my personal taste, maybe axon 7 if the community is behind it. Note 7 if that whole thing didnt happen.
edit- If an updated version of the 6p ever released with half the top/bottom bezels, It would be the goat. Any htc is not in the same realm as 6p
My 6P battery was degraded. I think to change to another phone.
But I still finding...... :silly::silly::silly:
Sorry but the Nexus/Google phones have one thing that will keep me....Project Fi with CDMA-GSM LTE Switching. No other phone can do it because the software just isn't there.

Samsung devices have a "SUPER AMOLED" and the difference is noticeable. I came from a note 4 (2014 release) to a nexus 6p(2015 release) and I saw the difference in screen right away. Nothing beats a Samsung Galaxy screen, even if the nexus uses a Samsung amoled screen. I can barely see anything on this screen in the sun, which was never a problem for my note 4. Other than that, nexus 6p is a solid device.. I got it for $330 for the 64gb gold. I probably wouldn't have paid more than $350 for this device thou. Definitely feels like a downgrade from my 1 year older note 4 (sadly I broke it).
Coming from a lg v10 I was decided between a lg v20 and this phone so I bought the 32gb 6p then I'm like ok this phone is awesome but I had one problem. Internal storage was only 25gb on the 32gb variant I filled it up within a week or two then I'm like ok great phone I'm getting 128gb. I bought my fiance the lg v20 it is a awesome but the roms available for the Nexus 6p is way better than the lg v10 or 20 I had the lg v10 before this 6p. The difference is amazing, the lg v10 was slower and couldn't even keep up with me.
The only thing better than the 6p is a 6p with 12hrs SOT

i have the Note 8 and got the X... returning the X

Got the X yesterday. Lots to like but ultimately i think the 8 is better for me. Anyone else?
Ha probably barking up the wrong tree here. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone willing to switch his to Apple's IOS regardless of hardware.

I was planning to get this iPhone X but I didn't ended up doing it. I love note 8 's big screen and the infinity design of Samsung rather than apple's "fringe" design.
face id on iphone x is faster than note8 fingerprint sensor ?
iPhone x battery life looks lame, camera looks worse than note 8, screen isn't as bright (600 nits vs 1200 nits), screen isn't as pixel dense and also has notch, no headphone jack, no sd card. Sigh I also pre-order iPhone x, my last iPhone was iPhone 6 plus and I've been Android ever since, but I don't think I'll b able to ever go back, prob cancel my pre-order
My entire system is too dependent on Android, in particular how SwiftKey is so much better for me on android, otherwise would have given ios a chance. Obviously not on a x as I could not justify the insane price point.

Probably not, but I don't like the idea of having to put the phone to my face every time I want to unlock my phone. I feel like it's just so much more convenient to use a fingerprint than a face scan.
Actually it's a fantastic device. About the same speed as note 8. Screen is very good, installed apps all excellent and mature, battery good, screen very bright, size is better for holding, camera good, Dave unlock fast and not an issue (and it's consistent unlike my note 8 which sometimes just doesn't work). Many appstore apps aren't optimized yet for the screen size and look pillarboxed like an iPhone 5! Also can't believe the launcher is still the same as ever. Oh and I can create a talking turd. Yey. I just prefer the Note.
My wife has the IPhone X very nice phone and face ID works great. But I would not trade my note 8 for IPhone X.
I also have the Note 8 and got the iPhone X. I really like both. Since I have 2 lines, one for work and one private, I get to use both, so I am happy. Both phone are definitely the best phones Samsung and Apple have ever made to this point and I really like them both. (Have to use iOS for work).
Gotta say, had my doubts about FaceID, but it is great and so much better than using TouchID. More convenient than I had expected by far, plus works all of the time so far.
All that said though, if I had to choose a device, the Note 8 just does so much more.
My 11 yo son who has a my old Galaxy S8 put it like this. “Your new iPhone X does nothing my phone doesn’t do, plus I can unlock my phone with my face or my eyes or my fingerprint. You paid 1000$ for an animated poop emoji machine”. His words. LOL.

Good Choice!! I hate the IPhone and anything apple to a certain degree BUT Id give the IPonder X a chance to see if it could persuade me to Switch but...
I doubt it. I have the Note 8 and the Smaller Pixel 2 (Couldnt risk the Pixel XL with screen burn in etc) and my brother took my Pixel XL
I feel happier with a Pixel then i would do with an Iphone.

How's the battery life compared to note
I have just Orderd the iPhone X there is alot of strong points about it like the design (even the notch) i would have preffered if that didn't excist but it obviously has not detered. The Camera & i like iOS hmmm not over Android but having used previously with the 6s Plus & 7s plus i quite enjoyed.
Will be keeping my Note 8 so best of both worlds.....:good:

I think Android has caught up with IOS . Used to be the ugly stepsister. Not any more.
Just my observations
I have both Note 8 and iPhone X. I am comparing specs and other items as I note below.
Note 8 has 6.3 inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display (2960x1440 at 521 ppi), iPhone X has 5.8 inch HDR OLED display (2436x1125 at 458 ppi). Note 8 has a bigger and notchless screen. Both have minimal bezels.
Note 8 has AOD, iPhone X doesn’t.
Note 8 is IP68, iPhone X is only IP67
Note 8 comes with integrated S Pen stylus, iPhone X doesn’t come with a stylus
Note 8 has 6 GB RAM, iPhone X has only 3 GB
Note 8 has 64 GB internal storage plus micro SD up to 256 GB, iPhone X has either 64 GB or 256 GB but no micro SD
Note 8 has earphone jack, iPhone X has no earphone jack
Screen on time for Note 8 is 6.5 hours, iPhone gets 8 hours (based on my current usage)
Note 8 has basic facial recognition backed up with IRIS and fingerprint scanners, iPhone has Face ID with a sophisticated biometric security system. Face Id does have some issues at this time and Apple is aware of them.
Note 8 has no lag with multiple apps open whereas iPhone X has produced a slight amount of lag with multiple apps open.
Bottom line is Samsung offers betters specs for the buck but iPhone X is still a better choice for security and privacy.
I'm going to keep both and use iPhone X for work and Note 8 for all my personal use especially since it has expandable storage for all my pictures, etc.
iPhone X is a keeper for me, selling the Note 8

Well... Bye Felicia!
I lasted a whole 4 days with the iPhone X (Without touching my note 8). Great device. Without a doubt the closest the iPhone has ever been to android. I might last an extra couple days once they add a numbers row. And with that gaping chasm at the bottom of the keyboard I don't think it's too much to ask.
The only I see myself buying in is by literally buying in. I wouldn't be caught dead with an apple watch, macbooks are overpriced and my nvidia shield tv runs circles around Apple TV. I just don't feel that the iPhone X (or any iPhone for that matter) works as a stand-alone phone.

Pixel 3 worth the upgrade ?

I just got the Pixel 3 from the Pixel 2 and I have to say, it's a nice phone, but I cannot say there is a huge noticeable difference. When you throw in the camera mod for the Pixel 2, the Pixel 3 is better on paper, but overall, it generally feels like I bought the same phone and Google is probably laughing at me.
What say ye ?
I have the 3xl and it’s definitely not an upgrade from the 2XL. For the price you’re not getting much more

If you already have a Pixel 2, I say skip it and wait for the 4. The Pixel 3 screen has flaws, especially when you observe it at angles.

I just don't think the phone is actually a huge improvement esp with the ability to do night shots with the Pixel 2. They literally changed one or 2 items and jacked up the price. I haven't met anyone i know yet so has legitimately disagreed that the Pixel 3 is worth $799 payment to upgrade to over the Pixel 2.

The only reason I upgraded to the Pixel 3 was because I could get it for $400 on Black Friday. I was expecting the issues to be overblown but they weren't. I should RMA my Pixel 3 but I'm hesitant to do so.
I just went from a Nexus 6 to Pixel 3. My wife has an OG Pixel. While the 3 is an improvement in every way except ergonomics from the 6, it isn't that much better than her Pixel. She will get a new phone after her's goes off support in October of next year and probably wait until the 2020 (Pixel 5?) phone. If somebody else is paying for your phone, then yes, upgrade, if it is your own cash, I would save it.
i only bought the pixel 3 because of the $150 off deal that took place. Coming from a 2 XL dont think its worth the upgrade at reg price.
Wireless charging alone is worth it.

Pixel 3 is absolutely not worth it IMHO until Google fixes all the outstanding issues. Specially RAM management, heating issues, buzz in speaker... It'll all probably get fixed in December update.
Then if you already have a Pixel 2, mine is running real nice and smooth after november update (had had jankiness since Pie) and most of the issues have been ironed out after a year and some. Other than the slightly bigger/better screen there are few reasons to go for P3.

Meh this year there is no innovation anywhere they are just re releasing with better chipset thats all.
Not worth it at full price. Definitely get it if the deals are as good as Black Friday. The louder speakers, 128GB (from my Pixel 2 XL 64GB) and wireless charging was definitely an upgrade to me. I'll be paying $400 give or take after I sell my Pixel 2 so it's really worth it because I couldn't stand the Pixel 2XL's display quality no more. With the Pixel 3XL everything just pops out of the screen it looks so good

The only reason it's worth it to me, is because I'm coming from a Nexus 5X. Can't say how nice it is to have a phone that open Instagram or Snapchat in seconds and actually take a picture. I'm just not a fan of this new gesture UI.... or the clock on the left!

From a Samsung, just not having the bloatware is worth it. With any Samsung phone, you need to manually set everything to back up to Google by default instead of Samsung's own clouds. That alone makes it worth it for me not to have the manufacturer or even carrier's junk pre-installed that you CANNOT uninstall.

I also have the 5X no bootloop. The camera on the phone was good at the time, but the phone itself just is very underpowered and really was the old Google. I won't ever get rid of it until it stops working. More of sentimental value, plus still getting updates !
Nexus (all of them)= Pure android experience, cheap, but laggy and full of stutters.
Pixel (all of them)= Pure android experience, great camera, and smooth.

7T Pro vs 7T Pro McLaren Edition vs Pixle 4 XL

HI!
I am "buying" new phone serval years now, now i am decided i will buy new phone in a week
I am leaning towards oneplus (i am stile oneplus one user, since the begining)..
I would like to hear your opinion, which one of this three is best? 7T pro, Mclaren Edition (is it worth 100 bucks more for this one) or google 4 Pixle XL
tnx for help guys
Unless camera is a must, OnePlus is definitely the way to go.
This year's pixel was very disappointing
OnePlus 7 T Pro should be a great 1st OnePlus device! Cheers
Apart from the esthetics, dont think that 12GB RAM is gonna be noticeably better.
I would prefer Pixel 4 XL 128gb if its has reasonable price, better design, minimum of 8gb ram.
hmmm
tnx for respond..

I agree Pixel has better software for camera (better pictures) but lets say oneplus 7t doesnt have so bad photos?
For now, i am leaning towards normal one plus 7T pro

thats what i like to hear
I agree that the Pixel 4 cameras are the only real "better in class" feature over the Oneplus 7t. The 7t will likely get a GCam port eventually, but it may not have every camera feature that the Pixel 4 has. Everything else on the 7t beats what's available on the Pixel 4, including the price.
Unfortunately, for me the camera is probably the most important feature on a phone. So I'm waiting till Black Friday to see real "hands on" reviews of both phones and hopefully catch one or both of these phones on sale before I make my final decision. If I find a good deal, I'll upgrade and give my wife my 3a XL as it's time for her to get a new phone. If not, she'll likely get a 3a herself. The 3a series has been a great phone (but again, for me the camera is extremely important).

Unless camera is a must, OnePlus is definitely the way to go.
This year's pixel was very disappointing

Hmmm i wouldnt say op7tpro has bad camera, maybe isnt as good as pixl 4 but it still very, very good?
Hi from 7T pro, I love it
Sent from my HD1913 using Tapatalk
I'm also enjoying my 7T Pro very much!
I would say that the camera's are very good now! Not bad at all!
In the past OnePlus was not very good, but with this 7T series they made big steps in the right direction.
Also the super macro mode is much fun to use.
I owned every type of Pixel XL up till now, still owning a 3a XL and there is not much of a difference with the 7T Pro.
These threads are absolutely pointless

HI All,
I may be a future covert to a One Plus from a Pixel 2 XL. Like many I too are disappointed in the Pixel 4xl roll out. I really thought they would make a phone to totally kick butt. But sadly no and it gets me thinking in the One plus direction. Since some of may be former Pixel owners , I need to know, besides the camera , what will I miss?? I'm all about performance. Will I miss the launcher? Active edge does nothing I like. I've written to Google to have the active edge set to answer the phone, like most phones used to when the has press home button. At least My Note 5 did. And that's the feature I miss the most.
Thanks for any reponses

Camara will be definitely missed. But OP 7T pro camera is not bad. It clicks decent pictures.
Launchers can be replaced. OnePlus launcher has a clean interface. You might miss the Google feed on stock launcher, but there are alternative launchers to get the Google feed.
Lift to answer on OP 7T pro is awesome. Just put your phone to ear and call is answered. You won't need active edge
Thanks, more great info!

Question Is Pixel 6 (still) buggy? Please help with a buying decision 🙏

Greetings to Pixel 6 owners from Ukraine!!
I was a happy Pixel 4a owner for some time, but battery life upset me. The battery replacement didn't help, so I switched to a mid-range Realme.
I am missing the Pixel experience and looking forward to rejoining the Pixel family. Pixels have never officially sold in my country, and since the war started, it's become even harder to find one on sale.
Luckily, the local retailer has brand-new Pixel 6 and Pixel 5a for a reasonable price (~$600 and ~$400 with taxes included), especially considering how our local currency is losing its value each day.
Would you say it's safe to buy a Pixel 6 right now? I've seen many articles about different bugs with the Pixel 6 family... I like the design, and the hardware seems to be future-proof. On the other hand, it looks like the Pixel 5a has better battery life, is lighter (I like that about my 4a), and is more affordable. What would you recommend?
Best,
Andrii
I've had my P6 for 7 months now and I'm still super disappointed. There are constant issues with touch events not registering, apps dying suddenly, UI locking up until I lock-unlock the screen a couple of times, fingerprint reader deciding to stop accepting my fingerprint until i restart. It's been by far the worst experience, and I've been on Android exclusively since the G1. To call this a flagship phone is a cruel joke

Greetings, i hope you and your family are ok and that nightmare end soon. I have my pixel 6 for about 2 months, and sincerely haven't had the bunch of bugs that people complain, no reboots, no freezes, maybe a couple of times an app has closed, and besides with Android 13 feels faster than 12, its really stable. The majority of bugs was only on early firmwares l guess. Phone been working great for me, fast, smooth and it's one of the best camera on the (phone) market, so i would say don't worry about bugs and get the phone.
Pixel 5a it's a good phone but with the pixel 6, you get 90hz screen, better camera, future proof (in theory +1 android version support) more ram.
So all it's up to you and your budget, forget about Pixel 6 being buggy as a factor in your decision.
I have the Pixel 6 now since 6 months. Except the fingerprint problem, which was fixed in the June update, I had no issues with the mobile. One time some software problems, but these I fixed by deleting the data from Google Play Services.
Overall, a very good experience for me.
Cheers
Tom

Is Android 13 already available for Pixel 6 uses? Or are you talking about beta?
Android 13 is in its last beta phase, rollout will begin in about a month.
Got mine since 2 months, absolutely 0 issues at all, whether on 12 or 13 beta. Great battery life, amazing software experience.
Only complaint goes to the fingerprint scanner being a bit slow.
See this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/is-the-pixel-6-reliable-now.4473305/
Overall I'm very happy with my Pixel 6. I have not had the bug problems other people have commented on, it's been very reliable for me.
The *only* warning I would give you about this phone, and it's a big one, is the fingerprint sensor. It absolutely sucks for me, always has. It's bad enough for me to consider trading it in for a Pixel 7 in October. Never had a problem with the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone, but this under the screen thing is crap. At least on Pixel 6 (and, I suspect, Pro).
Honestly, if it were me.....I'd wait on the Pixel 7 unless you like unlocking your phone with your PIN most of the time. You've got a 4a and while the battery may suck, at least you're still getting updates every month. I'd wait 2 more months and get the 7 along with whatever free goodie they give for early orders (and it better not be another Buds A!).

man... the battery life on my P4A was so horrible that I switched to Realme.
However, last weekend, I enrolled my P4A in a beta program, maybe the Android 13 will improve the battery life.
Guys in the 4A thread also advise me to try some Magisk+LSposed(Zyrgist) stuff. I haven't investigated this yet, would you say it's worth trying?
Android 13 has improved most things. The fingerprint reader now works 70% of the time for me. But it has not fixed the awful modem. I still get significantly lower signal than I did with my Pixel 3 in the same areas. When I work from home (and am thus on wifi) i really like the P6. Then I go out into the world and struggle to get data and use apps (streaming music/podcasts, store/restaurant apps, etc.). I will be replacing the P6 with a 7 or S22 in October. One way or another, I only need to keep this phone three more months.
Hope you and your family are safe. I am using Pixel 6 since a month. I have not faced any issues which other people have mentioned. The finger print scanner is sometimes slow in detection but i never felt it a deal breaker, especially since the last update.
If you really love camera the most in a mobile, then I will suggest you to go for it. Pixel 6 camera makes up for any buggy experience (which is not really a lot now).

My P4A camera is good enough for me. I can't say it is among the most important things for me on a phone. The interface and user experience are.

How do you say it works compared to the one I have on my Realme? Here's a 20-sec video
It seems like they ironed out the bugs since I got it. I had some around the beginning of the year but haven't noticed any for a few months
Just wait for de OnePlus 10T to release
