Hi Everyone. I am planning to buy this device. But saw multiple reviews saying that there is issue with mic quality while recording video. I also saw a review video, where it sounded muffled during video recording. Could you please share your review about it? Would be really helpful.
Mic quality is very bad.

Is it only during recording or also bad during calls??
You have the same sound on calls (calls 4g HD audio) as when you recording video or audio only. It's because the poor quality of the mics. Compare a video recorded by mi 12, galaxy s22... etc etc vs gt 2 pro and you will know the difference of microphone. They all record audio but the thing is the quality which you will heard. Some people don't give it that much importance, others do a bit.

Does the S2 have a stereo mic, and does anyone know how well it handles loud music when video recording.
I currently have the HD2 and have always been impressed with how the mic handles very loud music, no distortion, and good bass on playback through av amp. I have no idea if the HD2 mic is stereo though.
According the Phonearena review it does (not final hardware mind you).

There was one review (can't remember it though sorry, so I can not link you to it) that clearly said the Mic sensitivity on the SGSII was much improved over the SGS.
Recording at concerts or parties was greatly improved in the sound recorded.
Any update on this? Anyone with an SGS2 who can shed some light on the sound during video recording? How well does it really handle loud environments?
HI,
I want to see if the problem is only with me. Right now I'm really disappointed from Samsung. here shows comparison of camera quality:
iphone 4:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKm-7rzfS2g&feature=player_embedded#at=124
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGAteITuZVo&feature=player_embedded#at=59
s2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TFm93qvGnU&feature=player_embedded#at=65
Quality absolutely awful compared to the iPhone 4, there are quite strong background noise (Even I was recording in a completely quiet room I can hear background noise)...
* I will note that the Hacked Camera.APK mod of Potatoman still did not help
Is my cell phone is broken or simply Samsung had blown it???
it seems that you were standing right infont of the left loud speaker, were with the iphone it seams the guy way in the middle. so it wont get so much distortion.
I have the same problem with my S2 when the outside audio level is high.
NIK516
i far from the speakers , the iphone 4 is closer to the speakers
and you can hear the different.
and i have more video that you can hear that iPhone better if you wants..
i try to fix the S2 problem mic record not to compare.
thanks
Are you certain you installed the Camera.apk correctly? 6 seconds should equal roughly 12Mb (stock is about 9). If anything this is either the modded camera (When I used it the audio was very shrill, much like the video you recorded. This is due to the larger sampling and bit rates.), Samsung screwed up (maybe this is just how the mic records), OR you were standing in a poor location (the two video weren't recorded in the same place from the look of it).
I think that being close to a speaker should not be a problem if the auto-volume adjustment worked properly. What we are trying to understand here is if this is just a problem with our devices or a general issue. Is there anybody who can confirm that videorecording live music performances with the S2 does NOT produce distorted audio?

Same problem here as well...
same problem, please help
Same problem! I would love to see a fix for that. Even a little bit of wind will screw up the sounds completely. I'm also looking for an external mic now....
It looks like you can't use an external mic either...

I just did a test with 2 different earbuds w/mic. the Camera app doesn't seem to use the external microphone when recording video, it just uses the internal mic. When I used the voice recorder app it does indeed use the external mic and makes a huge difference.

I have the same problem (record in a quite room with no noise, then when i play it back there's a hiss)
I've checked Youtube and there's only 1 video demonstrates this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pePAqjgugHM
Now is this a fault with the phone or can I fix it? Just wanted to ask before I send it back to Samsung.
The white noise (hissing sound) comes from a plastic piece inside the phone that is over the microphone. Removing it removes the white noise. You cannot do this without voiding the warranty, so bringing it down to the service center would be a good idea.
The plastic piece over the mic is like cupping your ears with your hands. HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Now that I am on Android 2.3.4, recording video using an external microphone works. I used your headphone mic and I got rid of the distortion. Has anyone tried the Brando Mini Capsule Microphone (or any other mini microphone) on their SII?
Hello all,
I use the asus transformer prime to record HD video at my friend wedding, and the the sound quality is really bad.
It looks like the prime didn't normalize the sound while recording.
Does anyone notice this?
not trying to be a downer, but what kind of sound quality did you expect? You'd need an outboard sound recording device to get any sort of decent sound quality at all. a Zoom h1 may be your best bet
I recorded videos around Christmas time and it picked up sounds very well.

I am not expecting any like HD sound, but at least It should normalize the sound wave.
I recorded at the same place with my iPhone 4, and the sound is normalized so that I didn't get red zone sound. Video sounds on iPhone 4 is way better on the Prime in my experience. Please test and share your inputs
This happens to me as well. I took a video of just one person talking into the camera, and the audio playback sounded very poor. When filming again on an iPhone 4, the sound was fine. That's reasonable, though; a phone should have a decent microphone.
Is no one else noticing how thin and bassless the audio sounds when recording a video on the GS3? I don't own one yet, but every single time i watch a video the audio results are the same.. I sure hope this is just a bug and not what to expect from the mic for video recording? If you check phone arena there's a comparison with the camera of the s3 to like 5 other phones, they all have much better sound during video recording...
You can see how all the other phones have a much bassier sounding recording, espically for voices.. I'll concede that for 'wind' noise having less bass can be helpful, i'd rather see this as an 'option' to turn on or off rather than just have 0 bass the entire time you own the phone.
I've seen it rarely mentioned here but this is a major let down to me, having FANTASTIC video quality but really lackluster audio.
yepo me too i have only just discovered by putting it on the tv via the sd card the sound is very tinny..
yep!!! the sound sucks! I was very excited recording a video of my K&N filter and OH CRAP!!!!
Currently I have a Samsung GS3 and I've been thinking about picking up an HTC One. I go to a lot of concerts and one of the major issues I have with the GS3 is the terrible audio quality when recording loud music. I know I'm not going to get studio quality sound when recording with a phone, but I'd at least like to be able to make out the song - this is not possible with the GS3 because any time there is loud bass, it distorts so badly that the entire recording is unlistenable. So my question is this: Has anyone recorded a loud rock concert with the HTC One? If so, how was the quality? If anyone has a youtube link to a concert they recorded, I would be very grateful. TIA.
From my experience, the audio recording quality is pretty good compared to my old Galaxy Note. Here's one at a club.

I don't think there's any distort in the audio but you can listen and hear for yourself.
Sent from the "ONE" phone for me
Yeah that sounds way better than the GS3. Thanks
