Does anyone know where we can get the PIT file for this thing?
Every website says to get it from the Firmware and pull it out of the CSC file; but when you download this model's firmware, there is no such file as a PIT in there. When you open the CSC file, all you see is Optics.map , Optics_base.map, Prism.map, Prism_base.map...
So every website shows some PIT file; but there is nothing in the firmware, so where is it? How can I get it?

Actually read the above. It is not in the firmware; hence why I am asking WHERE or WHO has a copy? I only see 4 files and does not match anything on any of the message boards about pulling the PIT file, so this Note 20 seems to be different...

I did read above the pit has always been in the firmware somewhere. Normally csc. What you need the pit for. I'm kinda knowledgeable on these specialy since I own a note 20. But you never even listed if you have a us or a euro version so no one even knows which one you need
Look for an older firmware. A12 might be gone. Look in a old a 11 csc and it will be there.

You need the PIT file in order to flash the Combination File; but all this is in the original post. I will take a look at the A12 firmware; but once again it would be nice to get the original PIT file for my specific model.

Just a quick question about the PIT file. im not to savy about what it exactly is, from what i can tell it is the system file and atm all the current EU firmwares use EXT4.PIT.
Does this mean i never have to update the PIT file as long as the firmware uses EXT4.PIT?
im going to update my s2 to I9100XEKE1 later and when i flash it in odin i also put in the PIT file what would it do?

Per the instructions in the thread, DO NOT TOUCH PIT FILE.

A PIT file is just instructions explaining the partition layout. You must always use a PIT file matching the current partition layout (i.e. the orignal PIT file used to partition the device) unless you are repartitioning. If you are repartitioning then every you must re-download everything (PDA, CSC, MODEM, etc.). You also need to ensure the PIT file is compatible with what you are downloading. Some PIT files might use partitions too small, for example, for the firmware you are downloading.
Yep. Pit is just a layout of the drive, nothing more or less. If you reflash the same pit, you've done nothing. Its a partition which comes after the PBL and helps it locate a bootable SBL.

Hope this is not too much of a thread drift but may relate potentially to the PIT file.
I think I may have unwittingly changed the PIT file when using ODIN.
I definitely placed a PIT file in the PIT window.....doh
Would this cause my WiFi to not work? I have tried a number of ROMs and they all work fine apart from the WiFi, which is always off and then shows error when you click to switch it on.
If this is the case that the PIT file has corrupted this, how should I go back and correct it?

I want to flash I9100XWKE7_XEUKD1_XXKE4 onto my i9100.
I downloaded this file from samsfirmware.com I9100XWKE7_XEUKD1_XXKE4, but it does not contain any files for Odin. It only has a I9100XWKE7_XEUKD1_XXKE4.tar.
However the instructions on samfirmware state that four files are required:
PIT
CSC
PHONE
PDA
If these are not available on Samfirmware, then where are these found?
Otherwise, I shall just flash the PIT file and the .tar file as PDA/PHONE/CSC and see if it works?

Q2: PIT files. I _want_ to wipe everything out and start again. Think of this as a completely fresh install. Why you cry? Because I am trying to reset _everything_ before I return it back to Samsung as a faulty unit. Resetting (or reinstalling) should confirm or deny whether this is a hardware problem or not. Hence the desire to format all the discs and let it do its (presumably) mkfs.ext4 on the whole lot. Of course, it it does an mkfs on all the current disc partitions using the .tar then I don't mind not repartitioning the discs, but just incase. ;P

Put a multi one in PDA.
OK. Flashed it. Thank-you for your help. I think that it now has a recent radio in it than before.

Although, I had an FC whilst trying to set-up the APN on stock...
On a side note:
Its nice to see that Samsung still have not mended their APN settings software since the i9000. One still cannot enter APNs of certain configurations. In this case its Virgin Mobile in the UK. ( I am using a roaming SIM [VirginUK] in Holland to check that the 3G problem is limited to Tele2,NL). Funnily I am not alone: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1696824
Even after flashing stock, the 3G works intermittently in the same was as before.
I shall try and see what happens with KE2. Perhaps this phone needs to use the stock KE2 and its associated radio/csc to work correctly. ( I don't really know, but stock worked exceptionally well when I got the phone. It went a wrong after I flashed a custom ROM with KE7 and KE8).

I used Virgin UK on SGS2 no problem on KDD KDH modem and KD1O2U CSC .
Sometimes the UK carphone warehouse csc CPW covers Virgin better than the standard CSC i found on SGS1 .

Since last night I have tried full PDA/CSC/PHONE for KE2 KE7 and now KF1 (with MultiCSC). I think that this is not a phone problem but a change on the either Tele2 NL or T-Mobile networks. (Tele2 being a MVNO).
I never got the Virgin sim working: Unable to set the APN.
I shall start a new thread about this later in order to diagnose the problem.
The stock roms from samfirmware are zipped in a RAR file.
Inside this RAR file there are files labelled .tar.md5
Are we supposed to relabel these .tar.md5 files to .tar?

1) Put the I9100XWF1_OLBKE5_DXKF1.rar file into ODIN PDA and flash? But this is a rar file!

Rename bml4 to amms and tar it with tar -c command.

Someone pm'd me with a .rar download called GT-S5830_VNZ_S5830XWKS9_S5830VNZKP5_S5830XWKS3.rar
Within the file there is a .tar.md5 file, that I'm not sure what to do with.

It's a one package file .
.tar.md5 is just a normal tar file , except that there's something going on with the headers (as what 7-zip claims)

- pit file with 220 on the end is for 16gb version
- pit file with 322 is for 32bg version
- pit file with 329 is for 64gb version
HOLD ON! This information's are wrong for me, and that's why i ran into this problem.
so i download a rom, and i choose the 322 file for my device and start with the flash process. result from that was, that odin hangs on step, SET PARTITION, and that was it. before, i already deleted the other pit files, while i was thinking i didn't need it. so the first was, i investigate some times to find the pit files on the net again and i start to flash with all files, one after the other..

I've had my S3 since may 25th MAY and done tons of flashing of ROMS. Never have i ticked the pit as it was clearly mentioned in all the flashing tutorials. There is no need to do it and dont need to encourage others to do something which can hard brick their phones.

its only as a information, maybe somebody runs into the same problem..
It's true that's it's not advised to play with pit files, but I think it would be better if you explained to people why.
Pit files are to be used only when you need to restore partition layout on the phone. That means after you mess up partitions and not before. Bu some guys just ignore warnings like this.

The why is generally that they use the wrong PIT files .
One of the stupid reasons why is going to forum xxxx downloading firmware from them then coming here to ask why has it broke my phone .
PIT mistakes for SG range are in the thousands not just the odd few .

im new to xda. but having been trying to root my galaxy s2 I9100 through xda tutorials.
my problem started when i flashed a pit file with odin.and now i think its hard bricked. doesn't respond to anything, doesn't show on odin either. ive taken the battery out and have kept it like it for more than 6 hours, with no luck at all. but once i put in the battery to check it becomes hot. even bought a USB Jig and tried, nothing happened. please help as in my country we dont get warranty or we dont samsung service centers. I've tried so many ways to get my phone to life but have failed.. please help:crying:

Nothing you can do. If you flash a wrong pit file then your phone is broken. Hard bricked.
The only possibility for you is finding someone with a JTAG box. Try one of those phone repair shops. AFAIK, that's your only hope.
Flashing a wrong pit file is pretty much the worst possible thing you can do to your phone. How the hell did you manage to flash the wrong pit file? Didn't you double, triple, quadruple check that it was the correct file before flashing?
Please don't tell me that you knew that the file was meant for another phone? I've actually seen people do that... :facepalm:

It is possible because people usually think in terms of branding. Not aware different models may exist in different regions. Example the note gen1 has Korean and Chinese and US versions, each has a different model number.

HELP i think flashed the wrong .tar root file for my Galaxy J7 Pro

XDA doesn't trust me enough to let me make my own post and as I'm writing this I'm supposed to be studying for the 3 exams I will be having.
So,
I rooted my phone susing ODIN and the same root file a few months ago on Android 7.1 and it worked. I used it with TWRP recovery and everthing was fine.
Then the Android Oreo update was released for my phone, finally, and I hooked my phone up to my laptop and downloaded the firmware using Samsung's new Software called SmartThings.
Now I had stock ROM, but my device was recognized as rooted and modified, so couldn't use a few apps like Samsung Health and Pay. Then, without thinking, I put my phone in Download Mode and flashed the SAME .tar root file with ODIN, and now my phone won't boot to the pulsating Samsung logo and is stuck in the bootloader
wanted to say that Odin said PASS when .tar file was downloaded in the AP slot
In download mode,
Download Mode says:
Current Binary: Custom
System status: Official
FAP LOCK: OFF
OEM LOCK: OFF
Secure Download: Enabled
WARRANTY VOID: 1 (0x0303)
I have access to STOCK recovery and download mode, and I've already tried factory resetting phone and wiping cache. I don't want to take more rash steps without someone knowledgeable guiding me. and I cant find any other forum to post on because I'm not a high enough member.

And i have go to setting , open development setting. Choose lock OEM. After that my phone restart and recover to 128gb

Hi guys attaching the PIT file for Galaxy A5 2016 Indian model(A510FD). I extracted it from my device which is currently running on 6.0.1. I haven't yet flashed my device using this so not sure if it will be a good idea to use it to flash your device. I am sharing this since I did not find the PIT file for my device any where after a lot of searching. I followed this tutorial to extract the PIT file from my device. If you want you can try this out at your own risk. If you still go ahead and use this please do post the results here.
I will update this thread once I flash my device using this PIT file.

It should be available in any 4-file firmware's CSC package. This file is named wrong, so please don't try to use it for anything.
Here's the correct pit-file taken from 4-file A510FD firmware. Turns out it's the same as for A510F.

Where and how did you get a 4 file firmware for A510FD? I have tried searching for it but didnt find anything. May be I was doing something wrong. And more over how did you get PIT file from CSC in the 4 file firmware. Can you help me understand?
Any help will be appreciated.
Also you said the naming is wrong and hence dont use it. Why does the file name matter so much? In the tutorial I have linked in OP they dont seem to stress on the naming. Any thoughts?

Firmware is downloaded with samfirm. 4-file always got the pit in CSC package, and it also resets device compared to the 1 file firmware which doesn't include pit.
Open the csc tar.md5 as archive, and you will find cache.img, hidden.img, and the pit-file.
Pit should be same for all firmwares except for some carrier specific firmwares that includes files in hidden partition. They also got their own pit with a different name.
To be honest I don't think a pit with wrong name even can be used. Odin would deny to flash it cause it wouldn't match the pit on device.
