Stuck at XDA post - Windows 11

I investigated the ADB program. At How to Install ADB on Windows, macOS, and Linux, I am stuck at step 7 of the instructions for windows. I do not receive any kind of pop up in my phone.

This step, correct?
7. On your phone’s screen, you should see a prompt to allow or deny USB Debugging access. Naturally, you will want to grant USB Debugging access when prompted (and tap the always allow check box if you never want to see that prompt again).

You should check the J2 forum, to see if this is a common problem.

Root Acer Iconia One 7 (B1-740) (Steps)

Ok this tutorial will help you root Acer Iconia One 7 (B1 - 740) (based on my experience :good and any other Acer Iconia tablets I think but before doing this, please kindly make sure that any damage on your device is not my fault. Rooting your device is too risky so, if you come up with the final decision to root it, please kindly follow the steps below:
1.) Make sure you have intalled the adb drivers for you device in your PC /Laptop
2.) Download the tools (in zip) here (http://speedy.sh/CXgXg/Tools-Used-For-Root.7z) and extract on your desired Drive in your PC:
3.) Install the application inside the folder ROOT APP (KINGO)
4.) Open the ADB folder then
5.) Double click ADB.EXE
6.) Double click Start.cmd
7.) Write down "adb devices" in the opened CMD and make sure that your device is on the list of attached devices
8.) Run the Kingo Android ROOT app
9.) Then your device should be recognized by the Kingo Android ROOT app
10.) Click root button

Try this first, on your device, select install drivers and software options, this can be found on usb debugging, mtp, then the third option is what I've said earlier, select that and you should be able to see the drivers of your phone in the My Computer then the name of your device, inside that folder would be the drivers for your device including the right adb drivers for your device? Do you follow?
oh, are you saying that tab itself has its drivers? i'll check this when i'm back home. thanks.

Android™
Intel Celeron J1850 Quad-core 2 GHz
21.5" Full HD (1920 x 1080) 16:9
Intel HD Graphics with Shared Memory
2 GB, DDR3 SDRAM
500 GB HDD
thanks
b.g.
I saw this go on sale on eBay. I'd like to know as well.
Info base
Got one works great, heavy. No info yet. Like the 500gb system memory. no usb debugging option, only via ethernet, have not yet accessed it. No root, super su , nor busybox will install. haven't looked into bootloader or recovery yet.
b.g.
things I think I know
Had to use ethernet cable, setting address to 192.168.42.10 as the asus will put a hard address of 192.168.42.1 255.255.255.0. Able to adb by "adb connect 192.168.42.1" pinged it first to make sure network setting ok. Standard ethernet cable from asus directly to pc. Prob need binaries from intel system, either from a linux based machine or tablet/phone intel based. was able to adb reboot into either recovery (e3) or bootloader (droidboot), could not get fastboot to give commands to the asus, always "waiting for device", it would still ping however. Droid explorer crashes when attempting access, suspect it tries via usb.
Need someone smarter than me to jump in.
b.g.
thanks for the small info, would like to know about full root as well.
tablet
if I could find a screen protection and case for it, I could put those ipads to shame, when I go out.
b.g.
hehe, you surely would get a workout as a benefit!
more little things
Still no progress, except in bootloader, only open port is 1234, that being said. still cannot connect with fastboot; however, when I "adb connect" to this tcpip;port in the bootloader and adb devices comes back as "192.168.42.1:1234 offline".
I'm thinking I'm at the end or there maybe another bootloader type program on sdcard to access, as droidboot appears to looking for an update on drive "e".

interesting, i ask because here: http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/DQ.STPAA.001 (press full datasheet and search for 8gb) it seems to indicate there is one slot that you can install up to 8gb of ram. "SDRAM"

i opened up the back to see what was inside. the 500gb hard-drive is definately easily replacable with SSD (the problem is seeing if it'll boot). most things were covered and the only thing exposed is some unknown PCB board. it does have some places where you can plug things in it seems like...
https://plus.google.com/photos/1132...s/6093720382613628977?authkey=CK3xwte3qpiv2QE
Bootloader(droidboot)
The bootloader is definitely looking at the ext sd slot for its command when it boots up. It says "no valid installer found" on the "E" drive. If I put a file named "installer.cmd" in the root directory of the sdcard then I get a valid installer found. Tried placing "fastboot reboot" into installer.cmd with and without quotes, but no reboot. Need to find how to script installer.cmd to accept a command.
ps-nice pictures, good to see people interested

this might be a stupid question but is the bootloader phyiscally located in the 500gb hard-drive or else where? i was wondering what happens if we swap out the drive with say, a drive that is loaded with windows. what happens when you power on? i believe all of the components on this has drivers and everything already recognized by windows 8.

Might be a problem booting without proper bootloader in firmware, no bios or efi access, probably wouldn't hurt it. Wondering if pulling hd and accessing in linux or osx would allow you to place correct binaries for root? Thanks for idea.

Still trying to root
Thought I was close, but not close enough.
So far, removed hard drive from unit and was able to see and access files on drive via linux. I was able to install busybox and SU (x86 from Supersu zip, x64 was not a binary) into both bin and xbin, installed supersu into /system/app, fine so far. Upon reboot all works fine. Starting supersu says binaries need to be updated-fails, cannot update. In terminal attempted su command I get "permission denial broadcast asks to run as user" and about 10 other lines. Stuck now, tired of looking. Anybody with ideas are welcome.
ps was able to chmod 777 xbin and system on linux, but system reverted to 755 on reboot, locking me out, i suspect, from supersu updating binaries.
bill g.
I don't have one of these but am seriously considering one. I hope you get this all figured out!
willing to try almost anything
I'm going to try a few more times and things, but practically speaking I'm done. Love the unit though.

not sure if this is helpful, but there is another intel baytrail android device that someone seem to be able to install windows 8.1 on to successfully:

also, quite sure you did this already, but have you tried connecting a USB male to male from PC to the android ? what happens?

[Q] idiot's guide to rooting the 7840?

Hello...these forums seem to be both about older Dell Venue 8 models and also the newish Venue 8 7000 (7840). I do not know if they are supposed to be the same for rooting purposes.
I am not a complete newbie, having rooted several phones and tablets in the past, but I did that by faithfully following setp-by-step instructions I found here. I did find the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/intel-android-devices-root-temp-cwm-t2975096
which seems to be relevant for the 7840, but post#1 assumes much prior knowledge and is beyond my capability to follow and implement.
Any advice or guidance would be appreciated, and pointing me to a set of instructions that doesn't assume much expertise would be fantastic.

@Chuckles960 - I know this isn't the answer you want to hear, but I would not attempt this method if you in any way feel uncomfortable with the process. The Venue 7840 does not have any 'reverse'/unbrick procedures out there (as of yet). Also, Dell does not offer their ROM for reinstall like other manufacturers do. However, there is a link to a full Nandroid backup of the 4.4.4 stock ROM within the Venue General forum.
Have you ever installed recovery, unlocked bootloader(s) or rooted any other Android devices?
-Jay
PS - By 'knowledgeable warm body', I didn't mean it offensively. Just a friend or someone you can meet locally that can help you in person. Trust me, this is hard to translate over a forum. I just want to make sure you don't have any frustrations with your Venue. Congrats on the purchase!
It's easy...
1) Install the Intel ADB Drivers from: https://software.intel.com/en-us/android/articles/intel-usb-driver-for-android-devices
(Use compatibilty mode if you are using Windows 8.1)
2) Device Manager may not properly detect the drivers so you have to specify the Android ADB driver from the install folder above.
3) Extract IntelAndroid-FBRL-01-17-2015.7z into a folder.
4) Copy UPDATE-SuperSU-vX.Xx.zip to the internal storage or SD card
5) Run launcher.bat and and make sure it detects your device in debug mode (Turn on debug from Settings on the device.)
6) Choose the T3 mode and wait for Fastboot to load and select the SuperSU zip and install. Reboot... It should be rooted.
This worked for my 7840 and 3840...
And, in case you were not aware, enable USB Debugging on your 7840. After doing so, upon the first cable connection to the PC, a pop-up will appear asking for permissions to connect. Be sure to approve this.

I'm right there with you - The challenge I'm having seems to be more with the Windows drivers... it always sees the device as MTP or just a portable device regardless of having the Intel and pointing Windows to the Intel install folder. Can't seem to get it to recognize the device correctly.
In my case I to select the ADB Interface driver manually (can't remember exactly) rather than relying on Windows to identify which driver it needed on it's own. IIRC you have to click 'Have disk' and go through the steps there until you get two lists, one of manufacturers and the other of device types. You're looking for an intel ADB interface or similar.

This worked fine on my 7840, but only after some struggling with drivers. I have Win8.1 64bit, and the ADB driver from these instructions (line#1) did not work. Going back to the main thread (linked in the first post on this thread) and paging through to (I think) page 10, I found a link to Win8.1 ADB drivers and those worked.
Other than that, everything went smoothly. Thanks to everyone who responded helpfully!
Now what happens when we get Lollipop? TBD?

Exactly! If SuperSU build supports that version of Lollipop, the tethered CWM should hopefully work ONLY if Dell doesn't have some f***ery in any new boot.img updates

so you too also want adb to work for you right?
I can't say exactly what made it work for me cause I have s duos 2 also n so its drivers are also installed in my lappy.
but you do one thing
1.install Intel android driver from above post v1.9.0
2.enable debugging in tablet and connect and then goto device manager where you have mtp error, right click on mtp, update drivers select from folder will appear below that must be some option select from installed drivers goto that see Intel android driver after that you will be getting multiple option android adb interface, adb composite interface select any one preferably android adb interface and install.after that uncheck debugging and again check it and see if mtp error is gone from device manager.
3.download platform.zip from your given thread link unzip it and in that folder open cmd by holding shift and right click do open cmd here and check if all is OK by typing adb devices,if its OK it will list your device.
I'll give it a try, then i'll inform you. Till then, please stick to the post ! Thank you for the info BTW.

other way is download helium app on PC and tablet and in ptp mode you can get adb working
