Question who is on a custom rom? how do you like it? - Google Pixel 6

who is on a custom rom? how do you like it? do you recommend it?

EvolutionX - link to the ROM is in the 6 Pro forum. Some great modifications while maintaining all stock features. Very good battery.
Proton is very good - minimal apps - great online installation.
I'ld love to see a MIUI port - and waiting for LineageOS to show up.

Evolution X

I'm trying grapheneOS which answers to my needs : no play services
Also waiting LineageOS which was my daily ROM for years

In my understanding, not present by default:
GrapheneOS is also hard at work on filling in gaps from not bundling Google apps and services into the OS. We aren't against users using Google services but it doesn't belong integrated into the OS in an invasive way.
They provide a compatibilty layer and capability to install it as an app

CalyxOS since Jan/Feb with no G stuff. I'm not moving from here it's a happy place for my phone and use case.

Google Certifications?

I am looking to pick up a prob7 however with the recent device blocking I need to be sure of google certification. Google’s official list includes all variants of the Pro 7 family, however i’ve seen zero proof from the actual device. Can anyone confirm whether the device is certified in the play store. Also, which rom variants are certified? Do I need the G rom or is the A rom also certified? I am
Maybe new devices will be approved or you need to wait for a system update.

What do you mean by Google certification? Are you interested if this phone would run Google Play, services and the whole suite of Google apps? It does.
G Rom has Google built in and every Google thing works as expected.
A Rom comes Google free, but you can install Google Store and all other Google things easily (by apk).

You care about your privacy? --> /e/ foundation could be our solution

/e/ is a Google-free LineageOS fork for several devices that is fully open source and keeping your data save while still providing services like app store etc. and it was recently covered in the XDA news and as our device is now officially supported by LOS 15.1 chances are really good to get it maintained officially from /e/ foundation...
all that is needed is that we vote for it in the /e/ foundation community vote for next device support... if we only get about 25+ votes more it will easily become number one :good:
Put my vote in for Nougat and posted in comments a request to add us to Oreo list

MicroG is not a full ROM, it's a replacement for Gapps that allows you to use Google-like services, without any Google apps(like a Maps clone). This e/ is a full ROM, like LineageOS(based on LOS actually), that also bundles their own Gapps replacements(their own Email, Drive, even an Assistant). So think of it like LOS + MicroG, except it's made together by the same developers and so more integrated(LOS preserves support for Gapps, e/ will not work with any Gapps). Plus, e/ is focused on privacy, so all of its Android code has been modified to remove any kind of Google branding or prioritisation(I'm quite sure the Android system actually gives things like Google Play Services extra powers/permissions, e/ won't). LOS though is focused on providing (some useful) customizations, while working with most packages out there(Gapps, MicroG, or neither). So LOS still preserves those Google-first code built into Android that e/ removes
EDIT: Oops clarification I read up a bit more on /e/, they actually bundle microG lol so it actually is a LOS + MicroG setup(for now), but they are looking to add more of their own services(currently just their own Email) so that might change in the future Still it is true that it's more integrated than a simple LOS + microG will ever be because that's their focus, unlike LOS and MicroG

Thank you very much, e/ sounds like a real solution for enhancing privacy on android!
Thanks folks, nice improvement -> from 8th rank to forth rank in two days... Only some more votes and we achieve first rank!
Voted!
I registered and voted! Thank You!
Registered and voted. Thanks.
Voted yeeehaaa
Nice one guys, Axon 7 is ranked first one now :victory:
Please continue to vote if you haven't already and ask for Oreo support in the comments, too :good:
I really wish I could have something like this, and still have Google Play, but maybe have it running in a VM? Running sandboxed? I'd like to still access all the apps I've bought on my Google account without giving Google everything on my phone.
My number is through hangouts, so unless I have an alternative to google voice/hangouts, I can't use this
You did it! Nougat is now officially supported... rests Oreo 15.1 version

Looking for a privacy friendly ROM for Mi A3

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a privacy oriented ROM.
LineageOS isn't official and nobody posts there anymore.
Any ideas?
Crdroid is the rom for you then. It has signature spoofing for microG

Nice.
I tried searching some comparisons betwen LineageOS and this, mainly for differences, especially depending privacy, but I didn't find any.
Any info?
Well, CRDroid for mi a3 is based on lineage, mainly differences besides that, are the amount of features that CRDroid has compared to lineage. And you have a big plus with OTA updates.
For your concern, privacy is very strict between both of them at the same level, as of now, CRDroid has already April patch which lineage doesn't.
Yeah I read it's a fork of LineageOS and has more features.
My concern is not security (which is what patches address) but privacy, it has to do with google telemetry hard coded in the kernel, and other stuff like network scanning, wifi triangulation etc.
if you're really really concerned about privacy and will go overboard my advice is just flash any aosp rom without gapps. Just find alternative apps for youtube (this was my main concern) like newpipe.
I've been researching a whole lot of privacy focused apps and started replacing them one by one.
But ROM should be first.
Does aosp ROMs or CrDroid contains Google services?

Crdroid contains signature spoofing if you want to install microg.
Probably the best rom at the moment when it comes to privacy and going gappsless

What exactly is signature spoofing?
And microG?

If you are so focused on privacy then ditching all Google apps and researching microg would be the first thing you should do. Replacing apps now is useless as Google will still pull your data from every app on your device so long as play services are installed (or any Google app for that matter)

It is. But it comes with gapps. I think there is a build without gapps also though

Ok thanks for the links.
So wait, is microG needed? If I got it right, you only need it if you want to run most of google apps. Right?
If I get CrDroid without Gapps and install very other app replacement like, NewPipe, Singal Messenger, etc. won't it be google free?
Damn I'm confused.

Micro G it's kinda confusing first times you read. To answer your questions, yes, you will be Google free. Microg is mostly for apps that depends on Google services to live. It replaces the Google apps but without sending any info to Google anonymously. They just connect to make a login, that it's why signature spoofing is important, without it, microg wouldn't be able to fake gapps for those apps who required then.
Different thing is that you don't use any app who doesn't require Google services. But banking apps, for example, most of them requires it, so that it's the moment when microg plays the fake game.

Still on my current stock XZ1 firmware, would you guys suggest to upgrade to a ROM?

I mainly use my phone for apps, usual call/txt and 1 game that I'm playing. The feature that I will miss is probably the Magnification.
I saw LineAge OS 17.1 on the other thread, but I'm not sure if I will pull the trigger. That means I have to do alot of backups etc.
Have you guys upgraded yours and what's your experience so far?
Hi
I recently upgraded to Lineage OS - there's an unofficial build by @derf elot which I have been using as my daily driver for 6 months or so. Works really well on all fronts EXCEPT for apps that require any kind of verified device security and Safety Net.
Because you have to unlock the bootloader, your chances of passing SN are slim to none (I could not get it to work on a G8343) so you can kiss apps that require Google Play verification goodbye (Banking apps, Netflix, a few Authenticator apps, etc.)
If you can do without those apps, then I have no issues running LOS.
Hello! Thanks for replying to my question.
Did you notice a significant performance increase? I mainly use it for apps and 1 games anyway.
And does LineAge has Magnification too on Accessibility?

ROM advice request

Hi, I have an old GT-i9300 phone that I was going to lend to someone going on holiday. They wanted a phone that they would not be worried about if it grew legs and walked off, so old and slow was fine.
They wanted to use it for:
google maps,
google translate,
google photos,
gmail,
chrome
And all was going well until i was testing google maps and after a few days i started getting annoying popups informing me that android 4.3 or older are no longer supported. And then said person requested support for a pile of other apps.
So I have no choice but to install a custom rom as android 8 or higher is now required.
I have come here seeking your wisdom and knowledge in finding a custom rom for android 8 or later that is stable enough for daily use, has working wifi, NFC, data roaming and camera.
Please help

ive tried a couple of roms in the past days. they all have some kind of little issues. especially the higher android versions from 8-12 are quite buggy.
what i can recommend is:
1. resurrection remix 5.8.5 android 7: https://sourceforge.net/projects/resurrectionremix/files/i9300/ and https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-7-1-2_r2-i9300-ressurrection-remix-n-5-8-3-official.3270121/ (for reference)
2. lineage os 14.1 android 7 by mibo: https://github.com/Mibo5354/i9300_builds/releases
this one i tried today and it looks to be the best overall one so far:
3. lineage os 16.1 android 9: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-16-0-by-team-infusion-beta-20-08-19.3940142/
this one may also be a good one:
4. lineage os 15.1 anroid 8: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-15-1-for-galaxy-s3-by-team-infusion.3941516/

www.getdroidtips.com
if you want gps navigation take mapfactor navigator with open street maps. google maps, translator and mail you can use via browser, as browser take opera gx, it has adblocker and antiminer built in. play store you dont need just take the apks. i never install gapps. photo / gallery is available in all roms by default.
but if you want gapps you have to chose a specific package for the respective roms, like opengapps for arm.
The Open GApps Project
OpenGApps.org offers information and pre-built packages of The Open GApps Project. The Open GApps Project is an open-source effort to script the automatic generation of up-to-date Google Apps packages. All Android versions and platforms supported.
