Anyone know who to disable the nuisance popup warning about increased battery consumption, when enabling max brightness? As much as I appreciate Samsung treating me like a 5 year old, I would love to disable that.
Adaptive brightness has been off pretty much since I purchased the tablet. It appears regardless.

I have ongoing problems with eyestrain. Back-lit screens seem to be the issue. Have you found the SGS2 better or worse in regard to eyestrain, if this is an issue for you. I would really like the SGS2, but I may go with the Sensation if its screen may be better for me. Is max brightness on the SGS2 bearable? Reducing brightness seems to increase flicker on LED screens.
Does the job very nicely,

Is it possible to keep SGS2 brightness at max and then use this app on top to make it appear darker? Or is Screen Filter just a replacement for the SGS2 brightness control that allows further dimming than minimum, or does it work differently?
Thanks
I havent noticed flicker on the S2's screen on normal usage unless I open up specific test patterns for flickering like this site
http://www.techmind.org/lcd/
It of course is to dimming it over min brightness for easier night reading without any sort of strain, haven't used with Max brightness as even 25% is too bright for me for normal usage and then that app with Auto brightness for night readings/browsing
Regards.

Oh. I thought maybe it worked differently since on the app description it talks about applying a "shade" over the screen.
It might work for me if it did not actually dim the LED, but "filtered" the information to be displayed so that it came out less bright. I don't know how exactly that would work, and I guess if this "software" dimming was available then manufacturers would already be using it.
I've decided to go with the HTC Sensation. I figure that the SGS2 will either be the worst or the best phone in regards to eye strain, and it's not worth the risk. Kind of bummed out since I had my heart set on the SGS2 but hey everyone keeps saying that they're both great phones.
Both phone are great but i dont seem to experience eye strain on sgs2 seems good to me...imho
Hope posting here does not violate any of XDA forums rules.
I have an idea for a while and I need your opinion about it, and therefore if anyone wants to help...
There are too many apps, solutions etc. for power saving. However, most of them create a bigger consumption problem or limit the phone experience. We also know that about 20-40% is consumed by screen brightness, especially when it is above 30%. Auto-brighness is a solution but not the optimum because in many cases it is not the desired one. Not to mention that many devs state that auto-brightness should be avoided because it could be power-consuming as well. Finally, it becomes obvious from the battery menu in settings that the line declines sharply when we have the screen turned on for a LOT OF TIME. Cpu processing does not even seem to consume as much as the screen (when not processing in full).
So, noticing that the screen can become power hungry in relation to how much time it is turned of, then the variable that adjusts the brightness could be the time.
What I mean: Most of our essential actions, like reading a message, make a call, change a song or even search something in internet take about 30 seconds to 2-3 minutes and require a relatively high brightness at any case. Other actions such as internet browsing, gaming, reading etc take more than 4 minutes up to 20 or what ever.
So, I was thinking to apply a minimum and a maximum limit in brightness. For the first actions like reading a message the brightness can start at the higher limit and stay there for as long as this short-time action takes place. For the second group of actions the brightness could start from the higher limit and after 3 or 4 minutes the brightness to start decrease at why not an exponential rate until it reaches it lower limit.
Advantages:
1)You set high and low limits so you are never dissatisfied with what the device gives you
2)Not quick and sudden brightness chances as it happens in auto-brightness.
3)Always high brightness for short-term actions
4)Great energy saving from long-term actions, like gaming
What do you thing? Is it worth give it a try? i would have tried it but I do not know how to make a script for it. Also many ideas for it and mods that I can share if you think it is worth spending some time.
Sounds alright, but the deal breaker for me would be seeing the screen slowly get darker before my eyes..

Exactly, that's the point. For example during the 2 first minutes the brightness to stay as high as the upper limit and then after the two minutes to start GRADUALLY getting darker up to the lower limit. So you can start at 80% which is pretty convenient to check the time outdoors with sun and then if you browse in internet it can start gradually getting darker until it reaches the 65%. If you could see the graph the area is significant amount of energy. If only I could make a script I would try it or at least make t happen for myself....
I recently purchased a Mediapad M5 8.4. In the display settings, there is a toggle to enable or disable smart resolution. What does that do?
It basically lowers the screen resolution, at least for certain apps. Theoretically, display quality is lessened but battery consumption is also lessened. As to whether it is a useful feature, no clue. There is limited feedback here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/help/smart-resolution-t3719715
I don't believe it does anything, frankly. Battery life is not improved, resolution is not decreased. Shrug.
I haven't noticed any changes anywhere. Leaving it enabled anyways.
After 1 week of use and compare of some settings -->
1. Don't use dark mode in OS or app settings.
Reason: it will not save any power on LCD display but you will have to increase the Backpanel light to be able to read everything.
2. Disable 120Hz setting for now.
Reason: I am not sure if it is a bug but my display stays at 120Hz...all the time (except running YouTube with 60Hz). Even if I don't touch the screen at all.
You can check the actual fps in Developer options - power monitor.
Results: 2h game playing, whatsapp, spotify and browser usage...I have 6h SOT and still more then 50% battery left.
I wasn't able to get 6h SOT on my OnePlus 6 at all
Info: I didn't use plane mode over night. Wifi was active all the time.
Bloatware is removed and using AD blocker.
I have that sot with 120hz, I don't think it makes much of a difference . I use 60 only when traveling
Same settings ofc. Wifi all the time. But I use videoconference software
One more: use samsung browser which is known to use less battery
Also use nightmode slider to set brightness correctly (maximum here) otherwise you might end using more brightness on low light because nightmode brightness is too low
+1 on the other things
You can get rid of most of miui bloatware apps.
It will probably help with battery
whats the point of buying a 120hz display if you have to disable it?

Prisoner without USB cable?
Kidding. Everything is fine meanwhile. All kind of features are enabled. Also 120hz. The battery is banana. Positively surprised from this midrange mobile after using flagships for years.

Hey!
I've been wondering if there's any proper settings for vibration strength/length available that I should know of? The phone is lovely and everything but I really seem to not be able to find a way to change vibration ... whenever I get an IG DM the phone is causing earthquakes...
Also: I've been trying to get the display to run at 90Hz, I've tried SetEdit but the display runs only at either 60Hz or 120.. Since the phone has a rather mediocre battery life I thought I might be able to squeeze an extra hour per day out of it with going @90Hz.

They are not LTPO or variable. You either run at 60Hz mode with less rendered FPS, or go to 120Hz for anything needing over 61FPS. If you set it to render 90FPS you'll be saving negligible amount of power unless it's a game, since the screen is already running at 120Hz mode/power, just not rendering at max capacity.

on many other devices people a squeezing out quite some more battery life by having their displays run at 90Hz instead of 120. I really hoped to be able to do the same since the battery life is the only slight disappointment on the 5IV. thanks for the reply tho
dude i run 120Hz and get though 2 days without charging easaly
