Question Increase brightness with root? - Sony Xperia 1 III

Hello!
Is it possible to increase screen brightness somehow with root?
Have a great day!

Do you want a higher max brightness or more saturated colors?

For a higher saturation i recommend this app: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/dev-app-sa2ration-enhanced-for-improved-screen-colors.4088191/
For higher max brightness the only option was Gravity Box but they removed the feature a while ago...

Nope xD different technology. Also pretty much every phone with high thermal and oled display cut down brightness when temperature Is up and this is also why lot of OLED equipped phones doesn't allow high brightness of display, becpuse the eventual reduction will be a mess.
Like dropping fps in a game from 120 to 40 or from 60 to 40. You have still the same lower fps but the drop from higher value will be more noticeable.

Yeah it's a shame really.
I would sacrifice size of my phone for better thermal. It should be possible to add proper cooling in 2022.
I think some Asus phones have it but I don't know if it makes any difference haha

The 888 Is a mess. Using It with charger connected during game help me with the battery charger exclusion features.
But also my work phone (iPhone 13 pro) cut the brightness in half After 10-15 minutes of gaming.
I know It's really not good looking but the add on fan Razer or other brand do really help. But it's a thing you use only when gaming and not during normal use.

Display Overbright?

Hi guys :]
I was wondering is there any overbright option for optimusone's display?
I'm using ICS port and the display is like 10% dimmer than when i was with Gingerbread. It's in full brightness in the options. Are there any display tweaks?
Why? I can see perfectly in the sun at 50% brightness...
.........
I like my display and i'm using it in full brghtness level. I don't see the point to have such a nice display (yes,i really like it) and use it with lower than 90% brightness. That's why i was wondering can i overbright the display.

I can't see the point of getting it so up... it takes battery and destroys the eye...
.........
Well...i still want it brighter..are there any brightness-increase tools, scripts or something like that?
take that in mind that there is one point when having a brighter display makes worst what you see.

True, color banding is worse, dust in display... etc...
There is no such thing. But 100% brightness literally burns my eyes and I can't imagine what kind of freak will increase the brightness to 200% for no reason. ICS uses darker shades of colors than Gingerbread, the appropriate display driver is missing and the color banding isn't fully fixed.
And by the way, brightness kills much more battery than overvolting the CPU, because the GPU uses way more energy (althrough it is better for calculations than the CPU).

Minimum brightness

You don't want to give your significant other yet another reason to yell at you while you're reading XDA in bed. Rate this thread to express what you think of the Honor 8 Pro's display minimum dimness. A higher rating indicates that the display can get extremely dim, ideal for reading in very dark environments.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
This one... I think the honor 8 Pro can do better. At minimum brightness settings in a dark room, I think it's still bright. <-- Example of usage: Watching videos in bedroom with lights turned off. I know of phones that can go even lower in terms of brightness.
Agree, the minimum brightness could be a bit lower. It is good/ok atm.
For me, it's ok.
Edit - It should have been better

Another too bright minimum. Needs screen protector.
At nights, i use less brightness, I didn't feel pain to see the screen.

i've got eye comfort or whatever it's called and lowest brightness settings... still, it feels a bit bright in a very dark room.

I'd suggest the app called Darker to reduce brightness at very low levels.

adaptive brightness is not good
Honor 8 Pro adaptive brightness is not working properly in phone. sometimes it dims to lowest value and does not increase at all in bright light condition.
manageable. most of the time I can use with minimum brightness under dark condition or night. no problem faced till date.
no problem in night or dark room
dim enough for night usage
Comfortable with eyes.

Clarity/resolution

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Yes it great I got it
Love my Note 9
HDR Content with the combination of 1440P on youtube looks crystal clear. It is Definitely Beautiful.
Easily the best screen on any phone or tablet. Haven't seen anything even on paper even close.
The clarity looks awesome but FHD+ looks a bit down and when you go up to WQHD+ the battery consumption is crazy.

I Wonder has anyone actually tested this out? One would figure the higher one would burn more battery but a whole 25% increase? Sheesh lol
Amazing! Even better than my s7!
i felt it has less pixel . played 1080P video also . it doesnt feel it has 500+ pixel phone , i think we have to play more that 1080p video to get maximum output

HI...
I didn't found some big differences with battery life using FHD+ and WQHD+...
Running few days on each one the difference between them was in range from 1hr02min till 1hr45min with battery usage... I mean for example time between charging on FHD+ was 18hr35min and on WQHD+ was 17hr20min with the same time frame...
I feel like the display quality is smooth, too smooth perhaps.
Things do not seem as crispy like on other phones like the 2 year old Galaxy s7
Is it just me or does it seem that the Note 8 has the much better display than the Note 9? As the Note 9's display seems to be brighter than the Note 8 while the overall visual quality is good. It is just the brightness even when the brightness is adjusted the same as the Note 8's display is much brighter than the Note 8.

Best Performance Display Settings

I was just wondering what display settings does everyone use and how to get the best performance out of the display. If anyone can tell me all the things to turn on and off for getting there, it would be great.
Thanks

I use the best settings possible, what's the point In having a good phone with the best display if you ain't gonna use it
Exactly. When you say best performance, what are you looking for? Higher synthetic benchmark scores to brag to your friends who also don't understand benchmarks, or the best looking display to actually USE the phone?
Do what makes sense for you. I keep mine on HD+ (720 pixels in the short direction) because my eyesight isn't great and I can't tell the difference. Samsung pushes the higher resolution because it looks good on paper (specsmanship), however I am doubtful that most people (even with good eyesight) can tell the difference between FHD (1080) and WQHD (1440) pm this size phone.
Other people don't matter, check for yourself. I would look at straight diagonal lines and text. If it looks jagged, then go to higher resolution. If not then try lower resolution.
There is a small battery gain from using lower resolution. You can see what Samsung thinks the battery gain is by going to the battery power saving screen and note the savings projected in the "apply" button at the bottom. Change the screen resolution and the projected savings in the apply button will change immediately. The change in projected savings between two modes presumably represents the difference in power consumption that Samsung estimates. For me it is rough ballpark 10 minute life saving from 1440 to 1080 and another 10 minute saving from 1080 to 720 (when checked with battery near full)

I agree with you. I believe that's what my original question was. What are the settings which will give me the best display performance?

I was referring to display performance, which includes having the best visually appealing display settings. I do not care about any benchmark scores. I believe most people have stopped caring about that a while back.

Thanks. I do keep my resolution at WQHD at all times. I was wondering about all the other settings such as Settings -> Device Maintenance -> Performance Mode -> High Performance (I've heard this is needed to get the best display) and other things such as what screen mode looks the best and most saturated (Adaptive, AMOLED cinema, AMOLED photo, etc.) or if there are any other settings.
Guys what settings you keep in adaptive display?
The difference between HD and wqhd is easily noticeable, I have mine on mac settings and the screen is stunning

90Hz possible?

I think that kernel developers should look at this:
*
*
The screen actually works but still a little bit glitchy
wow with in fixes on how it transfers data to screen this will be amazing :good:
This is far away from possible on maybe devices. As stated by some kernel developpers, only a minor portion of poco f1 are able to bear 70 Hz.
It's not Possible, beryllium panels doesn't handle more than 65-70 Hz.

No the display cant handle it. The guy who made that video has recompiled the kernel with 90hz in the device tree and because it cant handle it flickers and glitches
buy a oneplus 7 pro and problem solved.
You need to be happy to get any sort of overclock on such a low quality screen at all.
It helps that it's IPS but otherwise, the screen is basically not quick enough to accomodate that sort of bandwidth.
There also is a lot of variety between what poco devices can actually achieve, some screens hate 60+, others take 70 no problem even though they are NVT or tianma which proves that the quality control on these phones was very very very lax, or JUST enough to have 60Hz safely.
There's a chance you might have 75, but 90 is not possible, unless you have the luckiest of the luckiest display but I highly doubt it
It's not worth the decrease of the panel's lifespan.
