Tl;Dr what are some good methods of copying files to and from the computer, on Windows and Mac
HI. I haven't rooted my Pixel 4 but I heard you could get the unlock menu to ungrey by adding an unactivated Google FI sim or other sim.
So I'm saying I could consider Titanium Backup.
But I'm trying to figure out how to backup pictures with folder structure. Mostly.
Maybe apps and settings, other files.
My main problem is Android File Transfer I'm using on my Mac stops completely when a single file fails and barely shows any info, just the last file in an error message. And then have to reCopy the whole folder overwrite or manually some files.
Is there a good wireless file transfer option?
Or as I'm saying maybe another computer software, or to mount storage or use an SD card but the Pixel 4 doesn't have. Maybe use ADB but will that quit on fail too but more verbosely?
Android is awesome; I tend to love it for its filesystem and USB mounting.
Isn't there just a way to natively mount it? Or next time get a phone with SD (and better battery). And root.

Hi
I had some really strange issues with my SD card files and I was wondering if anyone could help.
Let's start with the start .
I'm running a GB ROM (OneDroid GB06) with Franco's kernel from 02 oct. Using a 16Gb class 6 SD card from A-Data. Partitions made with CWR version 3.1 (I think).
Anyway the problem is like this. I am using my phone as a voice recorder with AndRecorder Free from the Market. Usually record 10-15 minutes (up to 15MB) interviews and sometimes I record like 10 of them without downloading them to the PC. The problem I had was that after I recorded a few of them, when I connect the phone to PC with data cable, I can't see the recorded files in Explorer.
At first I had an issue when connecting the phone in USB storage mode it told me that I had some errors that had to be fixed. I could not see the files I needed in explorer and after dissconnecting from PC the files were gone from OI File Manager as well. I was however able to find them in the LOST.DIR.
I took the card out, put it in a card reader, backed up my files and did a full format and put all my files back. No more "need to fix" messages when connecting to PC, however I still cannot see the files that I record in Windows Explorer while connected in USB storage mode. In Oi File Manager I can see them, play them and even send to Dropbox via WiFi. Or if I take the card out and put it in a reader I am able to see them in Explorer as well.
Anyone has any idea about this? Kernel or ROM issue?
I used the same program (AndRecorder) before on 2.2 and I'm using it on another O1 running official 2.2.2 and never had a problem like this.

Few times the same problem happens to me I am using a sandisk 4gb SDHC card and i clicked some photos from the camera and those photos were visible in the gallery but when i connected to usb storage on computer, photos were not visible... I'm also using FRANCO.KERNEL for gingerbread 2oct but with stock ROM..
First - install Root Toolbox or Dual SD mount widget and try double-mounting the card when connected. If it fails try copying the parent folder to PC or try to list via typing (Should be on the sdcard directory you store the files) dir /a:h or dir /a:s in cmd (Should be your last hope, though).
Otherwise, try setting up a FTP Server and make sure the card is using a FAT32 file system.
Ianis, thanks for the solution, but I just want a way to make it work as it should, not to try and go back in DOS mode just to copy some freaking files.
Did you try:

Try fix permissions in CWM. If that is not helping, use Root Explorer an check file or folder permissions. Also try to swich between R/O and R/W modes.
Try to buy another phone and sd card!

Next time keep your mouth shut. At least this way the other people won't be aware of the disaster that lies within.
Verizon HTC Rezound, rooted, using stock ROM with some bloatware uninstalled. Android 4.0.3 (4.03.605.2 710RD, received OTA from Verizon ages ago... I really haven't messed much with this phone).
Windows 7 Pro (both my laptop and my desktop... I've tried this two places now).
Whenever I plug it into one of my computers, I can only open the drive that has TL-Bootstrap.exe and the drv and img folders. The SD card and the internal storage (faked SD card, I guess it is) come up as Removable Disks, but they're greyed out and I can't open them in Windows Explorer. I don't get a popup for connection type whenever I connect the phone to a computer, but I have gone in the settings and set it to ask every time and also to default to disk drive.
I've cleaned my system of drivers, installed HTC_BMP_USB_Driver_x64_1.0.5375.msi and HTCDriver_4.2.0.001.exe and the drivers appear to have installed correctly. I don't think this is a computer problem... I'm thinking it's a Rezound problem. Phone works fine otherwise, and I can see the SD card using Astro and/or Root Explorer.
I've tried it with USB Debugging on and USB Debugging off. Fastboot is off.
I've uninstalled almost every program (I'm going to wipe it and give it to a friend, but want to fix this issue first).
Still installed:
Titanium Backup
TrustGo
Twicca
Verizon Messages
SMS Backup & Restore
SuperSU
SD Maid + Pro Unlocker
Android Lost
Greenify
Better Battery Stats
Barcode Scanner
BatteryGuru
Apex Launcher
BusyBox
AdFree
Can anyone help me figure out WTF is going on? I just want to copy stuff to and from the SD card to my computer, and she's going to want to do the same to restore her programs.

Guess this phone is kind of a dead model, eh?
Download the latest HTCSync and install as administrator.
Try a live Linux CD... I am guessing this is more a PC config than anything else.
If all else fails, use ES Explorer or something similar and copy every thing to external SD and do a factory default with the card removed and try again

So I guess flashing with CM 10.2 does not alter the built-in folder structure of the NT. I show two categories of "internal storage": about 11.6 GB of "available" space (some of which seems to be taken up by apps and cache) and a second category of a miserly 1 GB. [oh yeah, turns out the "8 GB NT" I got from ebay was actually a 16 GB model. Go figure]
Question: can I rename the "B&N downloads" folder and delete subfolders without messing anything up? If so, can I store files in there (videos, music, epubs, etc.). I'm guessing that the "My Files" folder is actually on the 1 GB partition. Is this correct? Can I likewise customize those folders?
And USB.... As far as I can tell, only MTP works with my Win 8.1 system--and not well. I cannot see any files, just "internal memory" (the 1 GB part). Dragging and dropping gives a "can't copy because the device has stopped" or similar, but the file does seem to transfer. You just can't see it on the computer. Using the "Send to" shell command gives a similar result. If I change the USB setting to "mass storage" and turn on USB debugging, I get the little system tray icon for a connected USB device on my PC, but the Nook is not listed there and nothing shows up in the explorer file directory.
So....is this as good as it gets for transferring via USB? I can always pop out the SD card (who thought up that compartment behind the half-ring ), put it in my PC, copy the files and then put the card back in the Nook and use File Manager to move things around. Ugh.
Is there a better way? Maybe the WiFi Transfer app (I use that on my Nook ST).
When that happens to me a reboot of the tablet usually fixes it. Alternately CM 11 / 4.4.2 ROMs usually eliminate that issue entirely.
Also, if you search the nook tablet forums, there is a way to repartition the device so you have 1Gb internal and the 11.6Gb for installing apps, files, etc. I did that to my nook tablet couple years ago and it's worked swimmingly.

I do a backup in NanDroid, to the external SD card. And plug the phone to mac/pc using usb cable
Browsing the SD card on computer clearly shows that about 1 GB is used now (it was empty before backup)
But the backup itself is not visible, on both OSX and Windows 7
Only when browsing in the phone itself I see the backup file/folder
When I open file browser in Android, it looks like the backup folder has CHMOD permissions set to only allow access for Owner and Group (not others), but I can't change it there (it's just for viewing properties I guess)
Tried installing Root Browser and change permissions for the backup folder (to give read access to everybody). Result: "not possible on some systems" o.0
Is CHMOD permissions the reason, or is it because the computer cache is not refreshed for the file browsing? (but the used SD card space IS updated on computer, so I doubt that's it)
How to fix or get around this?
Phone is a rooted Sony Xperia Go with Android 4.4.4. Backup is CWM
nokia 6 with android 9
i have a problem after restarting the device where i assume the SD card has not yet mounted, and this causes the custom sound files (which are stored on the SD card) to be "not found" and replaced with default nokia sounds or no sound at all (it just points to a file that it thinks doesn't exist)
i figure if i can transfer these custom sounds over to the internal memory, i might be able to avoid this problem. however, i've run into a problem with that too. when i connect the device to the computer (corded or bluetooth) i can see the internal storage directory (and the subfolders ringtones/alarms/notifications) but when i place the sound files in these directories, they do not appear within the android menu after hitting "+" to add a custom sound/ringtone. none of the files will load, instead i just see a blank menu with no files in it. (but the files do continue to appear when exploring the directory from the computer)
so how does this work? lets say i wanted to put custom sounds on my android 9 without an sd card. how would i make that happen for this version of android?
thanks
