Third Party Apps - Amazfit

Hey there,
so I am thinking of picking an GTS3 for myself. Maybe GTS2 .... what do you suggest ?
As for the thread... I am on Diabetes... so I may have to run some Watchface Software or some Diabetes Software too (Dexcom/Xdrip) so I can watch my Glucose Levels on the Watchface...
1) GTS2 or GTS3 ? Any major differences ?
2) any option for installing some other stuff besides the "normal" apps from their store ?

non-Market apps?

I went through my Heros settings and found that in "menu>settings>applications" theres a check-box named "unknown sources" which while checked allows install of non-Market applications.
Why is there such a setting? Since Android OS is open-sourced, isn't the whole point that everybody should be able to upload apps to the Marketplace without Google having to accept them first? If it is like that, why wouldn't all apps be on the market place?
The only reason i see for this is so that you would be able to install apps that Google wont allow, but if they don't allow the app, why would they have a setting so you can install it?
Please tell my why there is such a setting.
Thank you /nofowuw
my only guess is that that setting is equivalent to a Release of Liability form. Any damage caused by apps installed from external sources, not on the Market where it can be rated and commented upon (maybe filtered too?) cannot thus be blamed on Google?

The fact that Android is open source has absolutely *nothing* to do with the Market. There are many reasons why a developer might not want to put their apps on the Market - a core consideration might be that they want to sell their apps, but paid apps are not available in their region, so perhaps they want to use a different distribution method.
Similarly, in some regions, Android phones do not ship with the Market app at all, presumably because Google charge a licence to ship their closed source apps.
Regards,
Dve
google does not check the apps in the market. every app comes to the market, but there is the self-controlling mechanism: if several users complain about an app (and rate it bad) it will be taken out of the market. also you wouldn't install an app that has 1 star and several warnings in the comments. this way you can be pretty (not 100%) sure that the app from the market won't harm your phone. last but not least through the market it can be tracked down to the dev who created the app.
now if you download an app or someone sends it to you all that is gone. no user ratings, no comments, no dev. this is why you have to check that box when you want to install apps from other sources...
ohh, ok... umm.
So how do you install these applications? Just put the application-file on the SD and the phone does the rest? Is there any community that host a library of apps to download?
Since i live in a non-full market region and cant buy apps, i guess this can be usefull for me

[Q] greenify Amzon apps?

Hi,
I noticed since 2-3 weeks that the Amzon apps were not working.
1st it happens with Amazon Music and later alos with the Amazon Shopping app.
I realized that I was greenifying Amazon Kindle and after degreenifying it, the other apps were working again.
This behaviour came with one of the last Greenify updates during the last 2-3 weeks because I was greenifiying Amazon Kindle much longer ago.
Is there a setting which I could test to be able to greenify again the Amazon apps?
I do not need that those Amazon apps are working all the time backstage.
My device is a Note 4 with Kitkat.
Best regards,
dingolino

Many thanks for your help!
This was helping!
So the next feature for Greenify would be to have "Deep Hibernation" with exceptions...
Another feature for Greenfiy could be a "libary" feature to add notes of know side effects to apps to make users aware of potential issues.

Given the vast number of phone models, different OS and apps, and set up differences, it is not possible for the Dev to document the ill effects of various settings of Greenify.
Only the users can document their experiences so that others can learn and avoid the pitfalls. That is what all of us including you are doing.
You are right, for the Dev alone it would be a nightmare!
Such a library function is probably a independent project for its own because of its complexity (I was just thinking a little bit about it) and because other apps could also benefit from it. It is more like a database application and to be honest quite boring for a single person or group to take care of.
Something like a Wikipedia for side effects of app settings that the crowd user group could maintain and with a documented interface that a app could query.
Ok - sorry for being off topic
Thanks again for your help!
Your hint solved my problem!
Best regards
dingolino

I've found that deep hibernation turns off certain receivers that apparently Amazon apps use all together. Mostly syncing and ID related receivers. For some reason opening the app does not allow the receivers to become enabled again. I also found that once deeply hibernated, some of those receivers can't even be enabled by other apps with this function. I think this is a bug that can be remedied, but I could be wrong. If those receivers being disabled permanently is the only thing that will allow deep hibernation to work then I guess this is the case.

Stratos Chinese or English?

Great work on the Pace/Stratos ROMs.
Apologize if my questions are already answered. I searched the forums and not able to find answers to my questions.
I'm planning to get the Stratos and have some questions. I wanted to see my activities on both AmazFit app and MifFit app. I read that to have that feature I should be on the Chinese version and not on the International version. If I use the Chinese version, does it show up all in Chinese language or is there is an option to select English language?
Also, would like to confirm that Stratos can pair to a external HR sensor and possibly to a Stryd foot pod?
If I buy the English International version, can I change the firmware to Chinese? Is there a way to add a custom activity? I would like to track P90X and Insanity workouts.
I have iPhone X and please let me know that both the versions work wonderfully well with the X.
Appreciate reply.
Thanks.
Only Bluetooth HR chest straps are supported. No footpod. Chinese firmware is Chinese only. No cardio, weight lifting or yoga workouts are supported.
As workouts app try Nike Training Club.
Thanks for the reply.
So, if I buy the Chinese version of Stratos and then installl the English ROM, will I be able to pair with MiFit app?
I didn’t get what you meant by “Nike Training Club app”. Will this app work on the Stratos?
Please advise.
NTC app is on the phone. MiFit app does not work with Stratos.

Hi Sami,
If you buy the chinese version you can change the firmware to the english version and it'll be able to pair with "Amazfit watch" english app (I've already did that), I'm not sure about miFit, I think that app it's only for the other device.
I use the Amazfit spanish app and it can be synchronized with Strava, but there isn't more apps.

Hi,
I'm interested on what you said. - "The custom one based on Chinese firmware will pair with MiFit." So, if I understand correctly, I can buy the Chinese version of Stratos and then patch it with a custom ROM (which may possibly give me English language ?) and then pair with MiFit app? Also, to let you know that I have the iPhone X.
Btw, since there is no option to add a custom workout profile (cardio, weight training etc for now), it is possible to install Endomondo or Sports Tracker or Sportsractive apk on the Pace 2 (Stratos) and run it to track indoor workouts like weight lifting, cardio etc.? If it is possible, then would like to know if I can also port the daily tracking metrics to those apps? This is the only feature that I'm missing and it is stopping me to buy this wonderful watch.
To summarize, I would like to get all the metrics on the MiFit app (since I read that it has more feature set than the Amazfit app) along with the ability to run Endomondo or other third party fitness app (apk) and somehow get that data ported to Google fit. I think the data in the MiFit app can be ported to Google Fit?
Please help.
Thanks.

If you buy the Chinese or International model (both will work), flash the Stratosified ROM (after unlocking the bootloader) and then use the Chinese Amazfit app (which will take some getting on an iPhone unfortunately), it will work with MiFit, I believe. I use the Pacefied ROM on my Pace, with the Chinese Amazfit app and it works with MiFit, which can indeed sync with Google Fit.
As far as I know, there's no way to use Endomondo though, and Strava requires the International ROM, so it's a choice between MiFit & Google Fit or Strava
Thank you for your comments.
So, you’re sure that endomondo or any other fitness app cannot be run from Stratos? Can somebody quickly try to download from apkmirror and let us know? I remember seeing a thread on side loading apk files.
Please confirm.
Thanks.
Due to privacy concerns I don't like Strava either. But it connects to many other services. Endomondo will not work since the watch has no google play and fit services.
If I go with Strava premium, will it allow to sync non GPS activities from Stratos?
Is there any remote possibility of tracking cardio/weight lifting exercises with the watch? I’m looking into tracking P90X/Cardio on a daily basis in the same way, Garmin allows to add a new workout profile (by choosing data fields) from within the watch. The other possibility is make Stratos talk to a web portal where we can add custom activities and sync it to the watch in the same way Sunnto Movescount web app allows.
Btw, any other fitness app similar to Endiomondo that can track all activities (including a custom one) and sync with the app? With Apple Watch, for example, I can use third party watch apps (Under Armour Record) and track on the device and online on the web.
Just my 2 cents.
Please advise.
Thank you.

Not sure is this helps with iOS since you cannot download/install old apps (unless your device is jailbroken, what is very rare nowadays):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/amazfit/android-sync-amazfit-pace-v1-3-5-stock-t3719958
I was able to sync with MiFit on Android using the international versions of Amazfit and MiFit apps, using my Pace. Long story short, it seems that the sync is mostly done using the cloud, so you only need to bind/authorise your watch. So I used Amazfit in Chinese to bind my Pace to my Mi account, then uninstalled the app, installed both Amazfit and MiFi in EN, logged in using my Google account to Amazfit first, then MiFit, and when MiFit opened Amazfit it was possible to find my watch. It's a bit complicated to do on iOS, you must have to change the phone's language/region to download the CN version, but you can try. If you still need help, I suggest that you start a new thread with your exact configuration and questions, it's not nice to place similar questions all over the board. Good luck.
Hello guys, i have another question about mi home app. Only chinese version have the feature to control xiaomi home devices? Maybe to this works, the mi home apk should be installed at watch, right? With English version, I can install this too?

Some people have tried, but it didn't work with EN version, wouldn't even install. You'd better try a CN or CN based ROM.

App Request : Habitica checklist

Hello everyone.
Amazfit has focused pretty much exclusively on sports and fitness,
I believe for people work in offices, students who have tons of different goals other than basically running,
a checklist app is very essential , and to my understanding, achievable .
Is it possible to port Habitica sync (a gamification of daily tasks) bars to amazfit pace (A1612 ,ver. 2.9.5.0) ?
so that we can swipe to clear tasks, dailies, habits goals from watch interface.
If not possible , is there a workaround method to interact with Habitica thru watch?
uptill now, I have been trying to connect things up with IFTTT, clapier , and some third party codes.
you need a MIPS android 5.1.1 cient of theirs for that, or to write a client that will work with their API directly.

When will apps adapt to Android 12 Material you

Hey,
so i wanted to ask if someone knows mor about when 3rd party apps adapt their icons to material you?
Not even those popular apps like Instagram or Whatsapp etc have adapted to it.
Is it even possible? I never developed android apps so i don't know if its possible, but i'm sure if google can do it other devs can too right?
