Knots as units - trex 2 - Amazfit

Very tempted by the trex 2. However to be useful it's sailing activity absolutely must report speed in knots. Can't find this information anywhere, equally can't see that a sailing activity could be described as such if reporting in km/land based miles.
Can anyone confirm for me?

Visible Body Medical App on Android

Hi everyone Noob here,
Just wondering if anyone has tried the now famous Visible body app on Android that was just released in the Amazon market place a few weeks ago.
I'm thinking of getting it, but I've been so disappointed with medical/anatomy applications on android platforms that I'm skeptical. I've tried others: Blausen 3d, anartica, etc.....non have reached there potential. Visible body is ranked the best app for ipad etc....
My device: samsung galaxy tablet 10.1 rooted
By the way if you're a medical profession/student with an android tablet a must have is touchscreentune app with a Adonit Jot Pro Stylus. It truley makes your tablet useful in the hospital

It looks just like Google Body, which is free. Have you tried it out?
Visible Body, Zygote Body, Biodigital Human
Looks like zygote body (formerly google body) but there are alot of differences.. I went ahead and got Visible body from the amazon marketplace for my galaxy tablet 10.1. At first I was hesitant because I assumed it would probably be optimized more for the Kindle Fire than a larger tablet, but the app still works great. I really don't get why they don't include the app in google play... perhaps they will soon.. The app runs smoothly throughout. The app is simply classified according to organ system and location with the use of thumbnails to search. One can also simply click on a specific body part and choose othere areas to make transparant or hide all together. The layout is the best I've seen of all the human body apps i've tried thus far. Although there was some lag when bringing up some body sections, the lag tendency seemed to increase only in body sections that included more than 2 organ systems in a given thumbnail.. For example if I choose a coronal slice of the abdomen that includes elements of the digestive tract (stomach, intestine, pancreas), skeletal vertebrae, nervous system and parts of the blood vasculature, the app seems to have more trouble loading the various systems together and slows down when you try to zoom, rotate or select certain body parts. However this is only a small quibble as the app seems to work faster the longer I'm analyzing particular section (perhaps this is only a loading issue).
As far as human anatomy/physiology apps in general go, visible body is the most well rounded out of the 3 I consider legitimate....the other two being zygote body (google) and biodigital human (both which are free and webbased). The biggest advantage of visible body is speed. Since it is a fully downloaded app, all the information is in the system so no need for internet connection/browser issues. The rendering and layering effects are best this way and most areas of the body are included. Zygote body is very slow to load even in a webgl/html5 supported browser like google chrome. Biodigital human was moderately faster but still lagged in speed in comparison to visible body. I want to include that I was able to find a very early version of google body on some obscure website which included the entire application. It worked great, fast and very accurate. Unfortunately it only included the female anatomy with barely any labels.
One issue I have with all 3 apps are detalied information. Granted, me being a medical student, I'm more detail oriented than some who want to use the app just as a reference.
Google/zygote body is the worst in this aspect. If you visit their website, type in a search for the human eye and you will know what I mean. It will lead you to the general area of the eye and bring up "eye lashes" You would think that with an organ as profound as the eye there would at least be a label for. One benefit of google's system is the search function, but with few body parts labeled and no reference information included, the app seems more like an unfinished digital version of a cadaver in anatomy class that I have to pin myself.
Biodigital human is probably the most complete our of the three in terms of level of detail and references (Using the eye example again ) I was excited to see that when I search the human eye, the app was so detailed as to include the different areas of the eye including the lens, vitreous, iris, and each selection brought up a list of related disease specific to that area, as well as a link to some internet rescourse (mostly wikipedia). It's graphical detail was also the most complete. For example, a search of the human retina showed details of even the central retinal veins and arteries drawn in on the retina within the graphics of the retina itself. This is something that zygote body, and even visible body are no where close to. I was actually looking forward to using this app above all, but sadly it only works only on desktop (the version I tried) or on a tablet with an advanced browser like google chrome beta (haven't tried myself) on Ice Cream Sandwich. The app requires web gl/html5 and advanced graphics to work and no current android browser on honeycomb tablet supports it's advanced graphics (I tried Opera....no luck)
So for now Visible Body it is and I'm not disappointed, Biodigital Human, when it becomes available on android as a regular app is my next must have. sorry for being so long, but nobody seems to go into detail about medical apps on the internet (besides imedical apps....which they focus too much on ipad related applications)

Xperia tablet GPS performance

Hi All,
could anyone share their experience about the GPS performance of the xperia tablet?
I'm considering buying this tablet but I definitely need a quick GPS and I was really discouraged after reading this:
reviews.cnet.com/tablets/sony-xperia-tablet-s/
I own a tablet s and the GPS fix is really slow (my girlfriend has got a samsung galaxy tab 8.9 and under the same conditions she always has a way better and quicker fix than my tablet s).
I really do not understand why the GPS/navigation compartment was not developed better: Sony put a lot of attention into making the tablet splash proof, small and light (all nice features if you want to take the tablet out for a hike) but I have the strong impression that the GPS performance is really lacking: could you please share your thoughts?
What's your experiance indoor/outdoor?
Thanks in advance
Wish you all well

The GPS function of most all tablets (and phones) is not designed to be nor meant to be fast and accurate. The intended function of a tablet's GPS is to approximate its location so apps can provide the user with localized search results and geographically targeted articles and advertisments.
There are many apps that use a tablet's GPS for navigation, but almost every one of those apps fail to perform with any great satisfaction. Apps like Google Maps are fairly accurate in determining a tablet's location, but only if the tablet is relatively motionless for several seconds. If the tablet is not motionless, like being in a moving vehicle, Google Maps will/can not quickly and accurately determine the tablet's location.
If you truly need fast and accurate navigational information, you will need to use a "real" GPS device. I use and recommend Garmin.

Hi there,
Thanks for your reply.
I understand your point even if I do not agree with it (as the GPS is listed under the specs and as I have paid for it, then I would expect it to work ok).
You said the aim of tablet gps is to only give an approximate fix but my sony tablet s has troubles even reaching that steady/motionless fix (meaning that sometimes I wait and wait but I cannot get a solid fix. It works more or less ok only when there are ideal situations such as no buildings/trees around and you are on a flat terrain -i.e. no mountains-).
I would not want to use it for navigation in a car but I find it useful having some help when I'm discovering new cities as a tourist on foot. As I'm walking by slowly, reading wikipedia references, I would like to at least have a quick fix on the map that tells me where I am.
As I said, I have tested the galaxy tab 8.9 gps (and also a galaxy tab 2 10.1) and they beat the sony tablet gps hands down: in a narrow street with tall buildings they obtained the fix almost instantly while the tablet s could not (I remained in the same spot motionless for over a minute). All devices were using only the GPS in order to obtain the fix (so no 3g/4g).
I had the same (bad) experience "against" an iPad: basically I was invited to an open air exhibition where you had to use your tablet (be it Android or Apple) to tour the virtual musuem that was setup in an open air space. The open air location was the park of a villa, so not huge (let's say 4 times a soccer field) and with lots of time spent standing still in the same place in order to have a look at the virtual attractions. I was standing by the curator of the exhibition who had an iPad: he was able to get a GPS fix almost instantly and could start talking about the virtual attractions, while my tablet s never actually got a good fix (basically they asked us to install an app that was feeding us content based on our GPS location so, for instance, if we were in front of a bust (which had fixed GPS coordinates), then we were supposed to see the curator or other members explaining the history of the bust etc through an augmented reality app). In the end I was quite embarassed/annoyed to keep using my tablet so I joined another visitor and we used her tablet. The compass was/is also not accurate (I removed the tablet from the case in order to make sure there was no magnetic interference).
What I would be interested in for this thread are direct feedabcks from xperia tablet s users with real life situations: I'm quite afraid that all the alluminium that was used for the back cover/chassis of the xperia tablet might hamper the GPS funcionality (even more than in the tablet s...). Almost the same thing happened with the Asus transformer.
Thanks again for having taken the time to share your thoughts
wish you well

Hi, so did you ever get the Sony Xperia Tablet S? I have the SGPT123US/S with 4.0.3 rooted I bought last December 2012.
As for the GPS...lets just say it works....but it's not the best. The unit I have in my 2012 Toyota Highlander works a lot better.
Let me know what you did and how it works for you.
Never had issues with gps at all as long i have internet connection, did't really try without internet.
tested outside works fast, inside takes forever.

Hi there,
thanks for sharing your experience.
In the end I went for a Galaxy Note 10.1 and I'm really satisfied. Aside from the screen (Sony screens with true black technology are slightly better in my opinion), I think the note 10.1 is a very good tablet. I'm happy with the change (and the GPS in the note is lightning fast and accurate: it is able to pick up your position even inside buildings, trains or buses...a true life saver when you are stranded in a city you do not know).
wish you well

Good choice. I may have gone for a different tablet if not for sony points I used to get this one. I would still rate this xperia tablet s in the top 3 tablets in its class and that were available last december 2012. I would also agree this sony gps works a bit better with internet, but it still works without and probabaly good enough for what it gets used for, which is not turn by turn directions in my case. But you probably made a wise choice all things considered. This xperia tablet s has some great features but if you weigh in the sony proprietary adapter plug, somewhat odd shaped kluge of a case, and overpriced accessories ....the galaxy was probably a better choice.
Take care.....

[Q] Pulling the trigger.....major reservations.

I've read a lot of the original reviews and a fair amount of the postings here, but have to say I'm just not convinced the Fit is a fully working product.
I was intending to use it during workouts in conjunction with either an S5 or Tab S, my workouts consist mainly of rowing on an erg (Concept 2), some weights for tone rather then strength building and some step/hand cycling for stamina.
From what I've read the step counter just isn't even close to accurate and the heart rate monitor is pretty rubbish (I realise that the unit won't capture the exercise I am doing) I like to keep my heart rate in a zone range while doing each exercise. Also transferring the data collected to the phone/Tab apps seems to be a dogs dinner.
Is this even now a 'finished' product with the later firmware releases or is it still an incomplete idea they wanted to 'live test' in the market?
Thanks in advance.

Wow, 24 hours later almost 100 views and not one reply telling me I'm wrong.
Seems that the Fit is an interesting device from a technical perspective but functionally a failure, how sad.

It seems like the Fit works fine with Samsung phones on stock samsung ROMS, except for on Lollipop. It is currently not supported on Lollipop. There are some semi-working solutions for using it on lollipop, but none are full-featured to my knowledge. I don't own a Samsung phone, but that is what I've gathered from reading on these forums. I am currently using it with a Nexus 5 on an AOSP-based ROM. Most things work, but syncing with samsung's SHealth app does not currently work. I received this device as a gift, so have tried to make it work with what I have. If I were buying something, I would probably go for a device that supports Android Wear, since the app selection on this thing is quite limited.

1 year after launch, our game has 10x more downloads on WP8 than iOS and Android

Hello!
I decided to make a post with details about our game Tap Master Mondrian, the first we released, one year ago, and how it ended up having way more downloads on WP8 than on other platforms.
I'll get into the details of why I chose to make a game for WP8, what the download numbers were for the three platforms and how much money I made on each. I also talk about how I marketed the game and why I think the game ended up being way more successful on the arguably smaller platform.
Hope the information is useful, and if you'd like to know any additional information just let me know.
Full post with graphs and numbers can be found here
Well, it's a really interesting story and a real example of how a bigger market isn't always the best one for small devs., as with a few publicity moves and bit of luck your app. can be noticed way more rapidly on the smaller market.
Plus Windows has a really dedicated audience, also a slow but steady growth ( that includes marketshare + store apps numbers ), and generally good apps tend to get observed by the community and given 5 stars, the better the overall score the app has, the quicker the chances are to be featured on the front page.
Also the Store has the New+Rising section, where a new app/game with relatively good score will get featured also.
We've only released Hyper Rift for 3 weeks but its download has already surpassed the total iOS and Android downloads, where the game has made its debut 3 months ago. I can agree with you.
Also the Store has the New+Rising section, where a new app/game with relatively good score will get featured also.

Yep, Tap Master was in this section for a long time, on brazilian store for the most part, which is where most of the downloads come from.
information
this is a very nice point for all very useful information for us carry on
All things considered, its a truly fascinating story and a genuine sample of how a greater business sector isn't generally the best one for little devs., as with a couple exposure moves and bit of fortunes your application. can be seen way all the more quickly on the littler business sector.
Besides Windows has a truly committed group of onlookers, additionally a moderate yet consistent development ( that incorporates marketshare + store applications numbers ), and by and large great applications have a tendency to get saw by the group and given 5 stars, the better the general score the application has, the snappier the chances are to be highlighted on the front page.
Additionally the Store has the New+Rising segment, where another application/amusement with generally great score will get included too.

Daydreaw View with Google Pixel XL - For local film/series watching only

Hi Gyus,
I have just invested in this rigg to better énjoy my locally series and Movie watching, I am not interested in VR stuff, youtube, Netflix or games(so far), just wanted it for relaxing and watching Movies and series in the evenings liing down.
I am using Google Pixel XL for the smartphone and the Daydreaw View.
The best app I have found so far is VRTV Free, (Watching only localy material)
I must say that I am a Little dispaointed so far with the overal experience, (A "Little"), didnt expect that much of a smart phone solution but it was still a lot of Money spent and i hoped for more.
Perhaps there are settings or solutions that could improve the experience that you guys could help me with, I will list my convcerns in PRIORITY order.
1) The screendoor: Is there ANYTHING to do to improve of this as I see it as a disaster? It is is just so much visable pixles I cant ignore them. Reminds me of my first projector 20+ years ago
2) Picture resolutionsolution seems low, anything to boost this?
3) The fact that I have to have my head in a certain angle to get the best focus, are there any solution for that? (Not a huge problem)
Let me also say that I got the phone and Daydreaw view today so the "noob" factor is still there.
I rather not buy Another phone now when I bought this but ifAnother heat set would help I would consider it.
I Appreciate all answers and help on theres questions as I have spent a fortune on the rigg (With obiously not enough enough research behínd it)
Looking formward for constructive feedback!!
All the best,
