Hello.
I recently got an M8 to use as a media player.
I has twrp already installed and currently have firmware version 4.28.502.2, Android 5.0.2
I read that the most current ATT firmware included Android 6.x. So i've been looking into returning to stock.
1) Do i need to have S-OFF to return to stock?
2) Do i need to relock my bootloader to return to stock?
I downloaded RUU from the HTC site. It detects my phone but can't connect after it reboots the phone.
I've been looking a lot of forums and it seems like i need to get S-OFF to do anything and that means paying $25 to sunshine.
I just want to make sure I'm correct and I'm not missing anything.
Thank you

Why not just install a custom ROM? You have access to more apps on the latest android and smoother performance

Should be a simple two step process:
1) If you're going to relock the device, follow htcdev.com directions and relock. When finished, top of the bootloader will show *RELOCKED*.
2) Use the RUU (ROM Update Utility) which is produced by HTC and leaked onto HTC. The best location to obtain the latest version is: http://www.goo-inside.me/shooter/RUU.
Sad to see an EVO 3D user go! Good luck!
Hi All,
Been an Android guy since the G1, but that was also the last time I had anything HTC. Picked up a One yesterday and I'm so happy to be back.
Did a bunch of reading before getting the phone. I wanted to make sure I didn't do anything irreversible. Before I received the phone, I'd read that you couldn't get S-Off with 1.27.531.11, as they'd patched the HBOOT (even though it's still 1.44.) So once I got the phone and confirmed it was on 1.27.531.11, I performed my first step:
1. Downgraded from 1.27.531.11 to 1.27.531.8.
Next:
2. Unlocked using htcdev
3. Flashed TWRP as recovery
4. Installed Android Revolution HD 4.0 Google Edition
All went smoothly! Because I had no issues with this, I decided it was worth it to push on and get S-Off and SuperCID. I read Vomer's guide many times over, and was about to get rolling with revone, when I found another guide ([GUIDE] PRE-S-OFF - IMPORTANT INFO - Read Before Going To S-OFF Threads!) which contained the following:
You are on or flash a STOCK Sense 5, Android 4.1 ROM! (NOTE: 4.2 Software may be OK however for your best chances use the oldest you possibly can!!
But as a result of #4, I'm now on a GPE 4.3 Rom. This gave me pause.
So, two (and a half!) questions really:
1. Should I flash back to a 4.1 or 4.2 rom prior to trying to get S-Off through revone? If so, what rom should I use? My best guess, if this is necessary is Team Nocturnal's Stock Rooted 1.27.531.8
2. Is there anything else flashing Android Revolution HD 4.0 might have done that would cause problems when trying to use revone to get S-Off? I still have Hboot 1.44, and I don't *think* flashing that rom would have somehow made this the patched version present in 1.27.531.11, but I just want to be sure of what I'm doing. (That question sounds so noobish! But better safe than sorry, I'm thinking.)
Thanks in advance, guys. Really didn't have a great community around my last phone, and I'm psyched to be back amongst a big group of tinkerers.
And from that same guide:
Are not using a GE ROM, 4.3 Rom or on stock 4.3 software
So it definitely seems like I should flash something older first. Just want to confirm what would be best (and make sure there's nothing else I need to do as well prior to using revone.)
All set. S-Off and SuperCID achieved.
For anyone who finds this thread down the road:
As long as you've downgraded to 1.27.531.8, just make sure you're on a 4.2.2 or earlier rom. Multiple reports of revone not working with 4.3 roms. You're on an older rom after doing the downgrade, so if you don't flash anything after that, you're ready to use revone.
Thank you for the info! I had wondered the same thing!

Hello android geniuses, any help would be great, all i want to do is get the stock Tmo 4.3 update and keep that way from here on out, please help me get back to stock TMO Recovery and and get the bootloader relocked, while also unrooting my phone. I just bought Nexus 5 and i decided i want to keep my TMO HTC One stock for the wifi calling. I have been n stock tmo 4.1.2 since the day i bought this phone and the only thing that have done to it is root it and unlocked the bootloader and flashed the CWM Recovery and have not done anything since.
Im currently S-On
HBOOT 1.44
radio: 4A.17.3250.20
and my recovoery is clockworkMod
so i havent done much to this phone at all and i cant flash the new update becuse of my recovery. any help in the right direction would be much appreciated.
is it even possible in my current state my phone is in?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358738
that link will give you all you need to know to be 100% stock again. it's for all variants of the HTC One (save for the Sprint and maybe Verizon versions, i think)
follow the directions to the letter and carefully, and it should be relatively easy! good luck
There are at least 10 threads dealing with the exact same question. Read up man.

Noticed that my phone did not take the OTA 4.3 update. I got to looking around and read some on converting HTC One to a Google Edition. Can someone help me understand the advantages of a GEdition phone as opposed to the ATT one? Too, is it a good ROM (I assume it will be a stock).
I'm really STUCK because I want to update my HTC One but I want to keep ROOT. I'm using Stock now, but I cannot seem to find a reliable ROM. Help help!
Thanks in advance!!

At first I really didn't like my ATT stock Sense ROM primarlily because of All that ATT crap-ware they had preinstalled.
I actually got Android 4.3 GE RUU for HTC one up and running....and...at first glance...it seemed really clean and nice! Didn't have any ATT stuff which was a big plus.
Hoping for a clean, stable, custom developer esque ROM........But I really am not a big superFan of Google for all my services...
(I use AdblockPlus on my MacbookAir, Windows XP Desktop at home, while checking my Yahoo email from my Mozilla Browser)
As of now, I ended up with Android_Revlotion HD-One_31.6 Stock ROM and have not changed for like almost a week from writing this feed.,
GPE is pure Android. If that's what you like, do it. I did it to one of my One's, and it was boring. I converted the other to the Developer Edition, and now I have Sense without all of the ATT goodness that they put on these phones. I really like it this way. Not hard to do either. You can get the Brightstar edition RUU from HTCDev. Then just make sure you either use BS__US001, or 11111111 as your CID, and relock bootloader. Since you are still on Hboot 1.44, I would certainly go S-Off before you do this, it makes it easier.
guys, so is it possible to transform my ATT HTC ONE to a GPE HTC ONE? Updates by google?

Yes, I did this and used it for about a month but I do like the sense features better.
1. Obtain S-OFF
2. Change CID to GOOGL001
3. Flash the Google Stock RUU which can be found on the XDA forums
4. Receive OTA updates.
If you need instructions to any of the steps above, google it.
Hi guys I have an AT&T HTC ONE M8 and it was rooted and running 4.4.4 and TWRP and then something happened to it which caused me to go RUU and restore the device and unroot it and everything. Then I was on 6.0 and rooted it with the HTC ONE M8 rootkit and flashed SuperSU and TWRP on it and currently its still running rooted 6.0 with TWRP, I don't like marshmallow and I want to downgrade to kitkat or lollipop. My bootloader is unlocked and I am S-ON! Please someone explain very thoroughly how I can downgrade as I am not 100% tech-savy as we speak.
Thank You Guys So Much!
You can simply TWRP flash a 5.0 based M8 ROM, or restore a 5.0 backup and it will work. I believe the same is also true for 4.4.4. But not 4.4.3, as it is not compatible with newer firmware (hboot, radio, etc.). And you need s-off to downgrade that firmware.
Be aware, whatever you think you are gaining from downgrading; you are losing by not having years of Android security updates (patches to vulnerabilities, etc.).
Thanks Mate! Can you redirect me to a 5.0 Rom?

Not specifically, no. You can search the ATT Dev section for 5.0 ROM as easily as I can. Or if you don't need or want an ATT based ROM, you can also look in the "international" Dev section: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development
Also, ROMs which have been updated (Android 6, 7) may or may not still have links to 5.0 versions.
Alternately (and probably easier to find) just restore a stock TWRP backup of a 5.0 ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
You don't need (or want) to restore the data partition, so it is essentially the same as flashing a ROM (although getting the files to the right location is a bit trickier). Also, no need to install stock recovery (as getting an OTA update is not what you want). Then root if desired.
