I know this should be pretty basic, but I've found some conflicting information online. I'm running crDroid at the moment and I'd like to make a perfect backup that will restore the entire system, apps, and app data as it was at the time of backup.
TWRP offers me 14 partition options for backup:
Spoiler: Partitions
Data (excl. storage)
Cache
System
System Ext
Vendor
Boot
EFS
Android Secure
Modem
Persist
Recovery
Internal storage
System Image
Vendor Image
If I understand right based on the TWRP FAQ, then backing up "System Image" and "Vendor Image" should be what I need. Have I got that right?
You are right System Image and Vendor Image, but also add Data and for kernel add Boot and Dtbo.
Those partitions need to be recovered to get your old ROM back.
Once you should backup EFS which contains IMEI and also Persist if the recovery supports it.
EFS and Persist should only be recovered when you really need to.
Happy flashing.

Restoring android backup take your phone exactly at the moment the backup was done. Rom, kernel, apps, data, everything.

A Nandroid backup takes images of your partitions.
If you want to restore a previously made Nandroid backup, enter Recovery Mode select Restore. Everything should go back to how it was when you made the backup.
If you choose the ‘Advanced Restore’ option, you can select which component of the backup to restore – like the boot, system, data or cache.
Downloaded apps, apps and OS settings, contacts, messages are backed up in data (/data)
boot has the initrd.gz and zImage.
system has the system files (/system)
cache has the cache (/cache).
SD-ext has the ext partition
Hi all, i just replaced my sd-card so i can make a swap partition and speed up my phone.
any way.. i played with Swapper 2 options (swap and swappiness size).
after reboot my galaxy doesn't boot into the system i did a nandorid backup, moved back to Samsung official release, did a full system format and still i doesn't boot into the system.
when i'm restore to my cm backup it stuck on it writes that the restore succeed but it stuck on ''Samsung Galaxy SIII'' screen.
when the official release installed (from adb) it does a boot loop over and over (factory reset doesn't work).
another thing i noticed is that in the recovery it writes ''E:failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)''
that can i do? i think i did every thing i can
In recovery can you access the efs partition? If not then it probably is corrupt, you'll need to format it and restore your efs backup.
If you don't have an efs backup then you need a service centre.
I wouldn't mess with any partition software on this phone, too risky.
i don't have /efs partition
Ok so i managed to boot into official firmware and i found that i don't have /efs partition.
i figure this out from EFS Professional, EFS pro and the recovery.
im searching for an hours but with no answer.. - can i create /efs partition?

Do you have any older backup files.
When you try to restore your backup file CVM or TWRP recovery will ask which partitions you want to restore.
If you see EFS partition on any of your old backups you can restore it.
If no the way to service is seen.
TWRP for the OPX brings up the partitions below:
System
Data
Cache
Persist
Boot
Recovery
EFS
I wondered which ones I should be backing up for standard nandroid backups? I used to do System, Data +/- Cache on my OnePlus One. I did EFS once and backed it up externally and on the SD card, but never restored it.
Do we need to backup all partitions every time?
More importantly, do we need to restore all partitions if restoring an older nandroid of the same ROM or one from a different ROM?
Many thanks

All recommended.
You can store your backups on SD card and forget to worry about the sizes.

I made a nandroid backup for almost all partitions using TWRP and now I need to restore the data partition. Unfortunately, TWRP (or a corrupt backup) does not offer the option to choose which partition to restore. So is it safe to delete anything but data.ext4.win0*, data.ext4.win0*.sha2 and data.info files from the backup directory and restore it (if I have no /data to loose)?
Would of course be disastrous if it tries to restore the partitions which I deleted from the backup, especially recovery, without the backup file, thereby just deleting it.
Thanks if you can give me some advice
Recently I installed Twrp by nebrassy with pixel experience plus rom.In the recovery at first i try to backup nandroid in a usb drive via otg.I select all available partition for backup.Everything was fine. But at the ending of backup process, when system part was backing up it shows backup error, deleteing files. Then i try to back up in internal storage. In this senario, Twrp shows backup was successfull at n.. secods. But when I boot into system I found no backup file of twrp in my internal storage.I tried it twice,But same result. Now, is there any way to successfully back up nandroid in my device?
