One of those silly QOL questions.
I'm using the stock camera app, I like it, (despite the shutter lag) and I don't really want to go to a gcam port that probably won't work consistently.
With that said, it really annoys me that I can't find a way to get the last taken photo in the stock app to open in google photos, which I exclusively use.
Does anyone know a way around this?

I'm pretty sure this is the same on all the Samsung phones, but if I get a Picture via MMS, I cannot zoom in or out on the picture. The only way I have found to resize the thing is to first save it then go into gallery and then you can zoom in. Anyone have a better way?
And yes, I have used other SMS app's like Go and it works much better, but I happen to like the stock Message app, except for this non feature.
Yes, I find it extremely annoying after switching from SE Neo. I would also like to know if solution exists...
I want to use Cyanogen or Slimbean etc. but I frigging hate the Camera app and I really hate the clock app too. I really don't want to use an official rom for my phone but I really cannot part with those apps.
Is there anyway I can use something like Titanium Backup to save the .apk and just overwrite it over the Cyanogen/Slimbean one instead?
I can't stress how badly I need to do this, it's the deal-breaker of Cyanogen.. I've never tried it before but I don't want to waste a couple of hours flashing and revamping to find that I can't do it.. :/
Has anyone tried? I can't find another thread over it... just on the HTC camera app.

AFAIK you can't. The camera app on Stock rom is a touchwiz based app. Won't be compatible with CM
What if I move touchwiz with me? You mean the launcher right, or is that something different completely :/ is there really no way to even try and get it working as a beta? I mean it's leagues ahead of Cyanogen's Camera app and I take so many pictures with my phone... I really miss those options.
Touchwiz is not just the launcher. Its the name of the software framework running on the phone (android x.x + all the other stuff including the interface, camera, messaging apps etc. Since the camera app is part of that, it's impossible to port it to for example cyanogenmod.
You should just wait for android 4.2 to be ported to the s3. As far as i have seen the camera works great with many options !
Hello everyone. I just got this phone the other day after returning the galaxy s5. I am loving it but I have one issue and maybe I'm just doing something wrong.
Everytime I take a picture in the camera app after tapping the check button, the camera closes and I return to the home screen. Does anyone else have this problem or is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?
Not normal. If the phone is stock (unrooted, etc.) I would try a factory reset (backup any personal data first) and see if the problem persists.
Only time I see a check in camera app is when sending picture via mms and it asks where I want to send [email protected],camera etc... if this is case of attaching picture directly from camera to an mms then this is a normal function, if taking a picture and it just closes then this is not normal reaction
Well it seems that the problem has resolved itself. I was just about to post a screen shot of the check mark so you guys could see it and then it just starting working as normal. Thanks for the responses and I'll post here if it comes up again.
Ok the problem returned... I showed the issue to a buddy who has the same phone and it also turned out that I was missing several options on the camera. I did a factory reset and the problem persisted.
I think I found the issue... I was using Google Now Launcher. Apparently that launcher doesn't play well with the camera. I uninstalled the launcher and voila, all the features (video, zoe, dual camera, etc) are back and the camera no longer closes after taking a pic.
Anyone else want to test this theory and see if happens?
confirmed issue and workaround
Hi there,
I can confirm that the Now launcher uses the native Google camera instead of the Zoe camera. I have also found that from the lock screen with the now launcher installed, unlocking by pulling the camera icon opens the full HTC zoe-enabled camera again. I find this super annoying as I'd like to have Google launcher and have the camera work properly. Anyone know a fix for this other than my workaround?
Ditto for T-Mobile HTC One (M7)
There's a lot I really like about the Google Launcher, but this just drives me nuts. I didn't really understand the workaround suggested here ( though I have no doubt it works). But the suggestion sounded on target. So, I went into my app list and shared it from there. It didn't do the funky stuff any more. I wonder if there's a setting to change that behavior: like someone thought, Hey, take a picture and go back to our regular programming? It's a shame because I really feel that the Google camera takes better picture.
In any case, just to let folks know that this is a real problem. The OP was on target.
To anyone else having this problem that does not use Google Now Launcher, another app that causes this is Omni Swipe. The default camera button in the tools section isn't the right camera (not sure what it's trying to access but still). If you add the correct camera app to the app section, it'll be fine.
Yes, this solved my problem as well. I went back to the default launcher and now the camera is working fine

viewing photo from Samsung stock camera is extremely slow, often took more then 2 sec to actually load the image (only allowed to use galaxy gallery app)
When I download Google camera, viewing image by swiping left display the image instantly and smoothly (using google+ photo app)
I want to keep using the Samsung stock camera because it's so much better then google camera, but viewing photo through camera app is insane painful
any solution?
I got the same problem. They literally take some time to load each picture. Would have though that they would open faster with the new internal flash memory as the read and write speeds were supposed to be quite fast. They said they were the fastest on the market today but obviously this is not the case when load times of each picture is 1-2 seconds.
You've said by your own.
The stock camera is much better than google camera and it has a very good quality and that means it's need more time in processing because it's better.

I don't think that is the true reason for slow load
because once u load the first image, the following 100 image will scroll smoothly
if you saying the first image need more time to load because the picture was just recently taken,
then it should instantly load if I patiently wait for few seconds after photo taken allowing time for image to save, which is not the case, the gallery still require seconds to load the first image despite waiting
this proves that it is the gallery/camera app problem instead of image quality or anything

anyone know how to reduce delay when opening samsung gallery app through camera?
or even better, change the default gallery app load through camera to quickpic ?
I tried almost all famous third party camera app, all of them are pretty bad in terms of speed and function
I don't have this problem. Mine loads quickly even if I completely quit the camera app take a picture then look at it. Believe me I know how bad it was with their previous flagship I had the Note 3 but I commend them for this.
Bump... Anyone found a solution to this? Aggravating when you want to see a picture you've taken, and it takes 10 seconds to load.... The old solution of removing 'other sources' from the Gallery app isn't possible anymore, as Samsung have removed any concept of settings from the Gallery app. Annoying!!
I've noticed sooo many different apps where the camera is incredibly dark unless you're out during a bright day. Snapchat definitely had this issue big time awhile ago and seemed to have fixed it, MSQRD as well, and now Pokemon Go. It's crazy the difference between the stock camera and other apps.
Has anybody else noticed these issues? Am I just a strange anomaly?
Picsart works great with my phone's camera!

i'm using FV-5 camera as alternative i think it's great.
Thanks guys, but I'm not looking for a camera app- I am very happy with the stock. I was just wondering if anybody else experienced this in very commonly-used apps that contain a camera function, such as Snapchat and now Pokemon Go
Same problem for snapchat but I didn't really see it in Pokemon Go but I guess I'll pay more attention next time I see a pokemon. It's not just you with this problem.
