Question Opposite understands me hardly and only badly over loudspeaker - Google Pixel 6

I have now been confirmed several times that when I'm on the phone and have the speaker on, my counterpart always says you would understand me only very poorly. If I turn off the speaker during the conversation, but immediately comes the message, it is much better. Is this also the case with you? I've had this since day one and thought there might be an update, but the problem is still there. I mean once to have read that if you turn off 2G this would fix the problem but 2G is off. I now also use VoLTE thanks to new tariff, but also brought no improvement.

Alltel Touch Pro speakerphone - weak speaker?

Hello! New guy here and in searching the web for some answers, I found this site and it looks like a good place to ask some questions
I'm wondering if anybody else finds the speakerphone to be unacceptable? Forget about using it an a car... especially one with an aftermarket exhaust And, even in a fairly quiet room you still have to have it fairly close to you to be able to hear it even with the volume all the way up. At first I thought it was a defective unit and so did the people at the Alltel store (new phone and they are not familiar with it) so they swapped it out for a new one. Got the SAME results and even the guy at Alltel was very disappointed with the quality of the speakerphone. I ended up calling Alltel and asking one of their people about it and they went and got a Touch Pro, tried it, and was like "Wow, that does suck!". LOL!
So, I'm not seeing very much here about how the speakerphone is basically unusable so am wondering if it possible that I got two bad phones in a row and the Altell tech guys have a bad one too?
While this isn't a dealbreaker for me, I do like to use it every so often and can't believe such an expensive phone has such a poor speakerphone!
If this is "just the way it is" is there anyway you smart guys on here which do the hacking can boost up the volume a little???
Thanks for any info or at least re-inforcement that the speakerphone is really "no good". If you all say it works fine then maybe I did just get two defective ones in a row. Thanks!
for a phone that costs as much as it costs HTC Should have put more effort into R&D of this phone..
I'm setting up a Class-Action website soon if HTC dont recall all there HTC Touch Pro's and fix (Put) High Performance Speakers in for the Speaker phone Speaker and of the Speaker when put to ear.
the way i see it is This phone is not even worth 100.00
I can pick up a 25.00 phone and the speakers are way better
I too have the one from Alltel. The speakerphone is weak; however, I don't use it much. When speakerphone is turned off, it is OK.
What I do use is a Motorola H500 and that is very weak as well. Not sure why.
Yeah, this is very disappointing. I thought I could "live" with a poor speakerphone because like cagarn, I don't use it often. It is more the point of it though... it is an expensive phone and if I WANT to use the speakerphone I WANT it to work!
Now, I'm having another problem... the GPS doesn't work worth a crap. I downloaded Google Maps and it was always stuck looking for satellites. Would always show 0 (zero). Thought maybe there was a problem with Alltel "messing" with something so programs like this wouldn't work and you'd be forced to spend $9.99 a month on Alltel's GPS service so, for troubleshooting purposes, I activated Alltel's service and it said "weak signal". Went out to the middle of a large yard and after trying a few times got the Alltel service to lock on and display my location. I then closed out that program and opened Google Maps and DID get it to work too. Since then though, I've not been able to get it to work even in the middle of a large parking lot and not even being in my car??? I went to the local Alltel to swap out the phone again because it seems like the GPS is defective but there were out of the phone. The lady had a personal use HTC Diamond so we tried Google Maps on her phone in the middle of the parking lot and it wouldn't find any satellites either??? What's going on with this? Going to look through the forums here and see if this too is a problem with this phone. Sigh. If this is just the way the GPS is, what the heck is the point of a GPS receiver that is so weak it can't be used in a car and only sometimes in the middle of a large field??? It is getting to the point were, even though I really like the phone and the killer resolution of the screen, I'm about ready to just go back to my trusty Treo 700wx!
I'm running google maps and had no issues. What signal are getting? EV, 1X, rA...?

I normally have EV but sometimes 1X. But, the problem isn't with the data part... the problem is it won't acquire any satellites.
I did notice something weird though... I ran a GPS Test program and it showed the GPS working then opened Googlemaps and it worked then too??? Since then I've been experimenting and the phone will sometimes get 12 satellites and other times I can't get it to connect to any and this is even standing still outside in good weather! I'm also having an issue with the signal (regular phone signal) varying greatly on the phone from no bars to maybe three bars while the phone is staying the same place. It was doing this at the Alltel store and all the other phones in there had a steady strong signal. They are going to replace the phone because of the GPS and weird signal issues. Hopefully this one will work
Oh, and there is a user on another board named badboy8813 who has developed a cab file which increases the volume of the phone. I have tried a "half" boost fix and now going to try the full boost fix and see if that makes it any better. The half one worked pretty good but I'd rather have it real loud and turn it down if needed
Are you talking about this?

This is the actual thread I got it from.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=41385
I have tried both versions and both do what they say. The full boost version is NICE and LOUD Speakerphone still sucks though. It just isn't a good speakerphone speaker and I'm afraid nothing short of replacing the speaker will "really" fix this problem. The above definitely helps but it is very unfortunate such a nice and expensive phone uses such a cheap and crappy speakerphone speaker. My cheap old and free Motorola T262 speakerphone blows this thing out of the water
Yup i just spent 600+ on this phone with alltel because I'm still in contract, and the main issue i'm having is the crappy speaker phone as well.
oh and yea i had to use the volume boost which is pretty cool to bring the volume up as well but it only affected the regular volume, not the speakerphone, not that i noticed.
WOW, here is the reply i got from HTC
Hello David,
Thank you for your inquiry about the volume of the speakerphone on your Touch Pro.
We understand that it is important you receive all the information to best utilize your device. First I would suggest that you turn up both your System and your Ring volumes. Once you do this and are on a call with someone, it is suggested to speak and listen from the back of your phone. When the device goes into speakerphone mode, it switches its main speaker to the back speaker. This should improve your devices sound quality when using speakerphone.
David, I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

Wow is right. Sad. HTC isn't too "up" on their different version phones from the different providers. I read parts of the HTC Touch Pro pdf on their website before I got mine from Alltel so was familiar with their "standard" phone. When I was having speakerphone problems I called HTC tech support. The guy insisted the speaker was on the BACK of the phone. I relied "yes, it is on the back of the phone in the pics listed on your website but on MY ALLTEL phone there are two slits in the top the sound comes out of. He tried to agrue with me a little until I said "Listen, I have no fancy pattern on the back of my phone and no little grille looking thing. If you take the cover off there is nothing for speaker sound to go through and only clear SOLID plastic for the camera and light and if I cover up the slits on the top with my finger the speakerphone volume basically goes away and gets very muffled... the sound comes out of the top of my phone for sure." He replied back with something like "Well, it is supposed to come out the back." To that I replied, "Thank you for your assistance. Good bye."
Yep, I got about as much help from them as you did. They HAVE to know this speakerphone is basically useless. Why are they trying to play it off like you're an idiot? The worst part is that I asked if there was a "fix" for this and they replied no fixes and none being planned. Lovely. Maybe I'll have to buy an old phone on eBay for about $2 and solder in one of the GOOD speakers in my "state of the art" phone. LOL!
well, would it be the speaker or maybe something with the configuration in the phone? I would think speaker as well but i'm not as familiar with the phone.

I don't know for sure but from what I've been reading it seems like the speaker is jus not that great.
I just downloaded and started playing with a program called Diamond Tweak which allows you to use the equalizer for everything (not just when headphones are plugged in)... plus it does a ton of other stuff. I'm thinking if I can get the EQ tweaked in for standard TALKING then that might fix a lot of the problems. Might want to check it out...

If you come up with an "ideal" setting, please do share!
That's just retarded.

[Q] Calls dropping/Bluetooth disconnecting

I love the Vibrant. Most things work fabulously, however, I'm on my 3rd one (for completely different and unrelated reasons), and this issue just won't go away. It's ironic, all of the whiz-bang functions work flawlessly, but the issues with the basic functioning as a PHONE are getting old. When I'm on the road, more times than not I will be in the middle of a call, and it will plain drop. I NEVER had a call drop with the trusty dusty G1 for almost 2 years. I may have narrowed it down to one of 3 things, but they are not consistent: 1) If I have rebooted and forget to turn off the "auto update of time" function, and it does it's thing, it drops then. If I get another call while I'm on a call, it will do it then. If I'm using Google Voice, it seems to happen even more frequently. The other annoying thing is that every day, at least several times a day, I will try to make or answer a call and the Bluetooth will have plain disconnected randomly. I have Jabra JX10's for both home & the car. Is there anyone else who has had these issues, and have any insight as to what may be causing them? It did both when I had just gotten each, so I can't see that it's the ROM, kernel or lagfix. I've asked this before, and I hate to use the "F" (Froyo) word, but if it comes, will it include a new/stronger radio that maybe the issues will be solved? Oh yeah, one final thing, and this may be solely Google Voice related, but often when a call drops or fails to connect, if I try to make another, I hear an ear piercing ridiculous static sound until I reboot. Someone please tell me that I am not the only one who has ever had these issues and that my phone is possessed by aliens. TIA...

[Q] issues with headphone jack, mobile network connection, and mms

I've had the amaze for two weeks now and for the most part love it aside from a few nagging issues.
1) Headphone jack is sensitive to movement (music will cut in and out sometimes if i am walking with it in my pocket)
2) Can't receive pictures. (I've set up my mms to have a max size of 3500k but still not able to receive anything)
3) My signal will cut out randomly for minutes randomly even in places that i usually have full bars. It doesn't just say no signal but my "mobile network" option says its off and its greyed out so i can't try to turn it back on.
Any one else having these issues or have any suggestions? thanks.

I have issue 3 sometimes. No solution yet.

Update.
1) The headphone issue of the sound cutting in and out only occurs with some headphones, so I'll just need to find a pair that work fit perfectly I guess. But it made still need to be fixed by sending it in.
2) After calling in, Telus tech support were able to work there magic and fixed the MMS problem. They said it sometimes happens when a new phone is just activated.
3) As for the signal, I found out that these new 3g, 4g phones only use the HSPA+ networks and cannot use the 2g (CDMA/ GSM) network to save battery. The 2g option is there to be used when roaming they said. That doesn't solve the random loss of signal but it has occurred for a while now so hopefully it won't happen much more. Hope this helps anyone else that might be having the same issues.
The only issue I have is the case that Tmobile provided, the hole for a typical headset and power/usb was too small.
I ended up getting the ibeats from beatsaudi. Sound awesome and fit fine, the only issue I'm having with those is the buttons for vol up/down/call dont work due to the fact thats its made for iphone. But other than that their awesome.
Maybe i'll try those on for size. Hopefully i'll find some cheaper ones that work though in the meantime because those aren't cheap.
Bose on ear headphones are amazing.

Amazing as in amazingly bad for the price. I'd Recommend AKG or Sennheiser. Failing that even some V-Moda's would be a good deal. Personally I use Custom made triple driver In Ear Monitors, and the Amaze, with the DSP running, is extremely good indeed soundwise. FAR better than the Ipod Touch I sold.

SECOND UPDATE
Turns out my headphone jack was defected, so I exchanged it for a new amaze, and so far so good.
As for the network connectivity, for TELUS users we don't have the option of 2g, so when I had the settings as wcdma/gsm my guess is the phone was trying to connect to the gsm network but when it couldn't connect it left my phone unconnected to any network. So far with the settings as wcdma only I haven't had any issues. I will see if this will stand the test of time.
I am having 2 of the problems you listed.
On the bus this morning, not only was it cutting out, but completely disconnecting and stopping the playback. As i put my hand in my pocket, I hit the play button and offensively heavy drum n bass started blasting. So good external speaker from what I can tell
I find I will have full coverage, and my texts will not go through. I will try out wcdma only and see if that helps.
I haven't tried receiving picture messages yet... :/
I guess I will pop by Wind on my lunch break and see if the headphone jack problem happens on another phone.
Make that all 3 issues :/

definitely take it in sooner than later to see about the headphone jack, because although they don't always advertise most companies have a 30 day grace period where you can just trade it in the store for a new one instead of shipping it off and waiting weeks for htc to look at it.
Some people say that some phones are just going to be defected since they are so new, so hopefully if you swap it the new one will work good like mine did.
Ask the tech person to do some initialization for your phone that should be able to receive mms afterwards.
As for the connectivity mine still loses signals from now and then, I guess i'll just have to live with it for now and avoid those areas as much as possible. Good luck
I tried the headphones that came with the phone and they work fine, so I guess I just have to be careful which headphones I use, and try out any before I buy them.
I went in to ask about the MMS, and learned my "unlimited everything" plan didn't have MMS... odd. I should still receive them when someone sends them, and I don't. They told me to go to another location *sigh*.
Update on the loss of signal problem, it only happens when I'm in my basement. I had someone call me while I had 3 bars, and I got a text saying I was about to have roaming charges. I think this has more to do with my provider than the phone. To combat this, I'm just going to leave my phone upstairs and access it from my laptop when I'm in the basement. I'm having problems rooting my phone, though... but that's for a different thread.

[Q] Top speaker quality in viber

Hi,
I was using my old Galaxy s3 to call & txt fiance using viber in states, now that I have sold it to mazuma mobile I have used viber to call her for the first time on my z2 & I could barely hear her at all on the top speaker & had to put phone on speaker phone just to hear her , normal call quality is pretty good on mobile calls, volume was up full. She could barely hear me as well, I turned off noise cancellation in call settings & she could hear me a bit better but said it was still quiet.
Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?
Cheers.
Have you tried moving the phone around on your ear? Sounds silly, but because of the placement of the speakers, its not as natural as other phones i've used imo (or maybe its how tall the phone is). I found the same issue at first, then i moved the phone around on my ear until the speaker and my ear lined up right and the sound was normal.
Yeah mate, moving the phone around my ear was first thing I tried, I don't have issues with normal calls but speaking to her on viber it's almost like the speaker volume is set really low & I could barely hear her at all, since I call her in the early hours I would rather not have to put the call on speaker phone.

Ah okay. I did a quick google search and it looks like its hit or miss for some devices, so it might be on their end. This thread has a Viber rep responding in it to the same problem, or at least a couple months ago he was(no real solution, other than reporting it).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2307492
Also there's an app suggestion in there that a member says helped, and another one would be master volume (i think thats the name). I don't really use Viber, so i'm not much help other than that.
Cheers again for the reply mate, have checked that thread out & also posted in it hoping they will still be checking it, checked the apps mentioned in play store & most haven't been updated since 2011, I do think the issue is like you say more on Viber's end as the volume was fine on my now sold Galaxy S3.
Might have to check out Line or similar apps & get her to do the same as Viber is almost unusable due to this, connection quality was excellent all through the call so I think Viber just need to update or optimise it for the Z2.
Same problem man, here is a fix that worked for me, note 3 international version:

I've had the call fade in and out a bit. My spouse (has the same phone), noticed people complaining about fade out during calls, too. We noticed that if we held the phone normally (fingers wrapped around the phone, about the middle of the phone), the calls fade out. If you hold the phone around the bottom near the speaker -- or use a headset -- calls are okay.
As a little test, I held the phone normally and the network signal was around -114 dBM.
I put the phone on the table, the network signal was around -104 dBM.
Both our G3s exhibited this issue. We didn't purchase them together, either (one by mail, other from store). Perhaps its a phone issue, perhaps we coincidentally received bad phones.

I think there are more than just a few people with this problem. Mine is giving me the same issue. People tell me they can't hear me at all, or I sound like I am stuck in a well, or that I am ignoring them. I've tried a couple of things but to no avail. I believe it has something to do with noise cancellation. I just turned off voice enhancement and voice privacy and it still seems to give me this problem but I am gonna try it out for longer. I am with Verizon. Let me know if you guys have any ideas.
Yes I have noticed that when the phone is right to me ear im ok but a couple of inches away and people say echo or sounds like Im stuck in a wall. I mean weird? has anyone tried a factory reset
I've been struggling with this issue since I purchased the phone on the 17th. I've also noted significantly worse signal in relation to my G2. I swapped out my phone this past weekend and the problem exists with the replacement.

In vehicle bluetooth works every time. I had one case where my wife could barely hear me through the phone (we both have the g3) but all other calls have been fine thus far. Hopefully this gets addressed in the first update.
Still An Issue...
Any update on a fix for this?
I just spent a month calling VZ about how people have trouble hearing us (we have two G3s with the same problem). One was replaced and people still have trouble hearing us.
The SG3 was never this bad with calls.
I have not tried my G3 with the Prius Bluetooth, but on every call so far over Verizon or Google Voice/Hangouts the Voice quality whenever I enquired has been reported to be fine.
The only issue I have noticed is that sometimes when I hold the phone right-handed my finger underneath it covers the Mic hole.
Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
I have a bad habit of bringing the mic away from my mouth at about a 45 degree angle while keeping the phone to my ear. When I do this, I get reports of the echo / can't hear me. Bringing it back to the proper position seems to correct the issue.
I have an ad hoc solution that seems to work so far:
Use the speakerphone while on the call. Totally obnoxious in social settings, but if you're somewhere private, it works.
Turn off Bluetooth. I did this a couple of time no one complained not being able to hear me.
Speaking to Verizon is pretty much useless. One rep did a fancy dance to say this is a software issue and they can't do anything for me at this point.
Add me to the list of Verizon LG G3 owners with poor call quality. You guys have described exactly what I am experiencing. People tell me I fade out, sound tinny, sound underwater etc. I have tried the phone in a case (OtterBox) no case, different parts of my house, different positions holding it, making sure I'm not covering the mic etc.
Also did a factory reset and ran the phone in "Safe Mode" as well
Same problems. Seems to happen on longer calls BTW and I have no troubles hearing people.
I am getting a solid -104 to -108 LTE signal and solid -89dbm CDMA and -88dbm 1xRTT signal.
Right now I am going to use BT exclusively and see what happens, but this is troubling since I make a lot of calls.
I never had this problem, in the same location my house, with my last phone a Droid Razr Maxx.
It gets pretty much the same signal levels.
Any ideas on this?
Is it a Verizon problem?
I bought this phone in BestBuy so I'm not really sure how to proceed to exchange it as I am past my 30 days?
Do I call Verizon?
Go back to Best Buy?
Call LG?
I've dealt with Verizon before and like the other person said, it's not a pleasant experience .
Help!
P.S Other than the call quality issue, this phone is incredible and I love it.

I have the same problem as many on here and it's frustrating. As great as the features on the phone are, it fails at its most basic task - making calls.
I quoted you to answer part of your question. I, too, got my G3 at Best Buy - 22 days ago to be precise. I finally got fed up with the call quality problem and spoke to Best Buy yesterday (and had the issue pop up mid call with them). Unfortunately, their return policy is 15 days. Beyond that you're forced to use a protection plan claim, if you have one, or work directly with LG for a repair - which would leave you without a phone for a few weeks while LG does its thing. It was also suggested that it could indeed be a software issue and a future update could fix the issue. But that does nothing for us now.

Thanks for the info Rodeojones.
I suspect it is a software bug.
I "think" I can still take out a protection plan with Verizon so I might do that just in case it gets worse.
I'm trying the BT headset exclusively now to see if that helps or changes things. So far nobody is complaining and also when I use the BT in my car, a crappy Jabra Freeway Speaker thing, nobody seems to complain either which leads me to believe that maybe the mic is doing something odd causing the phone to reduce the audio going out or something.
It certainly is disappointing having a top tier phone that has problems making phone calls.
@stang2003
You've described all the troubleshooting steps I've gone through as well. I am disappointed beyond words. I would at least be happy if there was some affirmation from Verizon or LG that this problem exists, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it....

People tell me this but only when I have them on Speaker phone... no complaints when listening normally or via BT headset or vehicle BT connection.

From what I am reading it seems this might be related to Verizon only.
Is anyone having these kinds of problems on a different carrier than Verizon?
I did find a number of threads regarding poor signal strength with the G3. Seems even the EU folks are having these problems.
Maybe both call quality/microphone problems are actually related to a poor radio signal?
Ok, so an entire day using my Blue Ant ancient T1 BT and not a single complaint about fading in and out etc. In fact I was talking to a person on BT and it was fine. I disconnected the BT, did not move the phone which was right in front of me, put it on speaker and within a couple of minutes he was claiming he couldn't hear me, fading in and out etc. I switched to regular ear (no speaker phone) and same thing with fading in and out. I went back to BT and talked for about 10 additional minutes and it was fine.
My preliminary conclusion, and it's really too early to tell, is that it's somehow related to the mic in the phone as BT doesn't seem to have the problem.
Can anyone else confirm this?
Test with BT and see if you get complaints from people on the other end that you are fading etc.
