Question TWRP support for Nord N20 5G - OnePlus Nord N20 5G

I have been looking into rooting my N20 with twrp, but I found no support for this device on the teamwin website. I have unlocked the bootloader and was looking for the entry but it isn't there. Are there any alternatives or other routes I can take? Thanks.

Yeah just flash your boot img with magisk and then just boot to fastboot and flash boot.img and disable vbmeta..

Will try, thanks for the reply.

Devs r working on it now but the Oscar TWRP can be used temporarily if you just have to have TWRP before it's finished but take this into consideration that it won't work perfectly because it's for the CE2 lite which is the euro sister to the N20. I recommend copying your stock boot image to your inactive slot and flashing the Oscar TWRP to the active slot and use TWRP for whatever u need it for then change slots in TWRP to get back to system... This is a temporary workaround.. there's an app you can download to switch slots from Android too but you need the bootctl magisk mod

Is there any way to see progress updates on that or is there a way to use Oscar TWRP as normal recovery (don't feel very good about not having custom recovery available in case something goes wrong).

well u would have to search for the TG group. im not allowed to post links to it here any more. mods delete or censor my posts if i do even though i always ask that anyone getting live help in TG post their problem and solution here if they get help... idk lol.... as soon as its finished it will get posted in a new thread though. everything works except booting to system with twrp in ramdisk so we are trying to get some device specific things swapped out and testing as we go. i dont see it being much longer now that we have some more help.

Ok well maybe it will be longer than I thought. Nobody left whos very interested in working on it. I don't really have the time for it any more. Anyone who is interested can either copy their own boot image to the inactive slot and flash Oscar TWRP to active so magisk and such flashes correctly then switch active and boot off the inactive slot. You can use magisk bootctrl mod along with an app that switches active slot from Android to boot to TWRP without a PC and then change slots in TWRP to get back to android and always keep a good copy of ur boots image on the sdcard and never forget to flash your stock/patched boot image in TWRP to the inactive slot before rebooting if you flash anything that flashes over both slots. .....OR find Spector and others in TG or on GitHub and see if they wanna work with u to get TWRP fixed for our device... Or you can find a fork of Spector's Oscar TWRP that says experiment for N20 and you can use/experiment/continue on our efforts. Shout out to Scrad, JuiceBox, Spector, pjgowtham, the guys in CE2 liteband Nord groups, and many others who have devoted so much time to learning and working with me on this and answering so many questions and giving advice.. Shout out to PizzaG who tried his best to teach me and work on a device he has no experience with and to Eduardo for the initial attempt. Shout out to Ghetti for being Ghetti, if he ever sees this he will know what I mean. If I left anyone out I apologize but you know who you are and I thank you. Someone got me banned on TG probably related to this device and my refusal to help when people start acting like Im obligated to help them and act a monkey . so I'm done pushing anything out for it or spending any more effort on it. Good luck everyone. I may check in from time to time but I've wasted the last 7 months learning more than I ever thought I needed to know about android and OnePlus. Also just to note, the N20 experimental fork of the Oscar TWRP has the GN2200 kernel dumped from a July patched boot image along with dtbo and some other things, you can do a diff to see what got swapped out from Spector's fork if anyone wants to play with it. Everything works except booting to system in the OSCAR TWRP on the N20 and I haven't been able to try to build the TWRP I was experimenting with so I don't even know if those changes fixed it. If anyone wants to be the guinea pig and try it be my guest or if someone wants to build it and post it I will test it one of these days

Oscar sadly even when used on your non acrtive partition has limitations that a device specific TWRP will hopefully address.

It does seem a fun undertaking the TWRP site and various posts give a general overview on adding it to a new device.

I know this isn't the correct forum but I've searched and haven't found anything and since this seems to be the closet device I was wondering if there is any development for this device yet or any rooting methods that may work
I looked as well. There does not seem to be any serious develop on the V530. I'm bootloader unlocked but no root or twrp that I could find.

Thanks. I couldn't even get that far. Don't get me wrong it's a nice device but I'm sure a custom ROM would make it fly. Hopefully soon as more people get the device we'll see some development.
First thing first. Bootloader commands must be there.
If so, you just need TWRP
I'd also be very interested in rooting/custom rom for this device, as I moved to it from my Nexus 7 2013 that was very much showing it's age. It's almost painful being on a stock rom from a 3rd party at this point. I've searched through google and nobody seems to be taking much interest in this device. The same was true for the original xperia z tablet and it's got official lineageos support, so I remain hopeful.

I am having problems even booting into bootloader on this thing. I was able to boot into recovery mode but can't get out of the "no commands".
adb reboot recovery
adb reboot bootloader -> just reboots it.
It might be possible to use dirtyc0w exploit to get root access on this tablet.(nvm it seems our android version is already patched for that. )
I too have been able to get the bootloader unlocked but unable to find a version of TWRP or find any rooting tool that supports this device. Still holding out hope but this doesn't seem to be a super popular device :/
Hey guys! I bricked my tab and i need a stock kdz or system, recovery and boot.imgs! Does anyone have or can pull these file for me thanks in advance!
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I have rooted mine..if I had the stock system.img could you used that? This is what I did to obtain root..
Download the Lg download utility mode tool '''https://github.com/Lekensteyn/lglaf''
and the sources ''https://pycryptodome.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/installation.html'
Then open cmd in the folder and execute: python lglaf.py --debug --rawshell --cr -c '!S sh' <--- there might be an error message or laf_acess_denied but its okay.
re-enter the command: python lglaf.py --debug --rawshell <--- this should open up an interactive shell..enter ls and see if it lists the files on the device then close the interactive shell
run python extract-partitions.py to get the stock boot.bin but change the file extension to .img
push the boot.img to the device, install magisk manager, patch the boot.img, pull img then flash with fastboot
Nice! We finally get root a couple days after a seemingly innocent fall off my bed wrecked my screen :crying:. Deciding on replacing it or getting a MediaPad M5.
tbh I've rooted this device since last month or so but I really didn't have time to make a tutorial
Is anyone able to pull there kdz? My tab is bricked and ive tried LG bridge and all others! Or the the imgs in need to go back to stock! Any help please! Thanks!

Thanks to Vincent_vann I have root. With this I can finally start building a custom TWRP for this tablet. I wish we had a forum for this device. I requested one last year but it still hasn't been made even though it was approved. If I get one built, and there isn't a dedicated forum, I'll post it in this thread.
Just built TWRP. I noticed some folks asking for stock recovery, boot, and system img files. I have recovery and boot img. Not sure where to post these though. Same with twrp. If someone has any reccomendations on how to go about this I'll gladly provide.
I have the Canadian variant (v533) and wouldn't mind giving TWRP a whirl on it. All specs are same so I think it'll work. Don't mind testing if you do get somewhere to post TWRP. Also good job on getting it compiled ?

Thank you! Unfortunately with nougat file based encryption TWRP has issues with decrypting /data after the setup of the tablet. So it's working 50% which is annoying because you'll have to wipe data whenever you want to flash something. Not a big deal for roms, but very inconvenient for other zips. If you still want it let me know and I'll find a place. Else I'll be tackling the decryption issue this weekend.

Looking for custom rom for Ulefone Armor X Oreo 8.1

I am looking for a custom rom, minus the Google stuff, that will work on my Ulefone Armor X Oreo 8.1. I have a working TWRP recovery and have rooted it via Magisk but went back to stock after a few nagging problems.
The phone spec isn't wonderful so need something lighter but still having plenty of functionality.

This specific device and Chipset is fairly new and there's very little on the forum that's specific to your device.
With that stated...
You have a Mediatek MT6739 (64 Bit) device that can be very helpful in that aspect.
Though I had located a few threads that won't be very helpful for you but, the following thread is about the best that your possibly going to find for your device at this point in time.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701283
It does take some time for developments to pop up on the forum for newer Mediatek Chipsets but, where there's a developer (with the same Chipset device), there's always a way depending on the level of difficulty.
I wish you the best of luck with your search!

I'm also looking for that. But if I can get TWRP on it I'd probably try SU.
How did you get to install the TWRP? I found a few posts but was apprehensive about whether I can use SPFT to flash original stock ROM if things go wrong. I suppose that would be the easiest way.
For what I paid for the phone, it's a decent enough device.
Using SD card as internal memory always result in the total capacity being reported wrongly..256GB becomes 512GB with 50% occupied, 200GB becomes 256GB with 64GB occupied. Still waiting for their tech support to reply but unlikely they would.
Cheers!
I have rooted it several times and flashed the stock image several times too without a problem. Haven't used SU though I used Magisk.

I do not have your issue with storage but my wireless charging mat today stopped charging but still lights up. Phone will still charge via cable. Trying to get a replacement mat.
I installed using SP flash tools on windows and Linux just to see the difference.
If you do a Google for Install TWRP ulefone armor x then you will get some information and relevant files.
Unlocking the bootloader via ADB is straightforward on Windows and Linux too. And then relocking it.

Charlie

im also facing the same issue... kindly someone help.. ive explained my issue below:
Can someone confirm? My device is encrypted by default, so whenever i install TWRP it says to decrypt device. I tried the pattern, changed it to password, and pin still my device doesnt decrypt in twrp. I feel its a twrp bug, because when i set the device to ask pattern during boot, the same pattern/pin/password is accepted, but not in twrp.
I want to know 3 things:
1. Are your devices encrypted by default (i dont remember encrypting my device, I dont know how it is encrypted)
2. Are you facing this same issue of entering password when you reboot into recovery?
3. What is the purpose of the boot.img in the twrp zip? am i required to flash it before flashing the recovery, or does it remove encryption?

In the folder containing the TWRP recovery there are 3 files, boot.img, scatter, and recovery. You only flash recovery, you have flashed the boot image, ensure the checkbox is unticked after loading from scatter in SP tools. That is what I think you have done to get that result.
Follow the guide here. I did it a few times before success as I followed a guide from another site.

You ignore the password and change the language to English from Russian. Just don't enter a password at all. The recovery won't stick as Android replaces it when you reboot. After you've completed other steps maybe OEM unlocking then it stays, or so I read somewhere.

All of them are encrypted by default now. The password in TWRP should be ignored and just change the language and select storage etc.

Yes all are encrypted.
Yes I get the same request for password which I ignored and selected language and carried on.
I do not know why boot.img is included it just gets in the way.
After installing TWRP unlocking OEM bootloader and all the rest including rooting it I decided it would be better to wait for a new ROM. All we need is a working TWRP and an unlocked bootloader to flash a new ROM and we have that. It doesn't work very smoothly and I felt it could be better which is why I went back to stock.
When I posted this request I didn't imagine others would try installing Magisk etc, waste of time really as you won't stay with it either. Best wait for a ROM I think.

Mine is the same encryption is enabled. I select external SD storage and I am shown the contents using the same procedure as yourself, I cannot tell you why this is so. I am using the same technique, same phone, same settings, same TWRP, maybe we have different SD card?
That is all I can think of by way of an explanation. It works perfectly for me. I also made a backup which I can select and restore without a problem.

Question TWRP

Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if there has been any update about custom recoveries for pixel 6. I've been checking the TWRP website and what not but there no info on the subject that I can see.
Just curious to know if anyone else has heard anything about custom recoveries yet
I asked about on one Telegram, I think that TWRP is out-of-date for newest Android version (main dev is on hiatus)

TWRP for Android 11 only came out in late 2021. It should come soon for 12. No ETAs obviously but they have a chat here: https://rebrand.ly/teamwin-recovery-zulip-community and make announcements here: https://twrp.me/
Thanks guys, it's good to know that it might still be a while away hopefully not too long. It does have some good features so fingers crossed it's sooner rather than later.

That won't help on a system that has boot issues.
there was a custom recovery ( lineage recovery i think) that came with a custom rom. i was reading about the rom a few weeks back(forget where), but the developer would not release the recovery separately.
so really there is no reason why TWRP or some other custom recovery could not be developed.
but with the lack of roms on XDA and limited custom roms elsewhere, i feel that the pixel 6 will have very very little support.

I have a question that is probably really stupid. Twrp and other custom recoveries allow installing custom roms, staticos and the like are out. How do they do it without a custom recovery?

You push it as a zip file on fastboot. They're is dotos, deep, statixos, grapheneos, protons, crdroid etc for device
So basically bypassing the recovery altogether.
twrp lets you flash your device without needing a pc.
not to mention backup , on device formatting. amoung very many other useful tools

The feature I miss most is adb and having access to the decrypted file system. Decryption was always a problem for twrp; I used to unset my phone unlock method to get around that.

I miss having the ability to do a complegte image of your phone. Comes in handy when you get stuck in a boot loop and have to do a factory reset. Is there any other program that can do a full backup like TWRP?
I really do not see the need for a backup of andoid on the Pixel 6.
Backup your data.
There are several ways now days to restore the Pixel 6 with Android 12 and above.
adb and fastboot are your friends.
Kernel manager apps have a flash tool built into them.

none of the ways you mention are possible with only a pixel6 and nothing else.
i cant tell you how many time when i was away for vacation or on a trip where i have flashed a rom on my S7. even a few times when some new software borked my phone and i could boot to recovery and RECOVER my device.
you can go to the custom kernel posts here and look at how many people have soft bricked their phone in April with a bad kernel. with a TWRP recovery they could have flashed a backup and never left their chair.
how can anyone say that more tools to fix things is in anyway a bad thing.

Why would you attempt to mod your cell while on vacation?

Question Flashing CPH2459_11_A.06 on a GN2200_11_A.06 ?

Hello,
I found a firmware file for the Nord N20 5g. However, it is CPH2459_11_A.06, while my phone says it is GN2200_11_A.06. Would it still be possible to do a local update to pull the boot image, or must the CPH and GN match? I have the T-Mobile version, bootloader unlocked, and network unlocked , along with the July security patch.
Thanks!
Take a full-backup of your firmware and find out.. lol.

It would be awesome just to see if it works, but I don't know if it would harm your phone or not, and I would feel terrible if it did.
i would try flashing to inactive slot then switch over and maintain your functional system

I'm still too new to rooting to do this successfully, I'm afraid
cph2459 is the unlocked version of the N20 5G correct? could you link the firmware please?
It is the unlocked version. I have the TMO version but it is network unlocked. The firmware can be found here: https://mega.nz/file/MXckFawK#IZ1ypD5Ftqw5Oz3oaeHLahqfUeaD6DlTzHCjeR3oseg
Also, this one is GN2200, but it is 11_A.05. Would it downgrade with the current patch? https://mega.nz/file/lX1H3Z5C#hUVmdbWUFI0bt0WQZVfaenTfVwoOqlfn2oexY5uC-Hs
If the OTA contains patches for all the required images then it SHOULD. But don't take my word on that.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Do you simply need a backup? It would probably be best to load a prerooter gsi with DSU sideloader and just use Partitions Backup and Restore app from playstore and backup all your partitions then just add them all to a single archive to make it easier to manage. You can select in options to save as raw (.img) and then just compress them all into a single archive and that would make it even easier to retrieve the needed partition images if you happen to need to restore anything.

I see. Basically I'm just trying to obtain root access. You mentioned prerooted gsi? I will need to read up more on this. Man this would be a lot easier with TWRP lol
waiting to hear from someone about a twrp that has been in the works. we tried one yesterday that didnt work. a different device tree is needed from the one that was used.
using DSU loader you can temporarily load a prerooted gsi and back everything up and move it to your pc and then move the boot.img to your internal storage where you can easily find it with the magisk app. install and load the magisk app and patch the boot.img then move the patched boot image to your pc and flash it in fastboot. that will give you a permanent root unless you prefer to stick with the gsi you sideloaded. but keep in mind any gsi you load with DSU Sideloader will be gone when you reboot the phone and your back to your regular system. you can use the sticky command if you want to keep the gsi installed but be sure to allocate plenty of space for your gsi if you plan on using it long term
if your on the may or july security patch you should be able to just download the patched boot.img from my other thread. i posted the stock images too in case you need to go back to stock or have issues booting. that being said. its best to just make your own backups. the july patch is GN2200_11_A.06

I didn't know you did the July patch as well. I will check it out now
Also if and when you do flash the magisk patched boot images, do this command before and/or after flashing the boot.img:
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
Someone else has tried this and lost radios..... Can maybe get everything working again by reflashing the FULL BACKUP you took before cross flashing.... This would be an experiment though so don't attempt if your not ready to spend some time researching and unbricking your device should it be necessary
I tried it. I'm bootlooped

I was just about to ask if you had two different devices because remember me telling you to be careful and not get your flashes mixed up?

Question [ROM] e/OS

Hello, just bought the One Plus Nord N20 unlocked version with the intent of rooting it and installing a ROM. I haven't turned it on because I don't want it to upload the latest security patch and make itself unrootable, so I have nothing to backup. Ideally I would want to install e/OS, but have not rooted nor unlocked the bootloader of a device since 2012, so I essentially know nothing. Can someone please explain if:
- Is this is possible?
- If it is, is it a bad idea?
- Is the GSI for e/OS absent for this phone, and is this an issue?
- Is using a GSI a placeholder until a true custom ROM is made?
- Should I wait until the process is more mature?
- I am told to wait until I know what I am doing. Where should I learn / practice since there is still little documentation for this specific phone?
Thank you for your time!

Is this still the case? I read another thread that says this may be the reason it no longer works.

If you think you don't need a backup because "you've not turned your phone on yet", you should probably think twice about trying to flash custom software. Especially GSI...
Just trying to save you some heart ache down the road. Cheers

if you decide to use the security patch it came with stock then be sure not to connect tp the internet at all because once its unlocked and rooted and downloads an update dsu sideloader will not work until that update is dealt with and system updates wont work while bootloader unlocked and definitely not going to work if any partitions are modified(not stock such as magisk patched boot image). im not sure about the september update but some did have issues with the august patch although others were successful so it may have just been user error. my suggestion is to just put dsu sideloader and a prerooted gsi on an sdcard or transfer via pc/usb cord to internal storage but don't connect to the internet and use that to gain root long enough to pull your full stock partitions backups. this would be playing it safe. then ifnyou want you can relock your bootloader and update to september/newest and pull another full backup so you have it in the case that ypur successful and if not then your bases are covered to downgrade and downgrading will be as easy as simply reflashing all the stock images you pulled the first time though you shouldnt have to reflash ALL of them but in case you want to / need to then u have them. I cant stress backups enough. I use Partitions Backup & Restore by Wanam from playstore or wherever u want to download it unless u prefer to dd everything but i like the gui its just easier. read my post on how to root any n20 as there are somegood tips there and a great response detailing the procedure and dmtec also posted a much more detailed guide. i still havr a device on May patch and the other on July
